Earline Hughes

NEWBERRY - Earline Hughes of Newberry died Wednesday in Gainesville after a long illness. She was 70.

Mrs. Hughes was an administrative assistant for SouthWestern Bell Co. She also volunteered for Belleville Hospital in Belleville, Ill.

Born in Farmington, Mo., she moved from Belleville to Gainesville eight years ago.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star and was past Queen of the Daughters of the Nile.

Survivors include her husband, John B. Hughes of Newberry; a daughter, Donna Marie Petrillo of Gainesville; a sister, Dolores Roethemeyer of Granite City, Ill.; and two grandsons.

Arthur Harper

BRANFORD - Arthur Harper of Branford died Thursday at his son's home in Branford. He was 91.

Mr. Harper was a farmer and a member of Christian Fellowship Church in Largo.

He was a lifelong resident of Branford.

Survivors include a daughter, Eva Jean Chula of Escondido, Calif.; four sons, Cecil Harper of Lake City, J.P. Harper of Branford, Edward Harper of Brazil and George R. Harper of Crystal River; 31 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Frances I. Behnke

Frances I. Behnke of Gainesville died Wednesday at Palm Gardens in Gainesville. She was 78.

Mrs. Behnke was a retired insurance underwriter for Florida Farm Bureau.

Born in Marathon, Wis., she moved from Marathon to Gainesville 55 years ago.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Cannon of Gainesville and Anita Furman of Shalimar; three brothers, John Drengler of Mosinee, Wis., Harvey Drengler of Marathon and Lauryn Drengler of Washington, D.C.; four sisters, Cora Jorgensen of Menasha, Wis., Lillian Krautkramer and Dorothy Levondoski, both of Marathon, and Betrice Wilke of Mosinee; and four grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to American Cancer Society.

James Calvin Boyd

FLORAHOME - James Calvin Boyd of Florahome died Tuesday at Columbia Putnam Medical Center in Palatka after a long illness. He was 80.

Mr. Boyd was a retired heavy-equipment operator. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Born in Alachua, he lived most of his life in Florahome.

Survivors include nine daughters, Ruth Bullard of Franklin, Ky., Ester Deleon, Bertha Curry and Doretha Boyd, all of Palatka, Janet Rivera of Mims, Jeanelle Lewis of Hawthorne, Minnie Snell of Putnam Hall, Dorothy Mondragon of Sebring and Joann Robinson of Newberry; three sons, James C. Boyd Jr. of Winter Haven, Jimmy Boyd of Sebring and David Boyd of Putnam Hall; 40 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren.

Gordon L. Millard

MIAMI - Gordon L. Millard of Miami died unexpectedly Monday in Miami. He was 40.

Mr. Millard was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

He was a lifelong resident of Miami and a graduate of Florida State University.

Survivors include his wife, Alicia Millard of Miami; his mother, Doris Millard of Gainesville; two sisters, including Melinda Gablehouse of Gainesville; and a brother.

Walter Ronald Smith

Walter Ronald "Ron" Smith of Gainesville died Tuesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a long illness. He was 62.

Mr. Smith was a cashier at Publix. He previously retired from Southern Bell. He also was a sportswriter for The Miami Herald and a sports announcer.

Born in St. Louis, he moved from Fort Lauderdale to Gainesville 18 years ago.

He was a member of North Gainesville Baptist Church, Southern Bell Pioneers and was a past president of Rotary International.

Survivors include three daughters, Donna Lynn Campenelli of Green Cove Springs, Sherrie Smith of Tampa and Kelli Smith of Graham; two sons, Michael Smith of Houston and David Smith of West Palm Beach; the mothers of his children, Mickey Smith and Diane Smith of Graham;dk where mickey lives a sister;dk name and one grandchild.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to North Gainesville Baptist Church Building Fund in Gainesville.

Leona Selph Wooley

LIVE OAK - Leona Selph Wooley of Live Oak died Wednesday at her home. She was 72.

Mrs. Wooley owned the former Wooley's Insurance Agency and Wooley's IGA.

Born in Williston, she lived most of her life in Live Oak.

Survivors include a son, John G. Wooley of Live Oak; two daughters, Patricia Wooley Hutchings of Jacksonville and DeAnna Williams of Live Oak; her mother, Vera Moses Hillhouse of Palatka; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Christine Anita Beasley

HAWTHORNE - Christine Anita Beasley of Hawthorne died Saturday at her home. She was 35.

Mrs. Beasley was a long-distance truck driver and a former waitress at Waffle House on SW 13th Street in Gainesville.

Born in Greenville, S.C., she moved from Fort Lauderdale to the Gainesville area eight years ago.

Survivors include her husband, Timothy Patrick Beasley of Hawthorne; a son, Tim Beasley Jr. of Hawthorne; two daughters, Margaret Beasley of Hawthorne and Kathy A. Rice of Pembroke, Ga.; her parents, John Blackstock of Interlachen and Margaret Blackstock of Greenville; two sisters, Yhonis Frint of South Carolinadk city and Kathy Rice of Georgia; and two brothers, John Blackstock Jr. and Greg Blackstock, both of South Carolina.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Hospice of North Central Florida in Gainesville.

Mary Leona Carter

CROSS CITY - Mary Leona Carter of Cross City died Tuesday at Nature Coast Hospital. She was 71.

Mrs. Carter was a cook for Anderson Elementary School in Cross City.

Born in Jesup, Ga., she moved from Melbourne to Cross City 42 years ago.

Mrs. Carter was a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Bud Carter.

Survivors include two sisters, Betty Rogers of Cross City and Lillie Reed of Melbourne; and a brother, William Jefferson Jr. of Cross City.

Vivian Harmon Harth

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS - Vivian Harmon Harth of Keystone Heights died Monday in Hampton after a long illness. She was 84.

Mrs. Harth was a retired registered nurse at Bradford County Hospital in Starke.

Born in Newtown, W.Va., she moved from Newtown to Keystone Heights 36 years ago.

She was a member of Friendship Bible Church in Keystone Heights.

Mrs. Harth was preceded in death by her husband, Clair E. Harth.

Survivors include a son, Bill Harth of Jacksonville Beach; two daughters, Kathleen Bergeron and Shirley Robertson, both of St. Augustine; two brothers, Herbert Harmon of Delbarton, W.Va., and Rex Harmon of Newtown; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Fred Crumidy

WILLISTON - Fred Crumidy of Williston died Sunday at Nature Coast Regional Hospital. He was 83.

Mr. Crumidy was a laborer and a Baptist.

Survivors include his caregiver, Henrietta Brown of Williston.
