Jim C. Cordes

LIVE OAK - Jim C. Cordes of Live Oak died Sunday at his home after a long illness. He was 79.

Mr. Cordes was a lawyer in Connersville, Ind. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was born in Columbus, Ind., and moved from Connersville to Live Oak 13 years ago.

Mr. Cordes was a member of the American Legion, Warren Masonic Lodge Free & Accepted Masons, Elks Lodge, Connersville Country Club, all in Connersville, and was a deacon at the Community Presbyterian Church in Live Oak.

Survivors include two daughters, Constance Truman of Fort Lauderdale and Karen Hutcheson of Lake City; a son, Christopher Wilson of Live Oak; a brother, James Robert Wilson of Fort Lauderdale; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Aulie Calvin Register

LIVE OAK - Aulie Calvin Register of Live Oak died Tuesday at Surrey Place Nursing Home in Live Oak after a long illness. He was 85.

Mr. Register was a grocery store clerk and a member of New Friendship Primitive Baptist Church in Hahira, Ga.

Born in Adel, Ga., he moved from Valdosta, Ga., to Live Oak nine years ago.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Register of Live Oak; a daughter, Carolyn Spilatore of Live Oak; a son, Aulie C. Register Jr. of Hobe Sound; three sisters, Essie Cook of Daytona Beach, Virginia Graham of Nashville, Ga., and Georgia Thomlinson of Bradenton; an identical twin brother, Caulie Alvin Register of Adel; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Flossie Mathews Bero

WILLISTON - Flossie Mathews Bero of Williston died Sunday at Nature Coast Regional Hospital in Williston after a long illness. She was 82.

Mrs. Bero was a homemaker and a farmer.

Born in Flemington, she lived in Atlanta for 40 years before moving to Williston 20 years ago.

Mrs. Bero attended Florida State College for Women, now Florida State University.

She was a member of the Florida Cattlemans' Association, the First Presbyterian Church in Williston and the Women of the Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband, William F. Bero of Williston; two daughters, Carolyn Bero Goodman of Maitland and Louise Bero Huey of Clemson, S.C.; a brother, William David Mathews of Williston; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the First Presbyterian Church in Williston.

Rosa M. Dennard Caldwell

Rosa M. Dennard Caldwell of Gainesville died Monday at her home after a short illness. She was 50.

Ms. Caldwell was a health services abstractor.

Born in Hawthorne, she moved from Atlanta to Gainesville three years ago.

Ms. Caldwell graduated from Lincoln High School in 1966.

She was a member of The Rock of Gainesville.

Survivors include two daughters, Melissa Elam of Augusta, Ga., and Megan J. Caldwell of Gainesville; four sons, Andrew Dennard of Panama, Errol Caldwell of Tulsa, Okla., Stephen Caldwell of Atlanta and Larry Caldwell of Gainesville; her mother, Caretha Dixon of Gainesville; a sister, Cheryl Norris of Atlanta; three brothers, Johnnie Dennard, Elvis Dennard and David Dixon, all of Gainesville; and nine grandchildren.

Mildred Louise DuPree

LAKE CITY - Mildred Louise DuPree of Lake City died Monday at Shands at Lake Shore Hospital in Lake City. She was 89.

Mrs. DuPree was formerly employed by Sunland Training Center in Gainesville, now Tacachale.

She also was a former ward clerk for the Division Hospital, now Lake City Medical Center.

Born in Alachua, she moved to Lake City 37 years ago.

Mrs. DuPree was a charter member of the Lantern Park Baptist Church in Lake City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fate DuPree.

Survivors include two sons, Lamar DuPree of Lake City and Donald DuPree of Fort Walton Beach; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Wiley Barney Hutchins

LIVE OAK - Wiley Barney Hutchins of Live Oak died Monday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville after a short illness. He was 67.

He was born in Lake City and moved to Live Oak 42 years ago.

Mr. Hutchins was a maintenance technician in the Florida Army National Guard for 30 years and had served in Desert Storm.

Mr. Hutchins previously ran the former Barney's Texaco Station in Live Oak.

He was preceded in death by a son, Greg Hutchins.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Hutchins of Live Oak; three sons, Marty Hutchins and Marvin Hutchins, both of Live Oak, and Alfred Hutchins of Auburndale; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Gladys Beckham Keene

Gladys Beckham Keene of Gainesville died Monday in Gainesville. She was 84.

Mrs. Keene was a former bus driver for Regional Transit System.

Born in Hawthorne, she moved to Gainesville 50 years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher Keene.

Survivors include four daughters, Rosalie Marie Sherman of Gainesville, Linda Merrich of Tallahassee, Debbie Irick of Clearwater and Margaret Von Pusch;dk city two sisters, Lucy Keene of Gainesville and Jerry Norris of Lake City; and three grandchildren.

Elizabeth Kingsley

BELL - Elizabeth Kingsley of Bell died Monday at her home. She was 72.

Mrs. Kingsley was a homemaker and former owner of Santa Fe Marina.

Born in Largo, she moved from Largo to Bell 20 years ago.

Mrs. Kingsley was a Baptist. She enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include a son, R. Merritt Kingsley of Bell; a brother, Julius Howard Sr. of Clearwater; and one grandson.

Joseph Jimmie O'Hern Sr.

LAKE BUTLER - Joseph Jimmie O'Hern Sr. of Lake Butler died Monday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville after a brief illness. He was 69.

Mr. O'Hern was retired from the North Florida Reception Center in Lake Butler.

Born in Ashburn, Ga., he lived most of his life in Lake Butler.

Mr. O'Hern was a member of the Raiford Holiness Revival Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Julia Emily O'Hern of Lake Butler; two sons, James Jonathan O'Hern of Orlando and Joseph Jimmie O'Hern Jr. of Lake Butler; three half-brothers, Roy Fillyaw of Jacksonville, Elbert Fillyaw of Minnetonka, Minn., and Tommy Fillyaw of Augusta, Maine; and eight grandchildren.

Ludwig Christian Jacob Plitt

Ludwig Christian Jacob Plitt of Gainesville died Saturday at Palm Garden. He was 84.

Mr. Plitt retired as a mechanical engineer from the Martin Marietta Co.

Born in Baltimore, he moved from Frederick, Md., to Gainesville seven years ago.

Mr. Plitt was the final assembly foreman for airplane engines during World War II, receiving many awards for his design and drafting work.

He was a Lutheran.

Mr. Plitt was preceded in death by two wives, Virginia Plitt and Elisabeth Plitt.

He enjoyed swimming, painting, drawing, bird-watching and writing hymns.

Survivors include his wife, Celia M. Broadwater Plitt of Gainesville; four stepdaughters, Marcia Broadwater Gary and Margaret Broadwater Sayler, both of Gainesville, Debbie Lescalleet of Jefferson, Md., and Betsy Broadwater of Jacksonville; one stepson, Col. W.T. Broadwater of Germany; and six grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Rodeheaver Boys Ranch in Palatka or to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
