Genevieve H. Derr, 90 of Tavares passed away in Pensacola on Sunday January 18, 2009.
She was born in Flint, Michigan and moved here from Flint, Michigan in 1980. Mrs. Derr was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Eustis and the American Association of Medical Assistants. She is survived by her husband Walter, son Gary of
Marmaduke, Arkansas and a daughter and son in law Barbara Jean (Ed Odum) Wagner of Pensacola, five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Mary Carolyn Dille

Mary Carolyn Dille, 74, of Eustis passed away at home on February 27, 2009. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and moved here from Clayton, North Carolina in 2004. She attended St. Patrick Catholic Church of Mount Dora and was a retired Office Manager for her family's construction business. Mrs. Dille was a Volunteer for Cornerstone Hospice. She is survived by a son Jeff Dille of Eustis, two daughters, Leslie Ellis of Orlando and Charlotte Stankiewicz of Clayton, North Carolina, eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass was held in St. Patrick Catholic Church of Mount Dora at 9 AM on Friday, March 13, 2009. Earl R. Fagg

Earl R. Fagg, 75, of Grand Island, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2009.
He was born in Forrestville, Wisconsin and moved here in 1990.
He was employed by the State of Wisconsin until retirement. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW 8087 of Eustis, American Vets of Lake County and formerly of the Eustis Elks and Moose Lodges.
He was a veteran of the U.S.Navy and U.S.Airforce serving during the Korean War.
He was survived by his beloved wife Jean; brother William Fagg of Apopka, and sister Vivian Fabrincia of Kansas.
A memorial service was held in the Sunlake Club House on Wednesday, October 7, at one o'clock P.M.
Darla Diane Farley

Darla Diane Farley, 50, passed away at home on June 22. Darla was a wonderful, loving wife of 29 years, one of the best mothers on the planet, and a truly unique woman. She was born to Bill and Barbara Honaker in Huntington, W.V. on Aug. 14, 1958, and graduated from Huntington East HS. She and husband Barry married
in July 1980 and moved to Lake County, where Darla worked to help open the Belk's in Lake Square Mall before joining the Private Industry Council as a financial assistant. She committed all of her energies to her family after over a decade of service to Lake County.
Darla was a great academics, basketball, baseball, bowling, band, and cross country mom for Bryan, and was an avid Clay Aiken fan. Widely known as one of the most enthusiastic of all the Claymates, Darla attended approximately 35 concerts and galas, and was a supporter of the Bubel/Aiken Foundation, which provides autistic children opportunities for summer camps. A great friend to many, Darla was a terrific listener and she loved to travel, cruise, and read all about Clay and her fellow Claymates on the web. Darla is survived by husband Barry, son Bryan (Nikki), brother Greg (Sue). No services occured, and the family requested that any remembrances be sent to the Bubel/Aiken Foundation (www.bubelaiken.org) or the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
Maude Frady

Maude Frady, 74 of Umatilla passed away on Monday September 21, 2009. She was born in Dothan, Alabama and moved here from Northwest Florida in 1944. Mrs. Frady was a member of the First Baptist Church of Umatilla. She is survived by her husband Arnold, her sons, Jerrold, Jeffery and Joey all of Umatilla, two brothers, Charles Hall of Umatilla and Leamon Hall of Atlanta, Georgia, two sisters, Mozelle Edge of Mount Dora and Evie Larkin of Tampa. Mrs. Frady was predeceased by a daughter, Janet Burcham in 2001. Funeral services will be held from the graveside in Lakeside Memory Gardens; Eustis at 10 AM Thursday, September 24, 2009 with Rev. Brooks Braswell officiating.

Charles Arnold Gammenthaler, 89 of Eustis passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2009. He was born in Fredericksburg, Texas and moved here from Orlando in 1997. Mr. Gammenthaler was a Chef for Florida Hospital South and Florida Hospital Altamonte; he was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Umatilla, a Master Mason and member of the Grand Lodge of Texas, a Veteran having served in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII and a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife Esther, his children, Janice Elaine (Benny) Deaton of Murphy, North Carolina; Sammy Arnold (Loretha) Gammenthaler of Tangerine and Robert Allen (Pamela) Gammenthaler of Collegedale, Tennessee, his grandchildren, Robert Allen Gammenthaler II of Ft. Worth, Texas; Charles Mitchell Gammenthaler of Walla Walla, Washington, Douglas John Gammenthaler and Scott Davis Gammenthaler both of Collegedale, Tennessee; his step grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Deaton of Sylva, North Carolina and Kevin Forrest Deaton of Ghent, Kentucky; a sister Elizabeth (Reginald) McDougall of Harper, Texas; and his sister-in-law Blix Gammenthaler of The Woodlands, Texas Services were held in the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Umatilla at 11 AM Friday November 13th,2009. Friends called from 10 AM until the funeral hour. Interment with Military Honors by the Lake County Honor Guard followed in Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis. Evelyn S. Garland, 50 of Eustis passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2009. She was born in Morgantown, West Virginia and moved here form North Augusta, South Carolina in 1994. Evelyn was a Baptist and a Catalog Supervisor for the J.C. Penny store in the Lake Square Mall of Leesburg. She is survived by her son Matt of Austin, Texas, her father Philip E. Sampson of Grand Island, and her siblings, Daniel E. Sampson of Irmo, South Carolina and Mary S. Taylor of Newnan, Georgia. Memorial Services were held in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on Monday, January 4, 2010 at 2 PM. A visitation followed the service. The family requests those desiring direct memorials to Cornerstone Hospice.
Carl Getford

Clifford Carl Getford, 52 of Astor and Eustis passed away from a massive heart attack on Friday May 15, 2009. He was born in Eustis and lived in Lake County all his life. He was an Inspector for the Florida Department of Agriculture, a Christian, and cattleman, a member of the Eustis Moose Lodge and a well known Golden Retriever breeder. He is survived by his sisters, Lana Joan Getford of Thomasville, Georgia and Mary Sharon Vezina of Eustis, several nieces and nephews and his beloved JoJo, Odie, Dovie and Lil JoJo. Funeral services was held from the graveside in Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis at 11 AM Thursday, May 21, 2009 with Harley "Chuck" Evans officiating.
Joan Getford

Lana Joan Getford 59 of Thomasville Georgia lost her four year battle with breast cancer on Tuesday, October 6, 2009. She was born in Eustis and moved to Thomasville from here in the 1990s. She operated the "Bridges of Hope" for troubled women in Georgia. Joan is survived by her son Al Foster of Thomasville, three grandchildren, her sister Mary Sharon Getford of Eustis and her beloved Jessie Mae. Memorial services will be held in the United Methodist Church on Broad Street in Thomasville on October 17th.
Bethany Anne Falco Gillespie

Bethany Anne Falco Gillespie, 73, of Eustis passed away on May 18, 2009. She was born in Traverse City, Michigan and moved here in 1980. She was a Presbyterian, and a former musician for the First Presbyterian Church of Eustis. She had been a member of the Lake Concert Band and the Hawthorne Orchestra, an avid golfer and owned and flew her own airplane. She had worked with Lennon E. Bowen, Attorney of Eustis as a Paralegal. She is survived by her husband John, her children, Michael Mahn of Traverse City, Lori Schuh of Harrison, Michigan, Robert Mahn of Auburn, Michigan, Shara Duke of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, Donna Wik of Elk Mound, Wisconsin and Patrick Mahn of Orlando, her step children, Marcia Krause of Charlotte, North Carolina, Karen Boltz and Cabot, Pennsylvania, and Mary Ramsey of Arlington, Ohio, and twelve grandchildren. Mrs. Gillespie was taken to Fox Funeral Home in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania (724-352-1133) for final services and interment in Bull Creek Cemetery.
Jan Paxton Gnann

Mrs. Jan Paxton Gnann, of Tavares, passed away on Thursday, October 22nd, 2009 at the age of 72 years. Born in Lenoir City, Tennessee, she moved to the Central Florida area in 1971 from Miami with her husband, Elbert, who preceded her in death after 52 years of marriage. Jan retired from sales in the fashion industry. She was a member of Family Bible Church in Eustis. She loved crocheting, gardening, scrabble and enjoyed gambling. Jan was a self educated woman who gave selfless love to her family and was a wonderful mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved people and animals and was kind to all those she met. She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Linda Coffey of Tavares and Teresa Lachut of Eustis; sons Elbert R. Gnann, Jr. (Kathleen) of Eustis, Shawn Michael Gnann of Tavares and Brent Awalt of Eustis who she loved like a son; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as her two dogs, Bobo and Dusty. Friends were invited to the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on October 26, for a visitation. Funeral services were held on October 27, in the Chapel. Interment followed at Seminole Springs Cemetery.
Joyce Neely Gooch

Mrs. Joyce Neely Gooch, of Mount Dora, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2009 at the age of 89 years. Born in Detroit, Michigan, she moved to the Central Florida area in 1965 from Arcadia. She and her husband, Burt, were owners of Fisherman's Bait & Tackle Shop in Eustis. She was a member of the Community United Methodist Church of Fruitland Park and belonged to the Busy Bees of Fruitland Park. She was pre-deceased by her husband Burt, who passed away in 1975 and by two children, Arnold and Marjorie. She is survived by her children Gary Neely (Naomi) of Davenport, FL; Paul Neely (Rayanne) of Flat Rock, MI; Cynthia McRae (Tim) of Leesburg, FL; Kirk Neely (Terri) of Ponte Vedra, FL; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, November 5, 2009 in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel, Eustis. Rev. Mike Fordham officiated. Interment followed at Greenwood cemetery in Eustis. The family requests memorials to Kiva of Mount Dora, 505 E. 9th Ave., Mount Dora, FL 32757
Roy R. Gregory

Roy R. Gregory, 89 of Eustis passed away in Mount Dora on Monday July 27, 2009. He was born in Gratton, Virginia and moved here from Seymour, Tennessee in 1988. Mr. Gregory was a long time resident in Abingdon Virginia. He retired as a Line Inspector from Appalachian Power Company in 1977 after 32 years of service. Mr. Gregory served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He attended the Abingdon Baptist Church of Abingdon, VA. Mr. Gregory was very active in many of the youth activities including baseball, football, basketball and scouts in Abingdon. He also umpired high school baseball for many years in Southwest Virginia. Mr. Gregory was survived by his wife Faye, his sons Charles R. Gregory of Johnson City, Tennessee, Gary Lee Gregory of Leesburg, Florida, Michael D. Gregory and wife Joy of Cape Coral, Florida, George R. Gregory and wife Dianna of Knoxville, Tennessee, Roy Scott Gregory and wife Keiko of Lompoc, California, and Mark Alan Gregory of Leesburg, Florida, twenty grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Mr. Gregory was predeceased by his daughter Mattie Ellen Gregory on April 10, 2000. Memorial services were held in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on Saturday August 1, 2009 at 10 AM with Rev. William Boyer officiating.

Stanley Grzyl, 86 of Umatilla passed away on December 10, 2009; he was born in Poland and moved here from Antioch, Illinois in 1984. He was retired from GTE, served in the Polish Army during WWII and was a member of St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church of Eustis. He is survived by two stepsons, Dennis P. Skrypt of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, and Ralph Grunkowski of Frisco, Texas. Memorial Services were held in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 10 O'clock AM with Monsignor Manuel Fernandez officiating.

Tosca Guerrini, 76 of Eustis passed away on Friday, July 24, 2009. She was born in Montefegatesi, Italy and moved here from New York City in 1990. She was a devout and active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Mount Dora. Mrs. Guerrini is survived by her husband Oreste, a cousin Josephine Santi of Sanford, and several nieces and nephews including Dr. Celestino (Christy Lynn) Santi of Sanford, and Emma Shea and Francesca Santi. The Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Patrick Catholic Church of Mount Dora at 9 AM Wednesday July 29. Interment was in Montefegatesi Cemetery, Lucca, Italy.
Malcolm Hayden Hebb

Malcolm Hayden Hebb, a gentleman of extraordinary genius, passed away peacefully at his home in Eustis, Florida on August 11, 2009 at the age of 99. He was predeceased by his lovely wife, Marion Evers Hebb. He was born in Marquette, Michigan in 1910 and moved with his parents, the noted physicist, Thomas Carlyle Hebb and Evelyn Hayden Hebb, to Vancouver, British Columbia, where in 1931, he won the Governor General's Gold Medal in Arts and Science as head of the graduating class at the University of British Columbia. In 1936 at Harvard University, he graduated summa cum laude with a Ph.D. in Physics. He was also the recipient of a Traveling Fellowship from Harvard. With the award from the Fellowship, Dr. Hebb traveled abroad to Holland where he continued his studies in mathematical physics. Upon his return from Holland in 1938, Dr. Hebb went on to teach physics at Duke University in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina and, during World War II, he headed the Theory Group at the Harvard Underwater Sound Laboratory where he developed novel ideas in the new field of electro acoustics, which militarily were applied to submarine detection. Dr. Hebb joined the General Electric Research Laboratory staff in 1949 and became Manager of the General Electric Physics Research Department in Schenectady, New York in 1952. A brilliant and noted mathematical physicist, he had many publications in the field of solid state physics and, in the world of science, his insight and organizational skills were recognized by industry and government alike. He always liked to say that "freedom of inquiry is the very essence of research." While at GE, Dr. Hebb was also involved with research at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory (The Knolls) in Schenectady, NY. In the 1950s, the Knolls' purpose was to conduct nuclear research and development, including the design of a naval propulsion plant that would use nuclear energy rather than fossil fuel to power ships and submarines. In 1960, Dr. Hebb was appointed to Eisenhower's President's Science Advisory Committee's ad hoc six-man Panel on Man-In-Space. The group was tasked with monitoring NASA's activities and its goals and manned space missions in the foreseeable future to include Mars and the Moon. On November 1, 1963, the title and degree of Doctor of Science (honors' causa) was conferred upon Dr. Hebb by his alma mater, the University of British Columbia. He retired from General Electric in 1968 and he and his wife relocated to the warmer, sunnier climate of Lake County, Florida. Although Dr. Hebb had no children, Uncle Malcolm, as he was fondly known to all, was surrounded by many adoring nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, all of whom were deeply saddened at the loss of such an exceptional and exceedingly generous person. Dr. Hebb was survived by his younger sister, Dorothy (Trotty) Hebb Miller of Atlanta, Georgia. Following cremation, Dr. Hebb's ashes were interred next to those of his wife, Marion in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge Massachusetts. The family extended warmest thanks to the Home Companions of Lake County Inc, Florida and, in particular, Kellie Keith for the many years of quality life and care she and her caregivers provided to Dr. Hebb. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations were made to the charity of choice.

Roy Lee Henson, 24 of Leesburg passed away on Friday, August 14, 2009. He was born in Leesburg and lived there all his life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Dora and had been employed in the food service industry. Mr. Henson was survived by his father B. J. Henson and a brother Nathanael, both of Leesburg. Services were held in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel at 3 PM Friday August 21,2009. Dr. Alan J. Holden, Pastor officiated. Friends called from 2 PM until the funeral hour.
