Paul H. Lewey Jr.

Ret. U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Paul H. Lewey Jr., 52, of Arcadia, Fla., died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005.

He was born icon Sept. 5, 1953, in Greensboro, N.C., to Paul and Emma (Mitchell) Lewey.

Mr. Lewey retired from the U.S. Marine Corps as staff sergeant and he also was a retired officer from the Department of Corrections. Mr. Lewey moved to the Arcadia area 20 years ago from Hawaii. His wife was Janice A. Lewey.

He is survived by his sons, Paul III of Arcadia and Noah (Katy) of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; daughters, Wendy Lewey of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Janet (Brian) Klotzbier of Port St. Lucie; a sister, Mary (Rusty) Pope of Greensboro; and grandchildren, Jasmine and Brian Klotzbier Jr. and Aidan and Hannah Lewey of Port St. Lucie.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, at First Baptist Church of Nocatee, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lewey Family Fund First Baptist Church of Nocatee, 4610 S.W. U.S. 17, Arcadia, FL 34266.

Arrangements are by Gallaher American Family Funeral and Cremation Service, Fort Myers, Fla.

Mary P. Burgess

Mary P. Burgess, 80, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005.

She was born icon Nov. 25, 1925, in Pell City, Ala., to Charlie R. and Dovie Ann (Lovell) Polk.

Mary was a certified nurses assistant for most of her working life in Warren County, Ohio. She moved to Port Charlotte in 1986 from Warren County, and her family was the center of her life.

She is survived by her children, Ladena (Wayne) Rhoden of Port Charlotte, Roxena (Lonnie) Sharp of Springboro, Ohio, Greg Burgess of Venice, Fla., and Larry (Tina) of Murphy, N.C.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, with two on the way; a brother, Lawton Polk of Pell City; and two sisters-in-law, Edna Polk of Pell City and Ocie Polk of Pensacola, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morgan C. Burgess.

A visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, at Kays-Ponger Funeral Home of Port Charlotte, with a graveside service to follow at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens in Auburndale, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Kidney Foundation, 1040 Woodcock Road, Ste 119, Orlando, FL 32803.

Arrangements are by Kays-Ponger Funeral Home of Port Charlotte.

Virginia Martin

Virginia Martin, 87, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care in Venice, Fla. Arrangements are by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, Cremation Services and Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Punta Gorda.

James E. McQueen

James E. McQueen, 77, of Arcadia, Fla., died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005.

He was born icon Jan. 26, 1928, in Flint, Mich.

Mr. McQueen served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953. Before retiring, he was the owner of the National Soft Water Company in Lapeer, Mich. He moved to the Arcadia area in 1999 from Lapeer. He was a member of the American Legion Post 16 in Lapeer, the Eagles in Charlotte Harbor, Fla., the Moose Lodge 1693, the Elks Lodge 2763 and the Charlotte County Music Club. He was an avid country music fan and enjoyed golfing.

He is survived by his children, Sally Stuart of Arcadia; Diane Cain of Punta Gorda, Fla., James E. McQueen Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Dayna Thompson of Nashville, Tenn., Matthew McQueen and Michael Abbott, both of Lapeer; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy McQueen, in May of 1999.

A visitation was held from noon until the funeral service at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, at Kays-Ponger Funeral Home, 635 E. Marion Ave., Punta Gorda. Inurnment will take place in the spring of 2006, at the Stiles Cemetery in Lapeer.

Kays-Ponger Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Punta Gorda, are in charge of the local arrangements.

Kenneth A. Piche

Kenneth Allen "Kenny" Piche, 42, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005.

He was born icon March 30, 1963, in Detroit, Mich.

Kenny graduated from Kimball High School in Royal Oak, Mich. He served in the U.S. Air Force 82nd Airborne. He was successful in the construction business and moved with his family to Florida in 2001. Kenny was a caring, kind and devoted father and loving husband. Kenny enjoyed fishing, golf and spending time with family and friends, especially with "his girls" whom he cherished.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 12 years, Anne; daughters, Nikole Janet and Megan Louise; father, Robert J. and Nancy; brothers, Mike (Lisa) Miller-Piche, Kevin and Thomas Piche; sisters, Michele (Bob) Tekip, Theresa Bosworth; the Sundberg Family; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joanna (Milos) Piche.

A gathering of friends will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, with a service in celebration of Kenny's life to follow at 7 p.m. at the Punta Gorda chapel of Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services.

Wilma M. Davis, 92, of Englewood (Sarasota County), Fla., died Monday, Nov. 14, 2005. Lemon Bay Funeral Homes, Englewood Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Paul S. Jones

Paul Stanley Jones, 98, of Englewood (Sarasota County), Fla., died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005. Arrangements are by Lemon Bay Funeral Homes, Englewood Chapel.

Arthur W. Carpenter

Arthur Walter Carpenter, 73, of North Port, Fla., died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Fla.

He was born icon Aug. 21, 1932, in Hinsdale, N.H., to Susie and Walter Carpenter.

Mr. Carpenter served in the U.S. Army as a corpsman during the Korean War. He worked at the Northfield Inn in Massachusetts as a cook. In 1979, Mr. Carpenter purchased a restaurant and operated it with his wife, Ruth, for 16 years. After selling the restaurant, he and his wife moved to North Port. Mr. Carpenter was the assistant treasurer for North Port United Church of Christ. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also worked part time as a security guard at Holiday Park where he greeted everyone with a smile and his good humor.

Mr. Carpenter is survived by his wife, Ruth Carpenter, of North Port; two daughters, Beth Devroy of Boston, Mass., and Lisa Carpenter of Tampa, Fla.; two sons, Walter Carpenter of Tampa and John Carpenter of North Port; one brother, Paul Carpenter of Northfield, Mass.; one sister, Madeline Barnes of Orange, Mass.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Midge Kerylow and Elsie Bordner.

Memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at North Port United Church of Christ.

Donations may be made to North Port Church of Christ, 3450 S. Biscayne, North Port, FL 34287.

Arrangements are by Abbey Affordable Cremation and Funeral Services, Largo, Fla.

Florika Oldja, 71, of North Port, Fla., died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at Peace River Regional Medical Center in Port Charlotte, Fla. Arrangements are by James A. McKee Funeral Homes, North Port.

Carol L. Spotts

Carol (Lamb) Spotts, 73, of North Port, Fla., and formerly of Hatfield Township, Pa., died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at Grand View Hospital in West Rockhill Township, Pa. Arrangements are by Kligge Funeral Home Inc., Hatfield, Pa.

Betty J. Stanko

Betty J. Stanko, 77, of Waterford, Mich., and North Port, Fla., died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005.

She was born icon Aug. 21, 1928, in Detroit, Mich.

Mrs. Stanko was a beloved wife, loving mother, and dearest grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Stan; her children, Lee Stanko, Pamela Allen (Jim Braidwood), Steven (Karen) Stanko and Susan (Robert) Surovec; grandchildren, Ryan, Kelly, Danielle, Kyle, Nick, Lauren, Lukasz, Jacob and Caleb; great-grandchildren, Brooklynn and Blake; sisters, Ruth (Bob), Pat (George) and Jan (Jack); sister-in-law, Delores; several nieces and nephews.

Barbara Y. Koenig

Barbara Y. Koenig, 81, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, at Peace River Regional Medical Center in Port Charlotte.

She was born icon Feb. 16, 1924, in Long Beach, Calif., to Francis and Wilma Kidd Howell.

Barbara married Clarence Koenig and they lived in Schiller Park, Ill. Being a Californian at heart, she and her husband moved to Port Charlotte in 1976, considering it to be the "other West Coast."

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Clarence Koenig of Port Charlotte; four sons, Michael Koenig of North Port, Fla., Gerald (Debbie) Koenig of River Grove, Ill., Kenneth (Karen) Koenig of Columbia, Ky., and Donald (Violet) Koenig of Des Plaines, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Brian (Shea) Koenig of Columbia, Laura Koenig of Des Plaines, Cathy Piedlow of Port Charlotte, Dianne Caponera of Fort Myers, Fla., Marc Piedlow of Chicago, Ill., David Carter of North Port and Lydia of Chicago; great-grandchildren, Anthony, Miles, Dana, Jonathan, Michael, Linda, Michael Trent, Nicholas, Jacob, Farrah and Vivien; and her niece, Lois Nickols of Redding, Calif. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Piedlow.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, at Cuneo-Columbian Funeral Home, 10300 W. Grand Ave., Franklin Park, Ill. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glen Oak Cemetery in Westchester, Ill.

Arrangements are by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, Cremation Services and Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Punta Gorda.

Noella Dubois

Noella Dubois, 83, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, at Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda, Fla. Arrangements are by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, Cremation Services and Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Punta Gorda.

Rocco R. Patrone Sr.

Rocco R. Patrone Sr., 90, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005.

He was born icon Aug. 16, 1915, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Peter and Concetta Patrone.

Mr. Patrone served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for the Youngstown Sheet and Tube for 35 years, operated Patrones Turkey Farm from 1958 until 1968, and was the owner and operator of Patrones Market in East Fairfield, Ohio, with his wife, Dorothy, until 1980, when he fully retired. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and was of the Episcopal faith.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy (Hake) Patrone; daughters, Sandra (Charles) Holsinger and Diane Kannal, both of Port Charlotte and Gina (Daniel) Brown of New Waterford; sons, Rocco (Mona) Jr. of Monroe City, Ind., and Ralph (Paula) of New Waterford, Ohio; his caretaker, Maryann Leddy; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of Mr. Patrone's life will be at noon Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, at his daughter, Sandra Holsinger's residence.

The family suggests memorial donations to Mr. Patrone's charity of choice, The Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund, Tampa Bay Chapter, 5959 Central Ave. #202, St. Petersburg, FL 33710.

Jeannette Field-Streeter

Jeannette (Bettcher) Field-Streeter, 89, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, in Punta Gorda.

She was born icon Aug. 24, 1916.

She was a graduate of Arms Academy and North Adams Teachers' College. She taught in the Greenfield school system and other area districts. As the wife of Frederick D. Field, she was a resident of Shelburne Falls, Mass. After his death, she married Wendell E. Streeter and lived in Bernardston, Mass., during the summers, and in Punta Gorda the rest of the year. She was a seasonal resident of Florida since 1982. She was an active and well-respected member of each community she lived in. She especially enjoyed traveling.

She is survived by a sister, Marie E. Bettcher Waste of Keene, N.H.; three children, Frederick Donald Field of Littleton, Mass., Caroline Field Roosa of Punta Gorda and Alton, N.H., and Diane Field Scott of Easton, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be graveside services at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, at the Arms Cemetery in Shelburne Falls, with the Rev. David Neil officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the donor's charity of choice.

Johnson Funeral Home, Shelburne Falls, is in charge of arrangements.

David C. West

David C. West, 76, of Englewood, Fla., died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, in Englewood.

He was born icon March 11, 1929, in Ann Arbor, Mich., to Clifford and Edith (Grant) West.

He served in the U.S. Army. He moved to the Englewood area in 1998 from Elkhart, Ind. He was a professional registered forester, a graduate of the University of Michigan and a member of the University of Michigan Alumni Association.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte J. West of Englewood; and a daughter, Mary West of Brooklyn Center, Minn. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elinor Forsythe.

Memorial services will be held in Michigan at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Natural Resources and Environment, University of Michigan, 430 E. University, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-1115.

Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood Chapel, has been selected to handle the arrangements.

JoAnn Bentley

JoAnn Bentley, 67, of Cape Coral, Fla., and formerly of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, in Cape Coral.

She was born icon April 18, 1938, in Clovis, N.M.

JoAnn was a homemaker and mother of three. She moved from Oklahoma to Punta Gorda in 1995, and recently moved from Punta Gorda to Cape Coral.

She is survived by her children; daughter, Della Booth of Cape Coral; and sons, Richard Bentley Jr. of Fort Gibson, Okla., and Paul Bentley of Roxboro, N.C.; three brothers, Jay and Bobby Ham, both of Artesia, N.M., and Frank Ham of Lubbock, Texas; and two granddaughters, Ashley Cook and Elizabeth Ann Bentley.

Funeral services and Burial will be held in Arkansas.

Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home, Punta Gorda Chapel.
