Wood, Evelyn I. R.
Evelyn I. R. Wood, 68, of Fernandina Beach, wife of Bradley Wood, passed away Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Shands Medical Center in Jacksonville. A native of Tela, Honduras, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Antonia Rodriquez Robinson, and had resided on Amelia Island since 1987, when she and her husband relocated from Norwich, Conn. Mrs. Wood was a 1954 graduate of Keene High School (in New Hampshire) where she excelled as a cheerleader. She then furthered her education with a degree from Pierce College in Concord, N.H., in 1956.
Mrs. Wood served as the Assistant Town Clerk of Preston, Conn., from 1977-87. Since 1987, she has been the co-owner of Fleet Cleaners of St. Marys, Ga. Mrs. Wood was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles E. Robinson. Survivors, besides her husband, include: her children, Brad E. Wood, of Algeria, Costa Rica, and Andrew E. Wood of Fernandina Beach, Veronica E. Reinhardt of Orlando and Anita E. Jensen of Madison, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Norman Robinson, of Burlington, Vt.; and her identical twin sister, Helen Sherman, of Portsmouth, N.H.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Brian Eburn officiating. Interment will be at a later date. The family will receive friends Friday morning from 9-11 a.m. at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home.
Nikki C. Carmichiel
Nikki C. Carmichiel, 35, North Fletcher Avenue, Fernandina Beach, passed away Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Baptist Medical Center Nassau. A native of Lake Worth, she was the manager of Max's BBQ and Billiards on Alachua Street, and had lived in Fernandina Beach for the last year after relocating from Atlanta, Ga. Ms. Carmichiel was a graduate of John I. Leonard High School in Palm Beach County, and loved her family and the ocean. She will be remembered as a great person and friend to all, and especially by her children as "The Bestest Mommy."
She was predeceased by dad Thomas Clarke and grandfather Russel Rhodes.
Survivors include her children, Lindsay Logun, Skylar Moody and Jordan Braund, all of Fernandina Beach; her mother, Donna Jordan and stepfather Duane Jordan of Delray Beach; father James Carmichiel; grandmother Jeanne Rhodes of West Palm Beach; sister Stephanie Clarke of Boynton Beach; brother Daniel Jordan of Delray Beach; former husband Derek Moody; her loving companion, John Braund of Fernandina Beach; and a multitude of loving family and friends.
A memorial service was held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the beachfront of her home at 729 North Fletcher Ave. There will be no visitation.

Deloris C. Martin
Deloris C. Martin, 69, Yulee, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at her residence. A native of Morgantown, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Arthur Pearl Morris and Mable Sylvia Hebb Morris, and had resided in Northeast Florida since 1964. Mrs. Martin was a homemaker and a Christian and enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, helping others and giving to everyone.
Survivors include: her children, Sherry Wagner of East Lake, Ohio, Peggy (Fred) Martin of Lake City, Joseph "Danny" (Mary) Messoria of Yulee, and Joseph "Bret" (Marilyn) Martin of Ghennes Heights, Pa.; a brother, Donald Glen (Pauline) Morris of Jacksonville; five sisters, Ruth Mefford, Charlotte Barber, and Sue Walter, all of Morgantown, W.Va, and Madlyn Grabowski and Dixie Bartlett of New Port Richey; 7 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Home with Mrs. Martin's son, the Rev. Joseph Martin, officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening at the funeral home. Mary Frances Teston
Mary Frances Teston, 66, North 15th Street, Fernandina Beach, passed away Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville. A native of Jesup, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Willie Dee Beasley and Lois Moody Beasley, and had resided in Nassau County since 1962.
Mrs. Teston worked as a secretary for the Florida Park Service at Fort Clinch until her retirement in the mid-1970s. She was a member of Five Points Baptist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron, and Beauchant for the York Rite Women. Mrs. Teston enjoyed flower and plant gardening, and caring for her family.
Survivors include: her husband of 50 years, Ottis C. Teston; her children, Kenny Teston of Fernandina Beach and Wanda (Kevin) James of Kingsland, Ga.; her grandchildren, Clint, Emily and Ryan Teston, Will Joyce, David Howard, Mary Beth James and Angelisa Harris; a great-grandson, Caleb Rosier; two brothers, Bill Beasley of Jesup, Ga., and Jerrod Beasley of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Judy Jump of Palatka, Barbara Beasley of Kingsland, Ga., and Ginger Crawford of Midway, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Jeffrey Beasley.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Five Points Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Dees officiating. Burial was in Bosque Bello Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home.

Lucretia Schout Titcomb
Lucretia Schout Titcomb, 90, died on Feb. 1, 2004, after an extended illness. Born on April 26, 1913, she was a native of Jacksonville. As a child, she danced in "The Nutcracker Suite" at the old Florida Theatre. She raised six children. She was preceded in death by a sister and brother and by her daughter, Denyse T. O'Hagen.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Earl F. Titcomb Sr.; her sister, Annie S. Robinson of Jacksonville; three daughters, Gail White and Jimmy, Mary Barr Lacoss and Terry, and Donna Stringfellow, all of Fernandina Beach; sons Earl F. Titcomb Jr. and Dolly of Savannah, Ga., and Eric L. Titcomb Sr. and Winifred of Fernandina Beach; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She leaves a legacy of love, strong will and warmth.
She was laid to rest at Bosque Bello Cemetery
in Fernandina Beach. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Michael's Academy.
James Rabon Walker
James Rabon Walker, 85, of St. Marys, Ga., died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at Hospice of the Golden Isles after an extended illness. He was born to the late Isaiah W. and Fostina Walker on April 8, 1918. James was a lifelong resident of Camden County. He served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Coast Guard.
He was a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church and of Local 1128 Machinist Union and was one of the founding members of the St. Marys Boat Club. He was preceded in death by a son, Kent Walker.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alice Walker of St. Marys, Ga.; two sons, Craig Walker of Browntown and James Walker and wife Boots of Browntown; a daughter, Judy Walker of Fernandina Beach; four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mr. Walker were held Feb. 4, 2004, at 4 p.m. at Edo Miller Camden Chapel with the Rev. Jack McCollough officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Pkwy., Brunswick, GA 31525.

Mary Ellen Williamson
Mary Ellen Williamson, 67, of Fernandina Beach, passed away on Jan. 24, 2004. Mary, formerly of Logan, W.Va, was born Feb. 3, 1936, in Man, W.Va. She was the daughter of the late James H. Gibson and Florence H. Gibson.
Mrs. Williamson was preceded in death by her first husband, James T. Williamson, an infant son, Carl Williamson, and the late Roger Dale Deer, her companion of 27 years.
Survivors include: one sister, Violet (Wilburn) Jude of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, James (Darlene) Gibson of Logan; four sons, James T. Williamson Jr. of Fernandina Beach, John B. Williamson of Columbus, Ohio, Walter (Crystal) Williamson of Mt. Gay, W.Va, and Paul (Sherry) Williamson of Lancaster, Ohio; four daughters, Yvonne (Scott) Duty of Dayton, Ohio, Brenda (Dallas) Marcum of Columbus, Ohio, Kitten (Steve) Clemens of Holden, W.Va, and Stella (Ron) Thompson of Dayton, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Lois F. Brazell
Lois F. Brazell, 66, Fernandina Beach, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2004, at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Jacksonville. A native of Catawba County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late John W. and Clara Wimberly Robinson and had resided on Amelia Island for almost 50 years.
Mrs. Brazell was a homemaker and also worked for many years as a waitress in Fernandina Beach at the Sandbar Restaurant, the Seaside Inn, Shoney's Restaurant and Famous Amos' Restaurant. She was a longtime member of the Five Points Baptist Church and enjoyed reading, especially Danielle Steele's novels and gothic stories, and caring for and playing with her grandchildren.
Survivors include: her husband, James E. "Flash" Brazell; her children, Ginger (Tony) Hair and Sandra Morris of Fernandina Beach, Debbie (Billy) Colsen of Brunswick, Ga., and Kirt Daniel of Yulee; a sister, Erma Houle of Arlington, Texas; and five grandchildren, Erica Morris, Ciara Morris, Laura (Matt) Bowen, Tildon Hair and Tony Hair, all of Fernandina Beach.

Kenneth Edward Cain Sr.
Fernandina Beach artist, Kenneth Edward Cain Sr., died at his home on April 22, 2004.
He was born in Rockford, Ill., in 1928 and was raised in DeKalb, Ill., where he married Joanne Parke, his high school sweetheart. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and graduated from Northern Illinois University on the GI Bill. The couple moved to Ft. Lauderdale soon after and remained there until 2001, when they relocated to Fernandina Beach.
Ken painted throughout his life and worked in his garage studio until the last few months, producing abstract paintings, most currently displayed at the Waterwheel Gallery in Fernandina Beach and The Explorers Club Gallery in Tallahassee.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joanne Parke Cain, and leaves behind many wonderful memories to be cherished by his five children: Kenneth Cain Jr. (wife Eliza) of Fernandina Beach; Gary Cain (wife Cheryl) of Gainesville; Richard Cain of Vienna, Va.; Douglas Cain (wife Suzanne) of Stokesdale, N.C.; and Kathy Cain Drake (husband Dan) of Tallahassee; his nine grandchildren and his beloved dog, Ginger.

Funeral services for Catherine Huber Ecklof will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 6317 103rd St. in Jacksonville, with the Rev. Suzanne Brooks-Cope officiating. Interment services will follow at 11:15 a.m. at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Ecklof was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder, Trustee and many offices of the Presbyterian Women. She was Receiving Treasure for many years. Her life memberships include: Doylestown, Pa. High School Alumni Association; Alumni Association of the School of Nursing Hospital University of Penna; Florida Congress of Parents and Teachers; National Congress of Parents and Teachers; the Garden Club of Jacksonville; Church Women United Valiant Woman Award; and Presbyterian Women (Presbyterian Church USA).
Mrs. Ecklof is survived by three sons, Allen R. Ecklof and his wife Anita, James W. Ecklof Jr. and Gary N. Ecklof and his wife Chantal; daughter, Christine C. Maurer and her husband Val; brother, Russell Huber and his wife Barbara; and seven grandchildren.

Jean Graves Norris Hart
Jean Graves Norris Hart, 87, died on Sunday, April 25, 2004, in Fernandina Beach.
Mrs. Hart was born on Sept. 7, 1916, in Greenville, S.C. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Middleton Norris. She graduated from Greenville High School and Winthrop College. She taught Home Economics in schools in Holly Hill and Harleyville, S.C. She was also employed by Santee Wholesale Company, Holly Hill, S.C., and Southland Life insurance Company, Columbia, S.C. She worked for many years in the Order Department of the University of South Carolina Library. She was an active member of Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia, S.C., especially in the activities of the Senior Adult Department.
Mrs. Hart was the first resident of the Laurel Crest Retirement Center in West Columbia, S.C. She actively participated in Laurel Crest life with her many friends there for seven years before moving to Osprey Village Assisted Living Center on Amelia Island.
Mrs. Hart was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 50 years, Felder Pat Hart, her son, First Lt. Joseph Felder Hart, her brother, Andrew Middleton Norris Jr., and her sister, Betty Ann Peters.
Survivors include: a daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Charles Palmer Pillans III of Amelia Island; grandson, Charles Palmer Pillans IV and his wife Karen of Nashville, Tenn.; granddaughter, Helen Hart Roberts and her husband Owen Mortimer Roberts IV of Athens, Ga.; her sister, Margaret Norris Kovachik of Fairfield, Conn.; her brother-in-law, Charles Hodge Peters of Brevard, N.C.; her sisters-in-law, Lucy Norris of Franklin, Tenn., Hazel Hart of Charleston, S.C., Virginia Brown of Charlotte, N.C., and Virginia Hart of Mars Hill, N.C.; five great-grandchildren, Owen Mortimer Roberts V, Mary Palmer Roberts, Julia Mims Roberts, Joseph Benton Pillans and Patrick Graves Pillans, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Nancy Ellis Smithers
Nancy Ellis Smithers, 79, Amelia Island, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at her Osprey Village residence. A native of Akron, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Julia Smith Ellis, and had resided in Nassau County since 2001, when she relocated from Ocean Reef, Key Largo, where she had lived for 25 years.
Ms. Smithers received her education at Arizona State University, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was a professional clown and studied at the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse Clown College.
She was a public school teacher in Tempe, Ariz., and Hudson, Ohio. Ms. Smithers also taught English as a second language in the Adult Education Program in Monroe County. She owned The Cabbage Patch, a miniature doll store in Hudson, Ohio. She was a world traveler, and hosted many exchange students during her life and was very active in the Experiment in International Living, a student exchange program.
Ms. Smithers was an artist and sculptor and was talented in many arts and crafts fields, including furniture restoring and rug hooking. She was an accomplished author and even wrote her own autobiography which was published under the title, Never Give Up, My Autobiography, by Nancy Smithers.
Survivors include: a son, Dr. Larry (Ruth) Smithers, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; a grandson, Brandon (Bethany) Smithers, Jacksonville; a granddaughter, Rachel (Dana Bongle) Smithers, Kellnersville, Wis.; a sister, Judy (Dr. Robert) Breckenridge, Rochester, N.Y.; three nieces, Amie (Daniel Farrance) Breckenridge, Fairport, N.Y., Sara (David B.) Sproat, Germany, and Jeniphr (Mark V.) Lanning, Seattle, Wash.; two grand-nieces and two grand-nephews; her longtime special friend, Peter DeDecker of Amelia Island; and her loving dog, Humprey Bogart, aka "Bogie," whom she found in Key Largo.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, May 3, at the Amelia Island Plantation Chapel, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ted Schroeder, pastor, officiating. A celebration of her life will take place at the Ocean Club of the Amelia Island Plantation following the memorial service. Eustis Sutton
Eustis Sutton, 69, of Fernandina Beach passed away Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Kindred Hospital in Green Cove Springs.
A native of Race Pond, Ga., Mr. Sutton had been a resident of Fernandina Beach since 1940. During his military career he served in the United States Navy from July 1957 until his honorable discharge in June 1961 with the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. He was employed by Container Corporation of America in Fernandina Beach for 45 years, where he worked as a computer programmer until his retirement in 1998.
He was a longtime and faithful member of Springhill Baptist Church in Nassauville. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as being a NASCAR fan for many years.
Survivors include: his son, David E. (Neelie) Sutton; daughter, Diane E. Sutton; sister, Colean A. Edenfield; two granddaughters, Madison and Carson Sutton; and three grandsons, Bailey Sutton, Drake Jewell and Joshua Scopino, all of Fernandina Beach.
Funeral services were held Monday at 10 a.m. graveside in Bosque Bello Cemetery
with Mr. Jimmy Mayer, First Vice Commander, and the Rev. Jackie Hayes, pastor of Springhill Baptist Church, officiating, followed by military honors by the officers of V.F.W. American Legion Post #54 in Fernandina.

Richard "Dick" York
Richard "Dick" York, 55, of Fernandina Beach, died April 23, 2004, after a brief
illness at the Veterans Hospital in Lake City. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Debbie L. York.
He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne and did two tours in Vietnam. The couple moved to Fernandina Beach 25 1/2 years ago in 1978 and own their own trucking company.
Dick belonged to American Legion Post 54, the VFW and Eagles Club of Cincinnati.
He leaves behind many wonderful memories to be cherished by his family and friends, including: his son, Richard York of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter Amanda York of Fernandina Beach; brother, David (Marie) York and sisters Pam (Les) Sutter and Sandy (Ray) Snyder, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; and three grandchildren.
The family requests no cards and no flowers. A private gathering of family will take place at a later date.
