Deputy Yona Sue Valdez, MCSO-Retired
Yona Sue Valdez, age 69, of Palmetto, She passed peacefully in her sleep on November 3, 2011. Yona was born
on December 30, 1942 in Owensboro, KY to the late Kenneth & Margie (Tatum) Phegley. She moved to Manatee County in 1966 coming from AZ. Yona was truly a pioneer with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office where she was the first female bailiff and the first female deputy to go on the road. While with the MCSO, she received the honor of Deputy of the Month in 1993 and then in 1999 was named officer of the year. She also was a recipient in 1999 of the Medal of Valor for heroic actions in the line of duty. Yona retired from the Manatee County Sheriff Office in 2006 with 29 years of service. Yona was predeceased by her companion David R. Martin in 2009, and her sisters; Anna E. Tio, Glenna L. Benham. She was a loving mother to her sons and daughters; David V. Valdez of Sarasota, M. Dean Valdez of Ogunquit, ME, Anita G. Valdez of Tucson, AZ, Lisa Brehmer of Anchorage, AK, loving sister of Phillip Phegley of Paducah, KY, Barbara N. Williams of Bradenton, Sherril D. Reichenbach of Orville, CA, a dear and caring grandmother of ten grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, and by her faithful companion dog Elmer. Services will be held at 3 P.M. on Monday, November 7, 2011 at the Manasota Memorial Park, Bradenton. The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Florida Sheriff’s Boys Ranch in her memory. She will be remembered in the community as a kind and giving officer who gave above and beyond her call of duty and was a true warrior.
Mr. Amos Jackson Winchester
Amos Jackson (AJ/Jack) Winchester, Jr. born
April 16, 1919 in St. Louis, Mo. died on November 4, 2011. Son of Amos Jackson Winchester, Sr. and Julia LeFever Winchester. Graduated from Clayton High School and University of Missouri. He began his work career at Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, Pa. He received his Master in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. From Westinghouse he went to work for EW Bliss Company in Salem, Ohio, then for General Electric first in Schenectady, NY and finally in Roanoke, VA. In his career he had many patents, most notably he received a patent for being the first person to computerize a steel mill. He was a member of the GE Elfun Society and received General Electric’s Award for Distinguished Service. Jack was an elder in many churches including Beulah Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, Pa.; First Presbyterian Church Salem, Ohio; East Glenville Community Church in Glenville, NY; and a deacon at Grace Church, Roanoke, VA. and Sarasota Baptist Church, Sarasota, Fl. He and his wife served for 15 years as volunteers in the Wycliffe Ministry for JAARS in Waxhaw, NC and in England. Jack was married to Harriet Carter for 66 years. He is the father of Bob Winchester (wife Susan) of Alplaus, NY, Julie McMahon (husband Dennis) of Bradenton, FL and Dr. Jim Winchester of Atlanta, GA. He is the grandfather of Amy Winchester of Washington, DC, Bethany Winchester of Milford, Ct., Sophie Winchester and Adrian Winchester of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by his brother Robert L. Winchester (wife Judy) of Niskayuna, NY. A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Westminster Towers Chapel in Bradenton, Florida.

Ervin Perez-Perez, 27, Bradenton, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2011. Ervin was born
on June 16, 1984 in Mexico. He worked as a laborer in the aluminum industry in Bradenton. He is survived by his companion of three years, Margarita Lopez of Bradenton, mother, Paula, one brother and one sister all of Mexico. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 6, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at the Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th Street West, Bradenton. Mr. Donald H. Diederich
Donald H. Diederich, 78, Bradenton, passed away on November 2, 2011. Donald was born
on March 31, 1933 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Edwin & Marguerite (Thompson) Diederich. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was retired from the United States Post Office in St. Louis, Missouri. He moved to Bradenton in 1998 coming from St. Louis where he was a member of the Full Gospel Church. Locally he was a member of the Mill Creek Baptist Church in Bradenton. He is survived by his loving wife Joung Hoi Diederich of Bradenton, sister, Margaret Diederich of St. Louis, Missouri, and many extended family members and friends. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 from 10-11 A.M. with funeral services to follow at 11:00 A.M. at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th Street West, Bradenton, Fl. Committal services will follow at the Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Florida with final military honors to be rendered by the U.S. Air Force. John was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy in December of 2003. Donald S. Giles, 60, Bradenton, passed away October 22, 2011. He was born
on July 28, 1951 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Donald & Bonnie (Hahn) Giles. He moved to Bradenton in 1983 and worked as a construction supervisor. Donald was predeceased by his brother David earlier this year, and is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Shawn of Bradenton, four children Justin and Danielle of Bradenton, Miranda (William) Moore of North Lima, Ohio, Dallas of Las Vegas, Nev., sister, Donna of Dayton, Ohio, brother, Joseph of Knoxville, Tenn., and four grandchildren, Darien Dawson, Michael, Emily and Alyssa Brinsky. She is survived by her three children; Jack Mayes, Johnny Ray Mayes, and Angel Mayes all of Bradenton, her father, Jack Parks of Bradenton, three brothers; Carl Parks of Tennessee, Preston Parks of Bradenton, Steven Parks, and one sister, Christina Parks-Murkerson of Bradenton, and five grandchildren. Member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Petersburg. She was retired from SunTrust in St. Petersburg, and was a realtor for several years. She was predeceased by her loving husband Richard Senander in 1998. Survived by her son; Phillip (Karen) Williams of Bradenton, sister, Mary Ellen Hivner of Calabasas, CA, and granddaughter, Tiffany Williams of Bradenton. Visitation will be from 10-11 A.M. Judith L. Chatain, 76, Bradenton, passed away, February 3, 2012. She was born
on March 13, 1935 in New Milford, CT to the late Garwood & Doris (Neal) Devaux. Judith was retired from the Children’s Center in New Milford as a Preschool Teacher with over 30 years of service. She moved to Bradenton in 2002 and was a member of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Henry, a son Peter of Alfred, NY, two daughters; Melissa and her husband Geoffrey Thomas of New Milford, CT, Holly and her husband Albert Irving of Garden City, MO, three sisters; Nancy & Jerry Eidam of Santa Cruz, CA, Deborah Devaux of Kent, CT, Jennifer and Jim Hearn of Aspen, CO, and two grandchildren. Mrs. Linda Van Metre
Linda Van Metre/ Walters, 60, Palmetto FL. died peacefully Jan. 29 2012 at Manatee Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Born August 13, 1951 to Maurice J. and Mary Jane (Haffele) Francis in Hazel Green WI. A 1969 graduate of Warren (IL) High School, and Eastern IL University Charleston she re-located to Manatee County from Rockford Il in 1986 to begin a 13 year association with St. Joseph Catholic School in Bradenton instructing English/Literature at the Jr. High level earning a “ tough as nails” reputation from her students while working to further her credentials with a Masters Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in1990. Beginning in Sept. of 1990 to present she has taught English/ Lit III and IV at Manatee High School referred to by students as the” kick butt grammar guru” who demanded excellence from her students while earning their respect as a great instructor and friend . A member of the ASPCA, she had a lifelong soft heart for abandoned or distressed animals ,currently caring for their four cats. United in marriage to Mike Walters on April 21 2007, she is survived by her husband, stepsons Chris and Tim Walters, Palmetto, brother Jim (Kim) Francis Warren Il, nephew Jacob Francis and niece/ god-daughter Krystal Francis, Warren IL and niece Karla Francis Hazel Green WI. Uncle Lee ( Mary) Francis Dubuque IA, Aunt Jane( Haffele) Bruun, Hazel Green WI. and many cherished cousins in the Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa area along with many close friends scattered throughout the United States and Germany. Rev. John Clawson Bonser
Rev. John Clawson Bonser, 73, Bradenton, died at home on January 29, 2012. John was born
on May 15, 1938 to the late Howard & Nina Bonser. He attended the University of Tennessee and graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1959. He received both a Bachelor of Divinity degree and a Master of Sacred Theology degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He was ordained by the United Lutheran Church in America in 1962, and served three parishes in Pennsylvania. After moving to Bradenton in 1977, he became a Registered Investment Advisor with Raymond, James and Associates and was a Certified Financial Planner. John was an avid photographer and a member of the Island Gallery West for many years. He was an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Holmes Beach, and was involved with All Island Denominations and Inquiring Minds. John is survived by his wife, Susan, his son, Donald, his daughter, Amy (Matt) Valenzisi, his step-daughter, Margretta Goodis, his step-son, William (Alyson) Karow, his brother, Curtis (Jane), and sister-in-law, Catherine Raymond. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Sarah, Robert, Chase, and Graham, other extended family members and many friends. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Holmes Beach. Inurnment will be in the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church memorial garden at. Mr. James "Bob" Beal
James “Bob” Beal, 82, Bradenton, Fl., passed away January 26, 2012. He was born
on April 14, 1929 in Manito, Illinois to the late John & Etta (Murphy) Beal. He was reared in the Manito and Green Valley, IL. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII and was a retired iron worker and building contractor in Il and U.S. Virgin Islands. Bob lived in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands for over 20 years before moving to Bradenton in 1999. He was the last of eleven children, and is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Bonnie of Bradenton, three sons; Richard (Kathy) of Pekin, IL, Keith (Mary) of Green Valley, IL, Kim (Kay) of Concord, AK, three daughters; Vicky (Bill) Ostrom of Hemphill, TX, Cindy (Ed) Baker of Green Valley, IL, Tammy (Rick) Feilner of Bedford, IN, two step-sons; Chris Chiapusio of Charlotte, NC, Scott Chiapusio of Plantation, Fl., thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Mr. John Franklin Roesel, Jr.
John Franklin Roesel, Jr., 80, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away January 2, 2013. He was born
June 3, 1932 in Ocklawaha, FL to the late John F. Sr. & Melissa (Lovett) Roesel.
A Bradenton resident since 1968, he was the founder of Precise Power Corporation in Manatee County, in which he was actively involved until his death. The company was formed to produce and market innovative uninterruptible power systems and electrical motors based on his inventions. John received his Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. John was predeceased by his wife Bettye ‘’Bunny’’ Roesel in January , 2010, and is survived by his five daughters; Robin Brown of Bradenton, Cheryl (Joseph Smith) Roesel of Arlington, VA, Kathy (Tim) Pritchard of Myakka City, Tracy (Art) Schumer of Switzerland, Kimberly Wackenhut of Atlanta, GA, his brother, Charles (Edna Sue) Roesel of Bushnell, FL, his sister, Mary (John) Moeller of Knoxville, TN, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and extended family and friends. Private family services will be held at a later date.
