Mrs. Alice E. Lanford
Alice E. Lanford, 67, Bradenton, passed away Jan. 28, 2015.
Alice was born
April 18, 1947 in Sarasota to the late Earl G. and Brenda (Sudene) Reed.
She was a lifelong resident of Manatee/Sarasota County. Graduated from USF with her bachelors and master’s degree. Alice worked as a Registered Nurse at Manatee Memorial Hospital working in various departments before retiring. After her retirement from Manatee Memorial she went to work at the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Tampa retiring from there as an Administrator. She was also a member of the Life Covenant Sanctuary in Bradenton.
She is survived by her loving husband Mason, son, Kelly both of Bradenton, daughter, Kimberly McMurray of Powder Springs, GA, brother, Robert Allen Reed of Orange Lake, FL, sister, Dorothy Heaslip of Charlotte, NC, four grandchildren; Mandi McMurray, Brittany and Allison Lanford, Sean McMurray and many extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 11AM-12 Noon on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015 with a Celebration of Alice’s life to follow at 12 Noon at Life Covenant Sanctuary, 5428 39th St. E., Bradenton.
The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 12502 N. Pine Dr., Tampa, FL 33612 in her memory.
John L. Travis Jr.
John L. Travis Jr, 63, of Bradenton, passed away on January 21st 2015.
He is survived by his loving wife Barbara, two Sons; John Travis Smith (Lyn), Michael Brandt (Jillian), one step-son Justin Fallon (Liza), four sisters; Kathi Cafiero (Kenneth), Lisa Singer(Robert), Melissa Osborne (Lewis), and Michelle Travis (Cheryll) and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday January 23rd, 2015 from 10am -12pm with Funeral Services commencing at 12:00pm at Shannon Funeral Home Westview Chapel, 5610 Manatee Ave West Bradenton FL.
Mrs. Gladys S. Risk
Gladys South Risk, 99, of Bradenton, passed away on January 22, 2015 at her home in Westminster Towers.
She was born
in Toledo Ohio, the daughter of Henry Randolph and Mary Boniface South, formally of South Toms River NJ.
Gladys was the wife of the late James Campbell. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She attended the Toms River NJ school systems and earned herself an art scholarship. Gladys worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Broward in Toms River, till she married.
Gladys had a love for music and a beautiful singing voice; she enjoyed singing throughout her lifetime. She had many talents of which were put to use through singing solos in the Pine Beach Chapel in NJ; leading Scottish reel dances at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark NJ, with her husband James. Additionally, she did artistic paintings and enjoyed sewing costumes for the Pine Beach Volunteer Fire Company for their benefit shows through the Ladies Auxiliary. Gladys was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary since 1949.
Surviving her is her daughter, Gladys Risk, niece, Mary Martha Sutton, nephews; John Risk and Robert Risk, three grandchildren; George Platt of Venice FL, April Nickell and James Platt of Bradenton FL, six great-grandchildren; Jonathan Platt of Sarasota FL, Jessica and Mason Nickell, James and Aurorabella Platt and Dillan Richardson all of Bradenton Fl.
Memorial donations may be made in Gladys’ honor to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd. Sarasota FL to the attention of the Philanthropy Department.
Mr. Gilbert (Gib) J. Smethurst
Gilbert (Gib) James Smethurst II (71) - beloved father, grandfather, brother , uncle and friend passed away on Monday January 19, 2015. He was born
in Bluffton, Indiana on August 5 , 1943 and moved to Manatee County in 1964 where he has since called home.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gilbert James Smethurst and Mary Helen (Krill) Smethurst. He is survived by his daughters Teri Rader of Bradenton Florida and Traci Sadowski of Buford Georgia; his grandchildren Derik Sadowski of Buford Georgia and Katie Rader of Bradenton Florida; his sisters Delores (Dee) and Charlie Uptgraft of Bluffton Indiana , Sue and Joel Duvall of Prescott Arizona and Annie and JC Hunter of Bradenton Florida; his nephews and their families David and Kris Uptgraft of Bluffton Indiana, Mike and Cindy Uptgraft of Bluffton Indiana, Bryce and Monica Duvall of Chandler Arizona and Adam and Colleen Duvall of Chandler Arizona; extended family and friends.
Gib served in the US Navy . He retired after a long career with Florida Power and Light. Gib was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was an active member of the American Legion, Amvet and Moose service organizations.
A visitation will be held Friday January 23rd at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th Street West Bradenton Florida from 6-8 pm.
A private service will be held at a later date on Lake Okeechobee Floria. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to either Tidewell Hospice or Riviera Palms Rehabilitation Center Palmetto Florida who both provided amazing care in his last days.
Mrs. Ann Henriett (Armbruster) Stobaugh
Ann Henriett (Armbruster) Stobaugh, 76, Bradenton, passed away at 4 pm on Jan. 19, 2015.
Ann was born
on Sept. 7, 1938 in Bonne Terre, MO to the late James and Clara (Wirag) Armbruster. Ann was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bismark, MO on the 19th day of March 1939. Ann lived in Flat River, MO until she went off to college at the University of Colorado in Boulder. She arrived in Bradenton in 1961, moving to Florida from Oklahoma City, OK.
Ann was a past member of the Manatee Medical Society Women’s Auxiliary, Board member of the Westcoast Symphony, and Manatee Players, where she participated in productions such as the Sound of Music and My Fair Lady. She and Dr. Stobaugh were members of the Bradenton Yacht Club since the early 60’s, attended Hope Lutheran and Redeemer Lutheran Churches in Bradenton and most recently St. Armand’s Key Lutheran Church in Sarasota. Ann was passionate about her family and friends, tennis, pottery, traveling, the arts and all the outdoor water activities that Florida has to offer.
Ann was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Schlueter, and is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, Dr. Robert E. Stobaugh, of Bradenton; three sons: Robert Edward (Christine Shirley) Stobaugh III of Bradenton, Richard Earl Stobaugh of Ft. Myers, Russell Evan (Lisa Hudson) Stobaugh of Bradenton; one daughter: Robbin Elizabeth (Joseph J.) Slama of Ft. Lauderdale; and ten grandchildren.
A Celebration of Ann’s life will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015 at Hope Lutheran Church, 4635 26th Street West, Bradenton. Following the service the family will receive friends until 4 P.M. A private family graveside service will take place at Fogartyville Cemetery in Bradenton.
The Stobaugh family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society of Manatee County or Southeastern Guide Dogs in her memory.
She will be hugely missed, our worlds were better because she helped to shape it…We look forward to the day when we reunited in Heaven ?
Mrs. Dolores F. Busard
Dolores F. Busard; "Laurie" died in Blake Hospital, Bradenton, FL on January 19, 2015 after prolonged illness.
She was born
on July 25, 1923 in Grand Haven, Michigan. She went to Muskegon Junior College, Graduated Michigan State University 1945. After teaching one year, Laurie married Thomas R. Busard of Muskegon, Michigan in November of 1946. They lived in Chicago, IL where she taught elementary school, until her new husband got a degree from Northwestern University in Business. They moved to Muskegon, Michigan and later to Dowagiac, Michigan until 1955. Her husband began University of Michigan Medical School so the family moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, and she resumed teaching elementary school until her husband completed and received his medical degree. Then they moved to Muskegon, Michigan, lived in Norton Shores while he practiced as a medical doctor there for 17 years.
In 1973 the family moved to Bradenton, Florida, where her husband continued to practice medicine until retirement in 1988, continuing their lives in Bradenton until her death in January 2015. While in Muskegon Laurie worked to earn her Masters Degree through the University of Michigan and developed 'Great Books' courses for young school children. After moving to Florida she became President of the Manatee County Medical Auxiliary and later held State officer positions in the Florida Medical Association Auxiliary.
She was an active member and served as Board Members and President of the local (national) PEO Sorority, also served as a State Representative for PEO. Her PEO membership activities beginning in 1948 in Muskegon, Michigan and continued throughout her life in Florida until her death. She was also an early participant in the Guardian Ad Litem legal program in Florida.
Laurie birthed five children, her first child, a baby girl died within days of her birth, a son predeceased her Thomas A. Busard, who died at age 25 in Bradenton, in 1975 in a tragic accident. She had three daughters, Gillian, who lives in Longboat Key, Patti, who lives in Sarasota, and Bobbi (Roberta) who lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She is survived by her remaining daughters, husband, granddaughters Whitney Britton and Katie Thompson and nephews Andrew and Kurt, both residing in Michigan.
A short memorial service will be held in Bradenton, Florida at the Shannon Funeral Home Westview Chapel at 5610 Manatee Avenue West, Saturday, January 24st at 2:00 PM with a visitation the hour prior from 1-2p.m. (no services will be held in Michigan). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Roser Memorial Church, 511 Pine Avenue, Anna Maria, Florida 34126.
ROSE, ZENAIDA DOMENECH
April 13, 1926-January 13, 2015
Mrs. Zenaida Ida Rose was born
in Guantanamo, Cuba. In 1945 she left her family and many friends in Cuba to establish a new life in the US with Worth her husband of 59 yrs. When MSgt. Rose left to serve in Korea, she took her two children back to Cuba to await the war's end and her husband's return. She then returned to the US to learn English and become a proud naturalized citizen. She was a kind, loving and gentle woman, a devoted wife and mother. She loved playing cards and visiting with the family, especially the grandchildren. Her wonderful sense of humor and ready, warm laugh welcomed all those in her presence. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Worth, and siblings Teresa Guerra, Mariano Luis Domenech, Elba Guerra, Enrique and Carlos Domenech. She is survived by her son, Richard, and daughter, Teresa McCormick; Grandchildren Maria Hall, Melinda Cumbaa, Julie Wermuth, Kimberley Welsh, Aaron and Alice McCormick; great-grandchildren Angelina, Aidan, Lila, Beatrice, Ethan, Jack, Kaleab and Anthony; many nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be greatly missed by all. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradenton on January 31,2015 at 1:00. In lieu of flower send donations to church or charity of choice .
Mr. Arthur Malcolm Boehle
Arthur Malcolm Boehle, 91, Bradenton, passed away Jan. 15, 2015. He was born
April 4, 1923 in New York, NY. Arthur served with the U.S. Navy during WWII.
He moved to Bradenton in 1969 coming from New Jersey where he was a member of the V.F.W. Locally he worked as a mill wright for Tropicana for 22 years.
Arthur was predeceased by his wife, Maria Emily Boehle in 1997, and two siblings; Clayton and Shirley Boehle. Survived by his three sons and their wives; Thomas and Maryanne Boehle of Valrico, FL, Kenneth A. and Peggy Boehle of Palmetto, FL, James R. and Gail Boehle of Bradenton, FL, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A joint graveside service for Arthur and Maria will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, FL.
