Raymond Carl Langlas

Raymond Carl Langlas of Gainesville died Sunday at his home. He was 87.

Mr. Langlas was a retired contract specialist for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville. He also served in the Army Air Forces during World War II.

Born in Waukesha, Wis., he moved from Ann Arbor, Mich., to Gainesville 30 years ago.

He enjoyed bowling and golfing.

Mr. Langlas was preceded in death by a son, Donald Langlas.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth J. Langlas of Gainesville; and a daughter, Donna R. Green of Delaware, Ohio.

Sheila Elizabeth Merkison McElveen

WALDO -- Sheila Elizabeth Merkison McElveen of Waldo died Sunday at her sister's home in Worthington Springs after a long illness. She was 52.

Mrs. McElveen was a former dental assistant and owner of the former Sheila's Shack in Waldo.

Born in Fargo, N.D., she lived in Florida most of her life before moving to Waldo last year.

She was a Protestant.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas McElveen of Waldo; a daughter, JoHannah Brown Chavis of Florence, S.C.; two sons, James Batten II of Jacksonville and John Batten of Hastings; her mother, Sibyl C. Dix of Lake Butler; two sisters, Jean Harden of Worthington Springs and Marsha Price of Lake Butler; and five grand-children.

William Howard Pittman

William Howard Pittman of Gainesville died Friday in Gainesville. He was 56.

Mr. Pittman was an attorney.

Born in Shelbyville, Ind., he moved from Ocala to Gainesville 10 years ago.

He was a member of The Alaska Bar.

Mr. Pittman was a Protestant.

Survivors include a brother, Robert K. Pittman of San Jose, Calif.; a sister, Sandra L. Lawson of Ocala; three nieces; and three nephews.

Elmer H. Bell

Elmer H. Bell of Gainesville died Monday at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a long illness. He was 61.

Mr. Bell was a pharmacist. He was also a former mayor of Cairo, Ga.

He was born in Cairo and moved from Cairo to Gainesville 18 years ago. He graduated from the University of Georgia.

Mr. Bell was a former president of Walking Horse Association of Florida.

He was a Presbyterian.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Bell of Gainesville; a daughter, Michele Yurman of Manville, N.J.; a son, Michael Whitley of Atlanta; and two sisters, Harriet Willis of LaGrange, Ga., and Beverly Cliett of Tallahassee.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Hospice of North Central Florida in Gainesville.

Al K. Carlisle

STARKE -- Al K. Carlisle of Starke died Monday at Shands at AGH in Gainesville. He was 79.

Mr. Carlisle was a retired U.S. Army colonel. He served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

Born in Dunnellon, he moved from Ocala to Starke 23 years ago.

He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Starke.

Survivors include a son, James Carlisle of Ocala; a daughter, Janice Trujillo of Bernalillo, N.M.; a sister, Audrey Carlisle of Ocala; a stepson, Carl Robinson of Boxboro, Mass.; two stepdaughters, Elizabeth Ferry of Amherst, Mass., and Priscilla Poutenis of Groton, Mass.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Louis Hiram Carmichael

CRAWFORDVILLE -- Louis Hiram Carmichael of Crawfordville died Sunday in Tallahassee. He was 71.

Mr. Carmichael was born in Lafayette County and moved from Tallahassee to Crawfordville five years ago.

He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Carmichael of Crawfordville; a son; a stepson; a daughter; a stepdaughter; three sisters, including Velma Golden of Live Oak; and seven grandchildren.

Ruth Elizabeth Finnell

Ruth Elizabeth Finnell of Gainesville died Monday at her daughter's home in Gainesville. She was 85.

Mrs. Finnell was a homemaker.

Born in Johnstown, Pa., she moved from Johnstown to Gainesville 14 years ago.

She attended the Family Church in Gainesville.

Mrs. Finnell was preceded in death by a son, James Finnell.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Lionel Kurtz Finnell of Gainesville; a daughter, Linda Butler of Gainesville; four brothers, Merle Roseman of Johnstown, Ray Roseman of Endicott, N.Y., and Carl Roseman and Bob Roseman, both of Buffalo, N.Y.; two sisters, Grace Lear of Cleveland and Mary Clark of Johsntown; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Johnnie Lee Outlaw

ALACHUA -- Johnnie Lee Outlaw of Alachua died Monday at his home. He was 85.

Mr. Outlaw was a retired finishing carpenter.

Born in Dothan, Ala., he moved from Auburndale to Alachua 39 years ago.

He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jessie LoreneShaw Outlaw of Alachua; four daughters, Gwen O. Rousselle and Connie O. Hollander, both of Alachua, Pamela O. Dunlap of Tallahassee and Frances O. Chavez of Trenton; and eight grandchildren.

Richard Lawrence Stewart

BRONSON -- Richard Lawrence Stewart of Bronson died Sunday at his home. He was 72.

Mr. Stewart was a retired truck driver.

Born in Abbeville, Ala., he moved from Miami to Bronson five years ago.

He was a Baptist.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph Stewart of Bronson and David Stewart of Chicago; a daughter, Christine Salloum of Spring Hill; two sisters, Ann Cox of Chiefland and Christine Stewart of El Paso, Texas; and six grandchildren.

Donald Cue

Donald Ray Cue of Gainesville, a probation officer for Alachua County and volunteer in numerous community organizations, died Tuesday at Shands at AGH . He was 46.

Mr. Cue died following a brief illness.

A lifelong resident of Gainesville, Mr. Cue worked in the domestic violence division at the Alachua County Department of Court Services.

"Don was a person who constantly took in consideration the needs of others, " said Larry McDaniel, sentencing alternatives program manager for the Department of Court Services. "He was a shining light to this community. His primary goal in life was to see the betterment of the disenfranchised and the disadvantaged.

"Don was a tremendous person."

Mr. Cue was a member of the Black on Black Task Force Mentor Program, the United Way of Alachua County, Focus On Leadership, Alachua County Mental Health Association, Alachua County Equal Opportunity Division and the Florida Association of Community Corrections.

He was a 1970 graduate of Gainesville High School and a graduate of Santa Fe Community College.

He was a secretary, treasurer and member of the Local Fellowship, Promotions, and Victim Advocate Committee at the Southeast Tenth Avenue Church of Christ.

Survivors include his mother, Ethel Mae Flynn Cue of Gainesville; his father, Isaac Cue of Gainesville; two brothers, Charles Bradley and Michael Isaac Cue, both of Gainesville; and three sisters, Brenda Cue Washington of Fort Pierce, Linda Cue of Johnson and Gwendolyn Bradley of Gainesville.
