Mildred Christian Harris

Mildred Christian Harris of LaCrosse died Saturday at Shands at Alachua General Hospital. She was 76.

Mrs. Harris was born in Appomattox, Va., and lived in LaCrosse for 51 years.

She was a homemaker, a laboratory technologist for the University of Florida and a member of First Baptist Church of Alachua.

Mrs. Harris is preceded in death by her husband, Worth Harris. Survivors include two daughters, Jane Harris of Jacksonville and Jean Harris of LaCrosse; one son, David Harris of LaCrosse; one brother, Chesley Christian of Appomattox; four sisters, Virginia Koos of Tangent, Ore., Bess Thompson of Fairfax, Va., Catherine Byerly of Fernandina Beach, and Joice Cox of South Swansea, Mass.; and three grandchildren.

Edwina Burroughs Moody

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS - Edwina Burroughs Moody of Keystone Heights died Sunday morning at her home after an extended illness.

She was 77.

Mrs. Moody was born in Mount View, Ark., and moved to Keystone Heights from Lake Butler in 1953.

She was a clerk for Clay Electric for 23 years and was a member of the Community Church of Keystone Heights, the Keystone Heights Woman's Club, the Lake Brooklyn Civic Association and the Bradford High School Alumni Association.

Mrs. Moody was preceded in death by her son, Chester Edwin (Bubba) Moody. Survivors include her husband, Chester E. Moody of Keystone Heights; two daughters, Lynda Gayle Roberts of Winter Park and Carolyn Jean Thomas of Gainesville; two brothers, John Ryan of Lulu and Kent Ryan of Thailand; four sisters, Yvonne Neiland of Solan, Iowa, Hazel L'Engle of Winter Park, Gwendolyn Bumgardner of Perry and Norma Jean Lyons of High Springs; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Bertha Mae Batten Shepherd

PALATKA - Bertha Mae Batten Shepherd of Palatka died Saturday in Palatka after a short illness. She was 87.

Mrs. Shepherd was a retired retail saleswoman.

Born in Micro, N.C., she lived in Gainesville for 46 years before moving to Palatka one year ago.

Mrs. Shepherd was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Bardin.

She enjoyed quilting and sewing.

Survivors include three sons, Bill C. Shepherd of Palatka, Jesse J. Shepherd of Newberry and Bob S. Shepherd of Alamogordo, N.M.; a daughter, Janie Key of Marietta, Ga.; a sister, Mary Lou Reed of California; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the Providence Baptist Church building fund in Palatka.

Mary Smith Taylor

NEWBERRY - Mary Smith Taylor of Newberry died Sunday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. She was 90.

Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Newberry.

She was a pianist, Sunday school teacher and treasurer at the Corinth Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Catherine Fowler of Newberry; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Sharon Elizabeth Tucker

Sharon Elizabeth Tucker of Eastpoint in Franklin County died Saturday in Tallahassee after a long illness.

She was 52.

Mrs. Tucker formerly owned Charlie's Place in Eastpoint, Sharon's Beauty Shop and Breakwater Seafood.

Born in Ponce De Leon, she moved to Eastpoint 39 years ago.

She was a member of the Living Waters Assembly of God Church in Apalachicola.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Ray Tucker of Eastpoint; four sons; four daughters; her mother; three brothers; a sister, Carolyn Peragine of Williston; 23 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Linda G. Hopkins

LAKE BUTLER - Linda G. Hopkins of Lake Butler died unexpectedly Monday at her home. She was 50.

Mrs. Hopkins worked as a medical transcriptionist for North Florida Reception Center in Lake Butler.

Born in Charleston, W.Va., she lived in Virginia most of her life before moving to Lake Butler 23 years ago.

Mrs. Hopkins was a member of the Lake Butler ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include a son, Christopher D. Hopkins of Raiford; three daughters, Jennifer McNeese of Ringgold, Ga., Amy Hopkins of Starke and Amanda Hopkins of Jacksonville; her mother and stepfather, Lorraine and Harley Siekkinen of Lake City; a sister, Debby Treanor of Brooksville; a brother, James Craig Gandee of Lake Worth; and three grandchildren.

John Miller

WILLISTON - John Miller of Williston died Sunday at Oakview Rehab Care Center in Williston.

He was 78.

Mr. Miller was a laborer.

He moved from Eustis to Williston two years ago.

Anthony Joseph Ray

Anthony Joseph Ray of Gainesville died Tuesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a short illness.

He was 75.

Mr. Ray was retired from the Alachua County school system. He also served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, he moved from Toledo to Gainesville 17 years ago.

Mr. Ray was a member of the Elks Lodge and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Raymonda Ray.

Survivors include a daughter, Suzanne Beechler of Gainesville; three brothers, Michael Ray, Matthew Ray and Robert Ray, all of Toledo; a sister, Maybelle Lett of Arizona; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Annie E. Scott

WILLISTON - Annie E. Scott of Williston died Saturday at Oakview Rehab Care Center in Williston. She was 91.

Mrs. Scott was a homemaker.

She was born in Chiefland and moved from Palmetto to Williston two years ago.

Mrs. Scott was a member of the Pallbearers Lodge No. 2 in Adamsville and the St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Chiefland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Scott; and a son, Joseph Thomas.

Survivors include her caretaker, Julia Henderson of Chiefland.

Michael E. Connor

Michael E. Connor of Gainesville died Monday at Shands at AGH. He was 73.

Maj. Connor was retired from the U.S. Army. He had served in World War II, where he received a Purple Heart. He later earned a Bronze Star.

Born in Troy, Ohio, he moved from Orlando to Gainesville 24 years ago.

He was a member of the Scottish Rite in Southbend, Ind.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce V. Connor of Gainesville; three sons, Dr. Michael Connor and Patrick Connor, both of Orlando, and Scott Connor of Sarasota; and seven grandchildren.
