Mrs. Esther Berner

Esther Berner (Memaw), 81, a 50 year resident of Bradenton and Palmetto, passed away on August 28, 2013. She is preceded in death by her husband James Mayo Berner and her daughter Mary Esther Luebcke. Survivors include brothers Wayne Cooper and Raymond Cooper, son Rodger and Daughter-in-Law Collene of Bradenton, 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Visitation from 6-8 P.M. on Friday, September 6, 2013 at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th St. W., Bradenton, Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 7, 2013 in the Cemetery Chapel at Mansion Memorial Park in Ellenton.

Mrs. Carolyn Neuhoff Chalfant

Carolyn Neuhoff Chalfant, 68, of Bradenton passed away August 15, 2013. Born in Roanoke, VA to the late Lorenz and Catherine Neuhoff. She was a homemaker, a member of Ss. Peter & Paul the Apostles Catholic Church, as well as a Charter Member of the Junior League of Manatee County. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 43 years; Peter; and two brothers; Jim and Bob Neuhoff. She is survived by two daughters, Cari (Paul) Atwell of Bellingham WA and Catherine (Brent) Greer of Bradenton; 10 grandchildren; two brothers Larry (Barbara) Neuhoff of Atlanta GA and Bill Neuhoff of Roanoke VA; her sister Kay Blankemeyer of Blacksburg VA; many nieces & nephews and other relatives. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at Braden River Care Center for their loving care. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date and time to be announced at Ss. Peter and Paul the Apostles Catholic Church. A Burial will take place in Virginia. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to the M.S. Society in her memory. Arrangements by Shannon Funeral Home Westview Chapel, Bradenton.

Mr. Darrell E. Chapin

Darrell E. Chapin, 104, Bradenton, passed away Aug. 25, 2013. Darrell was born icon on July 11, 1909 in Corning, NY to the late Hurbert and Grace L. (Mayo) Chapin. He was a retired machine designer with Corning, Inc. with 42 years of service. Darrell was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and Gideon's International in Corning. He moved to Bradenton in 1972, and was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Bradenton. Darrell was predeceased by his wife Wilhelmina in April of 2006 and is survived by his daughter, Janice (James) Behrenberg of Pittsburgh, PA, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, Aug. 30, 2013 in the Auditorium at Freedom Village. The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to either Gideon's International or Trinity United Methodist Church in his memory.

Master Oren Uriel Mackin

Little cherub baby, Oren Uriel Mackin passed away on August 20th 2013 on his mothers birthday and in a way it's such an honor. He was 8 months 20 days old. Oren left behind his father Brian Mackin, mother Amber Heller and his brother Silas Mackin. He also said goodbye to Grandfather Walter Heller, grandmother Nancy Heller, uncles Jason and Chaz Heller, grandmother Donna Mackin, grandfather Todd Sweezy, aunts Alicia and Michelle Mackin and a large extended family.

He will always and forever be our little cherub baby. He was the most wonderful and handsome little boy. . Uriel his middle name is an arch angel and is always depicted as a cherub. Uriel means the light or face of God. His sweet and beautiful face to me was just that, bright full of love and wonder. He was also known as the angel of knowledge and before he was born, Amber called him "my wise little owl". Oren is the name of a saint. In Hebrew it meant ash tree. He loved his trees.

"I took him on walks with his tree friends that he loved so much. I love him with every cell and atom of my being. So in my heart he will always be my little angel cherub baby, I'll see as an owl in a tree on a full moons night. One day we shall all be reunited in a heavenly garden."

A Memorial Service will be held Sun. August 25th @ 5:30pm at Siesta Key Beach Fl.

Mrs. Anne W. Fitch

Anne W. Fitch, 88, of Bradenton, formally of Winchester Mass, passed away on August 19, 2013. Anne had fond memories of Wolfeboro NH and summering on Lake Winnipesaukee. She was an avid bridge player at Freedom Village. Anne is survived by her daughters, Susan (Samuel) Chapin of Bradenton Fl, Sandra (Wayne) Cotton of Keene NH, sister, Elizabeth Powell of Worthington OH, four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Anne was predeceased by her husband Nathan A. Fitch and three brothers. Private family services will be held. .

Mr. Harvey Scott Albritton

Harvey Scott Albritton, 54, Palmetto, passed away August 17, 2013. Scott was born icon on August 22, 1958 in Bradenton to Harvey Clark and Beverly (Mierendorf) Albritton. He was a life long resident of Manatee County and worked in the irrigation and landscaping industry, and was of the Baptist faith. Scott was predeceased by his father, and two siblings; John Stanley and Tami Christine Albritton. He is survived by his mother and step-father, Beverly and Lawrence Pierce of Riverview, FL, brother; Jeremy (Aretha) Albritton of Crawfordville, FL and many extended family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. on Friday, August 23, 2013 at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th St. W., Bradenton. Graveside services will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the Gillette Cemetery on Ellenton-Gillette Road in Ellenton.

Mr. Donald James "Jim" Hunsader

Donald James "Jim" Hunsader, 85, died on Aug. 17, 2013 at home, surrounded by his family.

Jim was born icon in 1928 in Alaska, WI into a dairy farming family. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, and in 1957 he married Constance Mary Derus at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manitowoc. In 1967 he and two of his brothers, the late Robert and Paul Hunsader, moved their families to Bradenton and founded what is now Hunsader Farms.

Jim was a quiet man who dedicated his life to farming and family. He retired from full-time farming in 1990, but since that time has enjoyed helping his wife and children with the annual Hunsader Farms Pumpkin Festival. Prior to each event, he served as scarecrow "engineer"; during the event, he could be seen riding around the grounds in "Papa's Cart". On August 4th he celebrated his 85th birthday with his children and grandchildren. Jim's hobby was helping out at the farm market by picking strawberries and vegetables and doing handyman jobs. He enjoyed spending part of each summer in the northeast Georgia Mountains. Jim was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul the Apostles Catholic Church, and was co-owner of Harllee Packing.

Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Connie, their five children; Cathy (the late Mark) Raye, Michael (Tricia) Hunsader, Linda (Tim) Hunsader, Mary Jo (Jim) Baar, and David (Kim) Hunsader all of Bradenton, and four of his nine siblings; Dona (Clarence) Shimon and Lenore (Chuck) Christel both of Manitowoc, WI, Jean Lewis of Elkhorn, WI, and Paul (Janice) Hunsader of Bradenton. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; Chris (Theresa) Raye of Gainesville, FL, Justin Raye of Minneapolis, MN, Shelby Raye of Orlando, FL, Jared Hunsader of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Zach (Kayla) Hunsader of Hendersonville, NC, Johnny Hunsader of Bradenton, Tyler Hunsader of Boone, NC, Alyssa Hunsader of Bradenton, Amanda, Matthew and Joey Baar of Bradenton, Rachel, Alex and Austin Hunsader of Bradenton. Jim was predeceased by his parents; Henry and Barbara Hunsader, brothers; Mark and Robert Hunsader, and sisters; Mabel Tienor, Dorothy Zik, and Ruth Holsen.

Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. on Friday, August 23, 2013 at Shannon Funeral Home Westview Chapel, 5610 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Ss. Peter & Paul the Apostles Catholic Church, 2850 75th St. W., Bradenton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Foundation for Dreams, www.foundationfordreams.org, 16110 Dream Oaks Place, Bradenton, FL. 34212. or TideWell Hospice.

Ms. Sierra Lyn Proulx

Sierra Lyn Proulx, 8, of Bradenton, Fl, formerly of N. Scituate, RI. passed away peacefully on August 4, 2013 due to injuries received in a car accident. Sierra was born icon on May 27, 2005 in Warwick, and has been a resident of FL for the last couple of months. She is survived by her loving mother, Melanie Proulx and her fiancé Kevin Moore of Bradenton, beloved Grandparents; Roger Proulx and his partner Judy Petruccillo of Warwick, RI, Linda and Gary Corbett of Highland Beach, FL, and caring Great-grandmother, Natalie MacGown of Cranston, RI, and many extended family members and friends. Private family services were held in Florida.

Mr. Joe W. "Bud" Hammock

Joe W. “BUD” Hammock, 79, Bradenton, passed away on August 7, 2013. Bud was born icon on January 1, 1934 to the late Joe and Willie Mae (Spearman) Hammock in Bradenton, FL. Bud served his country faithfully during the Korean Conflict by serving with the United States Navy where he received several decorations and citations. Following his military service he served with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff for 23 years. After his retirement from MCSO he served for four years with the Holmes Beach Police Department. Bud is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Lisa (Williams) Hammock of Bradenton, two children, David and Deborah Hammock, three grandsons, and many extended family members and friends. A celebration of Bud’s life will be held at a later date and time to be announced. The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to either the Easter Seals or American Cancer Society in his memory. Arrangements by Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, Bradenton.

Mr. Paul Frederick "Fred" Corbin

Paul Frederick “FRED” Corbin, 73, Bradenton, passed away, August 4, 2013. Fred was born icon December 2, 1939 in Deerfield, NH to the late Paul F. and Martha Corbin. He has been a resident of Manatee County for over 50 years. Fred served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Verizon Phone and was the owner of Florida Quality Trees in Bradenton for over 30 years. Fred was a long time member of the Palmetto Moose Lodge and taught clogging. Fred is survived by his wife of 15 years, Linda (Schappacher), son, Larry P. (Lisa) Corbin of Miami, FL, daughter, Terri J. (Early) Peters of Bradenton, step-daughter, Kaysi (Jason) Leach of St. Petersburg, FL, half-brother, Mark (Donna) Tibbitt of Deerfield, NH, four sisters; Sara (Tomme) Foster of Sheffield, AL, Carol (Greg) Smith of Centennial, CO, Cathy (Thornton) Chilton of VA, Cindy ( Eric) Thomson of Victoria B.C., Canada, 7 grandchildren and many extended family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-7 P.M. on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th St. W., Bradenton, FL with services to follow at 7 P.M., and final honors by the U.S. Air Force. Memorials may be made to TideWell Hospice in his memory.

Mr. Jerry Tice

Jerry Tice, 63, Bradenton, passed away Jan. 6, 2014. Jerry was born icon August 21, 1950 in Chesterfield, S.C. to the late William Raymond and Elma (Turner) Tice.

He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era as an Army Ranger and Helicopter Gunner with the 101st Airborne. He moved to Bradenton over 30 years ago coming from Florence, SC.

Jerry was the President and owner of Professional Brick Pavers in Bradenton, member of the American Legion Kirby Stewart Post # 24, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1223 in Bradenton, and was an avid and accomplished pool player winning many trophy's and awards.

He is predeceased by a brother, William Edward Tice, Sr., nephew, William Edward Tice, Jr., both of Georgetown, SC, and is survived by his loving wife and companion of 14 years Terri (Pangborn) of Bradenton, his two four legged boys; Jagger and Gizmo, four sons; David G., Douglas G. Rydberg both of North Port, FL, Damon G. Rydberg of Lakeland, FL, Dallas G. Rydberg of Bradenton, daughter, Christina L. Eleason of North Port, FL, brother, Charles (Linda) Lassiter of Charleston, SC, sister, Helen Huggins of Florence, SC, sister-in-law, Nancy Elizabeth Tice of Georgetown, SC., seven grandchildren, several nephews, two nieces, and many extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 3-4 P.M. on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th St. W., Bradenton with services to follow at 4 P.M.

Sally Bray

Sally Bray, 83, of Bradenton Florida, died December 31, 2013.

Sally was born icon in Syracuse N.Y., moving with her husband to Rochester, N.Y. to raise their family, and later settled to the N. Ft. Myers/ Bradenton area during retirement.

Predeceased by husband Clarence, parents Leon and Irene Orcutt, three sisters and five brothers. Survived by daughter, Christine (Steven) Spitz of Rochester NY, and son, Richard (Julie) Bray of Olean NY; grandchildren Jeffrey (Carrie) Spitz, Kerri (Aaron) Levine both of Mendon NY, Brendan (Julia) Spitz of Buffalo NY, Richard Bray, Jr. of Vestal NY and Kirsta Bray of Penn Yan NY; 3 great-grandchildren, Mari, Mackenzie and Cooper all of Mendon; three brothers and one sister.

A memorial service will be held at Westminster Shores, 1700 3rd Ave. W., Bradenton, 2:00 pm on Friday January 10, 2014.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 9900 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. N. St. Petersburg, FL 33716 or American Diabetes Association, 1511 N. Westshore Blvd., Suite 980, Tampa, FL 33607.

Dr. Clay Wilson, DVM

Dr. Clay Wilson, DVM, 57, Bradenton, passed away Dec. 20, 2013. Clay was born icon on July 17, 1957 in Johannesburg, South Africa to the late Erwin Robin and Thelma Marie (Scott) Wilson. Clay moved to Mexico with his family at the age of two until returning to the Republic of South Africa eleven years later.

He graduated in 1979 from the University of Florida with a degree in Zoology and furthered his education by graduating in 1987 from the Onderstepoort Veterinary Hospital at the University of Pretoria in Pretoria, South Africa. Clay moved to Manatee County in the early 1990’s and was the former owner of Beach Veterinary Clinic in Bradenton for 17 years, where he was considered a specialist in Orthopedics and small animal and exotics medicine.

He moved to Botswana to operate and volunteer as the Primary Wildlife Veterinarian for the Department of Wildlife and National Parks in Kasane for 5 Years. He also served as a Veternarian and Honorary Game Warden for the Chobe National Park in Botswana, South Africa until 2011 when he returned to the States. While in South Africa he had the honor of doing a documentary of the National Park with Jack Hanna of the Animal Planet. He also was well known in Botswana for providing once a year a free clinic day to provide Rabies vaccination for the local dog owners at no charge to help control and prevent Rabies in the area.

Following his return to the States he continued his work of saving the local wildlife in Kenya and established a Mobile Veterinary Unit with the Kenya Wildlife Services. He is also a worldwide wildlife consultant through his non-profit organization of International Wildlife Rescue. He just recently this summer published his book “BushVet in South Africa” based on his experiences.

Dr. Wilson is survived by two brothers; Dr. Graham Wilson M.D. of Henderson, NV, and Wayne Wilson of Tucson, AZ and many extended family members and friends.

A celebration of Dr. Wilson’s life will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 at Shannon Funeral Home Westview Chapel, 5610 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton. The family request no flowers.
