IVEY J. COOPER
Mr. Ivey J. Cooper, 81, of Port St. Joe, Fla., passed away Saturday, April 20, 2002, in a local health-care facility. Born in Ochlocknee, Ga., in 1921, he had been a resident of Port St. Joe since 1953. Mr. Cooper was an instruments mechanic for the Port St. Joe Paper Company for 38 years and was a longtime member of the Paper Manufacturers Union. He was Methodist by faith. Mr. Cooper is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Perry Cooper; and brother, Floyd Cooper. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norene J. Cooper of Port St. Joe; two daughters, Rita Lucas and husband, Steve, of Charleston, S.C., and Sonia Minors and husband, Tim, of LaGrange, Ga.; one brother, Preston Lee Cooper and wife, Lena, of Ochlocknee; sister-in-law, Lois Cooper of Ochlocknee; three grandchildren, Kim Lucas and husband, Stein Kosi, of Taylorsville, N.C., Brandon Lucas and wife, Danielle, of Charleston, S.C., and Brittany Lauren Minors of LaGrange, Ga.; one great-grandchild, Jeremy Lucas of Charleston, S.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services for Mr. Cooper will be conducted today, April 23, at 2 p.m. EDT at the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Fernandez officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church or charity of your choice or to the American Heart Association in memory of Mr. Cooper

GERTRUDE S. GOLEMBIEWSKI
Mrs. Gertrude S. Golembiewski of Panama City died Thursday, April 18, 2002, in a local nursing home. Born in Germany, she had been a resident of Panama City since 1964. Mrs. Golembiewski is survived by her husband, Steve Golembiewski of Panama City; and one son, Hans Peter Assmus of Germany. Funeral services for Mrs. Golembiewski will be conducted Friday, April 26, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Eva F. Hiers, age 68, of Panama City, who went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 19, 2002, at her residence, will be held at 2 p.m. today, April 23, at Springfield Community Church with the Rev. John G. Hunt, the Rev. Carl Curti, and the Rev. Bruce Bush officiating. Interment will follow at Lynn Haven Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Springfield Community Church "J.W. Hunt Educational Building Fund."

GIRTHA McFATTER MILLER
Girtha McFatter Miller, age 103, "Aunt Girtha" to all who know and loved her, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 22, 2002. She was born Oct. 10, 1898, in Washington County, Fla. She was a member of Wausau Assembly of God Church. She was active in a local quilting group. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Leslie Miller; and her only child, W.L. Miller Jr. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Phyllis Miller Mashburn; brothers, James McFatter, Ransey McFatter, Floyd McFatter, and Johnnie S. McFatter. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Quida Miller; grandson, the Rev. Hayward L. Miller and wife, Dianne; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Kristen Miller, Rick, Chad, and Brandon Mashburn, and Melissa Vongdora; great-great-grandchildren, Trey and Ryan Mashburn, Austin and Savanah Vongdora. Surviving brother is George McFatter and surviving sister is Otis Moss. She has a host of nieces and nephews. Special love and appreciation to Dr. Robert Snare and the Third Floor nurses and staff of Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley, Fla. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, at Wausau Assembly of God Church, Wausau, Fla., with the Revs. T.A. Greene and Douglas Harn officiating. Burial will follow in Wausau Memorial Gardens, Wausau, Fla. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, prior to the services.

DENNIS JOHN CIAS
Mr. Dennis John Cias, 58, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Sunday, April 21, 2002, at a local hospital. He had been a resident of the area for 15 years, coming here from Tulsa, Okla. Mr. Cias was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Panama City. He is survived by a son, David Cias of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Mary Cias of Whitewater, Wis.; a brother, Gerald Cias of Sacramento, Calif.; and a sister, Alice Sablowski of Brookfield, Wis. Mr. Cias was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Cias. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 26, at First Presbyterian Church of Panama City with the Rev. Walter Cathey officiating.

ROSEMARY ANN DEAN
Mrs. Rosemary Ann Dean, 65, of Panama City, Fla., passed away, Monday, April 22, 2002, at a local hospital. Mrs. Dean was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and had lived in Panama City for 47 years. She was a registered nurse and worked for Drs. Fishel, Reese, and Daffin for 30 years. Mrs. Dean was a member of Northside Baptist Church and was an active volunteer with local charities. She is survived by her husband, Curtis M. Dean of Panama City; two sons, William Payne and his wife, Shondi, of Panama City, and Bryant Commander of Bay County; a grandson, Bradley Payne of Panama City; and her aunt, Ada Oursland of Panama City. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. William D. Carter; and her parents, Jim and Cecil Russell. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jerry Moore officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home today, April 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Emerald Coast, P.O. WILLIAM LEONARD GRAY
William Leonard Gray, 94, of 2314 Magnolia Drive, Panama City Beach, died April 22, 2002, in a local hospital. He was retired from the credit-loan and real estate business. He was also co-owner of Gray Lumber Company. He was past president of the Magnolia Estate Community Board and was a member of Panama Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Loretta W. Gray of Panama City Beach; daughter, Paula Gray Collins of Lynn Haven; sons, Robert A. Gray of Panama City, Rick Gray of Fayetteville, Ark.; brother, David B. Gray of Panama City; five grandchildren, Karen Silvey of Satellite Beach, Fla., Kim Haynes, Karla K. Collins, both of Lynn Haven, Kelly Collins Lee, Bunny Gray, both of Panama City; and seven great-grandchildren, Kelsey Bashaw, Joseph Bashaw, Britney Haynes, Josh Haynes, Laney Haynes, Kayla Lee and Kristian Lee. Memorial services will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Si Mathison officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 5 to 6 p.m. Those desiring to may make a contribution to your favorite charity in memory of William Leonard Gray. ROSE MARIE APPENZELLER
Mrs. Rose Marie Appenzeller, 83, of Panama City Beach, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2002, at her residence. She was born in Woodbine, N.J., and had lived in Panama City Beach for 21 years, moving here from Columbus, Ga. Mrs. Appenzeller was a homemaker and a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, where she was a choir member and former president of the Ladies Guild. She was a member of the Panama City Woman's Club, Garden Club, Retired Officer's Wives Club, and was an auxiliary member of the T.R.O.A. She also served as adviser for the Panama City Beach Woman's Club and sang with the Sunshine Singers, performing in local nursing facilities. Mrs. Appenzeller is survived by a son, George W. "Butch" Appenzeller and his wife, Sarah, of Columbia, S.C.; two daughters, Gail Riddle and her husband, Glenn, of Hope Mills, N.C., and Margaret "Peggy" Martin and her husband, Todd, of Boca Raton, Fla.; three grandchildren, Maj. Ned Appenzeller and his wife, Mandy, of Heidelberg, Germany, Matthew Appenzeller of Charleston, S.C., and Joey Riddle of Boston, Mass.; two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Forest Appenzeller of Heidelberg, Germany; and a brother, Gene Naples of Englewood, Fla. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 29, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church with Father David T. Oshea officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Dan Rogers, Dean Highfield, Gary Nellis, Charles Poolos, Michael Ovca, and Rob Fernandes. The family will receive friends at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Sunday, April 28, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. A rosary service will be held at the funeral home at 6 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Louise Ogburn Avery, 92, of 2818 State 77, Panama City, will be conducted today, April 27, 2002, at 11 a.m. in Central Pentecostal Ministries with the Rev. Don Shoots officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as active pallbearers: Bro. T. Riley, Bro. Mike McFatter, Bro. LEON BLEVINS
Mr. Leon "Buddy" Blevins, of Panama City, died Friday morning, April 26, 2002, in a local hospital. Born in Maryville, Tenn., he moved to Panama City in 1972 from Savannah, Ga. Mr. Blevins retired from the United States Army as a master sergeant, and from the Bay County Sheriff's Office as a captain. He was a member of the Pythagoras Masonic Lodge No. 358, the Shaddai Shrine Temple and the O.E.S. Miracle Chapter No. 306. Mr. Blevins is survived by his wife, Virginia Blevins of Panama City; one son, Matthew Blevins and wife, Charlene, of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Donna Blevins-Rendon and husband, Joe, of Houston, Texas; one brother, Earl Blevins of Maryville, Tenn.; four sisters, Margaret Russell, Mildred Fagg, Jean Matlock and Juanita Whitehead, all of Maryville; five grandchildren, Jason Medina, Heather Blevins, Brooke Rendon, Ryan Blevins and Matthew Blevins; and one great-grandchild, Michelle Medina. Memorial services for Mr. Blevins will be conducted Sunday, April 28, at 11 a.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel. Full Masonic rites will be given at the funeral home. The lodge will be open one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice at 2589 Jenks Ave., Panama City, FL 32405, in memory of Mr. Blevins. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Matthew Sweetser and staff.
