Yvette Cozart, 62 Spring Hill

Yvette DeGuzman Cozart, 62, Spring Hill, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at Oak Hill Hospital in Spring Hill.

She was born Dec. 24, 1939, in Newark, N.J., to the late Domingo and Louise (Hill) DeGuzman.

She was a counselor with the Eckerd Youth Program in Brooksville, a dedicated volunteer to Pathfinders, and she was committed to help, through her charitable works feeding the homeless and those in need.

She was a gifted singer and soloist whose genre of music was from sacred classical to gospel, and had toured the United States and the Caribbean.

She had sung with Adoration, Spring Hill; Voices of Unity, Newark, N.J.; New Jersey Mass Choir; Jon Robertson Chorale, New York, N.Y.; Evangelistic Crusades; and with James Cleveland and Shirley Caesar.

She was a member and sang with the choir of Spring Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Lemont Millington of California, Marellus Cross of Irvington, N.J., and Grover Cross and his fiancée, Lisa Kiesznowski, of Spring Hill; one daughter, Joyy’ Cross of Orange, N.J.; four brothers, Simon’ DeGuzman and his wife, Gladys, of Spring Hill, Mauricio DeGuzman and his wife, Patricia, of Schenectady, N.Y., Luis DeGuzman and his wife, Hyacinth, of Anegada, British West Indies, and Dwayne DeGuzman of Oakland, Calif.; one sister, Vincenta Thomas of Brooklyn, N.Y.; aunt, Mary Stokes of Hernando; and eight grandchildren.

Charles Hale, 76 Homosassa

Charles F. Hale, 76, Homosassa, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at Seven Rivers Community Hospital, Crystal River.

Born Nov. 6, 1925, in Massachusetts, he came to this area from Palmer, Mass., three years ago.

Mr. Hale was owner of the Monson Bowling Alley in Monson, Mass.

He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran.

He was a member of the Crystal River Moose Lodge No. 2013 and life member of the American Legion of Monson, Mass.

He is survived by his wife, Antoinette (Jacobs) Hale of Homosassa; daughter, Constance Kennedy of West Springfield, Mass.; two grandsons, Joseph and Brian Kennedy; and Antoinette, Jo An, Michael, Alan, Barbara, Rosemarie, Norman and Audrey, all stepchildren from Monson, Mass.

Marian Hedberg, 85 Lecanto

Marian I. Hedberg, 85, Lecanto, formerly of Seminole, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at home.

Born in Hinsdale, N.Y., she came here in 1980 from Olean, N.Y., and moved to Lecanto in 2000.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing and crocheting.

She was Methodist.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Oscar; two sons, Ernest of Seminole and Edwin of Lecanto; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Willie Horn, 82 Crystal River

Willie Horn, 82, Crystal River, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at Seven Rivers Community Hospital.

Born May 1, 1920, in West Virginia to Harry and Nancy (Salmon) Horn, he came here from Ohio three years ago.

Mr. Horn was a self-employed electrician.

He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran.

He was a member of the Ozello Baptist Church.

Surviving are his daughter, Kathleen Horn Burke and her husband, Jimmie, of Crystal River; three grandsons, James, Timmy and Ricky Burke; and three great-grandsons, Chad, Richard and Jimmy Burke.

Norman Jensen, 69Floral City

Norman Miller Jensen, 69, of Moonrise Resort, Floral City, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at his home.

Born Aug. 7, 1933, in Minot, N.D., to the late Herman M. and Carrie (Rassmussen) Jensen, he came here in 1994 from St. Petersburg, where he resided for 35 years.

Mr. Jensen was a retired automotive mechanic with the Pinellas County School System with 15 years of service.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a member of the Inverness VFW Post 4337.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, on Aug. 19, 2002.

Survivors include two sons, Paul A. Jensen of St. Petersburg and Dale R. Jensen of Inverness; two brothers, David and Richard Jensen, both of Hammond, Wis.; two sisters, Karen Johnson of Stuart and Evelyn Massie of Kissimmee; and seven grandchildren.

Shirley Payne, 68 Chassahowitzka

Shirley B. Payne, 68, Chassahowitzka, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at her home.

Mrs. Payne was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and moved to the area 24 years ago from Safety Harbor.

She was a retired seamstress.

She was Protestant.

Survivors include a son, Kevin, of Winter Haven; two daughters, Jennifer Bradley and her husband, Bobby, of Crystal River and Karen Payne of Chassahowitzka; two brothers, Dale Kloss of Ohio and Jerry Kloss of Florida; five sisters, Mary Creel and Penny Hunter, both of Jacksonville, Ethel Beebo of Ohio, Joyce Reed of Crystal River and Carol Colvin of Ohio; three granddaughters, Katrina Wasden Connelley, Stacie Payne and Kassie Womer; three grandsons, Ricky Wasden, Michael Payne and Joshua Montgomery; two great-grandsons, Terry and Brandon Gernatt; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Payne was preceded in death by her husband, Ulys, and her son, Ricky Payne.

Harold Peters Sr., 75 Dallas, Texas

Harold Peters Sr. died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, in Dallas, Texas.

He was born Sept. 10, 1927, in Adrian, Mich.

Mr. Peters served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was also involved in the Volunteer Fire Department in Tampa for many years.

He was preceded in death by his son, Malvin, from Florida, son, John Peters from Louisiana and wife, Neva, from Texas.

He is survived by his first wife, Vera Jane Peters of Floral City; one sister, Donna Copeland of Michigan; sons, Harold Peters Jr. and Calvin Peters of Floral City; daughters, Suzanne Hall, Judy Kuykendall and Elizabeth MacArthur of Texas; 17 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Ruth Roddenberry, 72 Crystal River

Ruth Roddenberry, 72, Crystal River, died Wednesday evening, Sept. 18, 2002, at Seven Rivers Community Hospital in Crystal River.

She was born April 25, 1930, in Holder to Joseph and Susie (Knighten) Hodge and was a lifelong resident of the area.

She was a past member of the Citronelle Baptist Church and currently a member of the Crystal River Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Roddenberry, in April 1977; daughter, Marie Monard, on June 3, 2002; and sister, Nellie Osteen, on Aug. 25, 2002.

Survivors include her son, Joseph F. Roddenberry of Boston, Ga.; two daughters, Betty (Bill) Lolly of Crystal River and Margaret (James) Wooten of Douglas, Ga.; two brothers, Early Hodge of Dunnellon and Willie Hodge of Zephyrhills; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many step-grandchildren and great-step-grandchildren.
