GLADYS DYKES
Mrs. Gladys Dykes passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker and in her later years had worked at several garment factories in her hometown of Clayton, Ala., and in Panama City. She also substituted in the lunch rooms of the Bay District Schools, where she was known as "Granny." Mrs. Dykes is survived by her husband of 68 years, Neal Dykes of Panama City; a son, Cecil Dykes of Panama City; a grandson, Tim Dykes and his wife, Jan; a great-granddaughter, Sara Dykes; one brother, R.J. Benefeld of Hapeville, Ga.; and three sisters, Eunice Chance and her husband, C.W., of Clayton, Ala., and Lois Segars and Myrtle Palmer, both of Eufaula, Ala. She was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Floyd Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Millville Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Russell Stewart, David Stewart, Daniel Vitter, Gregory Vitter, Malcolm Hagan Jr. and Ronald Hagan. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Dec. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m.

CATHRYN E. KENNINGTON
Cathryn E. Kennington, 80, of Panama City, Fla., died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at a local hospital. She had been a lifelong resident of Bay County and was retired from JC Penney. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Mrs. Kennington was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Kennington; and son, Alfred Kennington. She is survived by a daughter, Ann Raffield; three grandchildren, Scott Raffield and his wife, Connie, Susan Watford and her husband, Gene, and Joyce Sutton, all of Panama City; five great-grandchildren, Kayla, Karen and Keith Raffield, Savannah Watford and Genee Carson; three sisters, Marge Newmans and family, Becky Harrison and family, Christine Shiver and her husband, Colin, and family; and a brother, Marshall Emanuel and his wife, Perry Jean, and family. Funeral services will be held today at 10:30 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Johnson and the Rev. Adolph Bedsole officiating. A private family burial will be in the Callaway Cemetery.

BOBBY CORBITT
Mr. Bobby Corbitt, 69, of Lynn Haven, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at his residence following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec, 15, 2001, at the Chapel of James and Lipford Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Collins Mill Cemetery with James and Lipford Funeral Home of Graceville directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday at 10 a.m. until the time of service. Flowers will be accepted or those wishing may make memorials to the First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven Youth Fund, 1005 Ohio Ave., Lynn Haven, Fla. 32444. Mr. Corbitt was born in Graceville, Fla., (Poplar Springs Community) on May 4, 1932. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, retired from Civil Service and a member of the First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Julia McIntosh Corbitt; two sisters, Magaline Stanfill and Velma Corbitt; and four brothers, McRay Corbitt, Royce Corbitt, Jimmy Corbitt and Doug Corbitt. He is survived by his wife, Annette Corbitt of Lynn Haven; son, Bobby Lynn Corbitt of St. Joseph, Mo.; daughter, Ann Santi and husband, John, of Lynn Haven; brother, Billy Corbitt of Niceville; sister, Virginia Pearce and husband, I.R., of Shalimar, Fla.; six grandsons, William Turman and wife, Lynette; Michael and Steven Turman, Lamar, Joshua and Charles Corbitt; and two great-grandchildren, Courtney Turman and Dalton Corbitt.

DOROTHY DELORES JORGENSEN
Delores Jorgensen, 70, lifelong resident of Panama City, died Nov. 25, 2001, at an Asheville, N.C., hospital after a long illness. She was employed for many years at the Coastal Systems Station's Navy Exchange. She is survived by a daughter, Glenda Ann Leidy and husband, David, of North Carolina; three brothers, Malcolm (Mac) Jorgensen of Lynn Haven, Adam (Butch) Welch and F.R. (Tubby) Welch, both of Panama City; two sisters, Margaret Carroll of Jupiter, Fla., and Jean Warriner of Panama City; two grandchildren, Laurel and Samuel; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial graveside services will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery.

THOMAS G. THRO
Retired Master Sgt., U.S.A.F., Thomas G. Thro, 67, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2001, after an extended illness. Born in Mankato, Minn., he moved here in January of 1967 from his duty station in Thailand. He was a radar electronics specialist with the United States Air Force and retired after 261/2 years of service to his country. He was a member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church parish. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and member of the Paul Wesley Airey Chapter 553 of the Air Force Sergeants Association. He was also a member of VFW Post 8205, AmVets Post 2298 and American Legion Post 356. Thomas was preceded in death by his mother, Florabelle Higlee, and father, Alfonse Thro; two brothers, John B. Thro and Eugene Thro. Survivors include his devoted wife of 44 years, LaVonne Thro of Panama City; sons, Thomas J. Thro and wife, Darlene, of Swansea, Mass., Timothy A. Thro of Panama City and Tyler J. Thro and wife, Sharon, of Panama City; daughter, Teresa Pennington and husband, Keith, of Westerville, Ohio; brother, Kenneth Thro and wife, Donna, of Panama City Beach; grandchildren, Christopher Nguyen, Victoria Pennington, Veronica Borgess, Thomas J. Thro, Eileen Thro and Amber Lynn Thro; great-grandchildren, Sean and Ariel Borgess; aunt, Agnes Lisowsky; nephews, Mike and Mark Thro, John R. Thro; nieces, Cheryl Leitzke, Kathy Barry and husband, John, Sandra Bohrer and husband, David, as well as several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Thomas will be conducted Sunday, Dec. 16, at 3 p.m. in Southerland Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. ASA LEE WILLIAMS
Funeral services for the Rev. Asa Lee Williams of Panama City will be conducted today, Dec. 14, 2001, at the First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Phil Edwards and the Rev. Don Shoots officiating and the Rev. Williams' grandsons assisting, the Rev. Charlie Fowler, the Rev. Jeffrey Scurlock and the Rev. Tony Legear. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. GWENDOLYN WYNN HOOKS
Ms. Gwendolyn Wynn Hooks was born on Dec. 19, 1951, in Greenwood, Fla., to the late Mr. Vincent Valdez and Mrs. Louise Strong. She moved to Panama City many years ago. She gave her life to Christ and was a Christian. She departed this earthly life on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, in her home. Her father, Mr. Vincent Valdez and a sister, Shelia Strong, preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Mr. Kenneth Wynn (Keisa), Mr. Gerald Wynn and Nehemiah Hooks III; two daughters, Ms. Keeser Wynn and Ms. Nemisha Hooks; three brothers, Mr. Alphonzo Wynn, Mr. James Strong and Mr. Vincent Valdez Jr.; four sisters, Ms. Ramona Wynn, Mrs. Tonya Ford (Mark), Ms. Bridget Strong and Ms. Kowanda Smith; five grandchildren, Tihisha Wynn, Ashley Wynn, Jacquez Smiley, Dominick Hooks and Kenysia Wynn; a dear friend, Mr. James McKinney; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Gwendolyn Wynn Hooks will be held today, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. at the Fellowship Church of Praise, 2511 E. Third St., with Pastor Donnell Morgan officiating.

JOSEPH S. "SCOTTY" SELL
Mr. Joseph S. "Scotty" Sell, age 87, of Marlin Avenue, Sunnyside, Fla., died peacefully in his home on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001. Scotty or "Sport" had resided in Florida since 1972, when he and his wife Mildred moved to Panama City after retiring with 30 years from the Federal Aviation Administration in Oklahoma City, Okla. Scotty began his career with the Army Air Corps at Will Rogers Field in the spring of 1942. At that time, Will Rogers Field was a training base for pilots and aircrews. He was promoted throughout his career and traveled almost continuously about the country. His wife, Mildred Taylor Sell, his daughter, Frances Jones, and a son, Richard Scott Sell, preceded Scotty in death. He is survived by his daughter, Patty Ranone and her husband, Nick, of Panama City; grandchildren, Robin Newberry and her husband, Gregory, Dale Thompson and his wife, Shelly, Rick Hardin and his wife, Lynn, David Hardin and his wife, Kat, all of Panama City, Debbie Watson and her husband, Mike, Tara Stamps and her husband, Clint, and Troy Hoskins and his wife, Toni, all of Atlanta, James Ranone of Destin, and Richard Ranone and his wife, Wendy, of Colorado; 19 great-grandchildren, Matt and Sarah Watson, Trevor and Tierney Newberry, Scotty Thompson, Summer Hardin, Billy Becker, Elizabeth Granger, Isabella Hardin, Emily Stamps, Madeline Stamps, Lillian Stamps, Stevie Rae, Jordan, Charlie and Julian Hoskins and Andrew, Robbie, and T.J. Ranone; nephew, Baird Trice and his wife, Renee; and a close friend, Margaret Trawick. Scotty and Mildred's move to Panama City inspired many of their relatives and friends to follow them. Many friends and neighbors in Sunnyside will miss Sport, where he was a friend to everyone he'd meet. BETTYE LOUISE STONE
Bettye Louise Stone, 78, of Panama City, went to be home with her husband and her Lord Jesus Christ on Dec. 13, 2001. She was a lifelong resident of Panama City. She was a retired nurse at Bay Medical Center after 23 years of service. She was a member of the Bear Creek Assembly of God and had been a faithful Christian for over 60 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Stone. She is survived by three children, Cherry Stone McCurry and her husband, Coy, Karen C. DiCalogero and her husband, Phil, all of Panama City, John Charles (Bubba) Stone and his wife, Lou Jean, of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Patricia Kelly and her husband, Eddie, of Pace, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Raley and the Rev. Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

EARLY L. WILSON
Early L. Wilson Jr., 78, of 450 Howell Bluff Road, Bruce, Fla., died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. He served in the U.S.. Navy and was retired from the Florida Department of Transportation. He also served as chairman of deacons at Ebro Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Campbell. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Wilson of Bruce; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Yulondia Wilson of Tallahassee; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Jeff Mitchell of Panama City; son-in-law, Jerry Campbell of Chipley; five grandchildren, Lyle Wilson, Kristen Leigh Wilson, Liza Dishon Campbell, Heath Macomber and Zane Macomber; two great-grandsons, Kaiden and Jonas Macomber; two sisters, Katie Rushing of Ponce de Leon and Lulie Rushing of DeFuniak Springs; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Dec. 15, at Clary-Godwin Funeral Home, DeFuniak Springs, Fla., with the Revs. John Clenney and Rob Lightsey officiating. Burial will follow in Red Bay Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Grady Rushing, Ray Zuber, Billy Wilson, Eddie Rushing, Chester Rushing, Kenny Rushing, Bobby Grice and A.G. Rushing. Honorary pallbearers will be Bud McBroome, Pat Schofield, Alto Carroll, Buddy Brown, Donnie Russel and Harold Warren.
