Grace D. Cassano, 92, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Friday, June 10, 2005, in Charlotte Harbor, Fla.

Mrs. Cassano moved to the Punta Gorda area from New York in 2001.

She is survived by one son, Don (Margaret) Cassano of Punta Gorda; two daughters, Lucretia (John) Lewin of Boca Raton, Fla., and Loretta (John) McLaughlin of New York; two sisters, Josephine Scali and Anna Pelose, both of New York; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Jonathan, Jina, Douglas, David, Ian, Jason, Alyssa and Edward; and 12 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Kevyn, Joe, Jake, Brittani, Brian, Andrew, Ryan, Leigh, John, Caroline and Emma. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank.

A memorial service will be held in New York, followed by the Burial at Saint Charles Cemetery on Long Island, N.Y.

Kays-Ponger Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Punta Gorda Chapel is in charge of local arrangements.

Lois Cooper

Lois (Wesley) Cooper, 84, of Albuquerque, N.M., and formerly of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Saturday, May 14, 2005.

She was born icon June 27, 1920, in Philadelphia, Pa.

Lois moved from Pennsylvania to Port Charlotte in 1978. She moved to Albuquerque in July 2004.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, William Cooper of Albuquerque; son, Stephen (Alice) Cooper of Albuquerque; grandson, Sean (Sophia) Cooper of Worcester, Mass.; granddaughter, Erin Cooper of Folly Beach, S.C.; and great-grandson, William Cooper of Worcester. She was preceded in death by her son, David Cooper; and brother, Charles Wesley.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2005, at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 24515 Rampart Blvd., Port Charlotte, Fla.

Arrangements are by Riverside Funeral Home of Albuquerque.

Kenneth D. Edwards

Kenneth D. Edwards, 58, of Lake Wales, Fla., and formerly of Arcadia, Fla., and Punta Gorda, Fla., died Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla.

He was born icon Oct. 17, 1946, in Arcadia.

Mr. Edwards grew up in Punta Gorda and was a 1965 graduate of Charlotte High School.

Mr. Edwards was a veteran who served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1966 to 1968.

He worked as a warehouse manager for 25 years, retiring in 2005 from Creative Floors in Vero Beach, Fla. He and his family moved to Lake Wales 12 years ago.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sylvia Edwards of Lake Wales; sons, David (Lori) Edwards of Sebring, Fla., Brian (Luz) Edwards of Leesburg, Fla., and Steve Graves of Gainesville, Fla; mother, Bertie Edwards of Punta Gorda; grandsons, Tanner and Tyler Edwards of Sebring; sister, Gloria Quick; and brothers, James Edwards and Mark Edwards, all of Punta Gorda.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2005, at the Church of God of Prophecy, 662 Cooper St., Punta Gorda, with the Rev. Roger Byrd officiating. Burial will be at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.mem.com.

Willard Gandy

Willard Gandy, 78, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Thursday, June 9, 2005, in Punta Gorda.

Mr. Gandy moved from Perry, Fla., as a young boy to the Punta Gorda area. He was a police officer with the city of Punta Gorda and the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office for 18 years.

Mr. Gandy is survived by his son, Mike Gandy of Punta Gorda; daughter, Kathy Gandy, both of Punta Gorda; one brother, George Gandy of Leesburg, Fla.; one sister, Virginia Hamilton of Punta Gorda; one grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be from 10 a.m. until a funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at the Punta Gorda chapel of Kays-Ponger Funeral Homes and Cremation Services. Burial will be at Indian Springs Cemetery in Punta Gorda.

Beryl Hall

Beryl Hall, 88, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Friday, June 10, 2005, at Peace River Regional Medical Center, Port Charlotte. Arrangements are by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, Cremation Services and Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Punta Gorda, Fla.

Edward C. Blissick Sr.

Edward C. Blissick Sr., 81, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Thursday, June 9, 2005.

He was born icon June 19, 1923, in Chester, Pa.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Blissick was a retired laboratory analyst for DuPont in Wilmington, Del. He moved to the Port Charlotte area in 1982 from Newark, Del. He He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Englewood, Fla., Englewood Elks and Community Presbyterian Church in Englewood.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Elizabeth Stout of Maryland; sons, Edward Blissick Jr. of Florida, George of Florida and James of Delaware; brother, Frank of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at Community Presbyterian Church.

Memorial donations may be made to Community Presbyterian Church, Building Fund, 405 S. McCall Road, Englewood, FL 34223-3628.

Leondras L. Jones

Leondras Leslie Jones, 86, of Englewood, Sarasota County, Fla., died Friday, June 10, 2005, at his residence.

He was born icon Oct. 24, 1918, in Elkhurst, W.Va., to the late Webster and Wavie (Nichols) Jones.

Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was an operations manager for Union Carbide Institute in West Virginia and retired in 1981 after 34 years. He was a member of the Grand Lodge 153 AF&AM and the Beni Kedem Shriners both in Charleston, W.Va. He and his wife moved to Englewood from Charleston, W.Va.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, JoAnne Jones of Englewood; two sons, Bradley S. Jones of Englewood, and C. Todd Jones of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; two sisters, Bobbie Kruk of Crosslanes, W.Va., and Virginia Preston of Richmond, Va.; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Jones to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.

Englewood Community Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been selected to handle arrangements.

William P. Ruppert Sr.

William P. Ruppert Sr., 87, of Englewood, Fla., died Sunday, June 5, 2005 in Englewood. Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Thotant Mozzer Jr.

Thotant Mozzer Jr., 87, of North Port, Fla., passed away Saturday, June 11, 2005, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla. Arrangements are by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, Cremation Services and Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Punta Gorda, Fla.

Ellen K. Latimer

EIlen Katheleene (Jones) Latimer, 94, of Lake Placid, Fla., died Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at her home.

She was born icon Jan. 23, 1911, in Sharkey County, Miss.

Mrs. Latimer moved to the Arcadia, Fla., area 47 years ago from Gulfport, Miss. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her grandson and granddaughter-in-law, John A. (Debra) Latimer III; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Lisa (Rick) Scott; granddaughter, Patricia Boyd; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

A private memorial service will be held at Floral Hills Cemetery in Hanesboro, Miss.

Condolences may be sent to the Latimer Family at P.O. Box 443, Lake Placid, FL 33862.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Nu-Hope of Highlands County, 6414 U.S. 27 South, Sebring, FL 33876.

Arrangements are entrusted to Scott Funeral Home, Lake Placid.

David C. Goldberg

David C. Goldberg, 83, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Saturday, April 23, 2005, in Tampa, Fla.

He was born icon June 27, 1921, in Dallas, Texas.

Mr. Goldberg was an honors graduate of Antioch College and of the Executive Management Program at the University of Illinois. He retired in 1981 after a long career in metallurgical engineering and marketing at Westinghouse Aviation Gas Turbine Division and the Astronuclear Laboratory. His career included work at Battelle Memorial Institute, Saunders Tool and Die and Hamilton Watch. Mr. Goldberg was a member of Temple Shalom of Port Charlotte, a former member and a vice chairman of the Charlotte County Planning and Zoning Board, and he served as an active volunteer in the Guardian Ad Litem program. He also served as a juvenile arbitrator for Charlotte County. In between his active volunteer schedule he found time to engage in his favorite pastimes which were golf, travel and bridge.

Mr. Goldberg is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara Lee Goldberg of Port Charlotte; a daughter, Carol St. Onge of Arlington, Texas; two sons, Marc Goldberg of Westboro, Mass., and Robert Goldberg of Singer Island, Fla.; five grandchildren, Lauren, Leslie, Charles, Tiffany and David; and five great-grandchildren, Bailey, Christian, Miles, Elise and Kiara.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2005, at Temple Shalom, 23190 Utica Ave., Port Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 992 Tamiami Trail C-2, Port Charlotte, FL 33953.

Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home and Crematory, Port Charlotte Chapel.

Irene E. Pierce, 81, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Thursday, April 28, 2005, at Peace River Regional Medical Center in Port Charlotte. Arrangements are by James A. McKee Funeral Homes, North Port, Fla.

Jane Pollock

Betty Warrick

Betty Warrick, 75, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda. Arrangements are by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Punta Gorda.

Larry N. Yeatman

Larry Neal Yeatman, 69, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2005. Arrangements are by Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services, Punta Gorda Chapel.

Ivy T. Gallagher

Ivy "Tom" Gallagher, 75, of Englewood, Fla., passed away Friday, April 29, 2005, at Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans Nursing Home in Port Charlotte, Fla.

He was born icon March 5, 1930, in Muleshoe, Texas.

Mr. Gallagher enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1946 during the last months of World War II. He also served during the Korean War and the Vietname War. He was a jet mechanic and kept the planes flying for the United States troops. He served his country for 22 years. After retiring from the military in 1968, Tom worked at General Telephone (now Verizon) at various locations, including in Sarasota, Fla., for 16 years, two years in the Venice, Fla., office and two years in Englewood. He retired after 20 years. Tom and his wife, Shirleen, did a lot of traveling around the world.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Shirleen J. Gallagher; his adoring daughter, Debora K. Urban of Sarasota; son-in-law, George Urban; and brothers, Clyde and Mac of Texas. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Caroline Emma Johns and Thomas Leroy Gallagher; two brothers, Roy and Ed; and two sisters, Velma and Marie.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2005, at Englewood United Methodist Church, 700 E. Dearborn St., Englewood.

Memorial contributions may be made to National Parkinson Foundation Inc., 1501 N.W. 9 Ave. Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136-1494.

Arrangements are by Neptune Society of St. Petersburg-Palm Harbor, Fla.

David A. Akins

David Anthony Akins, 39, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Thursday, April 28, 2005, at his home.

He was born icon Feb. 16, 1966, to the Rev. David Akins Jr. and Lula Akins.

Mr. Akins was a member of House of Refuge Church of God. He was a DeSoto High School graduate of 1985. He was self-employed as a landscaper and a farmer.

He is survived by his parents; daughter, Safari Akins; brother, Louis (Gwen) Rechard of Miami, Fla.; sister, Myrna (Joe) Youngblood of Arcadia; brother-in-law, Tommy Hillard of Arcadia; maternal grandmother, Ethel Jones of Sparta, Ga.; four nephews, Rodney Roberts of Tampa, Fla., Donte Hillard, Brandon Hillard and Derrick Hillard, all of Arcadia; four nieces, LaQuanda Rechard of St. Petersburg, Fla., LaKeesha Hillard and Moneisha Williams, both of Arcadia, and Ebony Hawkins of Miami; two uncles, Governor Akins of Plainfield, N.J., and Harry (Teresa) Akins Sr. of Arcadia; nine aunts, Annie Pearl Jones of Sparta, Margaret (Joe) Cooper of Orlando, Fla., Addie Mae Brodie and Ellen (Herbert) Motley, both of Arcadia, Annie (Otis) Clayton of Umatilla, Fla., Betty Betts, Willie Kay Betts and Marchelle Jones, all of Plainfield, and Mary Clark of Eustis, Fla.; special companion, Georgiaetta Greene; best buddies, Kenneth Wicks, Nathan Williams, Leroy White, Alvin Lovette, Eddie Evans, Harry Motley Sr., Henry Weatherspoon Jr. and Michael Williams; and a large host of cousins, other relatives, friends and church members. He was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Hillard; and brother, Paul Akins.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2005, at Hickson Funeral Home in Arcadia. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005, at House of God Church, 201 Alabama Ave., Arcadia, with Bishop Roy Freeman, pastor of House of Refuge Church of God, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Arcadia.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hickson Funeral Home, Arcadia.

Sam Colletti

Sam Colletti, 86, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, at Charlotte Harbor Healthcare in Port Charlotte.

He was born icon Feb. 5, 1919, in Italy.

Sam served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He moved to Florida from Chicago, Ill., where he was in the scrap metal business for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy "Dottie" Colletti of Port Charlotte; a daughter; a son; and many relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at the Port Charlotte chapel of Roberson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, at the funeral home, with the Rev. J. Ralph Burton Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.

Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel.
