Hazel A. Lewis

STEINHATCHEE - Hazel A. Lewis of Steinhatchee died Sunday at Shands at AGH after a long illness. She was 66.

Mrs. Lewis was a retired secretary for a construction company.

She was born in Hahira, Ga., and moved from Tampa to Steinhatchee 11 years ago.

Survivors include her husband, A.L. Lewis of Steinhatchee; two sons, Tim Howell of Fort Lauderdale and Tom Howell of Manassas, Va.; a stepson, Tony Lewis of Waycross, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Vicki Davis of Rossville, Ga.; two brothers, Larry Howell of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Billy Howell of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Thelma Cook of Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.; five grandchildren; and one great- grandchild.

Gertrude Balosok McMullen

TAMPA - Gertrude Balosok McMullen of Tampa died Sunday at John Knox Village in Tampa. She was 89.

Mrs. McMullen was a retired high school mathematics teacher. After retiring from teaching, she became an eggshell artist and won many awards.

She and her husband lived in Gainesville for 42 years before moving to Tampa 17 years ago.

She was a member of Temple Terrace United Methodist Church in Tampa.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth McMullen of Tampa; her son, Jack McMullen of Tampa; and three grandchildren.

Frances Moncrief

LAKE CITY - Frances Moncrief died on Thursday at Lake Shore Hospital in Lake City after a short illness. She was 73.

Mrs. Moncrief was a homemaker.

She was born in Fairmont, N.C., and moved from Parkton, N.C., to Lake City a year ago.

Survivors include her husband, Jason Moncrief of Parkton, N.C.; two daughters, Sheila Ann Stalvey of Lake City and Carol Ann Cottle of Raeford, N.C.; eight sons, Billy Lee of St. Pauls, N.C., Bobby Lee and Carl Moncrief, both of Raeford, Brady Lee of South Carolina, Grady Lee of Lillington, N.C., Jimmy Lee and Thomas James Moncrief, both of Parkton, N.C., and Roger Moncrief of West Virginia; three brothers, Frank Lee of Fayetteville, N.C., Tommy Lee of Hendersonville, N.C., and Mack Lee of St. Pauls, N.C.; 21 grandchildren; and 17 great- grandchildren.

Hazel Leona Mulligan

Hazel Leona Mulligan of Gainesville died Friday at Oaks Rehabilitation and Care Center in Gainesville. She was 95.

Mrs. Mulligan was a retired registered nurse.

She was born in Porterwood, W.Va., and moved from Pittsburgh to Gainesville 27 years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Mulligan Jr.

Survivors include two sons, William N. Mulligan of Gainesville and Donald L. Mulligan of Kent, Wash.; a brother, John Uber of Venice; a sister, Mildred Baker of Greenville, Pa.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Grace Cronbaugh Schmied

Grace Cronbaugh Schmied of Gainesville died at Shands at AGH on Saturday after a long illness. She was 79.

Mrs. Schmied was a retired registered nurse and worked as a tuberculosis nurse at the Alachua County Health Department for 10 years.

She was born in Williamstown, Ohio, and moved from Dover, N.J., to Gainesville 38 years ago.

Mrs. Schmied was a Methodist.

Survivors include her husband, James W. Schmied Jr. of Gainesville; a daughter, Jacki Tampas of Gainesville; two sons, Michael B. Schmied of Jacksonville and Robert Schmied of Burbank, Calif.; a sister, Ruth Orwick of Winter Park; and a brother, Ralph Cronbaugh of DeLand.

Freddie Loye Walker Sr.

OLD TOWN - Freddie Loye Walker Sr. of Old Town died Friday at his home after a brief illness. He was 55.

Mr. Walker was a welder, working as a pipefitter and boilermaker.

He was born in Gainesville and lived here his entire life.

Mr. Walker was a Baptist. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

Survivors include his parents, Jim and Juanita Millican of Old Town; two sons, Freddie "Buddy" Walker Jr. of Old Town and Troi Walker of Cross City; two daughters, Linda Suzanne Miller of Keystone Heights and Amber Sunshyne Walker of Old Town; two bothers, Wayne Walker and Jimmy Millican, both of Old Town; and six grand- children.

Dirk E. Walstrom

Dirk E. Walstrom of Gainesville died Sunday at Shands at AGH. He was 62.

Mr. Walstrom had served in the U.S. Coast Guard.

He was born in Los Angeles and moved from Concord, Calif., to Gainesville 17 years ago.

Mr. Walstrom was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Walstrom of Gainesville; a stepson, Rorie Roberts of Gainesville; his mother, Una Walstrom Dearborn of Gainesville; and a sister, Tina Carter of Gainesville.

Jay Connor Wolfe

ORANGE PARK - Jay Connor Wolfe died Sunday in Orange Park after a long illness. She was 94.

Mrs. Wolfe was a homemaker.

She was born in Fair View, N.C., and moved to Orange Park after living in Live Oak for 61 years.

Mrs. Wolfe was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Business Women's Circle Group No. 6 of the First Baptist Church and the Women's Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens Club and the Women's Club of Live Oak.

Survivors include a son, Robert J. Wolfe of Keystone Heights; a daughter Georgia L. Ledbetter of Orange Park, Fla.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Sula Mae Cruse

HIGH SPRINGS - Sula Mae Cruse of High Springs died in her home Saturday following a lengthy illness. She was 91.

Mrs. Cruse was born in Newberry, S.C., and moved to High Springs 78 years ago. She was a retired packer with Copeland Sausage Co. and attended First Church of the Nazarene in High Springs.

Survivors include three daughters, Margaret Tyndal of High Springs, Viola Hodge of Leesburg and Ramona Lovin of High Springs; two sons, Lonnie Jackson Cruse and William Eugene Cruse, both of High Springs; 19 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Kathryn Parrish Butts

Kathryn Parrish Butts of Gainesville died at her home Saturday. She was 72.

Mrs. Butts was a homemaker.

Mrs. Butts was born in Paulding, Ohio, and moved 17 years ago from Daytona Beach to Gainesville.

She was a member of the Gainesville Country Club. She also belonged to several Daytona Beach organizations, including the Central Baptist Church, Halifax River Yacht Club, the Palmetto Club and the Follies of the Peabody Auditorium.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph E. Butts of Gainesville; a stepson, Kent H. Butts of Carlisle, Pa.; a daughter, Nicki C. Ring of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; three brothers one from Daytona Beach and two from Ohio; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Evelyn E. Clance

STARKE - Evelyn E. Clance of Keystone Heights died Friday at Windsor Manor in Starke after a long illness. She was 75.

Mrs. Clance was a homemaker.

Mrs. Clance was born in Macon, Ga., and moved from Jacksonville to Keystone Heights 32 years ago.

She belonged to the Gideons Auxiliary and the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 279.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin S. Clance.

Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Couey of Keystone Heights; three sons, Michael Clance, Donald Clance and Jerry Clance, all of Keystone Heights; a brother, Charles "Pete" White of Jacksonville; a sister, Gladys Dunkley of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren.
