Joan F. McBrien, 81, of Sorrento, FL passed away on Friday, January 5, 2007. Joan was born on October 30, 1925 in Astoria, NY. She was a Registered Nurse in Long Island, NY before moving to the Central Florida area in 1974. Joan was a member of the East Lake Baptist Church, Sorrento, FL. Joan is survived by two sons, Keith of Oviedo, FL and Kenneth of Sorrento, FL; daughter, Karen Shackelford of Eustis, FL; and two grandchildren, Stephanie and Swan, both of Oviedo. Visitation will be held from 10 – 11 AM on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home Mount Dora Chapel with a Funeral Service immediately following at 11 AM. Reverend Ed Pike and Reverend Steve Brewer will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Sorrento Cemetery, Sorrento, FL.

Louise Briggs Byrd, 84, of Mount Dora, Florida, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2007.

Dale M. Zimmerman
Dale M. Zimmerman, 54, of Eustis, FL passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2007. Dale was born on May 3, 1952 in Peoria, IL to Doris Zimmerman and the late Richard Zimmerman and moved to the Central Florida area from Morton, IL in 1986. Dale graduated from Morton Township High School in 1970 and received his Bachelor of Science degree at Taylor University in Upland, IN where he also played football. Dale enjoyed all outdoor activities. Dale is survived by his mother, Doris Zimmerman; two sons, Joshua P. Zimmerman and Jason W. Zimmerman; Loving companion, Diane MaHoy; two brothers, Richard K. Zimmerman and Dennis W. Zimmerman; one grandson, Bryce W. Zimmerman. Calling hours for Dale will be held at from 11:00 – 12:30 P.M. on Monday, January 8, 2007 at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home Mount Dora Chapel, with a memorial service immediately following at 12:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in Dale’s name to the American Heart Association, 9900 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. N, St. Petersburg, FL 33716-3801, Phone: (727) 570-8809.

Dr. Jack Edwin Farnham
Dr. Jack Edwin Farnham, 75, of Mount Dora, FL passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2007. Dr. Farnham was born on September 26, 1931 to the late Irma (Kinney) Farnham and Edwin Farnham in Rutland, VT. Dr. Farnham spent his youth in Bennington, VT and graduated from Bennington High School in 1949. He received a BA degree from the University of Vermont in 1953 and a MD degree in 1957, also from the University of Vermont. As part of his medical training, Dr. Farnham served his Internship and Residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. His Internal Medicine Fellowships were completed at Lahey Clinic in Boston, MA and at the University of Vermont in Burlington, VT. Dr. Farnham proudly served his country as a United States Air Force Medical Corp. Captain from 1957-1962. He was the Chief of Medicine 3565 at USAF Hospital from 1960-1963.
Dr. Farnham practiced Internal Medicine at Chelmsford Medical Associates from 1963 – 1969. He founded Allergy Immunology Associates in 1969 in Chelmsford, MA which developed into a four physician practice with additional offices in Nashua, NH and Andover, MA. He did extensive research in airborne pollen and mold in New England and was the author of many articles in national medical journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine.
In 1990, Dr. Farnham retired from practice to attend the Harvard School of Public Health, specializing in Occupational Medicine. In 1992, he earned a Masters of Public Health Degree from Harvard University where he was named Class Orator.
In 1994, he accepted a position at the University of Texas Health Center in Tyler, TX, where he cared for patients and taught medical students and residents. Dr. Farnham retired from the University in 2000 as Professor of Occupational Medicine and Allergy. After retirement, he served as medical consultant in Environmental cases for engineering, legal and transportation firms.
Dr. Farnham was Board Certified in Allergy-Immunology and Occupational Medicine. His Fellowships include The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology; The American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology; and The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
Dr. Farnham was President of the Massachusetts Allergy Society, Vice President of the New England Allergy Society, an active member of the Texas Society of Allergy, and the Florida Society of Allergy.
At the time of his retirement, Dr. Farnham had active medical licensures in VT, MA, NH and TX. He and his wife Anne had a winter home in Mount Dora, FL and a summer home on the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee near Laconia, NH.
For several years, Dr. Farnham was a Deacon at Central Baptist Church in Chelmsford, MA. He was Co-Chair of the Evangelism Committee at Marvin Methodist Church in Tyler, TX. Most recently, he was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Mount Dora, FL.
Dr. Farnham was a member of Kiwanis, the Lawn Bowling Club of Mount Dora, and the Mount Dora Yacht Club.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anne (Lyman) Farnham; two daughters, Jean F. Cleary and Carol F. Ferraris (Aaron); son, James Farnham (Amy); and five grandchildren, Caitlin, Shannon, Michael, John, and Maxfield.
He is loved and will be greatly missed by his family and a host of friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 6, at 3 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Dora, FL with Dr. Thomas J. Biery officiating.
Services will also be held on Saturday, January 13, at 2 P.M. at Central Baptist Church in Chelmsford, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association, 5526 Arlington Road, Jacksonville, FL 32211-5216 or the American Heart Association, 9900 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. N, St. Petersburg, FL 33716-3801, Phone: (727) 570-8809.

John (Jack) H. Wilde
CW02, USMC, Retired, John (Jack) H. Wilde, 81, of Mount Dora, FL passed away on Wednesday January 3, 2007. John was born on April 16, 1925 in Philadelphia, PA. He was a United States Marine for 30 years and proudly served his country during World War II and Vietnam. Mr. Wilde is survived by his Loving wife Jackie Wilde; son, John Wilde (Kellie) of Key West, FL; daughter, Janis Wideman (Jim) of Deland, FL; four grandchildren, John Wilde, III, Alicia High (Jessie), Christopher Gollogly, and Celeste Wideman; great-granddaughter, Courtney High; and great-grandson, Nathan High. Visitation for John will be held from 9 – 11 AM on Friday, January 5, 2007 at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home Mount Dora Chapel. Funeral service will follow at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. Memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to Hospice of Lake and Sumter, Inc., 12300 Lane Park Road, Tavares, Fl 32778.

Mary Jo Wysong, 84, of Mount Dora, FL passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2007. No services are scheduled.

Van Zant
Van Zant, Samuel E., 92, passed away at his home in Mount Dora, FL on Tuesday, March 6, 2007. Sam was born on a farm in Boone County, Arkansas on September 20, 1914. He had a distinguished career in the United States Marine Corps from 1934 until his retirement as a CW04 in 1961. He served in China before WW II, the Pacific Island campaigns in WW II and the Korean War. Sam met and married Helen Hill of Jacksonville, NC after WW II. They married in 1949 and had a long happy marriage. Helen preceded Sam in death by 2 years. After USMC retirement, Sam and Helen raised their family in Colorado, a state they loved tremendously. They moved to Mount Dora in 1999 to be close to family and friends. Survived by 3 sons, Sam (Sharon) and Jim (Janet) of Denver, CO, Bob (Nancy) of Missoula, MT; seven grandchildren; many close relatives in the Mount Dora area, and friends across the country. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 12, 2007 at 2 PM at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home Mount Dora Chapel. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made in Sam’s name to Hospice of Lake and Sumter, Inc, 12300 Lane Park Rd, Tavares, FL 32778 or the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, 825 College Blvd, Suite 102, PMB 609, Oceanside, CA 92057.

Deloris Londos
Deloris Londos, 79, of Eustis, FL passed away on Monday, March 5, 2007. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at 2pm at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home Mount Dora Chapel.

Robert Royden Moxley
Robert Royden Moxley, 85, of Leesburg, FL passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2007. Mr. Moxley was born on September 4, 1921 in Greenwich, CT. Mr. Moxley was an Elementary School Teacher for many years. He served in the United States Army during the WW II conflict. He was also a member of St. Edward’s Episcopal Church, Mount Dora, FL.
Mr. Moxley is survived by his wife, Constance Moxley; one son, Richard R. Moxley (Linda) of Salem, CT; three daughters, Patricia Ann Blake of Sanford, FL, Aven Ruth Baral of Winter Springs, FL, Barbara Tighe of Del Ray Beach, FL; four grandchildren, Susan Lynch, Matthew Moxley, Robert Moxley, and Kimberly Baral; and one great-granddaughter, Abigail Lynch.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home Mount Dora Chapel. Memorial donations may be made in Robert’s name to St. Edward’s Episcopal Church General Fund.

Ivor C. Armistead
Ivor C. Armistead, 95, of Mount Dora, FL passed away Sunday, March 4, 2007, with his family by his side. Bud was born on September 16, 1911 in Columbus, Ohio, and spent much of his adult life in Ridgewood, NJ. He served as an officer in the Army during WWII, where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Bud worked as a Customer Engineering executive for IBM, from which he retired in 1971, after 33 years of service. He was known in his later years as a prolific amateur poet, a member of numerous local organizations including the Mount Dora Yacht Club, and a devout member of the First Presbyterian Church. Bud leaves behind his beloved wife of 24 years, Dorothy, two sons, Ivor Cary Armistead III of Boston, MA, and Tedford Armistead of Carlisle, MA, and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sally Armistead Leggatt. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 6th and McDonald St., Mount Dora. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Dora or to Hospice.

Colleen A. Keller
Colleen A. Keller, 78, of Eustis, FL passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2007. No local services are planned.

Austin L. Finan
Austin L. Finan, 89, of Mount Dora, FL passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2007. A long time resident of the community, Mr. Finan moved to Mount Dora with his wife, Patricia in 1982 following his retirement from St. Bonaventure University in Allegany, New York. A dedicated and well respected teacher, he was long remembered and admired by the many students he instructed and counseled over the 42 years he taught in the School of Business.
Mr. Finan was born in 1917 in New York City and attended Brooklyn Prepatory School and Columbia University, graduating in 1937. He taught at the City College of New York for two years prior to moving to Allegany, New York. Mr. Finan was married to the former Anne Regottie who predeceased him in 1971. They were the parents of five children who survive.
Mr. Finan was a veteran of World War II enlisting in the Navy in 1943 and serving on active duty for three years and in the Naval Reserve for thirty years retiring in 1977 with the rank of Lt. Commander. An avid and accomplished golfer since his teen age years, he once qualified for the US Open Championship at the age of nineteen.
Mr. Finan was a member of the Mount Dora Golf Association for over twenty years serving on their Board of Directors and as Vice President in 1987-1988. Prior to moving to the Country Club of Mount Dora in 2001, Mr. Finan resided for eighteen years at the Bunker Hill Condominium where he served on the Condominium Board of Directors for fourteen years.
Mr. Finan is survived by his wife, Patricia, as well as his five children. One daughter, Mary Wells of Wilmington, DE; four sons, John of New York City, NY, Daniel of Meridian, MS, Timothy of East Aurora, NY, and William of New Canaan, CT. He has ten surviving grandchildren; Elizabeth, Austin, Patrick, Peter, William, Margaret, Robert, Edward (Ted), Hallie and Daniel.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Mount Dora on Friday, March 9, 2007 at 1 pm, with a burial in St. Patrick’s cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lake and Sumter, Inc., 12300 Lane Park Rd, Tavares, FL 32778 or St. Bonaventure University.

Dr. Joseph Lee Boyle
Dr. Joseph Lee Boyle, 38, of Eustis, FL passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2008.
Joseph was born on October 26, 1970 in Pittsburg, PA to James Lee Boyle and Gertraud (Muller) Neuburger.
He moved to Eustis from Deltona in 2006.
He was self-employed as a Chiropractic Physician at First Health Chiropractic in Sanford, FL.
Joseph was a loving son, husband and father.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa A. Boyle of Eustis, FL; mother, Traudi Neuburger (Emil) of Mount Pleasant, PA; father, Jim Boyle (Sandy) of Altamonte Springs, FL; son, Christian Joseph Lee Boyle of Eustis, FL; daughter, Taylor Aubrey Boyle of Eustis, FL; step-brother, Gary Hockey (Renee) of Apopka, FL; step-sister, Gina Morgart (Shawn) of PA; nephew, Cody; nieces, Miranda, Ryleigh, and Emma; uncles, Tim and Doug; aunts, Colleen, Dominque, Irmi, and Mina; and 8 cousins.
Visitation will be held from 1-2 P.M. on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Faith World, 7601 Forrest City Road, Orlando, FL.
A funeral service will immediately follow at 2 P.M. Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Faith World, 7601 Forrest City Road, Orlando, FL.
Interment will follow at Oaklawn Park cemetery in Sanford, FL.

Norma L. Norton, 102, of Mount Dora, FL passed away on Monday, November 24, 2008. Services are pending.

James W. Hemby, of Mount Dora, FL passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2008. Services and interment will take place in Alabama.

Blanche Aniece Schopke
Blanche Aniece Schopke, 88, of Apopka, FL passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2008.
Blanche was born on July 27, 1920 in Plymouth, FL to the late Walter Neal Schopke and Linna Bryan (Pike) Schopke.
She was a lifelong resident of Plymouth, FL and worked at the First United Methodist Church of Apopka for 35 years.
She was of Baptist faith and was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
She is survived by her daughter, Linna Louise Weatherman of Apopka; grandson, Walter Driskell; step grandsons, James Kirsh Weatherman and Jeffrey Weatherman; and step great-granddaughter, Hanna.
Graveside services will be held at 10 A.M. on Monday, November 24, 2008 at Bay Ridge cemetery in Apopka.

Mrs. Alice Pauline Summersill, 74, of Lakeland, FL passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2008.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas W. Summersill and sister, Jean Collins.
She is survived by her son, James D. Summersill “Danny”; daughters, Paula K. Korff and Vicky R. Cannoy; sisters, Betty Pennington, Patricia Leininger, and Vivian Quattlebaum; brother, Jimmy Fort; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. on Friday, November 21, 2008 at Greenwood cemetery in Eustis, FL with Mr. Vernon Means officiating.

Tommy Abston, 53, of Leesburg, FL passed away on Monday, November 17, 2008.
Tommy was born on June 11, 1955 in Tennessee to the late John T. Abston and Dolly (Smith) Abston.
Tommy moved to Central Florida from Tennessee. He was employed by Winn Dixie in Leesburg and was a member of Silver Lake Community Church in Leesburg.
Tommy was a loving family man who was devoted to his daughter, Brittany and son, Brandon and had a passion for the outdoors and fishing with his son.
Tommy is survived by his wife of 22 years, Susan Abston of Leesburg; son, Brandon Abston of Leesburg; daughter, Brittany Abston of Leesburg; brothers, Gene Abston of Eustis and Freddie Abston of Sorrento; sisters, Ruby Findley of Apopka, Lilly Lee of Umatilla, Debbie Connolly of Sorrento, Linda Jones of Umatilla, and Vannie Rowe of Sorrento.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home in Mount Dora, FL.
A funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at Silver Lake Community Church in Leesburg with Pastor Jack Hood officiating.
Interment will follow at Lakeside Memory Gardens in Eustis, FL.

Lauretta A. Borkenhagen nee Broderick of Apopka, FL passed away November 16th at age 99.
She was born in Chicago, IL on July 31, 1909.
She was the wife of the late William H. Borkenhagen, M.D.; and mother of the late Jean (Paul) Diehl.
She is survived by her daughter, Karin (Adrian) Goffinet; granddaughter, Patricia; and great-grandchildren, Shannon and Aaron.
She was a member of the Society of the Little Flower of Jesus and lifetime member of the Women’s Auxiliary of Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, IL.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 P.M. on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home in Mount Dora, FL.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 9 A.M. on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Mount Dora, FL.
Interment will follow at Pine Forest cemetery in Mount Dora, FL.
