Mr. Norman H. Brown
Norman H. Brown, 87, of Palmetto, Florida, passed away on October 9, 2013 at the TideWell Hospice House in Palmetto. Norman was born
on October 30, 1925 in Lima, Ohio to the late Orrin and Edith (Harter) Brown.
He served with the United State Navy as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate Third Class during World War II, and was awarded the World War II Victory Ribbon, American Area Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and the Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon.
Norman lived for many years in Hillsborough County where he served and protected the residents of Tampa, and retired from the Tampa Police Department in 1979 at the rank of Major and with 31 years of service. While living in Hillsborough County he was a member of the Tampa Fraternal Order of Police Lodge and a member of the former First Christian Church of Tampa.
He moved to Palmetto, and was a member of the Palmetto Veterans of Foreign Wars, Palmetto American Legion Post.
Norman was predeceased by a sister Dolores Keetler and is survived by his loving wife Nelda (Johns) Brown of Palmetto, Florida, four dear daughters; Nelda and Bob Emmerson of Columbia, South Carolina, Arlene Brown of Seffner, Florida, Denise and Mark Berte’ of Bradenton, Florida, Paula and Michael Cimo of Plant City, Florida, one sister, Margie Harkins of Springfield, Ohio, four precious granddaughters, and two great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
Private family services will be held at a later date at the Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to TideWell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, Florida 34238 in his memory.

Mrs. Alice L. Weaver
Alice L. Weaver, 88, of Bradenton (formerly of Holmes Beach) passed away peacefully in her home on Sept. 27, 2013. Alice was born
on Sept. 7, 1925 in NY, NY, to the late Charles B. and Else (Schmidt) Sherman. Alice was a graduate of the St. Vincent's School of Nursing in New York City. She served with the U.S. Navy during The Korean War as a Registered Nurse and gave up her officer's commission to marry her husband, an enlisted man at the time. Alice moved to Holmes Beach in March of 1960 from Kingston, NY. For the last eight years, she has been a resident of Bradenton. Alice was a 40-year member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church on Holmes Beach and most recently attended Ss. Peter & Paul the Apostles Catholic Church in Bradenton. Alice worked as a Public Health Nurse at Palmetto High School before moving to the Manatee County Health Department. After several years, she left the health department to work for Children's Medical Services in Sarasota where she retired after many years of dedicated service as the Director of Nursing with the responsibility for covering nine counties. Alice was predeceased by her husband Charles Atlas Weaver in November of 1992 and a brother Carl Sherman. She is survived by her loving children: Charles Michael Weaver of Bradenton; Sherman Scott (Susie) Weaver of Summerville, GA; Sara Lisbeth (Sergio) Valdivieso of Bradenton; James Francis (Kayzie) Weaver of Parrish and Timothy Griffin Weaver (Phil Gutis) of New Hope, PA, ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many extended family members and friends. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at St. Bernard Catholic Church on Holmes Beach with committal to follow in the church memorial garden. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in her memory be made either to Maryknoll Lay Missioners, P.O. Dr. Will E. Waters
Dr. Will E. Waters,82, of Bradenton, passed away on Septermber 30,2013. Dr. Waters was born
September 19, 1931 in Smithtown, KY to Lincoln and Mildred Childers Waters. He and Mary Elizabeth Sumler met at Cumberland College in Williamsburg, KY and were married May 30, 1952.
Will is survived by his wife, daughter Marie Bieniek husband Bob and Children Andrew and Shannon of Alachua, FL; son, Alan Waters, wife Beth Moss Waters and Children Matthew and Melanie, of Maylasia; daughter, Sheila Orlovsky and her son Keith of West Palm. Dr. Waters is also survived by his brother Sam Waters, Easley, SC, and sisters Lois Reed, Geraldene Morrison, Louise Tapley, all of Muncie, IN, Carol Griffis of Mt Vernon, KY, and Donna Sonnenberg of Benton Harbor, MI.
Dr. Waters graduated from University of Kentucky with his Bachelors in Agriculture in 1954. Waters was employed as a county agent in Hazard KY until he was drafted into the Korean conflict. He served stateside as an Army medic until 1956. Dr. Waters returned to college and earned his Masters in Agriculture in 1958, from UK, and his Doctoral Degree from the University of Florida in 1960. He was a University of Florida IFAS faculty member for 8 years at the Gulf Coast Research and Education Center in Bradenton, before moving to Apopka to build and serve as director of the a new IFAS research center. In 1970 Dr. Waters returned to Bradenton to serve as the GREC director until he retired in 1998. In 1973, he was commissioned an Honorary Kentucky Colonel by Governor Ford. During his 40 years with the University of Florida Dr. Waters authored hundreds of publications on his horticultural research. During his time as Center director, his Biological Scientist, Terry Howe, assisted him, which allowed him to continue the research he loved.
Dr. Waters received many honors and accolades from the University of Florida, The Vegetable, Fruit and Horticulture Societies and industry leaders recognizing the impact of his leadership in Florida Agriculture for four decades.
Will Waters will truly be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial donations be made to the Baptist Childrens Home in Bradenton.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Shannon Funeral Home Westview Chapel. The Funeral Service will be Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 10:00 am at the Memorial Chapel of First Baptist Church of Bradenton.
Dr. Waters will be laid to rest at Fogartyville Cemetery.
Mrs. Mary Ann Fiedler

Mrs. Nichole "Nickie" Ertel
Nichole “Nickie” Ertel, 69, Bradenton, passed away Sept. 27, 2013. Nickie was born
Oct. 19, 1944 in Ft. Wayne, IN to the late Herbert and Helen (Miller) Kruckeberg.
She worked as a printer and was also the co-owner and manager with her husband Michael of three night clubs in Ft. Wayne retiring in 1992, and moved to Bradenton in January of 1996.
She was predeceased by her husband Michael in June of 2012 and is survived by two step-daughters; Angela of Omaha, NE, Shawn of Denver, CO, sister; Karen (Jan) Van Hoesen of Scotch Plains, NJ, nephew, Erik (Kathy) Van Hoesen of Scotch Plains, NJ, cousin and caregivers, Heidi Harriett of Columbia City, IN and Holly Hall of Wabash, IN and many extended family members and friends.
Private services will be held at a later date at the Skyway Memorial Gardens in Palmetto.
The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to either Bishop Animal Shelter or TideWell Hospice.
Mr. Joseph T. Palazon
Joseph Todd Palazon, AKA Taz by his loved ones, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, born
on March 25, 1965 to Tonya and Joseph Palazon.
Joe was an animated, unique person. You never knew what was going to come from his mouth next. Joe was a hard working man and a comedian; he wouldn't stop until he had you laughing. Speaking of laugh; Joe had this one of a kind contagious chuckle that you couldn't help but smile at. That is one of the many things Joe will be remembered for.
Joe is survived by his very tolerant companion Karen Clark, whom we commend for staying strong for the passed 20 years of her relationship with Joe. His only son Cory Whaley, grandson Gabriel, Karen's daughters Michelle Nolan, and Deborah Slagel, their children; Shelby, Taylor, Elizabeth, Hannah, Zackery and Rebekah. Joe had many friends that loved him very much and they will miss him but none will miss Joe more than his best friend/brother, Erik.
We will all miss you Joe, you will never leave our minds and hearts. WE LOVE YOU!!!!
Mrs. Blanche G. Stanley
Blanche G. Stanley, 93, of Bradenton, FL passed away September 6, 2013. Blanche, one of three daughters, was born
in St. Cloud, Minnesota on December 5, 1919 to the late Wesley and Martha Todd.
Blanche graduated from St. Cloud State Teachers College in (1942) with a B.A. in Music and Social Studies.
She was married to Dean A. Stanley on June 4, 1943 until his death in 1998.
Blanche and family lived in Washington, Iowa from 1957 to 1985 where she taught music in the Washington Jr. High School for 23 years. Blanche and Dean moved to Fort Myers, FL in 1985 and she moved to Bradenton in 2001.
She was survived by her children, Charlotte (Jay) Taylor of Knoxville, TN, Craig (Kathy) Stanley of Bradenton, and Corinne Stanley, of Iowa City, IA, three grandchildren, Ryan (Jess) Taylor, Sarah (Stanley) Stanley, and Alison (Heath) Rogers and three great-grandchildren.
Blanche lived a life trusting in God’s guidance and was always involved with her local church either as teacher, choir director or accompanist. Blanche had many loves including travelling and her music, but most of all she loved her family, friends and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A memorial service will be conducted on October 5th at 10:00 AM in the chapel of the Westminster Manor, 1700 21st Ave. W, Bradenton. Memorial gifts can be sent to Agape Flights, 100 Airport Avenue, Venice, Florida 34285.
Mr. Mason William Place
Mason William Place, 97, died August 31, 2013 in Bradenton Florida. Last year he was predeceased by his wife, Marietta McDevitt Place after 71 happy years of marriage.
Mason was a graduate of Oswego High School and was graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology as a design engineer. He was employed as an engineer at Bausch & Lomb in Rochester, NY, Sealright in Fulton, NY, and finished his working career at Alcan, Oswego, NY in 1978.
Throughout his life Mason was active in the community, first as a 4-H club leader and then with the Southwest Oswego Methodist Church. It was at this church that Mason designed and oversaw the construction of an annex as well as serving as the treasurer of the church.
In WWII, Mason served in the United States Navy on the ship, Taconic.
Mason enjoyed many outdoor activities and downhill skied for most of his life. He also hiked, canoed, and backpacked in the US, Canada, and most of the USA National Parks. International travel was part of Marietta and Mason's passion once they were both retired. They visited countries in Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa. They also drove an RV across the USA and into remote areas of Alaska for months at a time.
Mason had two children, Lyle William Place (wife, Cathy), of Florida, and Judith Kaye Place (husband, Neil Shapiro), of New York; and one grandson, Aaron Place Shapiro, of California.
In accordance with their wishes, a joint memorial service will be held for Mason and Marietta at Southwest Oswego Methodist Church on Saturday, October 5, 2013. The family will receive visitors beginning at 1:00 PM, with a service to follow at 2:00 PM.
