Bernhard "Bernie" Emil Walck
Bernhard "Bernie" Emil Walck, 87, born April 14, 1922 in Wheatfield, N.Y., to Emil Frederick Walck and Esther Natalie Beutel, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2009 in the care of his family members at his daughter, Sharon's home in Green Cove Springs, Fla. He grew up in the Niagara Falls area. He graduated from Capital University and Trinity Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. Bernhard served churches in the New York, Ontario, Canada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Montana and California. During his stay in Montana, he also served as civilian chaplain to the United States Air Force radar base at Opheim, Mt. Bernhard was married
to Florence Evelyn Pepper in 1943. This union lasted for 52 years. Four children were born to this union, Sharon, Cassandra, Deborah and Rebekah. Since his retirement, Bernhard had been a volunteer chaplain at the hospital in Orange Park, Fla., Homewood Village in The Villages and served as Elder of Heart at Leesburg Assembly of God. During his stay in Florida, Bernhard renewed his acquaintance with a former parishioner, Allie Taylor Coombes. This led to their marriage on April, 19, 1998 at the Leesburg First Assembly of God where they held their membership for years. Bernhard is survived by his wife, Allie; children, Sharon Lloyd of Green Cove Springs, Fla., Cassandra Casto of Mansfield, Ohio, Deborah Williams of Delaware, Ohio, Rebekah Strickland of Greensboro, N.C.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. David L. Moriarty
David L. Moriarty, 77, of Wildwood, Fla., passed away, Thursday, July 23, 2009 at the home of his daughter, Susan and her husband, Jerry Griffin of Columbia, S.C. He was born June 3, 1932 in Montpelier, VT to Louis Daniel and Mildred A. (Jaquith) Moriarty, who are now deceased. He attended North Bennington High School, graduating in 1950 and attended Vermont Agricultural School, graduating in 1951. Dave joined the Reserve Branch of Military Service in Bennington, VT, 204 ORD.CO in 1951. He joined the Army in 1953 and was assigned to Fort Dix for basic training. Dave served overseas during the end of the Korean Conflict, ending up in Guam to finish up his service, retiring as a Staff Sergeant. Dave was a member of the Lake County War Veterans Honor Guard, joining in 1996. Dave married
Mary Margaret Zullo on August 7, 1954 in Bennington, VT. After working on several area farms, Dave and his wife opened a Mobil Station in N. Bennington and called it North Village Mobil, which they ran from 1963 to 1968. Dave then went on to Bromley Ski area in Manchester, VT and became a mountain manager for a period of time. He and his wife then began a concrete placement business and named it Moriarty and Sons, Inc. which they ran for 28 years and retired in 1993. They bought a condo in Wildwood, Fla., in 1979 and have been living there full time since 2004. He is survived by his wife, Mary M. Moriarty of Wildwood, Fla.; sons, D. Michael Moriarty and Fiancé, Helene of Albany, NY, Tyler J. Morse of Colorado, Justin Daniel of Bennington, VT, Thomas W. and daughter-in-law, Amy of Bennington, VT. Jon P. and daughter-in-law, Karen of Eagle Bridge, NY; grandchildren, Kelby Erin, Keenen Jon, Delaney Marie, all of Eagle Bridge, NY; daughter Susan and son-in-law, Jerry Griffin of Columbia, SC, grandchildren MaryKate Carly and Mitchell Moriarty Griffin of Columbia, SC; sister, Lorraine Mattison and brother-in-law, Richard of Shaftsbury, VT, brother-in-law and close friend, Robert Marsh of Bennington, VT and several nieces and nephews. Charlotte Ann Rue, 72, of Eustis went to be with our Lord and Savior on November 6, 2007. She passed peacefully at her home. She was born in Burton, Michigan and moved to Florida in her early childhood. She was a school bus driver in St. Johns and Lake Counties for over twenty years. Family was her life. She enjoyed hunting, fishing and card playing along with bingo. She was preceded in death by her father – James Lang and mother – Ruth Hunt. DAVIS, ELIZABETH M. Elizabeth (“Betty”) Davis passed away on December 13, 2007. Born in Slate Hill, New York on February 27, 1928, she moved to Central Florida while in high school and resided in this state for most of the remainder of her life. An avid FSU fan, she was talented at needlework and other crafts when younger and had developed a passion for bingo in the last year. Betty Davis was preceded in death by her parents, William and Violet Creeden, a brother, Albert Creeden, a sister, Lois Roberts, her husband of over fifty-nine years, Eugene (“Buddy”) Davis and their youngest child, Ronald Davis. She is survived by a brother, Bill Creeden, a sister, Jean Cooksey, her daughters, Linda Davis and Sharon (Richard) Haight, her son, Bob (Bonnie) Davis, her daughter-in-law, Cindy Davis, as well as by her grandchildren, Jason and Paul Haight, Ashley and Lindsey Davis, Shannon (Andy) Waller and Jessica and Laura Davis. She is also survived by two great-grandsons, Aiden and Logan, and by identical twin great-granddaughters expected to be born in the next week. Betty Davis was a devoted and caring wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother whose family was always the most important thing in her life. She will be greatly missed but wonderful memories of her will live in our hearts forever. Mrs. Edna Lucille Aldrich 93 of Eustis passed away on Monday, December 31, 2007. Born in Madison, Michigan she moved to Eustis in 1947 from Adrian, MI, she was the former owner of the Sunburst Cue Company of Eustis. Mrs. Aldrich was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Eustis having served as a Sunday School Teacher, President of the Women’s Society of Christian Service and as a former District Officer for the Orlando District of the United Methodist Church. Her memberships included; the Gardenia Garden Club, the Azalea Garden Club of Eustis, Eustis Garden Club (Co-Founder and Past President) the All States Tourist Club, the Eustis Women’s Club (Past President), Eustis Art League and the La-Co Campers of Lake County. Mrs. Aldrich was also active at the Eustis Senior Center, was an avid Bridge player, a violinist with the Central Florida Orchestra and was the 1991 Orange Queen for the Eustis Washington’s Birthday Festival. Mrs. Aldrich and been a writer of inspirational articles for the Eustis Lake Region News titled “Thoughts”. She was predeceased by her husband Maynard in 1994 and her daughter Sarah Irene (Sally) Green in 1980. Survivors include her son El Dean (Catherine) Aldrich Sr., and Maxine A. (Gerald) Green both of Eustis, eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Frank J. Buldra, 89, of Tavares, passed away on Saturday, January 23rd, 2010. He was born in Corning, NY on January 17th, 1921. He moved to Tavares in 1987. Frank was a retired postal clerk for the US Postal Service and a veteran of World War II and Korea, having served in the Army Air Corps and retiring from the Air Force as a Chief Warrant Officer. He enjoyed the hobbies of building model airplanes, ships and trains. Frank also loved his homeland of Czechoslovakia and played their native music on his accordion. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Elva; daughter, Shelley Dail of Tavares; son, Frank Buldra II and his wife, Patricia of Watertown, NY; step-daughter, Judy Gayle Covington of Georgetown, KY, step-son, James Partain and his wife, Sylvia of Winter haven, FL, as well as 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Frank will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who served his country well. Friends were invited to call for visitation on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 from 12:30 - 1:00 pm. Edmond Henry Jenkins Sr. 78 of Leesburg passed away on Tuesday February 2, 2010. He was born in Sparrows Point, Maryland and moved here in 1978 from Clewiston. Mr. Jenkins was a retired Chief Petty Officer from the United States Coast Guard having served for twenty years, he also was a diesel mechanic and worked for the United States Sugar Company in Clewiston and Southern Freightways of Eustis, additionally he worked as an installer for St. Louis Heating and Air Conditioning of Eustis. He was a Baptist, a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War and was a member of the United States Coast Guard Chiefs Association. Mr. Jenkins is survived by his wife Marilyn, his children Norma Jean Thames of Eustis, Elizabeth (William) Adkison of Umatilla, and Charlene Lynn Cochenet of Wildwood, his siblings, Charles L. Jenkins Jr. of Rockledge, Florida, Robert R. Jenkins of Germany, Patrick E. Jenkins of Cocoa, Florida, Marjorie J. Runnels of Rockledge, nine grandchildren and twenty three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Beverly Ann Brandenburger in 2007, his son Edmond Jenkins Jr. in 1995 and his granddaughter Danielle Lynn Cochenet-Kiernicki in 2009. Services will be held in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on Monday at 11 AM with Rev. Darrell Reed officiating, interment will follow in Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis. Charles William Levi, 84, of Mount Dora, Florida, passed away at Florida Hospital - Waterman in Tavares, Florida on Wednesday, February 3, 2010. He was born in Addison, New York, son of Charles and Rachael Levi, and first moved to Venice, Florida and then to Mount Dora in 1997. Mr. Levi was a veteran of WWII, having served his country in the United States Navy. He owned and operated Levi TV in Addison, New York for many years. Mr. Levi began operating Levi TV, then known as Hubbs Electric, in the early 1950's and introduced the first television sets to many local homes in the Steuben County area. He was a member of Addison Union Lodge 118 F.&A.M., Tuscarora Woodhull O.E.S. and William Greengrass Post 730 of the American Legion also of Addison. Mr. Levi was an Episcopalian. Mr. Levi is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary, his daughter, Lauren K. Levi of St. George Island, Florida, his sister, Augusta L. Haire and his brother, Gordon H. He was a veteran of the Korean War, volunteering for the Paratroopers on Sept. 14, 1950, Company B, 187th Regimental Combat Team, ten days after his brother, Corporal Gene D. Totten, was reported MIA. Floyd received an Honorable Discharge on Sept. 14, 1953. The Medals he received were the Parachutists Badge; Occupational Medal (Japan); Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars; United Nations Service Medal; and Combat Infantryman Badge.
He began bowling in 1960 at Medina Lanes in Medina, Ohio where he maintained a 202 average. He was a Junior Bowling Coach. His bowling career included the American Bowling Congress Championships, Cincinnati; Akron Beacon Journal Classic; Toledo's Glass Bowl winning a new 1966 Chevrolet and over 200 trophies. Floyd participated in sport skydiving from 1967 - 1982 with 851 certified free falls; received a Jump Master rating and was an instructor from 1972- 1976 which included giving talks and demonstrations on the sport to different organizations, participated in various competition jumps in Ohio, PA, IN, and the U.S. Sport Parachute Competition in FL; member of the Skyhawk Sport Parachuting Club - in by air the first frog in a state frog jumping contest for both Gov. Rhodes & Gilligan of Ohio; received the Night Star Crest Recipient Award No. 645 as a member of the first ten- man-star formed at night in Ohio.
Floyd was a member of the Honor Guard of VFW Post 8087, Mount Dora, FL from 2000 - 2005. He played the bugle at Veteran Memorials and various ceremonies honoring all veterans. His interests in life also included horseshoes, photography, country music, fishing, pool, NASCAR and gardening. He was a life member of the VFW Post 8087, Mount Dora, FL, the Korean War Veterans Association (The Greybeards); Salaried Retiree Club of Ford Motor Cleveland Engine Plants and Pops Club - Skydivers over 40.
Floyd is survived by his loving wife, Deborah K., of 34 years; daughter Sabrina Gail (Douglas) Conner of Elyria, OH.; Sons, Brian (Sue) of Thorndale, TX; James (Cheryl) of Elyria, OH; grandchildren: Joshua, Andrew, Nathan, and Virginia Sue; great-granddaughter Angel; brother Daniel (Lita) of Va. Beach, VA; sisters Betty (William)Bowles of Peytona, W.VA., Janice (Harrison) Jackson of Seth, W. VA as well as loving nieces and nephews. Floyd was predeceased by brothers James, William and Gene (MIA). A Funeral Service for Floyd will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 11:00AM at Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel, Eustis with Pastor Charles Ashley officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00AM until 11:00AM. Emma Della Williams, 87 of Jacksonville passed away in Orange Park on Sunday January 31, 2009. She was born in Reidsville, Georgia and was a retired fashion model. Mrs. Williams was a Methodist and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 103 of Mount Dora. She moved to Jacksonville from Reidsville Georgia but had been a longtime resident of the Mount Plymouth - Mount Dora area. Mrs. Williams is survived by her children, Glenn (Brenda) Williams and Donna (David) West both of Jacksonville, her grandchildren Scott Williams of Schenectady, New York and Devon and Dawn Reater both of Jacksonville, and many nieces and nephews. Ceremonies will be held in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on Thursday February 4th at 11 AM with Rev. William Boyer officiating, interment will follow in Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis. Albert R. Crawford 75, of Eustis passed away on Sunday February 14, 2010. He was born in Hollywood, Florida and moved here in 1939. He was member of Lake Eustis Christian Church, one of the founders of the Lake County Airboat Club, a longtime blood donor and active campaigner for Senator Jim Glisson. Mr. Crawford was a retired plasterer and served his country in the Florida National Guard. He is survived by his wife Ethel, they had been married
57 years, his children Carl Crawford and Carol Crawford both of Eustis, a grandson Michael Wayne Nichols Jr. and great-grandson Preston Michael Wayne Nichols both of Eustis and his brothers Freddie and Robert Crawford both of Eustis.
David L. McGonigal
June 3, 1941 - February 18, 2010
David L. McGonigal, 68 of Tavares passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2010. He was born in Eaton Rapids, Michigan and moved to Lake County from Kissimmee in the 1960s. Mr. McGonigal was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Eustis having served on the Vestry, in the Choir and with the St. Thomas Players. He held a Masters Degree from the University of Florida and was a Guidance Councilor with the Lake County School System. He is survived by his wife Bonnie, his children Scott (Cindi) Chavis of Tangerine, Sean (Lori Perry) Chavis of Umatilla, Christopher (Kelly) McGonigal and Katie McGonigal of Tavares, his mother Margaret McGonigal of Umatilla, brother; Ed (Mary) McGonigal of Umatilla and Jim (Yvonne) McGonigal of Ft. Lauderdale, and his grandchildren, Justin Chavis, Elizabeth Chavis, Chais Chavis, Caitlyn Chavis, Charles Chavis, Cheyanne Perry and Taylor McGonigal. Services were held in St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Eustis, on Saturday, February 27, 2010.

Donald E. Nicholson 90 of Eustis passed away on February 18, 2010. He was born in Nora, Nebraska and moved here in 1972 from Seminole County. He was self employed in the home improvement industry and was a Methodist. Mr. Nicholson served his country during WWII in the United States Navy Seabees. He is survived by his wife Patricia, his children, Gary Nicholson of Eustis, Frank Nicholson of Niota, Illinois, Dona Garcia of Jacksonville and Barbara Gilpin of Niota, Illinois, six grand children and five great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on Saturday, February 27, 2010. Rev. William Boyer officiated. The final resting place will be Lakeside Memory Gardens in Eustis.

Mrs. Patricia J. Mallace, 80, of Altoona, FL, passed away on Thursday. February 25th, 2010. She was born in Oswego, New York to Barry and Ella (Sayer) Johns on March 16th, 1929. She retired as the school secretary from Prince of Peace Lutheran Church School in Hollywood, FL. Patricia and her husband, Jerry moved to this area from Hollywood, FL in April of 1984. She is a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Eustis and was involved in the Women's Guild at the church. She is remembered by her husband, Jerry (Jerome); son, Barry Robert Mallace and daughter and son in law, Linda Sue and Barry Robert Drovie. Wanda W. Machamer, 90, of Eustis passed away on Saturday February 27, 2010. She was born in Castile, New York and moved here in 1975 from Subic Bay, Philippines.
Mrs. Machamer was a member of St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church of Eustis and Ladies Sodality of the Church, was a self employed beautician, a Veteran having served in the U.S. Army during WWII and a member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary of Leesburg. She is survived by her husband of over 50 years Ernest J., her children Ernest J. (Rita) Machamer Jr. of Umatilla, Margaret J. (John) Brennan of Eustis. Her stepchildren, Patricia A. Gittins of Yuma, Arizona, James E. (Jenny) Machamer of Eustis, Karl E. (Edie) Machamer of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Joseph M. Machamer of Mount Dora, Frances M. (George) Gerst of Grand Island, a sister Mary Lucas of Buffalo, New York, 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was held in St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church of Eustis at 2 PM Thursday, March 4, 2010, with Fr. Francis X. Zammit officiating. Interment will followed in Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis. A visitation was in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on Wednesday, Mazrch 3, 2010, from 5 until 7 PM, with a Rosary at 7 PM. Mrs. JoAnn R. Baldwin, of Eustis, FL, passed away on Monday, March 1st, 2010 at the age of 77 years. She was born in Le Mars, Iowa and moved to central Florida from Canon, CO in October 2005. JoAnn was a homemaker. She also worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Mossville, IL and at Bernardi’s Frozen Foods in Toluca, IL in food prep. JoAnn loved to walk with the USA Walking Club and playing cards in the Women’s Card Club. She enjoyed shopping and dancing, as well as fishing and shooting. She was Lutheran by faith. JoAnn is remembered by her husband of 33 years, Jerry; sons, John (Janet) Rinker of Pontiac, IL, Mike (Marilyn) Rinker of Barrington, IL and David (Dawn) Rinker of Longwood, FL; a daughter, Sherri (Rob) Rinker-Thomas of Apopka, FL; sister, Trish (Don) Grauer of Hermiston, OR as well as 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Family and friends gathered for the viewing on Thursday, March 4, 2010 from 9:00 – 10:00 am with the funeral ceremony starting at 10:00 am, all in the funeral home chapel.
