William Joseph McGinn Jr.

William Joseph McGinn Jr. of Gainesville died Saturday at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a long illness. He was 65.

Mr. McGinn was a retired master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigation.

He worked at the ROTC program at the University of Florida and initiated the program at Valdosta State University. He also formerly owned several businesses in Williston and Gainesville.

Born in Boston, he moved from Williston to Gainesville 19 years ago.

Mr. McGinn was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Norma A. McGinn of Gainesville; two sons, Bill McGinn of Longwood and Tim McGinn of Macon, Ga.; a daughter, Betty Ann Cash of Gainesville; his mother, Elizabeth McGinn Kolinsky of Archer; two brothers, John McGinn of Ludlow, Mass., and Walter McGinn of Braintree, Mass.; a sister, Betty Panton of Gainesville; and three grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to St. Francis House.

Emerson B. Carl Sr.

Emerson B. Carl Sr. of Gainesville died Friday in Gainesville. He was 84.

Mr. Carl was a teacher at the former Rolling Green Academy in the city of Alachua.

Born in Berkshire, N.Y., he moved from Lexington, Ky., to Gainesville 30 years ago.

Survivors include four sons, Emerson Carl Jr. of Charleston, S.C., Dana Carl of Buffalo, N.Y., Gary Carl of Fort Worth, Texas, and Willard Carl of Golden, Colo.; a daughter, Susan Carl of Michigan; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Dorothy Messenger Moore

Dorothy Messenger Moore of Jacksonville died Saturday at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville. She was 91.

Mrs. Moore was born in Des Moines, Iowa. She moved to Jacksonville from Gainesville 54 years ago. Mrs. Moore was a music teacher in Duval County schools. She was a member of Riverside Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville.

Survivors include her husband, Glenn D. Moore Jr. of Jacksonville; two sons, including Robert F. Moore of Starke; a brother; and two grandchildren.

Wilma Carter Ryder

LAKE BUTLER - Wilma Carter Ryder of Lake Butler died Monday at her home after a brief illness. She was 68.

Mrs. Ryder was a homemaker.

Born in Starke, she lived most of her life in Raiford and Lake Butler.

Survivors include her husband, William Earl Ryder of Lake Butler; six daughters, Christine Dyal, Judy Ryder and Tammy Foerman, all of Lake Butler, Louise Hall of Pascagoula, Miss., and Joann Bryant and Barbara Burnette, both of Lake City; five sons, Jimmy Bryant and Frank Bryant, both of Lake Butler, Daniel Bryant and Donald Bryant, both of Raiford, and Arthur Thornton of Lawtey; five brothers, Willie Carter, Shelton Carter and Louie Taylor, all of Macclenny, Martin Taylor of Lake City and Alvin Carter of McAlpin; two sisters, Ester Clemons and Alice Winn, both of Macclenny; 24 grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren.

John Sammut

WILLISTON - John Sammut of Williston died March 3 at Nature Coast Regional Hospital in Williston after a long illness. He was 76.

Mr. Sammut was a horse trainer.

Born in Malta, he moved from Canada to Williston 15 years ago.

Mr. Sammut was a Catholic.

Survivors include two sons, Andy Sammut of Orangeville, Ontario, Canada, and Nick Sammut of Palgrave, Ontario, Canada; a daughter, Rosanne Sewyernick of Markham, Ontario, Canada; two brothers, Joe Sammut and Fred Sammut, both of California; two sisters, Anne Farrow and Georgina Marcoloni, both of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; four grandchildren; and one great -grandchild.

Judy Mae Sapp

MORRISTON - Judy Mae Sapp of Morriston died Saturday at Nature Coast Regional Hospital in Williston. She was 85.

Mrs. Sapp was born in Bradley Junction and moved from Pahokee to Morriston two years ago.

She was a retired school bus driver in Palm Beach County.

Mrs. Sapp was a past matron and treasurer of the Order of the Eastern Star in Pahokee. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pahokee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Meakin J. Sapp; and a son, M.J. Sapp Jr.

Survivors include a daughter, Marie Hughes Collins of Ocala; two sisters, Charity Williams of Arcadia and Mozelle Frederick of Homestead; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Marion Bernard Thagard

MELROSE - Marion Bernard Thagard of Melrose died Saturday at his home after a short illness. He was 79.

Mr. Thagard was a former cottage supervisor at Sunland, now Tacachale. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Born in Reddick, he moved from Miami to Melrose 50 years ago.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include a nephew, Phelps Carson of Palatka; and a niece.

W.H. Tidwell

BRANFORD - W.H. "Mack" Tidwell of Branford died Saturday at his home after a long illness. He was 83.

Mr. Tidwell was a farmer and a member of Beachville Advent Christian Church.

Born in O'Brien, he was a lifelong resident of Suwannee County.

Survivors include three daughters, Mabel Dicks of Jacksonville, Wynell Townsend of Lake City and Lena Hinton of Yulee; two sons, Kenneth Tidwell of O'Brien and John Tidwell of Germany; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great- grandchildren.
