Evelyn Vaughn Fry

FORT WHITE - Evelyn Vaughn Fry of Fort White died Thursday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. She was 78.

Mrs. Fry was a homemaker and a member of Fort White Baptist Church.

Born in High Springs, she moved from High Springs to Fort White 42 years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Fry.

Survivors include a brother, Millard Vaughn of High Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Hospice of North Central Florida.

Joseph Garcia

Joseph Garcia of Gainesville died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. He was 87.

Mr. Garcia was a retired manager for Kresge Corp., now Kmart Stores.

Born in Taunton, Mass., he moved from Somerville, Mass., to Gainesville last year.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph T. Garcia of Seattle and Stephen Garcia of Alachua; and three grandchildren.

Norris Kent

LIVE OAK - Norris Kent of Live Oak died Thursday at Suwannee Health Care Center in Live Oak. He was 93.

Mr. Kent was a retired supervisor at Western Electric Co. in Buffalo, N.Y.

Born in Muscatine, Iowa, he moved from Wilson, N.Y., to Live Oak about 25 years ago.

He was a member of Northern Florida Christian Center in O'Brien and the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Survivors include two daughters, Roberta Merrick of Rome, N.Y., and Kathleen Austin of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two sons, Berne Kent of Wilson and David Kent of Gold Hills, Ore.; a brother, Wilbur Kent of Rock Island, Ill.; a sister, Flora Baker of Cedarburg, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Northern Florida Christian Center in O'Brien.

Carl Axel Lilieholm

Carl Axel Lilieholm of Gainesville died Thursday at his home. He was 79.

Mr. Lilieholm was a retired building contractor. He also was a sergeant in the Swedish Marines.

Born in Eskilstuna, Sweden, he moved from Colts Neck, N.J., to Gainesville 27 years ago.

He was a member of the Builders Association, Cattlemans Association, Vasa Lodge in New Jersey and was a former member of the Moose Lodge.

Mr. Lilieholm was a Lutheran.

Survivors include his wife, Lucile Lilieholm of Gainesville; a son, Lennart Lilieholm of Gainesville; a daughter, Ingrid E. Heckner of Jacksonville; two stepsons, William Beck of Charlotte, N.C., and Tom Beck of Jacksonville; a brother, Gunnar Lilieholm of Sweden; and three sisters, Mary Tornqvist, Gun Lilieholm and Maj-Britt Strom, all of Sweden.

Leon W. O'Hara

CHIEFLAND - Leon W. O'Hara of Chiefland died Friday at Ayers Health and Rehab Center in Trenton. He was 85.

Mr. O'Hara was a service foreman for Florida Power Corp.

Born in Inverness, he moved to Chiefland 44 years ago.

He was a Mason and a member of New England Heights Harly Town Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lilly Mae O'Hara of Chiefland; a son, Billy O'Hara of Chiefland; two daughters, Loreine P. Gilliard of Louisville, Ga., and Nancy A. Thornton of Sanford; a sister, Mary Lee Kearny of Lake City; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Reginald Pegler

LA CROSSE - Reginald Pegler of La Crosse died Thursday at his home. He was 81.

Mr. Pegler was a salesman for hardware stores. He also was a Spitfire airplane mechanic in the British Royal Air Force during World War II.

Born in London, he moved to the United States 52 years ago before moving from Fort Lauderdale to La Crosse 17 years ago.

He was a member of the Church of England.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Smith Pegler of La Crosse; a daughter, Ann Dehn of Cooper City; three sons, Bill Pegler of Starke, Cliff Pegler of Williston and Richard Pegler of La Crosse; three sisters, Daphne Hoddy, Iris Allingham and Jill Hatton, all of England; and nine grandchildren.

Mildred Marie Shinholster

SUWANNEE - Mildred Marie Shinholster of Suwannee died Thursday at her home. She was 82.

Mrs. Shinholster was a homemaker and a member of Salt Creek Baptist Church.

Born in Screven, Ga., she moved from Jacksonville to Suwannee 31 years ago.

She enjoyed growing flowers and cooking.

Survivors include her husband, William Shinholster of Suwannee; a son, Fred Stanley Boatright of Waverly, Ga.; two daughters, Eloise Williams of Waverly and Bearnese Hasty of Hilliard; a sister, Ruth Aspinwall of Odum, Ga.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

G. Hoyt Whipple

G. Hoyt Whipple of Gainesville died Wednesday at his home after a brief illness. He was 82.

Dr. Whipple was a professor emeritus of radiological health at the University of Michigan's School of Public Health. He also was a consultant to the International Atomic Energy Commission, the World Health Organization and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. He designed environmental surveys for nuclear power plants.

Born in San Francisco, he grew up in Rochester, N.Y., and moved from Tallahassee to Gainesville four years ago.

He received a bachelor's of science degree from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and received a Ph.D. in biophysics from the University of Rochester.

Dr. Whipple enjoyed bird-watching, nature, music and reading.

Survivors include his wife, Marta Whipple of Gainesville; two daughters, Elizabeth Whipple and Dr. Margaret Whipple; three sons, Andrew Whipple, Dana Whipple and Matthew Whipple; and one granddaughter.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the University of Florida Museum of Natural History.
