Roy D. Cawthon

Roy D. Cawthon of Gainesville died Tuesday at his home after a long illness. He was 77.

Mr. Cawthon formerly owned and operated Nehi Bottling Co. in DeFuniak Springs. He also was a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Born in DeFuniak Springs, he attended the University of Alabama and moved from DeFuniak Springs to Gainesville 32 years ago.

Mr. Cawthon was a member of the First United Methodist Church of DeFuniak Springs. He enjoyed fishing and traveling.

He was preceded in death by a son, Roy Davis Cawthon Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Lucille B. Cawthon of Gainesville; a daughter, Jennie C. Beazlie of Newberry; a son, George E. Cawthon of Gainesville; a sister, Fannie Lou Clark of Chipley; and five grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Hospice of North Central Florida in Gainesville.

Willie O'Neal Clark Sr.

Willie O'Neal "Lepricon" Clark Sr. of Gainesville died Sunday at Shands at AGH after a brief illness. He was 41.

Mr. Clark was an upholstery assistant.

Born in Kingstree, S.C., he moved from High Springs to Gainesville 34 years ago.

Mr. Clark attended Pleasanthill Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Willie O'Neal Clark Jr. of Hawaii and Anthony Antwan Clark of Gainesville; and a brother, James Pressley of Gainesville.

Robert Detweiller Evans

Robert Detweiller Evans of Gainesville died Tuesday at Hospice House in Gainesville after a brief illness. He was 90.

Mr. Evans was a civil engineer for the Caterpillar Tractor Co. Sales Department in Peoria, Ill.

Born in Peoria, he moved from Peoria to Gainesville 20 years ago.

Mr. Evans graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.

He was a member and counselor for the Service Corps of Retired Executives Association and was a member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Gainesville.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Barbara Off Evans of Gainesville; a son, Ronald Evans of Topeka, Kan.; a daughter, Nancy Gillis of Duluth, Minn.; and three grandchildren.

Camelia Mae Holt

Camelia Mae Holt of Kinston, N.C., died Tuesday in Kinston. She was 90.

Mrs. Holt was a homemaker.

She was born in Lake Mary and moved from Newberry to Kinston 13 years ago.

Mrs. Holt was preceded in death by her husband, Fred W. Holt.

Survivors include a son, Ralph W. Holt of Gainesville; a daughter, Retta H. Daniels of Kinston; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.

Clare F. Jolley

Clare F. Jolley of Gainesville died Tuesday at Shands at AGH. He was 72.

Mr. Jolley was a computer systems analyst formerly employed by Sperry Rand and the University of Florida. He also served in the U.S. Navy.

Born in Alpena, Mich., he moved from Ocala to Gainesville 44 years ago.

Mr. Jolley graduated from Ocala High School and the University of Florida.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gainesville.

Mr. Jolley was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Anne Shaw Jolley.

Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Wattenbarger of Gainesville; a son, Steve Jolley of Largo; two brothers, R.V. Jolley of Sun City and Richard F. Jolley of Branford; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Alzheimer's Association of Gainesville.

Mamie Moore Parsons

WELLBORN - Mamie Moore Parsons of Wellborn died Tuesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville after a short illness. She was 78.

Mrs. Parsons was a homemaker.

Born in Jacksonville, she moved from Lake City to Wellborn 61 years ago.

Mrs. Parsons was a member of First Methodist Church in Lake City and was a member and past president of the Lake City Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Lee Parsons.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Gregory Parsons of Charlotte, N.C., and Michael L. Parsons of Wellborn; a sister, Eloise Stephens of Tampa; two brothers, Jack Moore of Gainesville and B.G. Moore Jr. of Jacksonville; and five grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the Lake City Garden Club in Lake City.

Laverna Bell-Doloris Pearson

BELL - Laverna Bell-Doloris Pearson of Bell died Monday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. She was 67.

Mrs. Pearson was a homemaker and a member of the Jesus Way Church of Deliverance.

She was born in Tampa and moved from Brooksville to Bell nine years ago.

Mrs. Pearson enjoyed fishing and collecting angels and Christmas trees.

She was preceded in death by a son, John T. Pearson; and a daughter, Charlene Pearson.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence Pearson of Bell; her mother, Arlene LaBelle of Tampa; two sons, Clarence Bobby Pearson of Tallahassee and Donald Donnie Pearson of Bell; four daughters, Linda King of Corpus Christi, Texas, Carolyn Tillman of Marsaryktown, Sheila Rosario of Brooksville and Bonnie Jones of Bell; two brothers, Gordon Staley of Bell and Kenneth Staley of Tampa; three sisters, Doris Williams of Fort Pierce, Jeanette Romero of Old Town and Shirley Tiller of Tampa; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

William J. Tilson Jr.

WILLISTON - William J. Tilson Jr. of Williston died Wednesday at Vencor Hospital in Green Cove Springs. He was 62.

Mr. Tilson was a retired painter for the Alachua County School Board.

Born in Altoona, Pa., he moved from Gainesville to Williston two years ago.

Mr. Tilson was a Methodist.

Survivors include a son, Edward Tilson of Altoona; a daughter, Shalene Carter of Williston; and two granddaughters.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the American Lung Association.

Leo Edwards Waters Jr.

Leo Edwards Waters Jr. of Gainesville died Friday at his home after a long illness. He was 43.

Mr. Waters was a retired machinist for Levins Industry of New York City.

He was born in High Springs and moved from New York City to Gainesville six years years ago.

Mr. Waters attended Mount Carmel United Methodist Church in High Springs.

Survivors include his mother, Phyllis Jones Waters of High Springs; a brother, Leonard W. Waters of Gainesville; and eight sisters, Clementine Hughes, Patsy Waters and Susan Jones Barnes, all of Alachua, Ann Waters and Monica Waters, both of New York City, Dionne Waters Cooper of Atlanta, Sileath Waters of St. John, S.C., and Linda Jones of Fort Lauderdale.
