Mr. Kenneth R. Sanders

Kenneth R. Sanders, 51 of Bradenton, Florida, passed away September 29, 2014 at the TideWell Hospice House in Bradenton.

Kenneth was born icon on November 28, 1962 in Bradenton, Florida to the late Edgar C. and Joyce (Truesdell) Sanders. He was a lifelong resident of Manatee County, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Kenneth worked locally as contractor and tradesman in all lines of work.

He is survived by his one brother and his wife; Timothy and Scarlett Sanders of Chipley, Florida, two sisters and their husbands; Christy and Michael Willard of Naples, Florida, Victoria and Jody Beckford of Youngsville, Louisiana, and many extended family members, friends and acquaintances.

The family will hold a memorial luncheon and celebration of Kenneth’s life on Friday, October 3, 2014 at 11:30 AM at the Mar Vista Restaurant, 760 Broadway Street, North Longboat Key, Florida. A memorial boat procession will leave the dock at 12:30.

Sgt. James Edward Scothorn, MCSO-Retired

Sgt. James Edward Scothorn, MCSO-Retired, 74, Ellenton, passed away Sept. 30, 2014. He was born icon on July 14, 1940 in Mt. Clemons, Michigan to the late James and Eunice (Bastendorff) Scothorn.

James served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era as a Lance Corporal. He moved to Manatee County in 1985 and worked as a Deputy Sheriff at the Port with the Manatee County Sheriff's Office for 20 years. His various memberships included the FOP Lodge in Bradenton, Sierra Club, and was a Honorary Member of the Timucuan Indian Tribe in Ocala.

James was predeceased by his loving wife of 49 ½ years, Roberta J. in September of 2013 and is survived by his son, David (Barbara) Scothorn of Hudsonville, MI, two daughters; Dawn (Scott) Earl of Bradenton, Nancy (Chad) Guinn of Los Angeles, CA, sister, Mary Jane (Patrick) Bossenbery of St. Clair Shores, MI, seven granddaughters; Nicole (Michael) Wilson of Palmetto, Florida, Erin (Nick) Poedhl of Kentwood, Michigan, Emily Scothorn of Charlotte, North Carolina, Rachel Wilson of Palmetto, Florida, Paige Guinn of Frisco, Colorado, Elizabeth (Joel) Bradt of Spring Arbor, Michigan, Kaitlyn Wilson of Palmetto, and two great-grandsons; Tyler Edward and Eli Ridgewell.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 P.M. on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th Street West, Bradenton, Florida. A celebration of James’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, October 3, 2014 in the chapel of Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th Street West, Bradenton, Florida, with final military honors by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard. Interment will be private at the Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida.

The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to TideWell Hospice Inc. in his memory.

Mr. Robert Severson Hickman, Jr.

Robert Severson Hickman, Jr., 67, Parrish, passed away Sept. 20, 2014.

Robert was born icon on Jan. 10, 1947 in Woodbury, NJ to Robert S. Sr. & Gloria (Palmarini) Hickman.

He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietname War, and moved to Manatee County in 1981 coming from Ft. Lauderdale. Robert was retired from the Bradenton Herald where he worked in the Press Room with 20 years of service.

Robert was predeceased by his father, Robert S. Sr., and is survived by his loving wife, Peggy of Bradenton, two step-sons; Dan (Gerry) Sklenicka, of Irvine, TX, Brent Croll of Bradenton, three step-daughters; Lori (Michael) Weitz, Rachel Croll both of Bradenton, Amanda (David) Medeiros of Naples, mother, Gloria Naslund of Ft. Lauderdale, two brothers; Bruce (Judy) Hickman and Mark (Kandy) Hickman both of Ft. Lauderdale, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 11AM-1 P.M. on Monday, Sept. 29, 2014 at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th St. W., Bradenton. Further services and inurnment will be private at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota.

The family request that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project in his memory.

Mr. Asbill "Randy" Henry Orander

Asbill "Randy" Henry Orander, 95, of the University Village Retirement in Tampa, formerly of Bradenton, passed away September 22, 2014.

Randy was born icon on January 20, 1919 in Saluda County, South Carolina to the late William S. and Hortense (Asbill) Orander.

He served his country faithfully during World War II by serving with the United States Navy. Following his military service he finshed his education by receving a Masters Degree from Columbia University.

He worked as a Division Account Manager for South Central Bell Telephone and AT&T. He moved to Florida in 1980 coming from Memphis, TN.

Randy was predeceased by his loving wife Georgette in 2010, brother Ansel Orander and a sister, Hortense Hartley. He is survived by his caring daughter, Suzanne Cavaness of Tampa, dear granddaughter, Shelley R. Cavaness and precious great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Cavaness both of Paris, France.

A private family committal service with military honors was held on Friday, September 26, 2014 at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell where he was laid to rest with his beloved wife.

The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3277 Fruitville Rd, Sarasota, FL 34237 in his memory.

Mrs. Barbara Jean Giltner

Barbara Jean Giltner, 67 of Parrish, passed away September 22, 2014 at the Riviera Palms Rehabilitation Center in Palmetto.

Barbara was born icon on May 27, 1947 in Hinsdale, Illinois to the late John and Mary (Kaletka) Grandys. She moved to Florida in 1998 coming from Downers Grove, Illinois.

She worked as an occupational counselor for Jobs, Etc. for many years. She was also a past member of the Elks Lodge, and was an artist working as a clay sculptor and in paints as her mediums.

Barbara is survived by her two loving children; Thomas Giltner of Melrose Park, Illinois, Cynthia and her husband Brian Wingate of Palmetto, two dear sisters; Linda Taylor and Shirley Grandys both of Bradenton, seven precious grandchildren, two darling great-grandchildren and many extended family members and friends.

Private family services will be held at a later date. The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory.

Mrs. Irene Payne Carlton

Irene Payne Carlton, 83, Myakka City, passed away Sept. 19, 2014.

Irene was born icon Sept. 23, 1930 in Ona, FL. to the late John and Irene (Jones) Payne. She has been a lifelong resident of Manatee County.

She was a retired bookkeeper working for many years at the Cloverdale Dairy, and the Myakka City Elementary School. Irene was the oldest living member at the time of her passing of the Myakka City United Methodist Church, where she was a member for over 65 years. She was an active member of the church, serving as the Church Treasurer and Sunday School Teacher. She also was instrumental in helping to raise funds for the fellowship hall, and to help cook meals for the church and lots of people.

Irene was predeceased by her loving husband, Brian L. Carlton in 1997, a brother, Ronald Payne, and a sister Fannie Wilcox. She is survived by her three dear sons and their wives; Walter and Susan of Gainesville, FL, Daniel and Bonnie of Myakka City, Leonard and Nancy of Bradenton, a brother and his wife; J.W. and Marilyn Payne of Bradenton, sister, Gloria O'Neil of Lakeland, eight grandchildren, ten grandchildren and many extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 from 10-11 at the Myakka City United Methodist Church, 10525 Lebanon Street, Myakka City, with a celebration of her life to follow at 11 A.M. Interment will take place at Old Miakka Cemetery in Sarasota.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the General Fund of the Myakka City United Methodist Church in her memory.

Mrs. Sharon P. Harris

Sharon Phillips Harris, 75, of Bradenton, passed away in her home on September 18, 2014 surrounded by her children.

The family will receive friends and family Monday September 22, 2014 from 10:30 to 11:30am at Bethany Baptist Church 22604 State Road 64 East Myakka City FL.

Funeral Services and Burial to follow at 11:30am at Bethany Baptist Church and Cemetery. Chaplain Todd Morgan officiating.

Sharon is survived by her son Steve Harris, and two daughters Cathy Pettyjohn and Sandy Negrete, as well as four grandchildren Joe, Felicia, Samantha and Sophia and one great-granddaughter Kyleigh. Also survived by brothers; Claude, Floyd, and Jerry Phillips, and sister Joyce Proveaux.

She is preceded in death by her husband William "Del" Harris and parents Harry and Bidie Phillips and brother Glen Phillips.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Tidewell Hospice for their loving care of our loved one.
