Thomas Comingore
Thomas "Tom" Comingore, 72, of Charlotte Harbor, Fla., and formerly of Cape Coral, Fla., passed away at home Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004.
Thomas was born
April 29, 1931, in Lafayette, Ind., to Esther and Fred Comingore. He graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1949 and attended Purdue University. Thomas attended his 50th class reunion in 1999 as the Master of Ceremonies. He fulfilled his dream by owning the Triple XXX Rootbeer Stand/Restaurant, "on the hill but on the level" in Indiana. He was the youngest elected council member of West Lafayette City Council, and later ran for mayor. He also managed several Parkmoor Restaurants in the Dayton, Ohio area. Thomas moved to Venice, Fla., where he leased a restaurant in 1977 and then moved to Fort Myers, Fla., to manage the William Tally House Cafeteria in Edison Mall. He became the food service director at Edison Community College, and served and supported all those connected with the building of the Barbara B. Mann Hall, as well as the many star performers who appeared there. His love of politics lead him to become the Lee County Democrat Chairman. He attended the first Clinton/Gore inauguration, as well as the State Democratic Party Conventions. He appeared on a weekly radio show from 1988 to 1995, which featured political discussions, and received the News Press runner-up award for "favorite radio personality" in 1993. He owned the Coffee Cup Café where he and the mannequin "Dora" greeted customers. Thomas wrote humorous and philosophical articles for his column, "Coffee Chats" in the Caloosahatchee Beacon, and which were featured in his published "Coffee Cup Cookbook." He was a member of the Writers Guild in Fort Myers and Port Charlotte. He served on a Missionary Team for the Cal Coral United Methodist Church in the Dominican Republic.
He is survived by his brothers and their wives: Bruce (Barb), Bob (Gloria), Joe (Betty), and his sister-in-law Ruth; sister, Catherine Robbins; his son, Rich (Nancy); daughters, Betty Jo Simpson, Carol (Don) Mayne and the Rev. Lisa KC (Steve) Smith; six grandchildren, which include his devoted grandsons, Brent and Brandon; and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother Dan.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Coral.

Marjorie Baur
Marjorie Baur, 89, formerly of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at Manor Care Health Services in Boulder, Colo.
Marjorie was born
Sept. 13, 1914, in Purdy, Mo. She was the daughter of Colman H. Gurley and Rebecca Gillaspy Gurley. She graduated from Webster Groves High School in Webster Groves, Mo., and attended Webster College. She married Nathan L. Baur on Aug. 21, 1939, and worked for Bell Telephone. She was a member of Webster Groves Presbyterian Church. Marjorie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and enjoyed playing golf, square-dancing and playing the piano.
She is survived by her husband of Boulder; a son, John Baur of Boulder; four daughters, Betsy Carr of Thornton, Colo., Gail Miller of Edison, N.J., Julie Baur Signitzer of Franklin, N.Y., and Jennifer Baur of Alpine, Texas.; a brother, Harold C. Gurley of Springfield, Mo.; a sister, Maribeth Israel of Normal, Ill.; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Herbert Gurley and John Gurley; and a granddaughter, Diane Marie Miller.
A private family gathering was held.

Harold W. Johnson
Harold W. Johnson, 83, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital in Port Charlotte.
He was born
Oct. 30, 1920, in Joppa, Ill., and moved to Port Charlotte in 1989 from Joppa. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a retired supervisor for Amphenol North America in Hollywood, Fla.
He is survived by a daughter, Dolores (Richard) Castle of Port Charlotte;
a sister, Elizabeth (George) Zanardi of California; four grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews in Illinois and Tennessee.
There will be a memorial service for Harold Johnson at a later date in Joppa. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's charity of choice.

William W. McCue
William Wilber McCue, 80, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2003.
He was born
Oct. 26, 1923, in Huntsburg, Ohio, and was raised by his aunt. He came to Punta Gorda in 1983. He attended Princeton University. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He received his wings in 1945, and was commissioned as an ensign, Pensacola Naval Air Station. He received an AB degree in economics. In 1948 he returned to the U.S. Navy and served 22 additional years. He served on the USS Currituck. He was squadron Commander VP-21 in Brunswick, Maine. He attended the Naval Post Graduate School and earned his MS degree. He earned the rank of captain, and was awarded numerous honorary service medals. At the time of retirement in June 1971, Captain McCue was commander of ASW Systems Program Office in Washington, D.C.
Mr. McCue was active in real estate in Colorado and Florida for the next 30 years. He also was a member of NROA, and was a 1992 past commodore of the Punta Gorda Sailing Club.
He is survived by his wife Peggy; three sons, Rick of Reno, Nev., Gary of Monument, Colo., and Mark (Valerie) of Miami Beach, Fla.; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Evelyn and Guy Fassa; his father, William McCue; and his aunt, Helen McCue-Coronati.
A memorial service celebrating McCue's life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Murdock Christian Church, with Mark Tyree officiating. military Honor Guard and Color Detail honoring Capt. McCue's service to the U.S. Navy and the country will follow. Burial at sea will be at the convenience of the family and the Punta Gorda Sailing Club. Robert F. Potter
Robert F. Potter, 85, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at his residence in Port Charlotte.
He was born
May 5, 1918, in Haverhill, Mass., and had been wintering
in Port Charlotte for more than 20 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Potter did many things over his life. He retired as a supervisor of housekeeping at the Veterans Hospital in Bedford, Mass. He was a member and usher of First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte. He attended First Baptist Church in Cape Nedick, Maine. He also was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and St. Joseph Hospital in Port Charlotte. He was a devoted husband and father and grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years of marriage, Lucille Potter of Port Charlotte; two daughters, Alice C. Atwood of Maynard, Mass., and Irene L. Sutkus of New Hampton, N.H.; a son, Richard E. Potter of Dallas, Texas; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte, 2230 Hariet St., Port Charlotte, FL 33952. There will be a memorial service at a later date in Massachusetts. Inurnment will be at Shawsheen Cemetery in Bedford.

G. Stuart Roth
Dr. G. Stuart Roth, 82, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004.
He was born
April 10, 1921, to Dr. G. Stuart and Adelaide Roth. He earned his medical degree from Syracuse University College of Medicine in 1945 during which time he was a member of the Nu Sigma Nu fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army as a captain, retiring from active duty in 1948. He practiced medicine in Syracuse until his retirement in 1980, where he relocated to Punta Gorda. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Onondaga County Medical Society, the Isles Yacht Club and Sacred Heart Church.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years of marriage, Patricia Hoag Roth; his brother, Martin C. Roth; his two sons, Dr. Michael S. Roth of Syracuse and Dr. Daniel H. Roth of West Bend, Wis.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, Punta Gorda Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Sacred Heart Church in Punta Gorda.

Donald J. Sullivan
Donald J. Sullivan, 71, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at home.
He was born
March 18, 1932, in Buffalo, N.Y. He moved to this area in 1988 from Buffalo. He served in the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Navy Sea Bees. He retired in 1985 from the Buffalo Police Department. Mr. Sullivan was a member of the American Legion 110, the Deep Creek Elks 2763 and an avid golfer and bowler. He also was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Punta Gorda.
He is survived by his spouse, Gladys; stepson, David (Dena) Giotte of California; stepdaughter, Lorna (Murl) Anderson of Indiana; brothers, Robert (Alice) Sullivan and William (Mary Ellen) Sullivan, all of Buffalo; and three step-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Edith Sullivan.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at Faith Lutheran Church in Punta Gorda, with the Rev. Barr Chittick officiating.

Raymond O. Treece
Raymond O. Treece, 93, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Mr. Treece was born
June 28, 1910, in East Alton, Ill. He had resided in the area since 1971, moving here after his retirement from Owens Glass Co. in Owens, Ill.
He is survived by his son, Donald (Annabell) Treece of St. Charles, Ill.; a brother, Albert Treece of Bethaldo, Ill.; granddaughter, Pamela Treece of Geneva, Ill.; grandson, Kevin Treece of Elgin, Ill.; two additional grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Burial will be private.

Samuel G. Seidenberg, 66, of Englewood, Fla., died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla.
He was born
Sept. 10, 1937, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Benjamin and Rose Seidenberg. He served in the U.S. Navy. He came here 10 years ago from Albany, N.Y.
He is survived by his wife, Loraine of Englewood; sons, Paul Mayakis of California, Michael Van Dyke of Clarksville, N.Y., and William Van Dyke of Delanson, N.Y.; daughters, Lisa Seidenberg of Albany, Rebecca Seidenberg of Denver, Colo., Terry Schinnerer of Knox, N.Y., and Cheryl McIntyre of Altamont, N.Y.; a sister, Barbara Arnow of San Antonio, Texas; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

James O. Belton Sr.
James Olan Belton Sr., 94, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003.
He was born
Oct. 13, 1909, in Halls, Tenn. He moved to Florida 24 years ago from Cortland, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Army for two tours of duty, Army Cavalry 1934 to 1937 and Army Air Corps. 1942 to 1945. He walked the Golden Gate Bridge the day before its actual opening. He was self-employed in the plumbing and heating business. Mr. Belton was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and Dad's of Foreign Service, all in Cortland. He also was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Arcadia.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Virginia; sons, James Jr. of Germany, and Marty L. of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; sister, Louise Jackson of Piggott, Ariz.; and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter; and two sons.
Memorial service will be held at a later date in Cortland.

Maude B. Chitwood, 96, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at DeSoto Memorial Hospital in Arcadia.
She was born
Jan. 1, 1908, in Scott County, Tenn. She came to Arcadia 18 years ago from Tennessee. She was a homemaker and mother. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Arcadia.
She is survived by a daughter, Viola Chitwood of Arcadia; three special daughters-in-law, Jean Vann, Mary Chitwood, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Paula Chitwood of Corbin, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at West Murley Funeral Home Chapel in Oneida, Tenn. Burial will be at Chitwood Cemetery in Oneida. Visitation was held on Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Arcadia Chapel of Robarts Funeral Home, 163 N. Brevard Ave., Arcadia.

Marianne Deppert
Marianne (Alexander) Deppert passed away Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Tampa General Hospital, Tampa, Fla.
She was born
March 3, 1953, at Johnson County Hospital in Franklin, Ind. She attended Indiana University, and Indian River College, where she earned her bachelor's degree in nursing. She was employed by Charlotte Region Medical Center until late in 1995. Marianne traveled to South America extensively in her former years. She was an avid pilot and an accomplished oil painter.
She is survived by her two children, Leslie Ann Deppert, and James Aaron Deppert, both of Punta Gorda; parents, George and Kay Alexander of Centerton, Ind., and Punta Gorda, Fla.; her older sister, Charlene Emerson of Martinsville, Ind.; and younger brothers Charles Alexander, Matthew Alexander, Sean Alexander, all of Centerton Ind.; her grandmother, Helen Alexander of Centerton; and numerous friends.
Memorial and funeral services will be held in Centerton, at an undetermined time.
A wake will be held locally at noon, Jan. 3, 2004, at Temple Bar Public House, next door to Celtic Ray Public House, Marion Avenue in Punta a Gorda.

John Stone Jr., 67, of Cadiz, Ky., died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tenn.
John was born
Jan. 2, 1936, in Betsy Layne, Ky. He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam wars, and was a member of VFW Post 7890, in Cadiz. He was the CEO of Stone Plastics Inc. He was a member of Church of Christ.
John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marcia Dress Stone of Cadiz; his stepmother, Etherine Stone, a daughter, Brenda (Michael) Thornton of Cadiz, his sons, Joe (Eunice) Stone, Randy Stone, and Steve Stone, all of Cadiz, Ky. and John William Stone of Port Charlotte, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Mackenzie Stone, Joann Stone, Michael Thornton, Rebecca Thornton, Bethany Thornton, Chandler Stone, Roxanne Bastean, Randy Stone Jr.; six great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Jasmine, Gavin, David, Stephen and Kyle. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Losa Stone; a son, David Stone; and brother, James Stone.
Visitation will be at 4 p.m., Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Goodwin Funeral Home, Cadiz. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at the funeral home, with Garry Stanton, clergy, officiating. An additional visitation will be at 1 p.m., Monday Jan. 5, 2004, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Grandville Cemetery chapel, in Grandville, Mich. Burial will be at Grandville Cemetery.
