Allison, Edna K.
Edna K. Allison, 83, of Jacksonville passed away Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Kindred Hospital of North Florida in Green Cove Springs. A native of Abbeville, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Anderson Klugh and Marsha Myrtle Scott Klugh, and had resided in Northeast Florida for most of her life. Mrs. Allison was a homemaker and was a member of the Lake Shore United Methodist Church in Jacksonville.
Survivors include her children, Bob (Lynn) Allison of Fernandina Beach and Janice (M.B.) Platt of Yulee; three grandsons and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 1 p.m. cryptside in Greenlawn Cemetery

Julius Caesar Davis, 67, of Hilliard passed away Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003. He was the Facilities Director with Hilliard First Baptist. He was on the board of the Jacksonville Credit Union. He was on the board of the Northeast Area Agency of Aging. He was a member of Farm Bureau and he was also a member of ASCS.
Survivors include his wife, Joan D. Davis of Hilliard; five daughters, Terri (Greg) Still of Waycross, Ga., Susie (Don) Eidam of Savannah, Ga., Julie (Ronnie) Collins of St. Augustine and Sandra (Mike) Copeland of Juliette, Ga.; two sisters, Emily Connor of Hilliard and Estelle Pippin of Jacksonville; and grandchildren Alison Still, Erica Still, Brittany Eidam, Heather Eidam, Eric Collins, Samantha Collins, Hope Mashburn, Courtney Copeland, Adam Copeland, Katie Copeland, Caleb Fahlgren, Joshua Fahlgren and Abigail Fahlgren.
Visitation was held Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at Shepard Funeral Home in Folkston, Ga. Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Hilliard First Baptist Church with the Rev. Richie Allen officiating services. Internment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Deitzler, James E.
James E. Deitzler, 81, of 1906 Massey Circle, South Charleston, W.V., died Dec. 22, 2003, from a brain tumor which was discovered in October. Jim was born March 8, 1922, to the late Walter and Mary Price Deitzler at Lebanon, Pa. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1938 at the age of 16. He received his B.S. and masters in chemical engineering from Penn State University and his M.B.A. from West Virginia University. Jim served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II as a United States Naval Bomb Disposal Officer. He retired in 1985 from Union Carbide Corporation after 38 years as a Carbide chemical engineer. He attended the First Presbyterian Church of Charleston.
Jim was a SCORE volunteer. He kept in contact with a lifetime of friends by mail and later through his computer at Jdeitz1906 @aol.com. He loved cooking, particularly around Christmas when he baked cookies for family and friends. He most enjoyed eating at the Charleston Marriott Sunday brunch with his family. He exercised faithfully every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for seven years prior to his death, logging 850 workouts at the Hill, Peterson, Carper, Bee & Deitzler gym before his illness prevented his 851st active visit. He played piano well, and continued to practice until no longer able. Jim never stopped reading and learning, and kept up with current events through newspaper and electronic media, even during his last week.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Betty J. (Luchtemeyer) Deitzler; four children, Susan E. Fletcher of Fernandina Beach and her husband Carter, Harry Deitzler of Charleston, W.V., and his wife Kathe, Rebecca A. Deitzler of South Charleston and James E. (Eddie) Deitzler Jr. of South Charleston and his wife Celeste; six grandchildren, Rebecca and Jessica Fletcher, Erin and Brad Deitzler, Elizabeth and Jamie Deitzler; one brother, Richard Deitzler and wife Elise of Fayetteville, N.Y.; one sister, Betty Heuston of Palmyra, Pa.; and nieces Debbie Wolfe, Christie Lessels, Barbara Catroppa and Margie Zunder.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel, 16 Leon Sullivan Way, Charleston, W.V. Visitation with the family will be held in the church Ruffner room immediately following the service. DZmura, Andrew Peter
Andrew Peter DZmura, 79, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, peacefully at home surrounded by loving family. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pa., he had resided in Fernandina Beach for two years. A veteran of World War II, he graduated with an advanced degree in engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and was employed as an engineer with Westinghouse Corporation, and then for 20 years with the Department of Energy. His work required frequent relocations and he and his family lived in Pittsburgh, Hampton, N.H., Severna Park, Md., and Gaithersburg, Md.
After his retirement from the government in 1988, he and his wife fulfilled a dream by moving to Martha's Vineyard, Mass. There he had fun writing short stories and poetry, worked part-time, first in a book store and then for an island engineering firm. On a lark, he and his wife spent a year in Boulder, Colo., as he worked on a temporary contract. Prior to living in Fernandina Beach, he lived in Venice, Fla. Although his time in Fernandina Beach has been brief it has been rich as he had actively participated in the Nassau County Writers and Poets Society and had a poem featured in the Amelia Islander in April 2003.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Tess DZmura of Pittsburgh and Fernandina Beach; seven children, Andrew DZmura, of Leesburg, Va., Mary Vorndran, of Downingtown, Pa., Teri Pirozzi of Martha's Vineyard, Edward DZmura, of Georgetown, Mass., Elizabeth Blemker, of Georgetown, Sally Roven of Jupiter, and John DZmura of Highland, Md.; his brother, Thomas DZmura of Palm Desert, Calif.; and 13 grandchildren.

Holak, Raisa
Raisa Holak, 91, a resident of Quality Health of Fernandina Beach since 2000, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Baptist Medical Center Nassau. She was born on April 15, 1912, in Vilna, Russia (now known as Vilnius, Lithuania). She came to America in June of 1950, resided in Stamford, Conn. for more than 50 years, lived in Windsor, Conn., and West Suffield, Conn., before relocating to Florida in 1999. Raisa was the widow of Leonid Holak and is survived by her daughter, Hanna H. Agonis of Fernandina Beach and two grandchildren, Nicholas and Katherine. The funeral service was held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Home with the Rev. Ted Pisarchuk of St. Justins Orthodox Church officiating.

William Lawrence "Larry" Lay, 76, of Fernandina Beach passed away at the Community Hospice Morris Center in Jacksonville Sunday evening, Dec. 21, 2003. He was a native of Albany, Ga., and had made his home in Fernandina Beach for the past 54 years. He retired from Container Corp./Jefferson Smurfit. Memberships include the Memorial United Methodist Church, K.A.C., and Free and Accepted Masons. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Bunker Hill.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Becky Bellamy Lay of Fernandina Beach; a daughter, Melissa Lay Phillips (Everett) of Yulee; two granddaughters, Mary Anne Wathke and Jennifer Wathke; and a great-grandson, Tyler Lawrence Wingate.
The visitation was Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Green Pine Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Memorial United Methodist Church, 601 Centre St., Fernandina Beach, with Pastor Bruce Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Green Pine Cemetery, 3407 Green Pine Road in Yulee.

Muncy, Leon Sr.
Leon Muncy, Sr., 73, of Fernandina Beach passed away Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at his home. A native of Bradshaw, W.Va., Mr. Muncy had resided in Jacksonville for a number of years before relocating to Fernandina in 1995. During his career he served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps during both the Korean and Vietnam wars, then retiring in 1972. Afterwards he was employed as an automobile hauler for Centurion Truck Lines from 1980 until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Bailey Road Church of God in Fernandina.
Survivors include his loving wife, Mary F. Muncy of Fernandina Beach; his five sons, Leon Muncy Jr. and Frankelyn Frye of Fernandina Beach, David L. Frye, Robert W. Frye and Steven C. Frye, all of Jacksonville; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family received friends Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home in Fernandina Beach. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Bailey Road Church of God with pastor Rev. Noel Roberts officiating. Interment followed with military honors at Hughes Cemetery

Perkins, Maggie
Maggie Perkins of Fernandina Beach passed away Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2003. She was a member of Greater Fernandina Church of God. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Starretha Armstead, and a son, Brian Perkins.
Survivors include her daughters, Aretha Bacon, Ladene Perkins and Medaline Scott, all of Fernandina Beach; sisters, Carrie Boatman of Fernandina Beach, Evelyna Williams of Orlando, Josephine Anderson of Orlando, and Marie Bryd of Fernandina Beach; brothers, Joseph Perkins of Fernandina Beach and Henry Hendrix of Lawtey; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a host of other friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Greater Fernandina Church of God on Fourth Street, Fernandina Beach.

Price, James Melton "Jim" Jr.
James Melton "Jim" Price Jr., 46, of Pine Ridge, S.C., passed away Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, as the result of injuries received in a tragic accident aboard a shrimp boat in the Atlantic Ocean near Fernandina Beach. A native of Columbia, S.C., Jim was the son of the late James M. and Violet Patricia Lynch and was born Jan. 19, 1957.
Survivors include a brother, Chris Price of Brunswick, Ga., and several aunts and uncles. Graveside services were held Tuesday, Dec. 23, at 3:30 p.m. in Southland Memorial Gardens in West Columbia, S.C.
Provenzano, Zena M.
Zena M. Provenzano, 95, of Fernandina Beach passes away Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at I.H.S. of North Jacksonville. Born in New York City, she had lived on Long Island for 55 years before relocating to Fernandina Beach in 1993.
Mrs. Provenzano was a lab technician with the New York City Health Department in the 1930s, the president of the Ladies Auxiliary on Long Island and active in many charitable organizations, including the American Heart Association and the Red Cross. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and an avid bridge player. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Joseph Provenzano, in 1976 and her daughter, Janet P. Coles of Fernandina Beach, in 2001.
Survivors include two grandchildren, John F. McLaughlin of Long Island, N.Y., and Janis Williamson of Yulee; four great-grandchildren; and three sisters and a brother, all of Brooklyn, N.Y.
Desiring to honor her wishes, her family arranged to have a simple, dignified cremation with no memorial services.
Robinson, Vurnolia Mae
Vurnolia (Nolie) Mae Robinson, 90, of Fernandina Beach passed away Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Baptist Medical Center Nassau.
She was born Dec. 16, 1913, to the late John Melvin Googe and Sallie Mae Tyson in Hazlehurst, Ga. She was married to Burrell Fredrick Odom in Hazlehurst. He preceded her in death in 1944. After moving to Fernandina in 1944 from Brunswick, Ga., she married Harvey Benton Robinson, who preceded her in death in 1990.
Mrs. Robinson was a homemaker most of her life. She retired from the Nassau County School District Food Services in 1978 after 12 years of service. She attended Cornerstone Church in Texas via television.
She celebrated her 90th birthday in December at Robert Odom's home with all of her children present. A grandson, three great-grandchildren, a sister and close friend also attended.
Survivors include three sisters, Leona Miner of McDonough, Ga., Helen McDermott of Fernandina Beach and Betty Vidler of West Monroe, La.; four sons, Oscar Odom, Robert Odom and Harvey Robinson of Fernandina Beach and Billy Joe Odom of Pipe Creek, Texas; a daughter, Debbie Robinson of Fernandina Beach; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow at 3 p.m. in Bosque-Bello Cemetery

Storer, Andrew Frederick
Andrew Frederick Storer, 85, of Amelia Island Plantation, passed away Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Osprey Village Assisted Living Center in Fernandina Beach. A native of Watertown, N.Y., Mr. Storer attended Bard College of Columbia University in New York, where he graduated as a John Bard Scholar in 1940. He served in the European theater during World War II as an officer in the U.S. Army 5th Armored Calvary Division, retiring as a lieutenant colonel and earning the Bronze Star for meritorious service. Storer became one of Amelia Island Plantation's first property owners in 1973, and moved to the island permanently in 1986 after a 40-year sales and marketing career with St. Regis Paper Company, retiring as Director of Corporate Accounts and Assistant Vice-President. Mr. Storer served as President of the Trade Relations Association, Inc. during 1966-67 and was one of its founding members. Over the years, he enjoyed golf, skiing and curling among his favorite sports endeavors and was a fan of jazz music.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Barbara Boulton Storer; a brother, James Allen Storer of Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Andrea Duncan of Louisville, Ky., and Susan Gombocz of Armonk, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Kristen deClive-lowe of Louisville, Ky., Parker Andrew Duncan of San Francisco, and James Gombocz of Armonk, N.Y.; and two great-grandsons, Liam and Olive deClive-lowe of Louisville, Ky..

Sweat, Aubrey Lonnie
Aubrey Lonnie Sweat, 73, of Yulee passed away Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Baptist Medical Center Nassau. A native of Odum, Ga., Mr. Sweat had resided in Jacksonville for nearly 40 years before relocating to Yulee in 2001. During his career he was employed as a constructional mechanic by the Julian P. Benjamin Construction Co in Jacksonville for many years as well as working for the Homelite Chainsaw Co. During his military career he served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War, running and repairing radios and equipment throughout the war behind enemy lines until his honorable discharge as sergeant. He attended the Yulee Assembly of God.
Survivors include two sisters, Myrtice Carter Joyner and D. Venita S. Durham, both of Yulee, and also many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Home with the Rev. George D. Young III, rector of St. Peters Episcopal Church in Fernandina Beach, officiating. Interment followed in Bosque-Bello Cemetery.

Nancy R. Campbell Ward, 69, of Fernandina Beach, wife of Ray G. Ward, passed away Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at the Morris Center of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida in Jacksonville following a lengthy illness. A native of Yulee, she was the daughter of the late George Oliver Campbell and Mrs. Annie Marie Thomas Campbell Japour of Fernandina Beach, and had resided in Northeast Florida her entire life. Mrs. Ward was retired from her position as Storeroom Supply Clerk with the Metal Container Division of Anheuser-Busch, Inc. of Jacksonville. She was a member of the Five Points Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, swimming, camping and attending bluegrass festivals.
Survivors, besides her husband and mother, include: her children, Jesse (Shannon) Green of Augusta, Ga. and Treatie Marie (Dennis) Wood of Middleburg; her step-children, Hugh Ward and Michael Ward of Jacksonville, and Judy Durham and Jerry Ward of Middleburg; two sisters, Fay C. Richman of Fernandina Beach and Rose C. (Doyle) Cason of Lake City; two brothers, Frank Oliver (Cindy) Campbell of Middleburg and George Andrew (Louise) Campbell of Sanderson; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Wood, Evelyn I. R.
Evelyn I. R. Wood, 68, of Fernandina Beach, wife of Bradley Wood, passed away Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Shands Medical Center in Jacksonville. A native of Tela, Honduras, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Antonia Rodriquez Robinson, and had resided on Amelia Island since 1987, when she and her husband relocated from Norwich, Conn. Mrs. Wood was a 1954 graduate of Keene High School (in New Hampshire) where she excelled as a cheerleader. She then furthered her education with a degree from Pierce College in Concord, N.H., in 1956.
Mrs. Wood served as the Assistant Town Clerk of Preston, Conn., from 1977-87. Since 1987, she has been the co-owner of Fleet Cleaners of St. Marys, Ga. Mrs. Wood was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles E. Robinson. Survivors, besides her husband, include: her children, Brad E. Wood, of Algeria, Costa Rica, and Andrew E. Wood of Fernandina Beach, Veronica E. Reinhardt of Orlando and Anita E. Jensen of Madison, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Norman Robinson, of Burlington, Vt.; and her identical twin sister, Helen Sherman, of Portsmouth, N.H.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Brian Eburn officiating. Interment will be at a later date. The family will receive friends Friday morning from 9-11 a.m. at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home.
