Ruby Edith Mosley, 92, Dunnellon, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at her residence.

She was born in Russell County, Va. She has wintered in Dunnellon for the past four years. She summered in Akron, Ohio.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Light House Pentecostal Church of God. She is survived by two daughters, Joan Deck, Easley, S.C., and Carolyn Scott, Dunnellon; one son, William L. Mosley, Jr., Akron, Ohio; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Peter Muller, 73 Citrus Springs

Peter Joseph Muller, 73, Citrus Springs, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, in Inverness.

He was born Sept. 1, 1928, in Bronx, N.Y., to Peter J. and Agnes Smith Muller.

He worked in management for Nynex Telephone Co. for 38 years and moved to the area from Levitown, N.Y., in 1987.

He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Citrus Springs.

Mr. Muller was a member of the Citrus Springs Golf Club and Inverness Elks 2522. He was president of Citrus Springs Civic Association.

He was married Sept. 2, 1950, to Loretta Heffeman Muller. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Heffeman Muller, Citrus Springs; four sons, Peter Muller, Huntington, N.Y., Richard Muller, Garden City, N.Y., Robert Muller, Huntington, N.Y., and Thomas Muller, Monroe, Conn.; one daughter, Virginia Pertola, Hempstead, N.Y.; two sisters, Eileen Game, Hicksville, N.Y., and Margaret Muller, New York, N.Y.; and 15 grandchildren.

Kelcie Priest, 83, Blairsville, Ga., died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, in Inverness.

She was born Nov. 1, 1918, in Treasure Island to Ed and Artie Potts Strickland.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, James Kipling “Kip” Priest, Inverness, and Edward Priest, Chassahowitzka; one daughter, GeorgeAnn Priest, Inverness; one sister, Edna Head, Homosassa; one granddaughter, Blairsville, Ga.; three other grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Joseph Zumpol Sr., 90 Inverness

Joseph R. Zumpol Sr., 90, Inverness, died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness.

He was born Jan. 8, 1912, in Lindenhurst, N.Y. to Joseph and Mary Zumpol.

Mr. Zumpol was a retired machinist for Grumman Aircraft. He moved to Inverness in 1998 from Largo.

He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Inverness, and a former member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Largo.

He was a life member of the Lindenhurst Volunteer Fire Department, serving 68 years.

Mr. Zumpol was preceded in death by his wife Vera Hirsch-Zumpol in 1990.

He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Zumpol, Inverness; three sons, Joe Zumpol, Inverness, Jim Steiner, Inverness, and Ray Zumpol, Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Theresa Losasso, Inverness, and Mamie Shormeyer, Lindenhurst, N.Y.; one brother, John Zumpol, Lindenhurst, N.Y.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Gertrude Anna Conner, 92, Floral City, died Monday, June 24, 2002, at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness. Born Dec. 20, 1909, in New York City, to William and Adeline Zachow, she moved to the area seven years ago from Issaquah, Wash.

She was a retired bookkepper with Atlas Welding, Tampa, for more than 14 years.

She was Lutheran.

Survivors include her son, James Conner of St. Petersburg; sister-in-law, Margaret Zachow of Floral City; and grandson, Michael Conner.

Michael ‘Mike’ Lewis, 41 Inverness

Michael “Mike” Lewis, 41, Inverness, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002. at his home.

Born Sept. 1, 1960, in Brooksville, he came to the area from Naples 10 years ago.

He was a former cook with Citrus Café for eight years. Survivors include his son, Jacob Lewis of Lake City; mother and stepfather, Margaret and David English of Hernando; three sisters, Beverly Theriac of Cumming, Ga., Ramona Alvarez of Naples, and Donna Carper of Procouis, W.Va.; several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles; and many friends.

Lester Schnitzer, 92, Inverness, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, in Inverness.

Born Oct. 14, 1909, in Lansdale, Pa., to Harry and Jenny Schnitzer, he moved to Ocala in 1999 from Devon, Pa., and then to Inverness in 2000.

He was owner of Schnitzer Brothers Contract Painting.

He was Presbyterian.

He also was a Mason and Optimist Club member.

Survivors include by his daughter, Barbara Lemond of Beverly Hills; son, Lester R. Schnitzer of Ocala; two brothers, Fred Schnitzer of Waco, Texas, and George Schnitzer of Philadelphia, Pa.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Virginia L. Brooks, 71, Beverly Hills, died Thursday, May 23, 2002 in Inverness.

She was born March 11, 1931 in Minneola, N.Y. to Raymond and Dorothy Byrd Brown. She moved to St. Augustine in 1982 from Matticuk, N.Y., and then to Beverly Hills in 1993.

She was a homemaker and of the Episcopalian faith.

Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Robert A. Brooks of Beverly Hills; two sons, Robert A. Brooks Jr. of Guam and Andy Brooks of St. Augustine; one daughter, Elizabeth L. Smith of Fitchburg, Mass.; one brother, Larry Brown of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Dorothy Quarltere of Margaretsville, N.Y., and Carol Buchanan of Shoreham, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Matthew Smith, Jeff Smith, Kay Smith, Tim Smith, Amber Lowe, Jacob Brooks, Emily Brooks and Chris Dantonio.

Frank S. Byczynski, 83 Inverness

Frank S. Byczynski, 83, Inverness, died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.

He was born Oct. 31, 1918 in Cheboygan, Mich., to Anthony and Julia Byczynski. He moved to Inverness in 1980 from Chatham, Mich.

Mr. Byczynski was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Mildred F. Byczynski of Inverness; two brothers, Edward Byczynski of Detroit and Jack Byczynski of Flint, Mich.

John Harrington, 61 Dunnellon

John P. Harrington, 61, retired USAF B-52 pilot and businessman, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala.

Born in Harrisburg, Pa., he moved to Dunnellon from Rapid City, S.D., with his wife in 1998.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, The Elks, The Retired Officers Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Order of the Daedalians.

In his own words, John “graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School as a mediocre student. He graduated without honors from Saint Bernard College in Alabama, where he played four years on the golf team.” After college, he joined the Air Force and flew B-52s, C-130s and Vulcan bombers, as an exchange officer with the Royal Air Force. He flew more than 300 missions in Vietnam. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he was a financial planner with USPA and IRA (now First Command) helping fellow officers and NCOs achieve financial independence.

Mr. Harrington was an officer and a gentleman. He loved his family and lived by the motto, “practice random acts of kindness and senseless beauty.” He was anything but a mediocre human being, and he will be missed dearly by the many who loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Joann of Dunnellon; sons, Patrick of Altus, Okla., and Timothy of McDonough, Ga.; sister, Eileen Abele of Naples; and grandchildren, Tiffany, John Truman, Sean and Natalie.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation in Mr. Harrington’s honor.

Arthur Savage, 74 Hernando

Arthur R. Savage, 74, Hernando, died Friday, May 24, 2002 in Inverness.

He was born Oct. 18, 1927 in Norwich, Conn., to Henry E. and Fern Richardson Savage, and came here in 1993 from Ledyard, Conn.

He was a logistics administrator for Dow Chemical International for 31 years.

Mr. Savage served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church Hand Bell Choir, the Inverness Elks, the Masonic Lodge in Norwich, Conn., and a volunteer at the Ted Williams Museum in Citrus Hills. He was of the Presbyterian faith.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Minerva Orr Savage of Hernando; one son, Dennis (Renee) Savage of Lisbon, Conn.; two daughters, Judith (David) Boettner of Valley City, Ohio and Deborah Savage (Paul Schulz) of San Francisco; two brothers, Herbert (Alice) Savage of Baltic, Conn., and David (Lorraine) Savage of Norwich, Conn.; two sisters, Joyce (Albert) Steffenson of Preston, Conn., and Meredith Savage of Norwich, Conn.; seven grandchildren, Raylene Taskoski of Orlando, Rob Savage of Lancaster, Conn., Ryan Savage of Jewett City, Conn., Wesley Boettner, Meredith Boettner and Jacob Boettner, all of Valley City, Ohio, Trevor Schulz of San Francisco; 10 great-grandchildren.
