Bertha P. Hall, 82, of Englewood, Fla. (Charlotte County), died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006.

She was born icon June 30, 1924, in Braceville Township, Ohio.

Mrs. Hall came to the Englewood area in 1977 from Warren, Ohio.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Marshall; son, Dale, of Niles, Ohio; brother, Ralph Phelps, of California; and two grandchildren, Kirk Reed Hall and Kate Beth Hall.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, at Lemon Bay Funeral Homes, Englewood Chapel. Interment will be at a later date in Ohio.

Memorial donations may be made to TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238-5188.

Arrangements are by Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood.

Gary L. Snyder

Gary L. Snyder, 58, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Saturday, June 17, 2006, at his home.

He was born icon Sept. 27, 1947, in Kokomo, Ind., to Emil and Merle (Cooper) Snyder.

Gary married Teresa (Weeks) Reinke on June 3, 1967 in Baltimore, Md, and they were divorced in 1974.

Snyder served in the U.S. Army, A Company, 1st AVN. BN., 1st Infantry Division (The Big Red One) in Vietnam in 1968. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Port Charlotte, FL.

He is survived his three sons, Gary L. (Pepper) Snyder Jr. of Kokomo, Brooke A. (Kara) Snyder of Noblesville, Ind., and Brent J. Snyder of Frankfort, Ind.; nine grandchildren, Alicia, Chandelle, Ashley, Emily, Ally and Gary Luke Snyder of Kokomo, Grace and Isabelle Snyder of Noblesville, and Samantha and Brianna Snyder of Frankfort; one brother, Jack (Patty) Snyder of Port Charlotte; two sisters, Donna Beane and Deloris "Short" Jessup; his ex-wife, Teresa (Weeks) Reinke; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Gary in death were his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

No services are planned. Memorials can be made to TideWell Hospice, 1144 Veronica St., Port Charlotte, Florida, 33952.

Alan J. Andelin

Alan John Andelin, 83, of Englewood, Fla., passed away Thursday, June 15, 2006.

He was born icon May 2, 1923, in Vassa, Finland.

He moved to the area in 1987 from Mentor, Ohio.

Mr. Andelin served in the Navy during World War II.

Mr. Andelin retired from Ohio Bell Telephone Company. He was a member of the Sunnybrook Alliance Church in Englewood.

He is survived his wife, Joyce; stepsons, Chris Preusker and James Preusker, both of Englewood; and sister, Lillian Risimiki of Ohio.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2006, at Sunnybrook Alliance Church in Englewood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sunnybrook Alliance Church, 6410 Sunnybrook Blvd., Englewood, FL 34224.

Ruth M. Henry

Ruth M. Henry, 97, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Thursday, April 20, 2006.

She was born icon Sept. 1, 1908, in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Ruth moved to Port Charlotte from Miami, Fla., in 2005, and attended St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

Ruth will be greatly missed by her son, Jon (Marguerite) Henry of Port Charlotte; grandchildren, Gayla (Adam) Sobiech, Yvonne (Rick) Henry, both of North Fort Myers, Fla., Jon (Ann) Henry of Delaware, Edward (Wendy) Henry of Miami, Karen Caswell and David Henry, both of Bradenton, Fla.; 10 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward F. Henry; and son, James F. Henry.

A graveside service in celebration of Ruth's life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Miami.

The family requests memorial donations be made to American Cancer Society, 992 Tamiami Trail C2, Port Charlotte, FL 33953.

Arrangements are by the Cremation Center of Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services, Port Charlotte.

William Parker

William "Bill" Parker, 73, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Thursday, April 20, 2006. Arrangements are with National Cremation Society, Port Charlotte.

John M. Anderson Sr.

John Michael Anderson Sr., 41, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Saturday, April 15, 2006. He was born icon Jan. 24, 1965, in Arcadia.

John was an orange grove tractor driver. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. John was of the Church of God faith.

He is survived by his wife, Shari Ann Anderson; son, John Michael Anderson II; and daughter, Shari Deeann Anderson, all of Arcadia.

Memorial services will be at 9 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2006, at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia. Burial will be at Joshua Creek Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia.

Grace L. Munter

1924 ~ 2006

The family would like to thank all of her friends for the years of love, laughter and for the concern expressed in her time of greatest need.

Grace L. Munter, 81, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Sunday, April 23, 2006, at her winter home in Port Charlotte, surrounded by her husband, son and daughter.

She was born icon Aug. 11, 1924, in Philadelphia, Pa.

Grace grew up in Bortendale, Pa., and graduated from Media High School in 1942. She met the man who won her heart, William G. "Bill" Munter, in 1943. Grace served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She attended nursing school in Philadelphia. Grace and her husband pursued their dream to build a log home on their vacation property in Potter County, Pa., where they permanently moved in 1982. Grace was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 192 in Coudersport, Pa., and VFW Post 7810 in Austin, Pa. She was also a member of Grange 1254 in Odin, Pa., and Women of the Moose Lodge 2121 in Port Charlotte. Her life was rich with friends all over the country, particularly in Pennsylvania and Florida. Grace and Bill enjoyed 62 years of marriage and said, "62 years is not a record, but it's not a bad average."

She is survived by her husband, Bill ; son, William S. Munter; daughter, Grace Dorety; granddaughter, Denise (Mark) Vickers; sister, Betty Bower; niece, Diane Baxter and her children and their families.

A memorial service celebrating Grace's life will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2006, at Minshall-Shropshire Funeral Home in Media, Pa., followed by the Burial at Edgewood Memorial Park in Glen Mills, Pa.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rana Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.

Arrangements are by Minshall-Shropshire Funeral Home, Media.

Mildred M. Marsh

Mildred Mae Marsh, 88, of Mount Airy, Md., and formerly of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, Md.

She was born icon March 19, 1918, in Pomeroy, Ohio, and was the daughter of the late Lenora Eynon Smith and the late Frank Smith.

Mrs. Marsh and her husband, John, moved from Steubenville, Ohio, to Florida in 1964. She was a travel agent with Charlotte Travel in Port Charlotte before retirement. Mrs. Marsh was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Steubenville. She was a member of Port Charlotte Presbyterian Church. In Maryland, she attended Taylorsville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Marsh enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting and reading.

She is survived by daughter, Carol (David) Blackburn of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, John (Kim) of Haymarket, Va., Elaine Rachal of Houston, Texas, and April Blackburn of Baltimore, Md.; three great-grandchildren, Jacquie Rachal of Houston, Austin and Carson Blackburn of Haymarket; son-in-law, John (Sarah Ann) Jenkins of Port Charlotte; two nephews, George Smith and Marlin Evans; and one niece, Marsha Frecker. Mrs. Marsh was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Marsh, who died in 1969; daughter, Kathryn Jenkins; and two sisters, Ada Evans and Lucille Potts.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2006, at Taylorsville United Methodist Church, 4356 Ridge Road, Mount Airy.

Edwin Acevedo

Edwin Acevedo, 59, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Monday, April 24, 2006.

He was born icon July 26, 1946, in Puerto Rico.

Mr. Acevedo worked as a chef at the Whitehall Club in New York, N.Y., for 21 years. He moved to Palm Beach, Fla., in 1991, and worked as a maintenance supervisor for 14 years at the La Bonnie Vie Condos. Mr. Acevedo and his family moved to Punta Gorda in March 2006. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Palm Beach and San Antonio Catholic Church in Port Charlotte, Fla.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Eva Acevedo of Punta Gorda; daughters, Wanda (Eli) Ruiz of Scranton, Pa., Malanie (John) Rivera of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Elizandra (Peter) Militrano of New York, N.Y.; son, Edwin J. (Betty) Acevedo of Punta Gorda; 20 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brother, Alberto Acevedo and sister, Julia Cavan, both of Puerto Rico.

A visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2006, at Kays-Ponger Funeral Home, 635 E. Marion Ave., Punta Gorda. The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2006, at San Antonio Catholic Church, 24445 Rampart Blvd., Port Charlotte. Burial will follow at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens.

Kays-Ponger Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Punta Gorda Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.

Rosa C. Castellon

Rosa C. Castellon, 98, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.

She was born icon Sept. 4, 1907, in Leon, Nicaragua.

Mrs. Castellon moved from Leon to Port Charlotte in 1988, where she was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Dora Arostegui of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Rosario Gonzalez of Panama City, Panama; a son, Dr. Mauricio Castellon of Port Charlotte; 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Napoleon, who died in 1994; and her son, Orlando, who died in 2001.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2006, at Roberson Funeral Home, 215 Mary St., Punta Gorda, Fla. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2006, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte.

Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home, Punta Gorda Chapel.

Thomas B. Courtney

Thomas Berry Courtney, 84, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at Charlotte Regional Medical Center.

He was born icon Jan. 21, 1922, in Fairmont, W.Va., to Ralph Arlington and Barbara (Berry) Courtney.

Tom attended Kentucky military Institute of Frankfort, Ky., and Venice, Fla., then he graduated from West Virginia University in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater of Operations and was attached to the G2 section of Supreme Headquarters, Allied Expeditionary Forces. In June of 1948 he married Patricia Nimblett of Fairmont, W.Va. They raised two sons. Tom was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, Elks Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 57 years, Pat; sons, Berry (Jacquie) of Reno, Nev., and Bill (Stephanie) of Houston, Texas; and two grandchildren. Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Arlington Courtney Jr.

A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2006, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda.

Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Relief Fund, 211 W. Charlotte Ave., Punta Gorda, FL 33950.

Arrangements are by Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services, Punta Gorda.

Harold E. Croley

Harold E. Croley, 81, of Port Charlotte, Fla., and formerly of Dayton, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2006.

He was born icon July 19, 1924, in Nevisdale, Ky., to Tye and Judy (Smith) Croley.

Harold served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked as a quality control engineer at Dayton Walther before retiring to Port Charlotte. Harold was a member of First Baptist Church and the Brookville Lodge 596 of Ohio and a 32 second degree Mason. He was an avid flyer, golfer and belonged to the Hole in One Club.

Harold will be greatly missed by his wife of 62 years, Edna; daughters, Betty Appleton of Sarasota and Anita Blair and Susan (Gary) Rice, both of Dayton; son, Harold (Gloria) Croley Jr., of Laura, Ohio; sister, Paula Moran of Port Charlotte; seven grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Oneida Hamby.

The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, April 27, 2006, at the Punta Gorda chapel of Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services. A celebration of Harold's life will be at 11 a.m., Friday, April 28, 2006 at Punta Gorda chapel of Larry Taylor Funeral with the Rev. James Kibelbek officiating, followed by the Burial at Charlotte Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations maybe made to First Baptist Church of Port Charlotte, 20035 Quesada Ave., Port Charlotte, FL 33952.

Miriam Gilberto, 76, of Deep Creek, Fla., passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2006. Arrangements are by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Punta Gorda, Fla.

Hugo Giuliano

Hugo Giuliano, 99, of Harbour Heights, Fla., passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla.

He was born icon Sept. 9, 1906, in New York, N.Y., to Giovanni and Marianna Maiani Giuliano.

Mr. Giuliano was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was the owner of Laconia Art and Gift Shop in Bronx, N.Y. Mr. Giuliano moved from Yorktown Heights, N.Y., to Florida in 1973.

He is survived by his son, John (Camille) Giuliano of Harbor Heights; four grandchildren, John Joseph (Danielle) Giuliano of Harbor Heights, Christopher (Rebecca) Giuliano of Divide, Colo., Marisa (U.S. Marine Corps. Captain Dan Byrd) of Pollocksville, N.C., and Anthony Giuliano of Harbor Heights; five great-grandchildren, John Joseph Jr., Megan, Nicholas, Dustin and Layna; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Florence Mazzerello Giuliano, on March 24, 1978.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2006, at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, 5200 Indian Springs Cemetery Road, Punta Gorda, Fla. Entombment will be at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, N.Y.
