Noah L. Wylie

Noah L. "Bud" Wylie, 79, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Nursing Care Center, Port Charlotte.

He was born icon March 20, 1922, in Illinois City, Ill., and moved to Port Charlotte in 1976. A veteran of World War II, he was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He retired from the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Postal Service.

His wife, Florence, preceded him in death. Surviving are his special friend, Lorraine Beil; special nephew, Ron Morrison and wife, Jackie; a niece and several nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5 in the Port Charlotte Chapel of Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, 2405 Harbor Blvd. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Entombment will be private at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 12734 Kenwood Lane SW, Suite 39, Fort Myers, FL 33907.

Robert Coleman

Robert Coleman, 74, of North Port, Fla., passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital, Port Charlotte, Fla., following an extended illness.

He was born icon July 24, 1927 in Detroit, Mich., and lived here since moving in 1980 from Taylor, Mich., when he retired from the Chrysler Corp. as a foreman in the Trenton Engine Plant following 32 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Coleman is survived by his wife of 29 years, Patricia A. Coleman; three daughters, Peggy Suzanne Barrett of Wyandotte, Mich., Sally Ann (Marty) Coleman-Yensch of North Port and Deborah Lynn (Stephen) Gross of La Grange, N.C.; four sons, Charles John (Teresina) Coleman of North Port, Robert Joseph (Barbara) Coleman of North Port, Richard Edmund (Brenda) Coleman of Ocala and Archie (Lynne) Coleman of North Port; sister, Mildred (Howard) Fuller of Riverside, Calif.; brother, John (Carol) Coleman of Mount Clemens, Mich.; 20 grandchildren, Dawn, Jason, Kyla, Matthew, Jordan, Jacob, Miranda, Danielle, Nickoli, Eric, James, Joshua, Patrick, Stephanie Lynne, Stephanie Kay, Courtney, Nicholas, Deborah, Jennifer and Melissa; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Stella Neverovich Coleman, a brother, Charles Coleman and a granddaughter, Faith.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, 5200 Indian Springs Road, Punta Gorda, with Burial to follow in Charlotte Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680 North Canton, OH 44720.

Dorothy V. Kifer

Dorothy V. Kifer died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at age 87.

She was born icon in Jeannette, Pa., on March 23, 1915. She was the supervisor of the decorating department for Westmoreland Glass in Grapeville, Pa., where she worked for 15 years.

After she retired in 1982, she was a seasonal resident of La Casa in North Port, coming from Pittsburgh, Pa. She was a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in North Port. Dorothy was a life member of the La Casa Grandmothers Club and a charter member of the La Casa Stars. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Lodge 69 in Jeannette, Past Matron of the Amaranth Lodge in Jeannette, and a member of the Fanny Ringer Missionary Guild of the United Church of Christ in Jeannette.

Family members include her husband of 20 years, Robert Kifer of North Port; two sons, Fred G. Wensel (Patti) of LaVerne, Calif., and the Rev. Larry T. Wensel of North Aurora, Ill.; a daughter, Carol Wensel Ailes (Dave) of Irwin, Pa.; a stepson, Daniel H. Kifer (Marlene) of Greensburg, Pa.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband, Grant D. Wensel.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in North Port. A memorial service in Pennsylvania will be held at a later date. The family requests donations be made to the St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, 5550 Sumter Blvd., North Port, FL 34287. Farley Funeral Home, North Port chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Blanca E. Hansell

Blanca E. Hansell, 85, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Feb. 15, 2002.

She was born icon June 17, 1916, in Nicaragua, to the late Ramon and Francisca (Madrigal) Sanchez. She moved to this area in 1997 from Los Angeles, Calif. She was a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Blanca was preceded in death by her first husband, Rodrigo Huete. She took much pride in caring for her family whom she loved very much.

Blanca will be greatly missed by her husband of 23 years, Robert Allen; daughters, Hazel Huete-Rosenbusch of Washington, D.C., Bianca Huete-Langley, Carolina Huete-Lehman, Rosalia Huete-Zarmakoupis and Lucia Huete-Gish, all of Los Angeles; son, U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. (Ret.) Rodrigo J. Huete of New York; stepson, Dr. Robert (Susan) Hansell of Punta Gorda; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial Mass in celebration of Blanca's life will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.

Clyde E. Woodman Jr.

Clyde E. Woodman Jr., 81, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Feb. 15, 2002.

He was born icon in Kansas City, Mo., on Aug. 11, 1920, to Clyde and Esther (Tullis) Woodman Sr.

Mr. Woodman was a chemical engineer for Dupont, from where he retired in 1980. He moved to Punta Gorda from Pearland, Texas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of St. Andrews South Golf Club, and Isles Yacht Club. He graduated from Kansas University and was a member of the ACACIA Fraternity.

Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Marjorie of Port Charlotte; three daughters, Diane (Ken) Plum, Martha Woodman and Robin (Mike) Sims; five stepchildren, Bruce Tollefsen, Tom (Beth) Tollefsen, Martha Tollefsen, Marilyn (Jerry) Sinn and Ken (Laura) Calson; grandchildren, Rebecca (Subesh) Ghose, Jeffery Sims, Albert and Andy Tollefsen, Greg (Cindy) Sinn, and Jana Sinn; brothers and sisters, Marjorie Coulter, Arthur (Frankie) Woodman, Ruth (Lloyd) Ellis, Doris (Paul) Kipp and Richard (Janice) Woodman.

There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238. Kays-Ponger Funeral Home, Punta Gorda Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mathilde Reiter

Mathilde Reiter, 84, of North Port, Fla., died Feb. 15, 2002, at Whispering Sands Care Center in Venice, Fla. Funeral arrangements are by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, Punta Gorda, Fla.

Mary F. Wahl

Mary F. Wahl, 73, of Punta Gorda. Fla., died Feb. 15, 2002. Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.

Troy W. Bloyd

Troy W. Bloyd, 82, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Feb. 3, 2002, at Mariner Health Care, Port Charlotte.

Troy was born icon April 20, 1919, in Hoopeston, Ill., to William Thomas and Daisy B. Judd Bloyd. He married Vera M. Hawthorne on April 20, 1942, in Hoopeston. Mr. Bloyd graduated from John Greer High School in Hoopeston. He was a retired grocer, having been in business in Hoopeston for many years. He had resided in Florida for the past 18 years. He was a member of the Hoopeston Lions Club and the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police. He did volunteer construction work for Camp Assurance at Georgetown. He enjoyed woodcraft and fishing.

He is survived by his daughters, Sherri (Martin) Counterman of Port Charlotte, Debbi (Jon) Whiteley of North Port, Fla.; grandson, Aaron Counterman of Port Charlotte; brothers, Glenn (Margaret) Bloyd of Hoopeston, Thomas (Grace) Bloyd of Forest, Va., and David (Tammy) Bloyd of Omaha, Neb.; and a sister, Ermine (Stan) Boughton of Sanford, N.C. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera, on Jan. 7, 2002; a daughter, Linda; a brother and a sister.

Funeral service is at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at Hamilton-Orr Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles E. Sturgill officiating. Burial will be at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston. Visitation is from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Camp Assurance, P.O. Box 18, Georgetown, IL 61846. Arrangements are by Hamilton-Orr Funeral Home, Hoopeston.

Flora I. Cormier

Flora I. Cormier, 94, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Feb. 3, 2002, in Port Charlotte, Fla.

She was born icon July 7, 1907, in Spring Hill, Nova Scotia, to Charles and Elizabeth (McDonald) Burton. She moved to Florida in 1992 from Waltham, Mass., where she retired from the J.L. Thompson Company as a rivet inspector with more than 20 years of service. She was of the Catholic faith.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Menelli of Punta Gorda; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. One daughter, Ann Freeman predeceased her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at San Antonio Catholic Church, with the Burial to follow at Royal Palms Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238. Kays-Ponger/Royal Palms Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel is handling arrangements.

Stanley B, Johnston

Stanley B, Johnston, 83, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Feb. 2, 2002.

He was born icon July 5, 1918 in Brilliant, Ohio, to the late Joseph and Mabel (McGrew) Johnston. He came to this area 22 years ago from Warren, Mich. He retired from General Motors after 18 years as a special machine builder. He had been a toolworker since he was 17 years old. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, Elks, and Friendship United Methodist.

Stanley will be greatly missed by his wife of 62 years, Margaret; daughter Patricia (Mark) Matthews of Sparta, Mich.; and three grandchildren.

Memorial donations in Stanley's honor may be made to Friendship United Methodist Church, 12275 Paramount Drive, Punta Gorda, FL 33955. Arrangements are by Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services.

Harriett H. Kindrew

Harriett H. Kindrew, 85, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002 in Punta Gorda.

She was born icon Oct. 19, 1916 in Orange Township, Iowa. Mrs. Kindrew moved to Punta Gorda from Ankeny, Iowa in 1969.

She had been a cosmetician with Eckerd Drug in Punta Gorda, retiring in 1978.

Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte A. Rice of Punta Gorda, Fla.; a son, William C. Orris of Sacramento, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Cindy Toy of Arcadia, Fla.; six grandchildren; Vicki Rice, Becky Jones, Scott Rice, Greg Orris, Erica Kelly and Kevin Watts; 10 great-grandchildren also survive.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002 at the Punta Gorda Chapel of Kays-Ponger Royal Palm Funeral Home with the Rev. L.B. Baggett officiating. Inurnment will be later at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens. Cremation arrangements by Kays-Ponger Royal Palm Funeral Home, Punta Gorda, Fla.

Kathryn Rose Stefanik

Kathryn Rose Stefanik, 85, of Port Charlotte, Fla. died Feb. 2, 2002.

She was born icon June 27, 1916, in Cleveland, Ohio, and moved to this area in 1982 from Clearwater, Fla. Mrs. Stefanik was retired and a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte.

Survivors include one daughter Judy Walz of Sugar Land, Texas; two sons, John of Atlanta, Ga., Steven of Port Charlotte; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Stefanik was pre-deceased by her son David.

Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2002 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte. Memorial donations maybe made to St. Jude Hospital for Children, First Jude Place, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 300, Memphis, TN 38148-0552

Granville B. Wray

Retired Army Command Sgt. Major Granville B. "Joe" Wray, formerly of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Jan. 28, 2002, at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Ala.

He was born icon Aug. 26, 1929, in Leaksville, N.C., and moved to Port Charlotte after retiring from the military where he worked as a dispatcher for the Charlotte County Sheriff's Department in Englewood.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Marianne, of Montgomery; daughter and son-in-law, Mariana and Timothy Mahnesmith and grandchildren, Alexandra Nicole and Brandon Paul of Prattville, Ala.; daughter, Angela and grandchild, Vienna Isabella of St. Petersburg, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Elaine Wray of Townsend, Va.; brother and sister-in-law Downie and Carolyn Wray of Reading, Pa.; brother and sister-in-law, Delano and Laura Wray of Marion Station, Md.; ;sister and brother-in-law Betty and Al Burke of Hampton, Va.; sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Chuck Lombardo of O'Fallon, Ill.; numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Helga and Glen Bowling of Deridder, La.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Feb. 11, at Arlington National Cemetery, with full military honors. A life that touches others will always live forever. We will miss him deeply. Arrangements are by Prattville Memorial Chapel, Montgomery.

Daniel William Zatkalik

Daniel William Zatkalik, 74, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002 at Englewood Community Hospital, Englewood, Fla.

Born on Dec. 29, 1927 in Bridgeport, Conn., to Stephen and Emilia (Mackovicky) Zatkalik, he had been a resident of Englewood for six years, coming from Fairfield, Conn. Mr. Zatkalik worked for the Post Telegram in Bridgeport in the composing room as proofreader and layout designer, for 43 years and retired in 1988. He was a member of the SPEBSQSA, and was a member of the Coastal Chords Men's Barbershop in Bridgeport for 27 years and the Lemon Bay Chord Company in Englewood for six years. Mr. Zatkalik was also a member of the Fun Chorus of Englewood. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Englewood.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years: Shirley (Anderson) Zatkalik of Port Charlotte; two sons, Kenneth W. and Keith E. Zatkalik both of Burlington, N.C.; one brother, Stephen Zatkalik of Englewood,; two nieces, Judith E. Hennessey of Snyder, N.Y., and Nancy E. Smith of Purcellville, Va.; and two great-nephews, Stephen and Carl Kahler III., both of Springfield, Ohio.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 6465 Mayport St., Englewood, FL 34224 in memory of Mr. Zatkalik. Englewood Community Funeral Home has been selected to handle arrangements.

William A. Jones

William A. Jones, 74, of Yulee, Fla., passed away Feb. 4, 2002, in Williston, Fla.

He was a native of Nassau County and made his home in Yulee for the past 16 years, coming from Arcadia, Fla. He was a Baptist, a Merchant Marine, and a member of The Southern Fisheries Association. Most recently he was self-employed as a commercial fisherman in the shrimping industry. As a Merchant Marine he served in Oceangoing Service during World War II and as such was recognized by the United States Coast Guard as a member of the armed forces.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Marguerite Jones; three daughters, Mary Ellen Coppola of Baltimore, Md., Royalyne Davis of New York City, N.Y., and Donna Sue Thomas of Arcadia; two sons, William K. Jones of Fernandina Beach, Fla., and Charles Jones of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Betty Jones of Fernandina Beach and Myrtle Lee Raulerson of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Vernon Jones of Fernandina Beach and Ralph Jones of Fort Myers, Fla.; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Grave side services will be held Feb. 9 at Chester Cemetery, located at the intersection of Chester and Blackrock Roads in Yulee, with Rev. Al Janney officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations in Mr. Jones memory be made to Hospice of the Tri County, 624 North Main St., Chiefland, FL 32626. Arrangements are by Green Pine Funeral Home and Cemetery, Yulee.

Marjorie A. Bryant, 81, of Holland, Mich., and Punta Gorda, Fla., died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at her winter residence in Punta Gorda. Services will be held in Michigan at a later date. Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory, Punta Gorda Chapel.

Ruth C. Skultety, 101, of Chino Valley, Ariz., and formerly of Port Charlotte and North Port, Fla., died Jan. 31, 2002, in Arizona. Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Frank Wheaton

Frank Wheaton, 92, of North Port, Fla., formerly of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Jan. 30, 2002. Arrangements are by National Cremation Society of Port Charlotte. National Cremation Society.

Ruth Alexander

Ruth Davidson Alexander, 87, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at Charlotte Harbor Healthcare, Port Charlotte.

Born Dec. 31, 1914, in Pittsburgh, Pa., she moved from Pittsburgh to Port Charlotte in 1982. Ruth graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College with a bachelor's degree in liberal arts. She was a secretary for Pittsburgh Theological Seminary for many years. She was a member of the Mendelssohn Choir, Sweet Adelines, and Order of Eastern Star, all in Pittsburgh, Pa. She was also past secretary for the Port Charlotte Kiwanianne Club of Port Charlotte, and held many volunteer positions at First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte.

She is survived by her loving husband, Malcolm; two daughters, Marilyn Jean Davidson-Quatro of Youngstown, Ohio, and Constance Ruth Davidson of Elkton, Ore.; two brothers, Joseph (Vivian) Khouri of Murrysville, Pa., and Dr. John (Mary Louise) Khouri of Port Charlotte; two grandchildren, Deborah Elaine Lowry and Michael Richard Quatro, both of Youngstown; and three great-grandchildren, Sarah Jean Lowry, Scott Davidson Lowry and Steven James Lowry, all of Youngstown.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte. The Rev. Myles W. MacDonald will officiate. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Charlotte/DeSoto Chapter, P.O. Box 494708, Port Charlotte, FL 33949; or to a favorite charity. Arrangements by Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel.

Arthur A. Homan

Arthur Allen Homan, 85, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Tuesday, Jan. 22, at his residence.

He was born icon Sept. 16, 1916, in Chicago, Ill., and moved to this area 22 years ago from Aurora, Ill. He was a retired vice president of National Brush Company in Aurora; a member of First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte; and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He loved golfing and was a wonderful father who loved his family.

He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth M. Homan of Sarasota, Fla., and Karen H. Tweed of Bolivar, Mo.; a son, Donald M. Homan of New Prague, Minn.; two sisters, Helen Ahlbeck of Port Charlotte and Edythe H. Grimes of Evanston, Ill.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte. The Rev. Ruggles Constant will officiate.
