Mabel P. Douglas

Mabel P. Douglas, 91, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, in Port Charlotte.

She was born icon June 11, 1913, in Fountain, Fla.

Mrs. Douglas relocated to Port Charlotte in 1972 from Davie, Fla. She had been a real estate agent for Waldrop Realty and more recently Coldwell-Banker Sunstar Realty, retiring in 1995.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Pilcher of Port Charlotte; a son, John C. Douglas of Castle Rock, Colo.; a brother, Charles (Blanche) Porter of Titusville, Fla.; a sister, Lillian Dull of Auburndale, Fla.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin T. Douglas, in 1990.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at the Port Charlotte chapel of Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, 2405 Harbor Blvd., Port Charlotte.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Charlotte/DeSoto County Chapter, P.O. Box 42, Punta Gorda, FL 33951.

Arrangements are by Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel.

George E. Matyk

George Edward Matyk, 91, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital in Port Charlotte. Arrangements are by Paul Schelm Funeral Home, Port Charlotte.

Malcolm M. Simons Jr.

Malcolm M. Simons Jr., 88, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004.

He was the son of Malcolm and Ida (Meyer) Simons Sr., born icon July 9, 1916 in Mercer, Pa.

Malcolm graduated from Camp Hill High and Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, where he also attended graduate school at Sweetbriar College, Cornell University and Dickinson School of Law of Penn State University. He served in the Naval Aviation during World War II. Malcolm was the president and CEO of Malcolm M. Simons and Son, Inc., an independent insurance agency and brokerage firm before retiring. He and his wife Ruth moved to Port Charlotte in 1975 from Carlisle, Pa. Malcolm was a lifelong Methodist and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. For 11 years he taught a bird study course at the Cultural Center of Charlotte County and directed bird surveys for Atlantic and Gulf Coast Beached. He was also a member of the Peace River Audubon Society, Venice Area Audubon Society and Florida Ornithological Society where he led field trips and gave lectures.

Malcolm will be greatly missed by his wife Ruth; two sons; three daughters; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Raymond Gawthrop

Raymond Gawthrop, 78, of Englewood, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004. Lemon Bay Funeral Homes, Englewood Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Gould

Helen "Sally" Gould, 73, of Rotonda West, Fla., died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004.

She was born icon April 28, 1931, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Clarence and Helen (Altmeyer) Zeise.

She was a loving wife, mother and caretaker for her family. She moved to Port Charlotte, Fla., in 1996, from Miami, Fla., and then to Rotonda West in 1998. A dedicated communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Mrs. Gould demonstrated her faith in her generosity, humility and charity. As the treasurer of the St. Francis Outreach Ministry, she always strived to keep the food pantry stocked and was a brilliant ombudsman for the individuals and families she served.

She is survived by her three daughters, Laura A. Gould-Fantato of Italy, Teresa A. "Terri" Gould of North Port, Fla., and Rita A. Gould of Englewood, Fla.; one sister, Margaret "Peggy" Prostko of Austin, Texas; one brother, Clarence "Chuck" Zeise of Deltona, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Marco and Melissa.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Ira Gould in 1998.

Funeral Liturgy will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, with the Rev. Marcel Dube officiating. Inurnment will be at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery in Miami, Fla.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Outreach Ministry, 5265 Placida Road, Grove City, FL 34224, in memory of Mrs. Gould.

Englewood Community Funeral Home has been selected to handle the arrangements.

Kimberly K. Bonham

Kimberly Kay Bonham, 38, of North Port, Fla., died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at her home. Arrangements are by James A. McKee Funeral Homes, North Port.

Robert D. Woodmansee

Robert D. Woodmansee, 60, of North Port, Fla., died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at his home.

He was born icon Nov. 20, 1943, in Springfield, Mass., to Harold and Martha (Marshall) Woodmansee.

He served in the U.S. Air Force. He moved to the North Port area 16 years ago from Massachusetts. He retired from the Department of Corrections, Charlotte Corrections Institute.

Mr. Woodmansee is survived by sons, Robert Woodmansee Jr. of North Port and Ryan Woodmansee of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a daughter, Shawn Woodmansee of Port Charlotte; sisters, Anne Woodmansee of Manhattan, Kan., Lynne Wimberly of Germany, Jane Woodmansee of Clinton, Conn., and Karen Swenson of Springfield; and two grandchildren.

A service will be private for the family.

Arrangements are by James A. McKee Funeral Homes, North Port.

William B. Jenks

William Browning Jenks, 89, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004.

He was born icon Oct. 7, 1914, in Providence, R.I., to Joseph

and Lillian Harland Jenks.

Mr. Jenks was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during World War II. He was a retired inspector for Pratt-Whitney Aviation and an inspector for the Federal Aviation Administration. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his son, William Jenks of Arcadia, Fla.;

daughter, Sara Fairman of Etters, Pa.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

It was Mr. Jenks wishes that services be private.

Arrangements are under the direction of Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Punta Gorda.

Donald R. Livingston

Donald R. Livingston, 67, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at home.

He was born icon June 23, 1937, in Newark, Ohio.

Donald was a truck driver by trade and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Punta Gorda. He belonged to the civic center and was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia of Punta Gorda; two daughters, Mary Ann (Steve) Dennis of Heath, Ohio, and Marcia (Tim) Kuyper of Tempe, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at a later date.

Arrangements are by Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, 635 E. Marion Ave., Punta Gorda.

Pelagja Polkowski

Pelagja Polkowski, 93, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at her home.

She was born icon Oct. 13, 1910, in Ford Village, Mass., to Vincenty and Feliksa Matelow Bochenko.

She grew up in Poland where she moved to as an infant. She married John Polkowski Sept. 6, 1937, in Poland and immigrated to Michigan. They began wintering in 1970 to Florida from Dearborn Heights, Mich. In 1981 they moved to Port Charlotte. Pelagja was an unselfish, generous and loving mom. She devoted her life to raising her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Jane Polkowski of Heathrow, Fla., Mary (Joe) Kelty of Waterford, Mich., and Theresa (John) Petts of Zephyr Cove, Nev.; sons, John (Sandra) Polkowski of Bethel, Conn., and Robert (Sue) Pillowslip of Plymouth, Mich.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 21505 Augusta Ave., Port Charlotte, with interment to follow at Charlotte Memorial Gardens in Punta Gorda, Fla.

Arrangements are by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Punta Gorda.

Marie L. Stohurski

Marie L. Stohurski, 92, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.

She was born icon Aug. 15, 1912, in West New York, N.J.

Marie moved from Lincoln Park, N.J. to Port Charlotte in 1977. She attended St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte.

She is survived by her sister, Suzanne Lazoricek of Port Charlotte, Fla.; nephews, William (Bernadette) Smith of Culpepper, Va., Richard (Geraldine) Smith of Catawba, N.C., Frank (Carol) Lazoricek of Swansboro, N.C.; nieces, Joan (Ray) Gudelanis of Randolph, N.J.; and many grand and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1979.

Visitation and services will be held in North Bergen, N.J., later this week.

Burial will be held at Madonna Cemetery, Fort Lee, N.J.

Local arrangements are by Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, Port Charlotte.

Priscilla Taylor

Priscilla Taylor, 72, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at Mease-Dunedin Hospital in Dunedin, Fla.

She was born icon Sept. 3, 1921, in Detroit, Mich.

Priscilla moved from Michigan to Port Charlotte 23 years ago. She worked most recently at Bealls Department stores.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Taylor of Port Charlotte; daughters, Gloria Angel and Diane Godfried both of Michigan; and stepson, James William Taylor of California.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, 2405 Harbor Blvd., Port Charlotte.

Arrangements are by Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, Port Charlotte.

Anthony F. Aulicino

Anthony F. Aulicino, 80, of Englewood, Fla., passed away Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at Englewood Community Hospital. Cremation arrangements are being handled by Lemon Bay Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Englewood Chapel.

Bertryl Bittler

Bertryl Bittler, 78, of North Port, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at Bon Secours-Venice Hospital, Venice, Fla. Lemon Bay Funeral Home and Cremation Service has been selected to handle arrangements.

William H. Youngheim

William H. "Bill" Youngheim, 85, of Fort Ogden, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at the Hospice of Lake and Sumter, Tavares, Fla.

He was born icon July 15, 1919, in Wantaugh, N.Y., to Arthur and Bertha "Betty" Youngheim.

Bill served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and saw action on Okinawa. He moved from Franklin Square, N.Y., to Fort Ogden in 1969. He worked for the Florida State Hospital System until his retirement. He was an active member of the Fort Ogden United Methodist Church and a volunteer for many local organizations.

He is survived by his nephew, Robert Edwards of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; niece, Virginia Edwards-Ferguson of Glenn Allen, Va.; sister-in-law, Agnes Edwards of Mt. Dora, Fla.; niece; Joan Conway-Hylard of Esperance, N.Y.; many great- and great-great neices and nephews; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Bertha "Betty" Youngheim, and his sister, Dorothy M. Edwards of Fort Ogden.

The family requests memorial donations be made to your church or to the Fort Ogden United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 340, Fort Ogden, FL 34267.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at the Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsboro Ave., Arcadia, Fla., with an 11 a.m. funeral service to follow.

Interment will follow at Fort Ogden Cemetery.

Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Eleanor A. Buono

Eleanor A. Buono, 77, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at Palmetto Nursing and Rehab. in Palmetto, Fla. Arrangements are by National Cremation Society, Venice, Fla.

Francis R. Hollman

Francis Roger Hollman, 77, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at his residence in Port Charlotte.

He was born icon May 12, 1927, in Buffalo, N.Y.

Mr. Hollman served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired as a meat manager for a supermarket in New York. He moved to Port Charlotte in 1992, from Henrietta, N.Y., and was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in Port Charlotte.

Mr. Hollman is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor Hollman of Port Charlotte; two sons, Guy (Carolyn) Hollman of Port Charlotte and Garrett Hollman of Arlington,Va.; a daughter, Kimberly (Michael) Frey of West Henrietta, N.Y.; two sisters, Marian (Roger) Becker of Clarence Center, N.Y., and Natalie Oviatt of Pikesville, Tenn.; and four grandchildren, Gennelle, Nicholas, Kristin and Gretchen.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 2, 2004, with a Catholic prayer service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in Port Charlotte, with the Rev. Robert Mattingly officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities Charlotte County Hurricane Charley Relief Fund, 100 Pinebrook Road, Venice, FL 34292.

Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home and Crematory, Port Charlotte Chapel.
