Martha V. Millsap

Martha V. Millsap, 78, of Englewood, Fla., passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at her Sarasota County residence.

Mrs. Millsap was born icon July 12, 1925, in Laurens, S.C., to Claude and Susie (Owens) Vaughan. She married Burch Millsap, and after he retired, they moved from Great Falls, Va., to Englewood in 1983. She was a member of Columbia Baptist Church in Falls Church, Va., and attended Englewood United Methodist Church in Englewood. Martha was a loving wife, mother and a dedicated homemaker.

She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Burch Millsap; daughter, Carol (Charles) Bryant of Bowie, Md.; son, Brian (Susan) Millsap of Reston, Va.; brothers, C. L. Vaughan of Stewart, Fla., and Owens Vaughan of Chapel Hill, N.C.; sister, Dorothy Clary of Tryon, N.C.; and four grandchildren, Jessica, Katherine, Virginia Millsap and Megan Amber Bryant.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, in the Doan chapel of Englewood United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Sam Seizert officiating. Private inurnment will be at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Lemon Bay Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Englewood Chapel.

Maria O. Klos

Maria Oksana Klos, 70, of North Port, Fla., died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004.

She was born icon Aug. 28, 1933, in Stanislaviv, Ukraine. She moved to North Port four years ago from Bellingham, Wash. She was a member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, George Klos; and a son, Levko Klos, both of North Port.

Visitation was held on Monday, Jan. 12, 2004.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Farley Funeral Home, North Port Chapel, and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Severyn Kovalyshin will officiate. Burial will follow at Venice Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are by Farley Funeral Home, North Port Chapel.

Margaret L. Lanfair

Margaret "Marge" Lou Lanfair, 71, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla.

She was born icon March 15, 1932, in Bradenton, Fla. She was a cook in a restaurant. She was a loyal member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge WOTM Chapter 1597 in Arcadia.

She is survived by her son, Luther (Diane) Platt of Arcadia; daughters, Mary Ann Gallagher and Linda Plaster, both of Arcadia; brother, James Harris; sisters, Nelda (Art) Powers of Moore Haven, Fla., and Mary Grace (Red) Neal of Arcadia; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Platt; and a son, Billy Platt.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Robarts Funeral Home, Arcadia Chapel, 163 N. Brevard Ave., Arcadia. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ron York. Burial will be at Palms Memorial Park in Sarasota, Fla. A dinner will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday Jan. 14, 2004, at the Moose Lodge in Arcadia.

Arrangements are by Robarts Funeral Home, Arcadia Chapel.

Herbert Barnes

Herbert "Bert" Barnes, 85, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital in Port Charlotte. Arrangements are by Paul Schelm Funeral Home, Port Charlotte.

Dannie R. Elco Sr.

Dannie R. Elco Sr., 59, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004. Arrangements are by Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, Punta Gorda.

Albert E. Fairhurst

Albert E. Fairhurst, 80, of North Port, Fla., died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, in Bon Secours-Venice Hospital in Venice, Fla. Arrangements are by James A. McKee Funeral Homes, North Port.

Carmen M. Otero

Carmen M. Otero, 68, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004. Arrangements are by Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services, Punta Gorda, Fla.

Arthur Roscoe

Arthur "Art" Roscoe, 81, of North Port, Fla., died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, in Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda, Fla. Arrangements are by James A. McKee Funeral Homes, North Port.

John A. Gambling

NEW YORK -- Broadcaster John A. Gambling, 73, of Boca Grande, whose morning radio show, "Rambling with Gambling," was founded by his father in 1925 and continued by his son after he retired, died Thursday, said his son, John R. Gambling.

Gambling worked at the New York radio station WOR-AM until his retirement in 1991. The news and talk show was a New York institution for decades, known for quiet dignity in a market increasingly dominated by shock jocks. It lasted longer than 75 years, and was listed as the world's longest-running radio show in Guinness World Records 2003.

Gambling began hosting it in 1959, taking over from his father, John B. Gambling, who started the program. After he retired, his son John R. Gambling became the primary host. In 2000, Gambling was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife, Sally; son, John R. Gambling; daughters Ann Hoffman of Bedford, N.Y., and Sarah McGayhey of Shelter Island, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be in Boca Grande. A memorial service will be later in New York.

Janet R. Davis

Janet Rae Davis, 67, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Saturday Jan. 10, 2004, in a local hospital.

Janet was born icon in Columbus, Ohio, Dec. 23, 1936, to Luella Modean Hart Drown of Jonesborough, Ind. She attended Muncie Central High School in Muncie, Ind. Janet married Charles Davis Jr., Aug. 1, 1953. She lived in Tampa, Fla., at Macdill Air Force Base, during her husband's tour of duty. She resided there until November, 1955. Janet and her husband returned to the Muncie area where they started several small businesses. The most successful business was the Pine Acre Kennel, which featured dog-grooming and boarding. In 1978, they sold the business, and moved to Port Charlotte. Janet became a real estate agent. She and her husband managed the Bahia Vista Condominium on Venice Beach, she retired in 1994. During the past few years, she resided at Presbyterian Towers in Port Charlotte, where she enjoyed many new friends and maintained her independent living. She took her greatest pleasure in her children and her many grandchildren. Her greatest joy, was their happiness.

Janet is survived by two sons, three daughters and their spouses: Charles E. (Kristine) Davis III of West Valley, N.Y.; Sherry D. (Glenn) White of North Port, Fla., Robin K. (Randy) Reigle of North Port, Fla.; Clay Antonio (Dawn) Davis of Port Charlotte, Fla.; Lucinda J. Krull of Port Charlotte and 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Charles E. Davis, Jr.; and her mother, Luella Modean Hart Drown.

Visitation with the family will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at First Christian Church, 21450 Gibralter Drive, Port Charlotte. The Rev. Dale Roberts, pastor, will be officiating.

Alice M. Whiton

Alice "Mizzie" Marcella Whiton, 84, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004.

Mizzie was born icon to Walter and Emma Grill at Lennox Hill Hospital, N.Y. She married Tedford L. Woodard on June 19, 1940, and had four children. She later did her nursing training at the Lennox Hill Hospital, in which she was born

She remained closely affiliated with the graduating class of 1941. She practiced nursing in New York. She moved to Florida, retired as the night supervisor of nursing at All Children's hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla. She married James S. Whiton of Port Charlotte in 1979, and was active in the Punta Gorda Boat Club. She was a member of the Maple Leaf Golf Club and the Aqua Size classes at the Wellness Center. She also attended the Unitarian Universalist Church in Port Charlotte and volunteered as a driver for many years with the Meals on Wheels program. She traveled extensively during her lifetime, visiting such places as China, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Katmandu, Alaska, Scandinavia, England and Africa.

She is survived by her husband James Whiton of Port Charlotte; sons, Tedford (Denise) Woodardof Costa Mesa, Calif., Wayne (Deborah) Woodard of Port Charlotte and Richard (Carol) Woodard of Prescott, AZ.; step-daughter Lela (Albert) Wakilof Kennett Square, Pa., Jill (William) Owens of Lady Lake, Fla., and Avice Sunter of Port Charlotte; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her first husband and her daughter Terri Lee Casey.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to Lennox Hill Nursing Alumni Needy Sick Nurse's Emergency Fund. Contact Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home in Punta Gorda for information.

Charles E. Ellenberger

Charles E. Ellenberger, 89, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Charlotte Regional Medical Center.

Charles was born icon in Marion County, Ind., on May 27, 1914. He worked for the Uniroyal tire Company. He moved to Punta Gorda in 1974 with his wife Kathryn Ellenberger. His interest was in real estate, accumulating numerous properties, which he maintained and managed himself.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Jan. 12, 2004, followed by funeral services at 7 p.m. at Kays-Ponger Funeral home 635 East Marion Avenue, Punta Gorda, Fla., with the Rev. Ralph Young officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Ellenberger's name to the American Heart Association or the Diabetes Foundation.

Arrangements are by Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home.

Raymond B. Fountain

Raymond B. Fountain, 74, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2004.

He was born icon June 22, 1929 in Ecorse, Mich., and lived in Taylor, Mich., for many years. He moved to Punta Gorda in 1991. Mr. Fountain was a veteran and a retired Teamster.

He is survived by his wife, Nadine Fountain of Punta Gorda; children, Cheryl Webb, Mark Fountain, John Fountain; and two grandchildren, Shawn Fountain and Andrea Fountain all of Taylor, Mich.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at the Punta Gorda chapel of Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis E. Postell officiating.

Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 22107 Elmira Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL 33952.

Arrangements are by the Punta Gorda Chapel of Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home.

Eugene A. Rotterman Jr.

Eugene A. Rotterman Jr., 83, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2003. He was born icon July 27, 1920, in Dayton, Ohio and moved to this area 16 years ago from Kettering, Ohio. He was the founder of Dayton Wired Music Service Inc. and Dayton Flexifone Co., Inc. He was a graduate of the University of Dayton. Mr. Rotterman served in the Army Signal Corps. during World War II, and was a member of the St. Andrews South Golf Club in Punta Gorda.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine; three children, Eugene III of San Diego, Calif., William L. of Kettering, Ohio, and Jane Lonchambon of Port Charlotte, Fla.; five grandchildren, Michael and Melissa Lonchambon of Houston, Texas, Eugene Rotterman IV and Theresa Pinkerton of San Diego, Calif., and William B. Rotterman of Dayton, Ohio; three great-grandchildren Delaney and Colleen Rotterman and Cadence Pinkerton.

Graveside memorial services will be held at Miami Valley Memory Gardens Cemetery in Centerville, Ohio.

Memorial donations may be made to the Animal Welfare League of Port Charlotte, 3519 Drance Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33980.

Domenicki DiLena

Domenicki DiLena, 82, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at his home.

He was born icon Jan. 24, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Michael and Carmela Biscardi DiLena. He moved to Port Charlotte from Long Island, N.Y., in 1973. Domenicki served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, and was a veteran of the Normandy invasion on D-Day. He was a founding member of Community Life Center Full Gospel Church in Port Charlotte, and was also a member of the board, and choir. In addition, he was a saxophone player. He was a firefighter, and retired as a fireman from New York City.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Rose DiLena of Port Charlotte; sons, Michael (Ruthanne) DiLena of Mount Sinai, Long Island, N.Y., Richard (Esther) DiLena of Deep Creek, Fla., and George (Teresa) DiLena of Port Charlotte; sisters, Ann (Joseph) Rizzo of Port Charlotte and Josephine (Alfred) Zollo of Spring, Texas; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Community Life Center, 19048 Edgewater Dr., Port Charlotte. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at the center, with the Rev. Warren Delling officiating. Interment will be at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens in Punta Gorda, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238 would be appreciated.

Arrangements are by James A. McKee Funeral Homes, North Port, Fla.

David C. Lecklitner

David C. Lecklitner, 81, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.

Mr. Lecklitner was born icon Oct. 14, 1922, in Tippecanoe County, Ind. He retired after 34 years of service at Eli Lilly & Co. in Indianapolis, Ind., and moved to Fort Myers, Fla., in December 1984. He later became a resident of Port Charlotte.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Phyllis; and his sister, Mary Anne Ogle of Sheridan, Ind.

Private services will be scheduled at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.

Arrangements are by Anderson Funeral Home, Fort Myers.

Arlene E. Neuner

Arlene E. Neuner, 72, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2004.

She was born icon Aug. 7, 1931, in Freeport, N.Y. She moved to Port Charlotte in 1989 from South River, N.J. Mrs. Neuner retired from Revlon Corporation in Edison, N.J. She was a member of Northwest Charlotte Community League, and was a secretary for Royal Palm Chapter of Antique Auto Club of America in Murdock, Fla.

Survivors include her daughter, Penny Dandino of Port Charlotte; son, Allen Neuner of Somerville, N.J.; sister, Jean Schall of Spotswood, N.J.; brother, Clifford Baker of Alaska; and grandson, Tommy (Shana) Dadino of Punta Gorda, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, on Nov. 14, 2003.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Attn: Memorials, P.O. Box 21475, St. Petersburg, FL 33742.

Arrangements are by National Cremation Society of Port Charlotte.

Harriet P. Polito

Harriet P. Polito, 79, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla.

She was born icon Sept. 19, 1924, in Reading, Pa., and moved to Port Charlotte in Oct. of 1977.

Harriet is survived by her loving husband, Frank J. Polito of Port Charlotte; sons, Robert F. (Barbara) Polito of Cary, N.C., and John S. (Evelyn) Polito of Port Charlotte; daughter, Carol Ann (Quentin) Napoleon of Pilesgrove, N.J.; sisters, Anna Nehilla of Allentown, Pa., Stephanie Wysakowski and Martha Whirl, both of Reading, and Frances Stubblebine of Wyomissing, Pa.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas M. Polito.

Services will be private.

Arrangements are by Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services, Cremation Center, Port Charlotte.

Mary A. H. Sperow

Mary Ann H. Sperow, 72, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003.

She was born icon Nov. 11, 1931, in Philadelphia, Pa.

Mary is survived by her husband, retired U.S. Army Col. Charles Sperow; two daughters, Stori Felker and Wendi Knowles; a sister, Audrey Sheppard; and 14 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at the Punta Gorda chapel of Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home.

Arrangements are by Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, Punta Gorda chapel.
