Corinne Knapp Parris, 92, of Port Charlotte, Fla., and formerly of South Salem, N.Y., died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004.

She was born icon March 2, 1912, in Malone, N.Y.

She was a resident of Port Charlotte for the past 36 years. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and the Council of Catholic Women.

She is survived by her children, Cynthia Wright of Port Charlotte, Catherine McKay of Tampa, Fla., and Charles H. Knapp of Ridgefield, Conn.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marion Pogany of Sebring, Fla.

Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 21505 Augusta Ave., Port Charlotte.

Arrangements are by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, Punta Gorda, Fla.

Frank R. Umbrino

Frank R. Umbrino, 52, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital in Port Charlotte. Arrangements are by James A. McKee Funeral Homes, North Port, Fla.

Charlotte E. Moran

Charlotte Elaine Moran, 80, of Rotonda West, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004. Lemon Bay Funeral Homes, Englewood Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Harald Gumbart

Harald Gumbart, 50, of Punta Gorda, Fla. passed away Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004.

He was born icon Jan. 21, 1954, in Mainz, Germany.

Harald came to the United States in the early 1960's.

He is survived by and will be sadly missed by his wife of 29 years, Pamela; his parents, Jakob and Hertha (Tron) Gumbart of Grant, Fla.; his daughter, Sandra (James) Yawn of Chesapeake, Va., and their children, Jessica, Tyler, Austin, Laura and Colby; father-in-law, James Altman of Punta Gorda; family pet, Roscoe; brother-in-law, Craig Altman of Wake Forest, N.C., and Trent Altman of Port Charlotte; a nephew, Jason Altman of Texas; two nieces, Brandy Altman of Williamsburg, N.C., and Cheyenne Altman of Richmond, Va.; and several relatives from Germany.

A memorial service is planned for 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at Gilchrist Park in Punta Gorda.

Jerry K. Lasley

Jerry Kingsley Lasley, 72, of Punta Gorda, Fla., formerly of East Norwalk, Conn. passed away Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004 at his home

He was born icon Aug. 11, 1932 in New Haven, Conn., to Ross Art and Harriet Mae (Kingsley) Lasley.

Jerry was raised in Pelham, N.Y., and Flemington, N.J. He attended Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., and graduated with a degree in economics from Brown University in Providence, R.I. Jerry served in the U.S. Army during Korea. After his service he returned to marry Joan Ward of Darien, Conn., on June 16, 1956.

Jerry's career started with General Electric's Business Training Course in the area of financial management. He held positions with Winchester Arms, Perkin Elmer Corp., Corporate Controller of National Starch & Chemical and lastly Corporate Controller of Amerace Corp.

In 1984, he opened and operated his own consulting business called Business & Tax Services of Norwalk. Those 11 years were the most rewarding in helping small business increase profitability, maintain tax compliance and plan for future growth until retirement in 1995.

After retirement, he and his wife set out to realize a long time dream when they moved aboard the 48-foot motor yacht named the Lady Blue and cruised throughout the waters of the eastern and midwestern parts of the U.S., Canada and the Bahamas for more then 26,000 miles. He was a member of the Norwalk Seaport Association in Connecticut and served as president; Maritime Center of Norwalk as treasurer; former member of Milford Yacht Club and Shore and Country Club. In Florida he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Emerald Pointe Condominium Association, serving as treasurer for six years; life-long boater and member of Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club and served on the Fleet Activities Committee and the Marina and Grounds Committee.

He us survived by his wife of 48 years, Joan; son, Daniel Graham (Dr. Laura Kwaan) Lasley of Westport, Conn.; daughter, Barbara Lasley (John T.) Reid of Lynnfield, Mass.; four grandchildren, Benjamin Chung and Jacqueline Gim Yeu Lasley, and Jerry Thomas and Brian Davis Reid; brothers, John Ross Lasley of Princeton, N.J., and Robert Art Lasley of Brick, N.J.; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Blythe, and his parents.

A celebration of Jerry's life will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at the Emerald Pointe Clubhouse 25188 East Marion Ave., Punta Gorda.

Harry H. Cornelison

U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Harry Hielman Cornelison, , 86, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Friday, Sept. 10, 2004.

He was born icon July 21, 1918, in Williamsport, Pa., to Ralph and Emelia Willig Cornelison.

Chief Cornelison was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He moved from Maryland to Punta Gorda in 1974. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Elk's Lodge No. 2606 in Punta Gorda.

He is survived by his son, James P. Cornelison of Baltimore, Md.; grandson, Matthew A. Cornelison of Waldorn, Md.; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary.

Entombment will be at Charlotte Memorial Gardens in Punta Gorda.

Memorial service will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Parkville, Md.

Arrangements are under the direction of Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Punta Gorda.

Glenn L. Halpain

Glenn Leonard Halpain, 69, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital, Port Charlotte.

He was born icon April 22, 1935, in Vernon, Texas.

Glenn was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He moved from Sarasota, Fla., to Port Charlotte 35 years ago. He was the retired owner and operator of Glenn's Pest Control of Port Charlotte. He was a member of the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church of Punta Gorda.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Oberia Halpain of Port Charlotte; two daughters, Betty Martin of Crofton, Ky., and Phyllis (Johnny) Boyd of Hopkinsville, Ky.; a son, Michael (Sheiry) Halpain of Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Linda Edrington of Princeton, Ky.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Nell Halpain; and his maternal grandparents who helped raise him, S.M. & Pearlee Kenney.

Visitation will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Charlotte Chapel.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2004, the funeral home with Rev. Dennis Postell and Rev. James R. Davis will officiating. military honors will be by the U.S. Marine Corps.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Charlotte Chapel.

Carolyn R. Hansen

Carolyn R. Hansen, 77, of The Villages of Lady Lake, Fla., formerly of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, in Leesburg, Fla.

She was born icon May 7, 1927, in Randolph, Mass.

Carolyn worked as a secretary and receptionist for the Doodle-Loom Craft Manufacturing Co. and retired to this area from Wilmington, Mass. in 1988, following the death of her first husband, John L. Quinno. She remarried and moved from the Port Charlotte area to The Villages of Lady Lake in 1998. She was an avid dancer, craft's enthusiast, and former member of the Harbour Heights Civic Association. She was Roman Catholic.

She is survived by her husband, Henry L. Hansen of The Villages of Lady Lake; three sons, Frank R. Quinno of Londonderry, N.H., John L. Quinno Jr. of Westford, Mass., and James L. Quinno of Saline, Mich.; three step-sons, Richard L. Hansen of Port Charlotte, Robert L. Hansen of Richlands, Va., and Roger L. Hansen of Fort Wayne, Ind.; one brother, Albert Anderson of Palm Bay, Fla.; two sisters, Laura Giles of Newport, N.C., and Gladys DeMasi of Medford, Mass.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services and Burial will be held this week in Wilmington, Mass.

The date for a memorial service has not been announced and will be held in The Villages of Lady Lake.

Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel.

Lois E. O'Malley

Lois Elnora O'Malley, 99, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004.

She was born icon July 18, 1905, in Chicago, Ill., to Harvey and Caroline Kohlburner Martin.

Mrs. O'Malley moved to Port Charlotte in 1969, coming from Illinois.

She is survived by her daughter, Joan (Gene) Passwater of Port Charlotte; brother, Harvey Martin; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the North Port Church of God at a later date.

Arrangements are by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Punta Gorda, Fla.

Robert A. Stefanik

Ret. U.S. Air Force Col. Robert Anthony Stefanik, 80, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004.

He was born icon Feb. 18, 1924, in Webster, Mass.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ivene Cave Stefanik.

The memorial mass will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Reidsville, Ga.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be sent to Florida Right to Life, 378 Center Pointe Circle, Suite 1250, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701, or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 211 W. Charlotte Ave., Punta Gorda, FL 33950.

Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Molly C.B. Sweet

Molly C.B. Sweet, 42, OF Cape Haze formerly of Sarasota, died Friday, September 17, 2004 at her Charlotte County residence. Englewood Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service have been selected to handle arrangements.

Sally F. Thompson

Sally Freeman Thompson, 90, of Englewood, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at Englewood Community Hospital.

She was born icon Jan. 3, 1914, in Springfield, Tenn., to James and Mae (Jett) Freeman.

Mrs. Thompson was a graduate of Knoxville High School, Knoxville, Tenn. and was employed for over 15 years at Northrop Corp. in Huntsville, Ala. After moving from Alabama to Englewood in 1973, she was the secretary for 10 years at St. David's Episcopal Church. After her retirement, she continued as treasurer of the Englewood Chapter of F.I.S.H.

She is survived by a daughter, Martha Lingle of Brookings, S.D.; daughter-in-law, Nelda Thompson of Englewood; niece, Dr. JoAnn Sexton of Lexington, Ky.; five grandchildren, Nancy Jett Thompson, Henry Thompson, Phillip Lingle, Jeffrey Lingle and Scott Lingle; two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Rachel.

A memorial service will be held at St. David's Episcopal Church at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, with The Rev. Arthur R. Lee III, officiating.

Interment will be in the Church Memory Garden.

Memorial donations are requested to the "Organ Fund," St. David's Episcopal Church, 401 S. Broadway, Englewood, FL 34223.

Lemon Bay Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been selected to handle the cremation arrangements.

Dorothy W. Axtell

Dorothy W. Axtell, 86, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at her Port Charlotte residence.

She was born icon Dorothy Marie Webb on Dec. 16, 1917, in Hollis, Okla.

Dorothy married Fred W. Axtell. She moved to the Port Charlotte area in 1956 from Las Vegas, N.M. The Axtell family owned and operated Axtell Automotive Service in Charlotte Harbor, Fla., for many years. Dorothy was a Methodist.

She is survived by her son, Fred R. (Sally) Axtell of Port Charlotte; and grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Robert A. and Gwen Axtell of Bradenton, Fla. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred W. Axtell.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at the Port Charlotte Chapel of Roberson Funeral Home, followed by committal services and Burial at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte. The Rev. J. Ralph Burton Jr. officiated.

Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel.Robert L. Whitworth Sr.

Robert L. Whitworth Sr., 76, of Rotonda West, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004.

He was born icon May 30, 1928, in Laurens County, S.C.

Mr. Whitworth served in the U.S. Army. He was a supervisor at the Fort Myers Housing Authority and dedicated his retirement years to bringing smiles and laughter to seniors by doing parties and activities for them.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughters, Constance King of Richland, Va., Carol Skoby of Newberry, Fla., Jeanie Stone of Georgia, and Linda Phillips of Liberty, S.C.; son, Larry of Simpsonville, S.C.; sister, Clara Jean Moon of Maulden, S.C.; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at Pentecostals of Englewood, 2960 S. McCall Road, Englewood.

Gerry Rios

Gerry Rios, 49, of Arcadia, Fla., died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, in Tampa, Fla.

He was born icon Nov. 7, 1954, in Lubbock, Texas.

Mr. Rios moved to Arcadia in 1975. He was employed as an agriculture labor contractor. He was a member of Apostolic Tabernacle in Wauchula, Fla.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca; parents, Ernesto and Irene Rios of Arcadia; sons, Jerry and Abel Rios of Texas, Freedom and Joshua Rios of Arcadia and Ramon Garcia of Indiana; daughters, Danielle Rios and Lucy Garcia of Arcadia; brothers, Ernesto Rios Jr. and Ernest Lee Rios of Arcadia, Armando Rios of Ruskin, Fla., and Gilberto Rios of Ocala, Fla.; sisters, Sylvia Moya of Texas, Linda Rios, Yolanda Rios and Rachel Rios, all of Arcadia, Lisa Valdez of Wauchula and Veronica Soria of Ruskin; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at Robarts Family Garden Chapel, 529 W. Main St., Wauchula. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at Apostolic Tabernacle, 640 E. Apostolic Way, Wauchula, with Burial at Wauchula Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Robarts Family Funeral Home, Wauchula.
