Cameron Walker Sr., 91, of Sanford, FL, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2006.

G.R.M. (Bob) Pearson
G.R.M. (Bob) Pearson, 80, of Mount Dora, FL, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2006. He was born to the late Gerald Hamilton Jeffery Pearson and Mary Agnes Mackenzie on March 8, 1925 in Ottawa, Canada.

Bob attended Severn School, Severna Park, MD and was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD (Class of 1947).

A veteran of the Vietnam War, Bob retired as a Naval Aviator in 1969 and he and his family moved to Mount Dora. Bob and his wife, Ermyne opened “The Drawer LTD” and have been active downtown merchants for the past 35 years.

Bob served the community in varied capacities including the Mount Dora City Council and the CRA. He was past chairman of the Mount Dora Craft Fair and Mount Dora Art Festival, and a member of the Retired Officers Association.

Bob is survived by his wife, Ermyne; daughters, Bootie Pearson and Suzie Roberts; and his devoted canine companions Precious and Bridget.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, June 23, 2006 at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Dora, FL with Reverend Robert I. Maurais officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Women for Hospice, P.O. Box 1741, Mount Dora, FL 32756.

Julius T. Jasas, 85, of Mount Dora, FL, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2006. He was born to the late Adam and Anna Jasas on December 2, 1920 in Chicago, IL. Julius is survived by his loving caregivers Robb and Mary Louise Mathias of Mount Dora, FL. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 17, 2006 at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Dora, FL with Father Rod Soha as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Pine Forest cemetery in Mount Dora.

Edward Scott James
Edward Scott James, age 37, passed away June 13, 2006, in Mount Dora, Florida. Scott was born on December 17, 1968, in Baytown, Texas, at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital and was christened at Trinity Episcopal Church.

Scott was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at age 5 and was Baytown’s MD poster boy during the 1976 fundraising campaign. He was a loving, happy, compassionate person who lived life to the fullest of his ability. Scott focused only on the positive aspects of his life and refused to talk about the negative. He graduated from Ross S. Sterling High School in 1987 to a standing ovation.

Scott is survived by his father, Lynn S. James, of Baytown; his mother, Martha Gutierrez, of Mount Dora, Florida; two sisters, Elizabeth Ailles of Baytown and Mary Marcuccio of Richmond; and his fraternal grandmother, Sue James of Austin.

A memorial service will be held for Scott on Friday, June 30, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 5010 north Main Street, Baytown, Texas 77521.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Scott’s memory to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, National Headquarters, 3300 East Sunrise Drive, Tucson, Arizona 85718 (88-HelpMDA).

Burial will be at Mission Burial Park South in San Antonio on Monday, July 3, at 10:00 A.M.

Edward Scott James, 37, of Mount Dora, FL, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2006.

Kendall R. (Casey) Jones
Kendall R. (Casey) Jones, 87, was born in Graysonia Arkansas, September 30, 1918. Casey attended the University of Florida School of Forestry and its Military program of R.O.T.C. In 1941 he went directly from the University to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to serve in the U.S. Army Field Artillery during WW2. He was stationed at times at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and Camp Hale, Colorado. He served as a Major in the Pacific War Theatre and was in the occupying forces that first went into Japan in 1945. In 1946, he came home from Japan, retired from active military service and moved to Mount Dora, Florida, where he became a merchant.

He has co-owned over the years, Jones Brothers Checkerboard Feed Store, Jones Brothers Oil Company, Florida Grove Implements, Lake County orange groves, Leesburg Tire and Battery, Leesburg Transfer and Storage, Marion Tire Company, and the Gooney Bird Marina as well as being the landlord of a string of commercial rentals.

Casey was active in community affairs and has served over the years as President of the Mount Dora Lions Club as well as Zone Chairman, Commander of the American Legion, member of the Forty and Eight, Chairman of the Merchants Division of Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Lake County School Board, the Silver Lake Golf and Country Club, Eustis Elks Club, Mount Dora Masonic Lodge, Shrine Lodge, served as past patron of the Easter Star, President of the Lake Joanna Improvement League, member of the Lake County Republican Executive Committee and a member of the Mount Dora Yacht Club where he worked with the community’s children’s sailing group. He built the vehicle used to transport their pram boats to regattas all over the state. He also built one of the first pairs of water skis used in this area. His home on Lake Joanna was the site where many adults and children learned to ski and casting. He donated inner tubes to children each summer for use in their water activities.

Casey was an avid huntsman, belonged to several hunting clubs and hunted widely over the United States. His elk in Wyoming failed to be registered by Boone and Crocket as the largest bagged because the horns on both sides were not identical (atypical). The mounted head was gifted to the Elks Lodge in Eustis. He also hunted deer, bear, antelope, quail, dove, pheasant, and many other game.

Casey is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jean Baumberger Jones and his daughter, Dianne and her husband Paul Guthrie. Also surviving him is his granddaughter, Jan and her husband, Ron Gustafson, along with their daughter (Casey’s great-granddaughter) Kendal, and his other granddaughter, Kelly and her husband, Jack Raley, with their two children) Casey’s great-grandson and great-granddaughter, Colby and Morgan. He is also survived by his sister, Kathryn Jones Cain of Mount Dora and may nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Clifton B. and Alberta VanArsdel Jones, and two brothers, Lilburn “Clifton” of Newport News, Virginia, and Dale of Leesburg, Florida.

Memorial Services for Casey will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2006, at 4:00 P.M., at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home, Mt. Dora Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Lake and Sumter, Inc. 12300 Lane Park Road, Tavares, Florida 32778.

James Randell Morgan
James Randell Morgan, 38, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2006. He was born to Geraldine Sauls, on December 30, 1967, in Hialeah, FL.

James moved to Mt. Dora from Fort Lauderdale in 2002. He was employed by the BJ Ranch and Cattle Company.

He is survived by his mother, Gerri Sauls; his life partner of five years, Will Setzer, of Mt. Dora; sister, Lynda Padgett, of Lake City; daughter, Jillian Morgan, of Hollywood; brother, Charles “Snaper” Squier; nephew, Daniel James Gomez and special friends Bear Smith and Chrissy Chapman.

Memorial Services for James will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2006, at 10:00 A.M., at the Allen J. Harden Cremation Center, in Eustis.

In lieu of Flowers please bring teddy bears to the service to be given to the Mt. Dora Police Department.

Larry Dale Wilbanks
Larry Dale Wilbanks, 50, of Astatula, FL, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2006.

Kenneth R. Pfirsch
Kenneth R. Pfirsch, 79, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2006, at his residence in Mt. Dora, FL. Ken was born on November 22, 1926 in Bucyrus, OH, to the late William G. and Marquerite (Rogers) Pfirsch.

He married Jane E. Rieck, on July 19, 1953, at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Findlay, OH, and she died on May 29, 1987. He married Grace Clymer on January 17, 1989 and she survives along with one son: Matthew R. (Angie) Pfirsch, of Findlay, OH; two daughters: Barbara Ann (Michael) Bell, of Charlotte, NC, Jennifer Lynn (Kenneth) Young, Mooresville, NC; step daughter: Tina Clymer (Craig) Washka of Granville, OH; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His brother, Robert J. Pfirsch passed away last year.

Kenneth graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1944 and Miami University in 1951. He is a US Army veteran and his memberships included: Sigma Chi Fraternity; First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Dora; Stumps International; Sanford Aero Modelers; Mt. Dora Yacht Club and Fostoria Power Squadron. He was a former member of First Lutheran Church, Findlay and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Jenera. He was past owner and President of Hancock Ready Mix and Tarbox-McCall Stone Co. and served on the Arlington Board of Education.

A memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home, Mt. Dora Chapel.

In lieu of Flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Lake and Sumter, 12300 Lane Park Road, Tavares, Florida 32778.

Charles Edward Brooks II
Charles Edward Brooks II, 89, of Mt. Dora, a long time resident, passed away on June 2, 2006. He was born to the late Charles Edward Brooks and Caroline Bennie (Pittman) Brooks, on January 29, 1917, in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

Ed was a veteran on the U.S. Army Air Corp, retired from wholesale auto parts sales, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, of Mt. Dora for almost sixty years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley C. Brooks and is survived by three sons, Charles Edward III, of Mt. Dora, Samuel C., of Sunset, LA, and James S. Brooks, of Mt. Dora; one sister, Irene B. Tomlin, of Roxboro, NC; fourteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Ed will be held on Monday, June 5, 2006, from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home, Mt. Dora Chapel. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at 11:00 A.M., at the First United Methodist Church, Mt. Dora, with Reverend Gary Upleger officiating.

Eleanor Jean Hayes, 82, of Mt. Plymouth, FL passed away on Monday, January 29, 2007. Eleanor was born on September 24, 1924 in Akron, Ohio. She is preceded in death by two sons, Toby Hayes and Mark Rayman. Eleanor is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Hayes Queen (Art) of Mt. Plymouth, FL; four grandchildren, Debi Wingerden of El Cajon, CA, Scott Blasio (Melissa) of Orlando, FL, Gidget Mallardi ( Dan) of Akron, OH and Toby Cooley (Stephanie) of Ocean Beach, CA; nine great-grandchildren, Michael, Joey, Bonnie Wingerden of CA, Zachary Blasio of Orlando, FL, Faryn Blasio of Akron, OH, Chloe Mallardi, Andrew Gesquirre of Akron, OH, Marina Tan of Tulsa, OK, and Mark Davis of Mt. Plymouth, FL. Hilda Mae Brock Dobrzanski
Hilda Mae Brock Dobrzanski, 85, died Thursday, January 25, 2007 in Mount Dora, Florida. She was previously a resident of Titusville, FL. She was born Dec. 18, 1921 in Springfield, Clark County, Ohio the daughter of Joseph Hidy Brock and Jessie Elliott Brock. Orphaned at an early age, her upbringing was assumed by close relatives, Mrs. O.R. Ladd and Mrs. D.W. Winebrenner, who nurtured her appreciation for history and the arts. During her early years in the farmland area of Ohio, she studied voice, piano and violin. Her talents were recognized repeatedly during her college years at Wilmington College, Wilmington, OH, where music was her major. She received many awards throughout Ohio for her accomplishments as a violinist. After graduation from college, Hilda began her career as an educator in the Cincinnati, Ohio school system. Later, in Miami, FL, she brought her love of music to the children in the Dade County Public Schools, as a music instructor and a teacher on several elementary levels. In the 1976 Bicentennial Year, she was honored by her fellow teachers as “Teacher of the Year”. She retired after thirty-one years of devoted educational service to the children of Florida. Mrs. Dobrzanski completed her graduate studies at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida, earning a Masters Degree in Elementary Education Administration. She became a member of the John Macdonald Chapter, NSDAR in Miami Springs and upon moving to Titusville, she became a member of the Indian River Chapter. Hilda was actively involved in DAR becoming Florida State Regent 1986-1988 and moving on to becoming Vice President General and Reporter General for NSDAR. Since 1950 she was an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi, a social and cultural service sorority, also “The D.R.O.V.E. #183”, the ladies auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Elks, Titusville and a member of the Indian River City United Methodist Church in Titusville. She was preceded in death by her sister, Rachael Brock Smith in 1997 and the Aunts that raised her. She is survived by her husband Anthony; sister, Helen Pope of Bloomingburg, OH; niece, Carol Cramer of Bloomingburg, OH; nephew, Clyde Cramer and wife Linda of Fairfield Glade, TN; 2 great nephews, Michael Ferguson of Washington Court House, Ohio and Rees Cramer of Chattanooga, TN; and close friends, Mary Lou and Harry James of Mount Dora, FL. A memorial service will be held at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home, 1800 N. Donnelly St., Mount Dora, FL 32757 at 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 28, 2007. Committal services will be held in Jeffersonville, OH later in the week. Robert O. “Bud” Grantham, Jr.
Robert O. “Bud” Grantham, Jr., 61, of Eustis, FL passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2007.
Bud was born on January 29, 1945 to the late Robert O. “Dude” Grantham, Sr. and Ruby L. (Quick) Grantham in Jacksonville, FL.
He attended Florida Military School in Deland, FL and graduated Mount Dora High School in 1963.
Bud was a U.S. Army Veteran. He served at the Homestead Testing Ground and at U.S. Army Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany. He was Heavy Equipment Motor Division Mechanic.
Bud was previously employed by the City of Mount Dora; Sprint Telephone Co.; Lake County Sheriffs Office; and Eustis Sand Co. He was the owner/operator of Bud’s Land Work for over 30 years.
A lifelong resident of Lake County, Bud actively worked with many fundraising efforts for event groups, political and family fundraisers for cancer patients; and other families in need. He was a member of the Lake County Airboat Club; Elks Lodge (Eustis); Jaycees (Mount Dora); and lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Dora. He currently attended the Eustis First Assembly of God.
Catherine Hanson stated, “Bud Grantham was a wonderful friend to Mount Dora and the East Lake County area. He was always ready and willing to contribute time and efforts for many community fundraising events. He will be dearly missed.”
Bud is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 40 years, Shirley (Couch) Grantham; son, Robert O. (Robb) Grantham III and his wife, Terina of Eustis, FL; daughter, Michelle R. Grantham and her fiancé, Keith Tidmore of Colbert, GA; sisters, Patsy Stephens of Eustis, FL and Sandie Gregory of Brooks, GA; godson, Tim Wolcott and his wife, Dodie of Umatilla, FL; grandchildren, Lindsey and Ivey Grantham, and many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews; brother-in-laws; sister-in-laws; cousins, and many, many friends, and community and business associates.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 19, 2007 at 11 A.M. at the First Baptist Church of Mount Dora with Rev. Larry Boone and Rev. Skott Jensen officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Forest cemetery in Mount Dora.
The Granthams will welcome friends at their home following the service.
