William Michael Gallahan

February 15, 1952 - March 10, 2008

Funeral service for William Michael Gallahan, 56, Orange City, who died March 10, 2008, at Florida Hospital DeLand, will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 14, at Lankford Funeral Home, 220 E. New York Ave., DeLand, with the Rev. Tony Wishon officiating. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Orange City. Calling hours will be Thursday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Lankford Funeral Home.

Mr. Gallahan was a paratrooper with the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne. He was born in Orange City and was a lifelong resident. A brick mason, he loved NASCAR racing and enjoyed fishing and operating model planes. He was a graduate of DeLand High School and a member of the First Baptist Church of Orange City.

Survivors include three brothers, Steve Gallahan, Lake Helen, Forest Gallahan, North Carolina, and Sonny Gallahan, Orange City; and two sisters, Peggy Clapper, Jacksonville, and Kathy Seely, Ormond Beach.

Bernice Wright Clements

June 28, 1914 - March 14, 2008

Funeral Service for Bernice Wright Clements, 93, DeLand, who died March 14, 2008 at her home, will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 19 at Stetson Baptist Church, 1025 W. Minnesota Ave., DeLand, with the Rev. Reggie May officiating. Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 9 a.m until 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Mrs. Clements was born in Horry, SC and moved to this area in 1958 from Conway, SC. She was the owner/operator of Wright Construction Company in DeLand before retiring. Memberships included DeLand Garden Club, DeLand Business and Professional Women, DeLand Womens Club (life member), Lake Beresford Yacht Club, DeLand Country Club, Stetson Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her son, Carl Franklin Wright and her husbands, Carl M. Wright and Curtis L. Clements. Survivors include her daughter, Gayle Steward, Sanford, FL; two brothers, Eason Hendrick, Conway, SC, James Hendrick, Conway, SC; granddaughter, Shanan Stewart; grandsons, Shayne Stewart and Shawn Stewart.

Rebecca Lynn Whalen

August 19, 1972 - March 14, 2008

The Celebration of Life for Rebecca Lynn Whalen, 35, who passed away on Friday, March 14, 2008, will be held Wednesday, March 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 319 W, Wisconsin Ave., DeLand. Father Don Lyon will be officiating.

Becky was born in DeLand and graduated from DeLand High School. She continued her education in Ft. Lauderdale, receiving a degree in child care. She worked as a paraprofessional at Boston Avenue School, fulfilling her desire to help children. Becky loved to travel, taking many trips with her grandmother and her family. She enjoyed beading and "Becky's Bracelets" were sold exclusively in South Beach. Becky loved to go to church on Sunday and belonged to the Stetson Baptist Church.

Becky is survived by her parents, Leslie and Don Whalen; one sister, Kimberly Ann Whalen-Texter; her niece, Summer Texter; aunts, Patricia P, Orfely (George), Penny L. Peck (Kenny), Karen Sauer (Patrick); great-aunt, Lavern Anderson; uncles, Richard Stephenson (Cindy), Michael Whalen (Kathy); and great-uncle, Carl Anderson; cousins, Helen Mule (Delfin), Katie, Christian, David, Melissa, Nicholas, Kelly, Paige, Hunter, Heather and Brandi. She is also survived by her adopted grandparents, June and Curt Holland; and her beloved Shih Tzu, Rebecca's Bella Gabriella (Gabby). She loved her Gabby. Her family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Becky's loving caregivers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice West Volusia Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129 or the Rebecca Lynn Whalen Memorial Scholarship Fund the family has established through Mainstreet Bank, 204 S. Woodland Blvd, DeLand, FL 32720.

Irene B. Cola

November 21, 1934 - March 15, 2008

Memorial service for Irene B. Cola, 73, DeLand, who died March 15, 2008, at her home, will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2008, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 359 W. New York Ave., DeLand, with Father Tom Connery and Father Bill Gohring officiating. Calling hours are from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 19 at Lankford Funeral Home, DeLand.

Mrs. Cola was born in Queens Village, NY and came here 52 years ago from Huntington Station, Long Island, NY. She was vice president of Cola Homes and she also owned Ceramics by Irene for several years. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church for 52 years, where she was a Eucharistic minister, a member of the Ultrea Community and she was active with the Women of the Knights of Columbus. She was also an assistant coach at St. Peter's Catholic School. She coached a women's softball team for 12 years.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Frank Cola, DeLand; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cindi and George Furse, DeLand, Sandra and Ladd Smith, DeLand, and Barbara and Doug Flowers, DeLand; brother, Daniel Davis, Long Island, NY; grandchildren, Frank and Melissa Furse, Kimberly Furse, Stephanie Flowers, Doug Flowers Jr., Victoria Flowers, Deanna Young, Angela and James Oyler, Natalia and Joseph Martinez, Anna Smith, Letitia and Jacob Verminski, Michelle Eads, Jennifer Smith, Rebecca Smith, Lena Smith, Ben Smith, and Eric Smith; great-grandchildren, Francis Furse, Sarah Furse, Clarissa Harris, Jimbo Oyler, La'Sandra Oyler, and Ladd Oyler; and uncle, Edward Kuhn, DeLand.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Counties, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.

Bill Ramboldt

July 7, 1941 - March 15, 2008

Bill Ramboldt died March 15, 2008, at home with his wife at his side. He had been very ill for a short time, fighting cancer and had other health problems. He was born in Beloit, Wisconsin, on July 7, 1941, to Sterling and Beatrice (Skutley) Ramboldt. He attended Beloit High School and joined the Air Force shortly after graduation. He served four years in the Armed Forces. He lived for several years in Rockford and Belvidere, IL while working for Rockwell International Company. There he raised two sons.

Bill married his wife, Judith Segerlind, in 1981. They moved to Deltona, FL in 1982. There they built their house and Bill began working for Seminole County in the Parts Department. Taking an early retirement because of health problems, Bill began his hobby of making wooden lawn ornaments.

He belonged to the Morning Star #10 Masonic Lodge in Beloit, where he was active with the DeMoley Association, and the American Legion Post #120, Holly Hill, besides holding the position of treasurer of the Nu Voice Club of Daytona Beach and co-custodian of the WebWhisper On Line Club Instrument Loan Closet. He also was a former member of the Florida Laryngectomee Association Board of Directors. His wife, Judy, is a laryngectomee, and both of them became active in the laryngectomee organizations. He also was active for years in area amateur groups serving as stage manager and set designer/builder. In the last three years, he and Judy operated a business, HearMeRoarBeads, where they developed and sold necklaces for women laryngectomees. Bill designed most of the necklaces.

His survived are his wife, Judith Segerlind-Ramboldt; sons, Jon (Tracy) Hom, League City, Texas , and Donald (Laurie) Ramboldt, Belvidere, Ill.; stepson, Marc (Sherry) Stevens, Celina, Texas ; brother, Peter (Beverly) Ramboldt, Beloit, Wisc.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Hom, Emily and Jack Ramboldt, Hayden and Owen Stevens and Leighanne Kiger, Baltimore, Md.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Doreen and Don Magee; two nieces and one nephew. Also mourning his death are many, many friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 20, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Lankford Funeral Home, 220 E. NewYork Ave., DeLand, with the funeral service on Friday, March 21, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. The family respectfully requests no flowers please.

Alfred Robert Faron

February 1, 1923 - March 16, 2008

Memorial service for Alfred Robert Faron, 85, Orange City, who died March 16, 2008, at Shands at the University of Florida, Gainesville, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at Lankford Funeral Home, 220 E. New York Ave., DeLand, with the Rev. Michael Fronk officiating.

Mr. Faron was born in Coram, Long Island, NY and was a resident of DeBary and Orange City for over 50 years, coming from Long Island, NY. He was the owner of Alfred Faron Plumbing in Orange City, and a 52 year member of the Lion Clubs, holding positions in both local and state with the Florida Lions. He currently was the secretary/treasurer of the DeBary Lions Club. He enjoyed being a Lion, helping people, and gardening.

He was an Army veteral of World War II, having served as a private first class. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 8093 in DeBary.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Marlene L. Faron, Orange City; one son, Alfred R. Faron II, DeLand; two daughters, Lisa Phillips, Orange City, and Sandra Harris, DeLand; one sister, Doris Bayles, Long Island, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Southeastern Guide Dogs, Inc., 4210 77th Street E, Palmetto, FL 34221.

Jessie Taylor

April 6, 1919 - March 16, 2008

Funeral service for Jessie Taylor, 88, Dowling Park, who died March 16, 2008, at Shands At Live Oak, Live Oak, FL, will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 21, at the Westminister Presbyterian Church, 1313 W. New York Ave., DeLand, with the Rev. Joseph Gasper officiating. Entombment will be at Oakdale Cemetery, DeLand. Calling hours are 2:30 p.m. until service time at Lankford Funeral Home, DeLand.

Mrs. Taylor was born in Danbury, CT and was a former resident of DeLand. She was a Paul Harris Fellow and a member of the Westminister Presbyterian Church, DeLand. She retired as a secretary for Capital Machine and Switch Co.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Taylor. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, H. Frank Taylor; sons, Albert Frank Taylor, Danbury, CT and several nieces and nephews.

John A. Sylvia

December 24, 1943 - March 17, 2008

John A. Sylvia, 64, passed away peacefully March 17, 2008, at his uncle and aunt's home in DeLand surrounded by family. Mr. Sylvia was born in DeLand and lived in the Volusia County area all his life except when serving his country in the U.S. Army. He attended elementary school at St. Peter's Catholic Church and DeLand Junior and Senior High Schools. He worked in the fern industry for Ronald Jones Fernery in Pierson until his retirement in 2007. He loved the outdoors and was happiest when he was hunting or fishing on lakes in the area. He enjoyed life, especially when spending time with family and friends.

Mr. Sylvia is survived by his daughter, Shawn Sylvia, Australia, who was his pride and joy; sisters, Catherine Beissel (Donald), Leesburg, and Carol Webb (Harold), Lake Helen. He is also survived by three very special relatives who provided for his care during his illness, Tom and Nanci Sylvia and Ann Yoakley.

A graveside service will be held Friday, March 21, at 11 a.m. at Oakdale Cemetery with Chaplain James G. Patterson Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler.

Edgar Allen Toney Sr.

April 11, 1936 - March 17, 2008

Edgar Allen Toney Sr., was born April 11, 1936, to Renza A. Toney and Ethel Ragan, Lakeland, FL and was raised in the Florida Methodist Children's Home in Enterprise, FL. He was a 1955 graduate of DeLand High School and entered the Marine Corps in 1955 and retired in 1982 at the rank of Major. He married Ruth Ellen Goe and they celebrated their 50th anniversary in September 2007.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; son, Edgar A. Toney, Charlotte, NC; daughter, Linda Schutz, Charleston, SC; two brothers, Frank Toney, Haines City, FL and Edwin Toney, Houston, Texas ; sister, Alice Homer, Orlando; and a granddaughter, Bonnie Toney, Charlotte.

During his lifetime he became an avid sailor and owned his sailboat "Tuition" which he and his wife spent much time aboard with friends and family. He was a past commodore of the Rugged Point Yacht Club at Camp Lejeune, NC and was also active in the reunions of the U.S. Marine Corps Drill Instructors Association. Edgar was a graduate of East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.

His final request is to have his ashes spread on Shingle Creek at Edisto Island, SC, by his good friend, George Massey, whom he spent many hours with in the country. Memorial service will be Saturday, March 22, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Lankford Funeral Home. military honors will be provided by the U.S. Marine Corps.

Lance Wayne Garrick

December 30, 1938 - March 19, 2008

Lance Wayne Garrick, 69, DeLeon Springs, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008. Mr. Garrick was born in Hartford, CT and moved here in 1977 from Miami. He was retired as a captain for Eastern Airlines after 25 years and was an Army Vietnam veteran.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Betty Jean Garrick; two sons, Wayne Alan (Claudia) Garrick, DeLeon Springs and Glen Garrick, DeLand; granddaughter, Victoria Garrick; mother-in-law, Louise Tyler, Ocala and two nieces.

Memorial donations suggested to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.
