Ruth Brooks Barker Wickliff
WILLISTON - Ruth Brooks Barker Wickliff of Williston died unexpectedly Saturday in Dunnellon. She was 74.
Mrs. Wickliff was a caregiver in the Williston area.
Born in Montbrook, she moved from Orlando to the Williston area 19 years ago. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Williston.
Survivors include three sons, Bill Barker of Ocala, Felton Barker Jr. of Orlando and John Barker of Kanakee, Ill.; a daughter, Linda Danner of Lakeland; a brother, Ronald Brooks of Melbourne; five sisters, Mary Stewart and Nettie Kirkland, both of Orlando, Jewell Sechrest of Williston, Etter Macri of Morriston and Elizabeth Licari of Palatka; 10 grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren.
UF history professor Augustus Merrimon Burns
Augustus Merrimon Burns III of McIntosh died Friday at Shands at the University of Florida. He was 60.
Dr. Burns was born in Roxboro, N.C., and moved to Gainesville in 1967 to become an associate history professor at UF.
He earned a bachelor's degree from Wake Forest University, a master's degree from Duke University and a doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Burns taught constitutional history, educational history and honors courses. His specialty was Southern political and educational history. Dr. Burns received several awards for his teaching and co-authored a book on notable North Carolina politician Frank Porter Graham and also worked on a documentary film of Graham that won honors.
He was a member of the Southern Historical Association and the North Carolina Historical Society.
Dr. Burns was an avid reader and was an active member of McIntosh United Methodist Church, where he served as a lay leader. Dr. Burns and his family sang in the Central Florida Master Choir.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Mills Burns of McIntosh; one daughter, Kate Burns of McIntosh; and one sister, Jane Burns Campbell of Richmond, Va.

Ruby Grantham
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Ruby Grantham of Newport News, Va., died Saturday. She was 87.
Mrs. Grantham was born in Laurel, Miss., and formerly lived in Cross City, where she attended First Baptist Church of Cross City.
Mrs. Grantham was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Grantham. Survivors include one son, Dr. Don Grantham.
Hester Mae Stafford Malone
JACKSONVILLE - Hester Mae Stafford Malone of Jacksonville died Saturday at Shands at Starke following a short illness. She was 89.
Mrs. Malone was born in Jacksonville and was a lifelong resident.
She was a retired clothing saleswoman at G.C. Murphy Co. and was a member of the Terry Road Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Dave B. Malone Jr. of Starke; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Thelma Beasley Larche
DELRAY BEACH - Thelma Beasley Larche of Delray Beach died Tuesday at her home. She was 86.
Born in Gainesville, Mrs. Larche moved to Delray Beach from Gainesville 15 years ago. She had worked as a librarian at Gainesville High School and P.K. Yonge Laboratory School before retiring in 1984.
Mrs. Larche graduated from Gainesville High School in 1930. She received her bachelor's degree in education from the University of Florida in 1956 and her master's degree in library science from Florida State University in 1958.
She was a member of the Colonial Dames of America, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the Confederacy, Altrusa and the American Association of University Women.
Survivors include her two sons, James G. Larche Jr. of Gainesville and W. Lawrence Larche of Boca Raton; a brother, C.W. Beasley of Gainesville; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Dorothy Franklin Matthews
GAINESVILLE - Dorothy Franklin Matthews of Gainesville died Saturday at her home. She was 66.
A retired teacher, Mrs. Matthews moved to Gainesville from New City, N.Y., 34 years ago. She was born in Knoxville, Tenn.
She graduated from George Washington High School in Knoxville and from William & Mary University with a bachelor's degree in fine arts. She was a member of the Four Seasons Garden Club and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Richard F. Matthews of Gainesville; a daughter, Catherine Kirsten Matthews of Fort Lauderdale; a son, Richard Neil Matthews of Gainesville; a brother, Charles Edgar Franklin of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; and two grandsons.
W. Maurice Morgan
GAINESVILLE - W. Maurice Morgan of Gainesville died Friday at his home. He was 85.
Mr. Morgan, a native of Asheville, N.C., moved to Gainesville six months ago. He lived most of his life in Bluefield, W.Va., and was a former resident of Athens, Ga., and Clearwater where he lived for 30 years.
A retired administrator with the city of Clearwater, Mr. Morgan also was the past lieutenant governor for the state of West Virginia Kiwanis International. Heserved in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Clearwater.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Morgan of Gainesville; a son, David Morgan of Gainesville; his nephew and caregiver, Dudley Calfee of Athens, Ga.; and a grandson.

Audrey Helen Draper
Audrey Helen Draper of Gainesville died April 24 at Shands at AGH. She was 77.
Mrs. Draper was a retired bank teller.
Born in New York City, she lived in Miami for 53 years before moving to Gainesville 19 years ago.
Survivors include a son, Charles Fulford Jr. of Marathon; and a sister, Julia Schwarzhoff of Hawthorne.
Bobby Joe Garner Sr.
Bobby Joe Garner Sr. of Kinston, N.C., died Jan. 30 after a boating accident off the shores of Beaufort, N.C. He was 52.
Mr. Garner was a safety manager for Smithfield Packing Co. in Kinston.
He was a lifelong resident of Kinston.
Survivors include three daughters, including Wanda G. Sutton and LeTrevia Garner, both of Gainesville; two sons, including Antony McCarlo Garner of Gainesville; two sisters; two brothers; and 12 grandchildren.
Bobby Joe Garner Jr.
Bobby Joe Garner Jr. of Kinston, N.C., was never found after a Jan. 30 boating accident in the Atlantic Ocean off Beaufort, N.C. He was 30.
Mr. Garner was a butcher at Smithfield Packing Co. in Kinston.
Born in Kinston, he moved from Gainesville back to Kinston four years ago. He attended Eastside High School.
Mr. Garner was a member of Pleasanthill Baptist Church in Gainesville.
Survivors include his mother, Ester Garner-Webb of Gainesville; three sons, Travis Garner of Gainesville, Joshua D. Dawson and Darionta J. Harper, both of Kinston; three sisters, Wanda G. Sutton and LeTrevia N. Garner, both of Gainesville, and Marlena Ellis of Kinston; two brothers, Antony McCarlo Garner of Gainesville and Bobby Vonta Suggs of Kinston; and his maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Mable Lee Isler of Kinston.
Leonard R. Kassvan
Leonard R. Kassvan of Gainesville died Thursday at Shands at the University of Florida. He was 68.
Mr. Kassvan was a customer service representative. He also served in the U.S. Army.
Born in New York City, he moved from New York City to Gainesville last year. Mr. Kassvan received a bachelor's degree from North Carolina.dk which college or city in n.c. He was Jewish.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy A. Kassvan of Gainesville; a son, Alex Kassvan of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two daughters, Debby Brideson and Ruth McKenzie, both of Brooklyn; and three granddaughters.
Marie Smith
Marie Smith of Gainesville died Thursday at her daughter's home in Gainesville after a long illness. She was 81.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a member of San Juan Catholic Church in Branford.
Born in Chicago, she moved from O'Brien to Gainesville last year.
Survivors include her husband, Rudolph L. Smith of Gainesville; five daughters, Rita Nonnemacher of Woodstock, Ill., Christine Rhodes of Island Lake, Ill., Madeleine Woolfolk of Gainesville, Rosemary Mielke of Janesville, Wis., and Dolores Lamela of Henderson, Nev.; five sons, Robert F. Smith of Canyon, Texas, Kenneth Smith of Stuart, Gregory Smith of Henderson, Paul Smith of Gainesville and Matthew Smith of Parma, Ohio; two brothers, Jerome Klug of Phoenix, Ariz., and Norbert Klug of Lake Tahoe, Nev.; 22 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
