Mary U. Wisner

Mary U. Wisner, 94, of Sebring, Fla., and formerly of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, in Sebring.

She was born icon in Ochelata, Okla., on Sept. 9, 1909, and had lived in Sebring for the past five years, moving there from Arcadia, where she had lived for 25 years. She moved to Arcadia from Detroit, Mich., with her husband, Harold Wisner.

She was a retired pharmacist, graduating from the Farris State School of Pharmacy in Big Rapids, Mich. She was an avid traveler, going all across the United States. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Arcadia, where she was active in various church functions.

Survivors are several nieces and nephews. Her husband Harold preceded her in death in 1979.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, with Burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Arcadia.

Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia, is in charge of arrangements.

Hugh F. MacDonald

Hugh F. "Mac" MacDonald, 78, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital, Port Charlotte.

He was born icon April 2, 1925, in Newark, N.J., and moved to Port Charlotte 34 years ago from Asbury Park, N.J. He was a former building inspector in both Charlotte and Lee counties and retired as a code inspector from Lee County. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Past Exalted Ruler and member of Elks Lodge No. 2153, Knights of Columbus, Council 5399, American Legion Post 110 and 40/8 Voiture 1526 all of Port Charlotte. He was a veteran of World War II, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and served in the Pacific Theater in the Philippines and Japan.

Survived by his wife of 54 years, Jacqueline M. "Jacquie" MacDonald of Port Charlotte; a daughter, Christine V. MacDonald of Port Charlotte; two sons, Bruce D. (Janice) MacDonald of Matthews, N.C., and Hugh F. "Skip" (Linda) MacDonald of Port Charlotte; an adopted daughter, Mary Ryan of Tallahassee, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jessica, Seth and Shawn; and one great-grandson, Andrew.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a Catholic wake service at 6:30 p.m. and an Elks memorial service at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at Roberson Funeral Home Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Interment and military honors by the U.S. Army will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.

William R. Spears

William R. Spears, 75, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.

He was born icon Nov. 2, 1928, in Rochester, N.Y., and moved to Port Charlotte in 1980 from Rochester. He was a retired horticulturist for Eastman-Kodak Co. in Rochester. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Port Charlotte and American Legion Post 474 of Rochester. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Doris F. Spears of Port Charlotte; a daughter, Cynthia G. Hathaway of Abbeville, S.C.; a son, Kenneth F. Genter of New Orleans, La.; a sister, Mary Jane Perry of Rochester; 7 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at St. James Episcopal Church, 1365 Viscaya Drive, Port Charlotte, with the Rev. Cesar Olivero officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 495126, Port Charlotte, FL 33949; or to the American Cancer Society, 22107 Elmira Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL 33952.

Mynetta Fluker

Mynetta Fargo Fluker, 92, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., and formerly of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, in Lehigh Acres.

She was born icon April 1, 1911, in New York to Guy and Florence (Hitchcock) Fargo. Mynetta married Norris Fluker on July 1, 1933. They were foster parents and later became adoptive parents. She was employed by the Cattaraugus County Department of Welfare and Social Services and the Department of Motor Vehicles. She was elected to serve as the Cattaraugus County clerk. Mynetta lived in the towns of South Dayton, N.Y., and Randolph, N.Y. She moved to Lehigh Acres in 1977. Mynetta was instrumental in organizing an Alzheimer's support group to the community of Lehigh Acres. She also resided in South Port Square in Port Charlotte.

She is survived by Paul Fluker of Salamanca, N.Y.; Edward Everetts, of Olean, N.Y.; a grandson, James Fluker of Orlando, Fla.; sister, Melva Trudell of South Dayton, N.Y.; and a brother, Guy Carleton Fargo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norris, in March of 1991; her parents; and Jeanne Fluker, William Jones and Zelda Payne.

It was Mrs. Fluker's request not to have a public service. Memorial contributions may be made to Alvin A. Dubin Alzheimer's Resource Center Inc., 9470 Health Park Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908.

Lawrence J. Gornto

Lawrence J. Gornto, 58, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003.

He was born icon March 9, 1945, in Savannah, Ga., He was the son of Frank and Mamie Gornto. Lawrence served in the U.S. Army, and was in Vietnam. He was a glazer for many years, and came to this area six years ago from Miami, Fla. Lawrence loved fishing and hunting.

He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Lisa Gornto of Miami; son, Wayne Gornto of Punta Gorda; and brothers, Robert Gornto of Miami and John Gornto of Oregon.

Frederick E. Wolf

Frederick Eugene Wolf, 79, of Englewood, Fla., died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at his Sarasota County residence.

He was born icon April 25, 1924, in Wauseon, Ohio, to Frederick and Edna (Snow) Wolf. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a tail gunner with the Mighty 8th Air Force, 385th Bomb Squadron. He flew 36 missions over Germany and received the Air Medal with five oak leaf clusters and four Bronze Stars. Frederick retired as a real estate broker, and moved from Wauseon to Englewood, where he resided 26 years. He was a member of the Reformed Community Church in Venice, Fla., and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10178 in Englewood. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Lemon Bay High School sports programs.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rachael Wolf of Englewood; one daughter, Melanie Alkema of Englewood; two sons, Charles F. Wolf of Ada, Ohio, and Frederick E. Wolf Jr. of Englewood; two sisters, Bonnie Shaw of Defiance, Ohio, and Shirley Graf of Wauseon; two brothers, Chester Wolf of Akron, Ohio, and Richard Wolf of Wauseon; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Englewood Community Funeral Home, with the Rev. Arnold Rumph, pastor of Reformed Community Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Venice Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Englewood Community Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Englewood, has been selected to handle arrangements.

Damon Earl Bowzer, 55, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital in Port Charlotte. Arrangements are by National Cremation Society of Port Charlotte.

John R. Eisenmann

John Robert Eisenmann, 45, of Punta Gorda Fla., died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, in Punta Gorda. Arrangements are by ICS Cremation Society Inc. of Harbour Heights, Fla.

Thomas E. Pease

Thomas Evan Pease, 50, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at home. Arrangements are by ICS Cremation Society Inc. of Harbour Heights, Fla.

William R. Riederich

William R. Riederich, 74, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at Bon Secours Place. Arrangements are by National Cremation Society of Port Charlotte.

James A. Massolio

James A. Massolio, 46, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003.

He was born icon March 10, 1957, in Evergreen Park, Ill., to John and Charlotte Glymbacki Massolio. He had lived in this area for the past 35 years. Jim was a very giving and loving person who will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his wife, Denise M. Massolio; daughter, Kelsie Massolio of Port Charlotte; his mother, Charlotte Massolio of Port Charlotte; one sister, Charmaine Helms of Crystal River, Fla.; and three brothers, John (Jane) Massolio Jr. of Brandon, Fla., Donald Massolio (Jeanine Gonsalves) of Venice, Fla., and William (Linda) Massolio of North Port, Fla.

A memorial service will celebrate Jim's life at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, in the Punta Gorda chapel of Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, 635 E. Marion Ave.

Charles D. McCaughey

Charles Douglas McCaughey, 81, passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at HQM Nursing Home after a long illness.

He was born icon Jan. 10, 1922, in Berwyn, Pa., the son of Mattie (Robinson) and E. Steward McCaughey. Doug graduated from Berwyn High School. He served three years in the Signal Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. Mr. McCaughey worked 37 years for Western Electric in the Philadelphia area. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte. Mr. McCaughey was a member of the National Woodcarvers Association. He was known locally as a very talented carver and had recently had a display at his church which received high praise.

Mr. McCaughey is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mabel (Davis) McCaughey; a daughter, Elizabeth (Betsy) Comfert; son, William McCaughey; and grandsons, Ian Miller, Kevin McCaughey and Brian McCaughey. He was preceded in death by a brother, E. Steward McCaughey Jr.; and two sisters, Eleanor Lewis and Catherine LaBarre.

There will be a memorial service for friends and family 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte, 2230 Hariet St., Port Charlotte.

George F. Neuner

George F. Neuner, 74, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2003.

He was born icon July 25, 1929, in East Brunswick, N.J., and moved to this area in 1989 from South River, N.J. Mr. Neuner retired as a manager for Mason-Dixon Lines in New Jersey. After retiring to Florida, he worked at Publix in North Port for 10 years. For many years he was the head of the advisory board for the Northwest Charlotte Community League. He was a member of the Construction Industry Licensing Board for Charlotte County, and also sat on the board of directors for the Royal Palm Chapter of A.A.C.A. car club in Murdock, Fla.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Arlene Neuner; son, Allen of Somerville, N.J.; daughter, Penny Danino of Port Charlotte; grandson, Tommy (Shana) Danino of Punta Gorda, Fla.; and sisters, Evelyn Ford of Port Charlotte and Audrey Murphy of East Brunswick.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Attn: Memorials, P.O. Box 21475, St. Petersburg, FL 33742.

Marie L. Rifino

Marie L. Rifino, 77, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003.

Born April 2, 1926, in Venice, Italy, to Joseph and Ida (Miotto) Rotelli, she worked as a respected legal secretary for 35 years. She moved here in 1985 from Staten Island, N.Y., with her husband, Joseph. Mrs. Rifino was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte.

Mrs. Rifino is survived by her two daughters, Maria Gordon of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Paula Bensaull of Staten Island; her mother, Ida Rotelli of Port Charlotte; two grandchildren, Jason and Sara Bensaull, both of Staten Island; and her brother, Lionel Rotelli of Staten Island. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, in 2001; and a brother, Rudolph Rotelli.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, 5200 Indian Springs Road, Punta Gorda, Fla. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the funeral home, with entombment to follow at Charlotte Memorial Gardens.

Patricia J. Anderson

Patricia Jean Anderson, 68, of Rotonda West, Fla., passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at her Charlotte County residence.

Mrs. Anderson was born icon March 17, 1935, in Davenport, Iowa, to Anthony and Emma (McCrellis) Raymond. She was a full-time homemaker and a busy mother of three children. Pat and her husband, Dean, moved to Englewood, Fla., in 1998 from Cicero, Ind. She was a member of the Epsilon Sigma Omicrom Book Club and Rotonda West Women's Club, T.O.P.S. Chapter 462 of Englewood and the Red Hot Mamas of Rotonda West.

She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Dean William Anderson; daughter, Karen Anders of Fishers, Ind.; sons, Mark of Mooresville, Ind., and Scott of Kokomo, Ind.; five grandchildren, Shannon Smithwick, Thomas Anderson, Abigail Anders, Nikolas Smay and Alyssa Anderson; and one great-granddaughter, Victoria Smithwick.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood Chapel, with the Rev. Jennifer L. Turick, pastor of Community Presbyterian Church, officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Gulf Pines Memorial Park cemetery in Englewood.

Wayne Hawkins

Wayne "Randy" Hawkins, 45, of Nocatee, Fla., died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, in Nocatee.

Mr. Hawkins was born icon June 27, 1958, in Fort Pierce, Fla., and moved to Arcadia, Fla., in 1968 from Sarasota, Fla. He was a tile setter who owned his own company. He was a member of Moose Lodge 1327 and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his mother, Lillian B. Hawkins of Nocatee; a daughter, January Hawkins of Venice, Fla.; a stepson, John Glinatsis of Nokomis, Fla.; a brother, Johnny E. Hawkins of Nocatee; three sisters, Cynthia Drymon of Arcadia, Sandra Lawson of Nocatee and Cheryl Hawkins of Nocatee; three grandchildren, Tristan Daniels, Quentin Wharton and Madison Wharton; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with funeral services at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsboro Ave., Arcadia.

Julia M. Baker

Julia M. Baker, 95, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at Life Care Center of Punta Gorda. Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home, Punta Gorda Chapel.

June D. Grimm

June Dorothy Grimm, 74, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003.

She was born icon Feb. 10, 1929, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Fredrick and Caroline Gresser. She retired as a secretary and came to this area in 2003 from North Carolina. June enjoyed boating, needlework, playing games and casinos.

She is survived by a son, Glenn R. "Grimmis" (Donna) Grimm of Port Charlotte; brother, Fredrick (Doris) Gresser of Breezy Pointe, N.Y.; granddaughters, Kristina Grimm of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Traci Datello and Tarin Datello, both of Port Charlotte, Tiffani D'Antoni and Tammi Anastasio, both of Staten Island, N.Y.; great-grandson, Anthony Anastasio of Staten Island; four nephews and a niece; several great-nephews and great-nieces; and beloved dog, Terry.

Warren K. Wise

Warren Kenneth Wise, 83, of Englewood, Fla., died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, in Centennial, Colo.

He was born icon Nov. 2, 1920, in Canastota, N.Y., to Adam and Catherine (Osterhout) Wise. Warren served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. He worked 40 years for AT&T and retired as a test board supervisor. He moved from Saratoga Springs, N.Y., to Englewood, where he lived 21 years. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and was one of the founders of the bingo game program. He was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Survivors include his two sons, Richard A. Wise of Centennial and Christopher A. Wise of Englewood; one sister, Eleanor Wood of Westerly, R.I.; and two grandsons, Jeffery and David Wise, both of Centennial.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at Englewood Community Funeral Home, 3070 S. McCall Road, Englewood. Funeral liturgy will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, with the Rev. Bart Larkin officiating. Burial will be at Venice Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Venice, Fla.
