Keith L. Brown

Keith L. Brown, 61, of Punta Gorda, Fla., and formerly of Dubuque, Iowa, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, in Port Charlotte, Fla.

He was born icon April 23, 1943, in Moline, Ill..

Keith was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for John Deere at Dubuque Works, in Dubuque. He was a participant in motorcycle runs for Hospice of Iowa, and played the steel guitar with Rick Tittle and his Blue Ribbon Express band. He moved from Dubuque to the Punta Gorda area 19 months ago.

Keith is survived by his beloved wife, Juanita M. Brown; three sons, Timothy Brown of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Gregory Brown of Apple Valley, Minn., and D.J. Burris of Punta Gorda; his Mother Letha P. Brown of Dubuque; two sisters, Kathleen Schmitz of Dubuque, and Janice Kirchner of Keokuk, Iowa; two brothers, Kenneth Brown of Northridge, Calif., and Robert Brown of Illinois; four granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Currently, no services have been planned. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.

Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory, Punta Gorda Chapel.

Gilbert C. Dodson Jr.

Gilbert C. Dodson Jr., 83, a long-time resident of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004.

He was born icon in Logansport, Ind.

Mr. Dodson was a veteran of World War II, and a graduate of Purdue University. He worked as an electrical engineer for General Electric Co. for four decades. Gilbert was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity and the Port Charlotte Elks Lodge. Throughout his life, he was an avid sailor, a golfer and tennis player, who also enjoyed music and reading. He was a man who loved people, intellectual discussions, and the Southwest Florida area. He was a devoted father and friend, who will be sorely missed.

Gilbert is survived by his son, Eric Dodson of Carrollton, Ga.; nieces, Connie Birthright of Bonita Springs, and Debbie Gant of Indianapolis, Ind.; and his nephew, Robert Bruce of Fayetteville, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his son, Craig Dodson, in 1984.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gilbert's name may be made to the American Red Cross, c/o Charlotte CountyDisaster Relief Fund, 1300 Enterprise Drive #10, Port Charlotte, FL 33953, or to the Purdue University Foundation for Engineering, 403 W. Wood Street, West Lafayette, IN 47907-2007.

Margaret L. Seeley

Margaret L. Seeley, 86, of North Port, Fla., and formerly of Foxwood, Englewood, Fla., passed away Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at her Sarasota County residence.

She was born icon April 26, 1918, in Bethlehem, Pa., to William and Mary (Thompson) Bartsch.

Mrs. Seeley raised eight children. She moved from Bel Air, Md. to Englewood in 1975. She found time to enjoy bingo at the Englewood Elks Lodge, where her husband was a former member. She was a loving wife and mother.

Mrs. Seeley is survived by her sons, Charles of Sparrows Point, Md., Melvin of Baltimore, Md., and Robert of Tamarac, Fla.; her daughters, Barbara Mitchell of Hanover, Pa., Roberta Jenkins of Baltimore, Mary Neal of North Port, Jane Rapisarda of White Marsh, Md., and Stacy Litwiler of Fortville, Ind.; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at the Lemon Bay Funeral Home Englewood chapel. Inurnment will be at a later date in Gulf Pines Memorial Park.

Lemon Bay Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.

Lisa J. Clement

Lisa Jane "Leese" Clement, 38, of Naples, Fla., died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, in Naples.

She was born icon June 7, 1966, in Yonkers, N.Y. She was the daughter of Jane (Burr) Bogeskov and King M. Clement.

"Leese," as she was affectionately known by her family and friends, was raised in Schenectady, N.Y. She attended St. Paul the Apostle School, then later moved with her family to Port Charlotte, Fla. She graduated from Port Charlotte High School and was an avid softball and basketball player. She pursued body building, taking part in various related competitions. She attended the University of South Florida in Sarasota for almost four years, where she studied business with an emphasis on entering the medical field. Her career, for the past 18 years, was in the field of ophthalmology, and she had been working at Eye Centers of Florida in Naples as an ophthalmic surgical assistant.

Leese enjoyed bicycling and reading, and often counseled people. She was a wonderful person.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, and is survived by her mother, Jane Bogeskov, and Jane's husband, Bernie of Bloomington, Minn.; her father, King M. Clement, and his wife, Heidi, of Port Charlotte; her brother, Clifford Holly of Venice, Fla.; three aunts, Eleanor Carentz of Toddsville, N.Y., Madeline Watson of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Dixie Lawrence of Clifton Park, N.Y.; and two uncles, Ray (Joan) Burr of St. Joseph's City, Ariz., and Warren Clement of Schenectady. She was preceded in death by her brother, Calvin C. Holly Jr., May 5, 1984; her maternal grandmother, Agnes Burr; and her paternal grandmother, Jean Clement.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, in St. Mary's "Our Lady of the Lake" Catholic Church in Cooperstown, N.Y., with the Rev. John P. Rosson, pastor, presiding. The Rite of Committal and Burial will follow at Hartwick Seminary Cemetery, where Leese will be laid to rest near her brother, Calvin, and her grandmother, Agnes.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., when the family is present, with a Vigil service at 8:45 Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, officiated by the Rev. Rosson, at Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home, Cooperstown.

Lester Dains

Lester Dains, 69, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004. Arrangements are by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Punta Gorda.

William A. Doherty Jr.

William A. Doherty Jr., 79, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, in Gillette, Wyo.

He was born icon March 22, 1925, in Woburn, Mass.

William served his country in the U.S. Navy, and was a mechanic for the Dolleriod Company. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and was active with ABATE.

He is survived by his former wife, Susan of Port Charlotte; and his eight children, William, Jolene, Cathleen, Maureen, and Melissa (Robert) Fresard, all of Port Charlotte, Jeffery of Sarasota, Colleen Defuria of Massachusetts, and Mariesta (Peter) of Maine.

Local services are private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to All Children's Hospital, Toy Run Program, 801 6th St. South, St. Petersburg, FL 33701.

Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Albert A. Johnson

Albert A. Johnson, 71, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at his residence.

He was born icon March 13, 1933, in Ashland, Wis.

Mr. Johnson earned his master's degree in social work, and worked as a counselor. He moved from Panama City, Fla., to the Port Charlotte area 10 years ago.

He is survived by his sons, Douglas Johnson of Lakeland, Fla., Grant Johnson of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Todd Johnson of North Carolina; his daughter, Netty Anhorne of Bradenton; and six grandchildren, Jean and Brent Anhorne, and Ian, Laura, Meagan, and Sterling Johnson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Francis E. Johnson, in 2003.

A memorial service will be held at a later date by the family. Interment is private.

Arrangements are by Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel.

Geraldine Jorif

Geraldine Jorif, 88, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at her residence,

She was born icon Dec. 16, 1915, in Panama.

She retired from the garment industry in New York City, and moved to Port Charlotte in 1985, from Queens, N.Y. She was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church of Port Charlotte.

Mrs. Jorif is survived by her loving husband, John T. Jorif; four sons, Douglas, Winston, Gregory and John Jorif; two sisters, Elsie Watson and Ernesta Apollo; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte.

Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel.

Nicholas Burke

Nicholas Burke, 77, of Englewood, Fla., passed away Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004. Arrangements are by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens in Punta Gorda, Fla.

Naomi C. Eldredge

Naomi C. Eldredge, 89, of Englewood, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004.

She was born icon Oct. 12, 1914, in East Orange, N.J.

Mrs. Eldredge moved to the Englewood area in 1980, from Middletown, N.J. She was a homemaker and was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by her daughters, Christine Halstead and Jeanne Walton, both of Englewood; her grandchildren, Susan Park, Bryan Halstead and Wayne Walton, all of Englewood, Wendy Dremann of North Port, Fla., and Laurie Smith of Bradenton, Fla.; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at a later date on Manasota Key in Florida.

Memorial donations may be made to the National Stroke Association, 8480 E. Orchard Road, Suite 1000, Englewood, CO 80111.

Robert L. Drawdy

Robert Lee Drawdy, 74, of Nocatee, Fla., died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004.

He was born icon Jan. 27, 1930, in Arcadia, Fla.

Mr. Drawdy moved to Missouri as a child. He was self-employed as a commercial truck driver. He moved back to the Arcadia community in 1954. He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Drawdy is survived by his wife, Gladys Laverne Drawdy of Nocatee, Fla.; his sons, William Roger Drawdy of Arcadia and Alpha Lee (Marsha) Drawdy of Nocatee; his sisters, Alma Shoemake of Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Robert Lee (Darleen) Drawdy II and Debra and Nathaniel Drawdy, all of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Shalina Drawdy of Arcadia; and four great-grandchildren, Eric Barber, Robert Lee Drawdy III, Kay Rudow and Joshua Lee Coffey, all of Port Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Hazel Ann and Lessie Louise Drawdy; his sister, Hazel Williams; and his parents, Gerome and Gertrude Drawdy.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at Ponger-Kays-Grady Chapel, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at the chapel. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Arcadia.

Arrangements are by Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia.

Donald E. Boyer

Donald Earl Boyer, 66, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at his Charlotte County residence.

He was born icon Sept. 23, 1937, in Hartford, Conn., to Hector and Harriet (Medbery) Boyer.

Mr. Boyer served in the U.S. Army. He was a sprinkler fitter for Grinnell Fire Protection Service in Rhode Island. After working there 35 years, he retired in 1992, and moved to Port Charlotte nine years ago from Coventry, R.I. He was a member of the National Automatic Sprinkler Industry Local Union 767, BPO Elks Lodge 2285 in West Greenwich, R.I., Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 2121 in Port Charlotte, and American Legion Post in Venice, Fla. He was a life member of the DAV in Port Charlotte, and he was of the Catholic faith.

Mr. Boyer is survived by his wife of 32 years, Anna M. Boyer of Port Charlotte; one sister, Margie Olsen of Homosassa Springs, Fla.; and one brother, Robert Boyer of Galloway, N.J. He was preceded in death by two stepsons, Daniel J. and Bryan K. Miller.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at Englewood Community Funeral Home, 3070 S. McCall Road. A funeral liturgy will be said at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 5265 Placida Road, Englewood. Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.

Englewood Community Funeral Home has been selected to handle the arrangements.

Bernard L. Butler

Bernard L. Butler, 81, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004.

He was the son of Guy and Mary (McCardle) Butler, born icon Aug. 24, 1922, in Westburg, Iowa.

Bernard served with the U.S. Marines in the Pacific Theater. He retired from pharmaceutical sales and moved to the Port Charlotte area in 1977 from Chicago, Ill. He worked at the Post Office in Punta Gorda until 1990. He was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the Punta Gorda Country Club.

Bernard will be greatly missed by his wife of 15 years, Betty; daughters, Dionette Polacek of New Brighton, Minn., Bridget Gibson of Golden Valley, Minn., and Mary Beth Welzenbach of Kansas City, Kan.; sons, James Butler of Reno, Nev., Michael Butler of Sparks, Ariz., and Charles Butler of Bettendorf, Iowa; and 17 grandchildren.

Maxine L. Nordstrom

Maxine Louise Nordstrom, 66, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004.

Maxine was born icon in Flint, Mich.

She retired as a secretary from Met Life Insurance Co. in 1999, and moved here from Tampa, Fla., in 1999. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda.

She is survived by Teresa S. Czarnik of Plainsboro, N.J., and Jennifer A. Nordstrom of Plainsboro; sons, James Nordstrom of Punta Gorda, and Eric M. Nordstrom of Ontario, Canada; her brother, Joseph Brisson of Greenville, Mich.; and four grandchildren.

Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Janice C. El-Sayed

Janice C. El-Sayed, 67, formerly of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, in Atlanta, Ga.

Janice was born icon in De Funiak Springs, Fla., to Homer and Sue Jones.

She attended school in Punta Gorda. She received her bachelor's degree from Florida State University. Janice married Dr. Mostafa El-Sayed in 1957. She and her husband moved to Los Angeles in 1962. She raised five children, taught school, and worked in the real estate business. Janice moved with her husband to Atlanta in 1994. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Janice is survived by her husband, Mostafa; her four children, Lyla El-Sayed Serino, Tarric El-Sayed, Dorea El-Sayed Kopshever, and Ivan El-Sayed; her seven grandchildren, Andrew, Nicole, Xanth, Tassia, Evan, Kyle, and Ava; her two sisters, Marsha Gale Cox, and Shera Winessett, and her brother, Anton Jones.

A funeral service was held Aug. 14, 2004, at Gates, Kingsley & Gates Funeral Home, 1925 Arizona Ave., Santa Monica, Calif. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Janice's name to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements were by Gates, Kingsley & Gates Funeral Home, Santa Monica.

Edna J. D'Alessandro

Edna J. D'Alessandro, 81 of Venice, Fla., died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004. Arrangements are by Lemon Bay Funeral Homes, Englewood Chapel.
