Mrs. Cindy Lou Vickery Averett, 35, of Richburg, S.C., previously of Southport, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, in Charlotte, N.C. Mrs. Averett was a longtime resident of Bay County and a Baptist by faith. She graduated from Mosley High School in 1985 and was a homemaker. Mrs. Averett was an avid lover of animals. She is survived by her husband, David Lee Averett of Richburg, S.C.; grandmother, Lillie Mae Vickery of Southport; parents, Edward W. and Lula V. Vickery of Southport; aunts and uncles, Ricky and Helen Southall of Youngstown, Wendell and Sue Richardson of Augusta, Ga., Marie Beebe of Port Richey, Fla., Minnie and Joe Stucky of Lakeland, Fla., Pat and Larry Jinks of Southport, and Jack and Stephanie Cox of Southport; numerous cousins; mother-in-law, Rose Mary Aiton, and husband, Oscar, of Rockhill, S.C.; father-in-law, Luther Averett of Fountain; brother-in-law, Alan Averett, and wife, Pam, of Rockhill, S.C.; niece, Brandie Averett; and nephew, Daniel Averett. Funeral services for Mrs. Averett will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at 10 a.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Alcus Brock officiating. Interment will follow in the Ebeneezer Cemetery in Vernon, Fla. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

STANLEY BACKHOFF
Mr. Stanley Backhoff, 58, of Youngstown, Fla., died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, at his home. Mr. Backhoff was born in Lafayette, Ind., and had lived in Bay County for the past several years. He was a retired truck driver and had worked for Winn Dixie for the past four years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, serving in the United States Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Marlene (White) Backhoff of Youngstown, Fla.; mother, Marrian Ingram of Lafayette, Ind.; son, Johnny T. Dawson of Youngstown, Fla.; daughter, Connie Hoffman of Panama City, Fla.; two stepsons, Woodford Eubanks of Panama City, Fla., and Michael Eubanks of Panama City, Fla.; stepdaughter, Angel Rollins of Panama City, Fla.; brother, Tom Backhoff of Indianapolis, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. (CST) Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, from the Chapel of Peavy Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Russ officiating. Interment will follow in Victory Hill Cemetery near Altha, Fla. The family will receive friends today, Jan. 3, 2002, from 2 (CST) to 5 p.m. at Peavy Funeral Home.

CECIL RAY BAZZELL
Cecil Ray Bazzell, 74, of Lynn Haven, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, in a local hospital. He had been a resident of Panama City from 1936 to 1946 before moving back to Panama City a year ago from Long Beach, Miss. He was a retired chief engineer for the McDermott Corporation. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Theodore Roosevelt Jefferson Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, and the Joppa Shrine Temple in Gulfport, Miss. He is survived by two brothers, Arthur Bazzel and his wife, Willie, Charles Bazzell and his wife, Jackie, all of Panama City; sister, Ruth Mae Farmer of Los Angeles, Calif.; three cousins, Harold Bazzel, Joe L. Bazzel and Thomas Earl Bazzel; nephews, Chester Bazzel, Ricky Bazzell, Tim Bazzell and Doug Bazzell; nieces, Pam McVee, Anita Elmore, Cathy Artz and Connie Bazzell; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Bruce Raley officiating. military honors by the U.S. Army, and Masonic rites by the Bay Lodge will follow the service. The Bay Lodge will open one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Those desiring to may make a contribution to the National Kidney Foundation of Florida or the American Diabetes Foundation in memory of Cecil Ray Bazzell.

MARTHA B. FRANKLIN
Mrs. Martha B. Franklin, 81, of 1013 Center Ave., died Wednesday, Dec. 26, in a local nursing center. She was a native of Jackson County, Fla., but had been a longtime resident of Bay County. She was a faithful member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and served on the usher board until the onset of her convalescence. She was survived by six devoted daughters, Joyce (Donald) Freeman, Marianna, Fla., Dorothy Reynolds, Lillie (Rohnes) Dixon, Elvira (Willie James) Coleman, the late Shirley Wagner Franklin, all of Panama City, and Elvira (Avon) McCarthy of Houma, La.; two sons, Bernard (Alice Jerry) Franklin and the late Matthew Franklin Jr., Panama City; two sisters, Hazel Wilson and Bessie Pittman, both of Marianna, Fla.; one brother, Aaron (Nellie) Black, Marianna, Fla.; 27 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Franklin will be held today, Jan. 3, at 1 p.m. in Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Louis Lamar officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Public visitation will begin at the funeral home from 1 to 8 p.m. today. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. The family will receive friends at 1013 Center Ave.

Funeral services for Mr. John "Derrick" Jernigan, 39, of Youngstown, Fla., who passed away Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Jan 3, 2002, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. BRIAN ALLEN REMILLARD
Brian Allen Remillard, 45, was a resident of Tallahassee. He died on Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, in Tallahassee. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at Meadowood Memorial Park in Tallahassee with burial also at Meadowood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Independent Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Jan. 3. Memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308-5428. Mr. Remillard was a native of Leominster, Mass., and resided in Tallahassee. He was a member of Oak City Assembly of God in Tallahassee. Mr. Remillard is survived by his wife, Lisa Remillard, of Tallahassee. They were married for 11 years. He had two sons, Jeremy Remillard of Dunlap, Tenn., and Aaron Remillard of Tallahassee; three daughters, April Remillard and Nichole Remillard, both of Tallahassee, and Aimes Remillard of Dunlap; parents, Arthur and Shirley Remillard of Panama City; brothers, Danny Remillard of Indianapolis, Ind., Richard and Arthur Remillard, both of Gainesville, Ga., and Joseph Roush; and sisters, Lori McCrary, Pam Remillard, Brenda Brock, Bonnie Nichols, Vicky Sessum, Debbie Cartright and Sherry Offenbacher.

Mrs. Louise Ross, 62, of 1701 Hamilton Ave. B 112, died Thursday, Dec. 27, at her home. She was a native of Marianna, but had lived and worked in Bay County for over 40 years. She was a kind, sweet woman, loved by all who knew her. Mrs. Ross was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Ross. JAMES W. DEHNE
James W. Dehne, 72, of Springfield, Fla., passed away on Dec. 21, 2001, at his home. James was born in Appleton, Wis., and moved to this area in the early 1950s from Wisconson. He had been an equipment mechanic with Civil Service for 30 years, working at Tyndall Air Force Base. James was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and had served his country in Korea, California, and Tyndall A.F.B. He was a Christian gentleman. James is preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 20 years, Joann Jenkins Dehne. Survivors include his son, Steven J. Dehne, of Springfield, Fla., and his daughter, Lisa A. Lynch (Ricky), of Lynn Haven, as well as two grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Millville Cemetery, with Deacon George Lynch of the 1st Baptist Church of Wewahitchka officiating on Monday, Jan. 7, 2002.

Funeral services for Ora Dee Paramore, 86, of Panama City, who went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. WALTER EUGENE 'BUDDY' ROBINSON
Walter E. Robinson, 72, of 709 E. 12th St., died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001 in a local nursing center. He was a native of Dalkeith, Fla., but had been a longtime resident of Bay County. He was born to the late Deacon Samuel and Willie Mae Robinson. He was a longtime member of Neal Temple First Born Church and rededicated his life to the Lord in November 1987. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by his two daughters, Mrs. Linda Williams (Ulysses), Rochester, N.Y., Mrs. Sheila Pierre-Louis (Hyvens), Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three sisters, Mrs. Daisy Clayton, Panama City, Missionary Roxie Bacon, Irvington, N.J., Mrs. Willie Ola Brown, Panama City; two brothers, Mr. Ulysees Robinson, Panama City; Mr. Robert J. Baker, Port St. Joe, Fla.; two grandsons, Kadahse Williams, Rochester, N.Y., Samuel Pierre-Louis, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Annie Lee Baker, Port St. Joe; one uncle, Mrs. Joseph Clayton, Port St. Joe; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mr. Robinson will be held Sunday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. in Neal Temple First Born Church with Bishop S.J. Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
