Virginia Geiser Chelf

Virginia Geiser Chelf of Gainesville died Sunday at North Florida Regional Medical Center.

She was 89.

Mrs. Chelf was a homemaker.

Born in Louisville, Ky., she lived in Lebanon, Ky., for 44 years before moving from Sellersburg, Ind., to Gainesville 25 years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Clarence C. Chelf.

Survivors include three sons, Don M. Chelf of Tampa, Fred M. Chelf of Gainesville and Bruce M. Chelf of Streamwood, Ill.; a sister, Lelah G. Berry of San Rafael, Calif.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Christian Family Services in Gainesville.

Alfred Ditzler

MELROSE -- Alfred Ditzler of Melrose died Sunday at his home.

He was 102.

Mr. Ditzler was a retired waiter and lumberjack.

Born in Basil, Switzerland, he moved from Gowanda, N.Y., to Melrose nine years ago.

He was a member of First Assembly of God in Keystone Heights and of the Waiters' Union.

Mr. Ditzler was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Ditzler; and a stepson, Paul Ditzler.

Survivors include his caregivers of 20 years, David and Lorna Gagnon of Melrose.

Margie Cassidy Holstun

JACKSONVILLE -- Margie Cassidy Holstun of Jacksonville died Sunday in Jacksonville after a long illness.

She was 70.

Mrs. Holstun was a homemaker.

Born in Gainesville, she lived in Lake City numerous years before moving to Jacksonville 13 years ago.

Survivors include her husband, Patterson W. Holstun of Jacksonville; two sons, the Rev. Tim Cassidy and Patrick Cassidy, both of Lake City; two daughters, including Teresa Hall of Lake City; three brothers, including Russell Woodard of Micanopy and Bill Woodard of Gainesville; a sister; six grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.

Victor Tod Lopez

BRONSON -- Victor Tod Lopez of Bronson died Friday at Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville after a long illness.

He was 37.

Mr. Lopez was a commercial fisherman in South Florida. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Born in Lenoir, N.C., he moved from Everglades City to Bronson six months ago.

Survivors include three daughters, Amber Lopez, Jeanne Lopez and Audrey Lopez, all of Fort Myers; his parents, Victor and Wilma Lopez of Bronson; his grandmother, Frances Lopez of Fort Myers; and five sisters, Leslie Toole of Durant, Crystal Jenkins of Valrico, Robin Kern of Bronson, Jessica Lundt of Plant City and Jennifer Beckett of Palm Bay.

Vassar Eugene Lowe Jr.

ORLANDO -- Vassar Eugene Lowe Jr. of Orlando died Friday.

He was 81.

Mr. Lowe was a retired accountant. He also served in the U.S. Army.

Born in Live Oak, he moved to Central Florida 49 years ago.

He was a Protestant and a member of Kiwanis of Orlando.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Lowe of Orlando; two daughters; and a sister, Rachel Mallard of Gainesville.

Marie Sunday Magee

Marie Sunday Magee of Brookings, Ore., died May 30 in Brookings, Ore.

She was 75.

Mrs. Magee was employed at the Department of Water and Power in Los Angeles. She also formerly worked at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

Born in Philadelphia, she moved from Melbourne to Brookings, Ore., last year.

She was a member of the Homemakers Club in Melbourne and was past president of the Garden Grove, Calif., Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include two daughters, including Marrie Magee-Robinson of Gainesville; two sisters; two brothers; and two grandchildren.

Edward J. Moses

LAKE CITY -- Edward J. "Ike" Moses of Lake City died Sunday at the Lake City VA Medical Center after a long illness.

He was 79.

Mr. Moses formerly owned and operated Moses' Produce. He was also a juvenile counselor, constable in the public defender's office as an investigator and a deputy sheriff in the civil department. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Born in Birmingham, Ala., he lived most of his life in Lake City.

He was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church and of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2206.

Survivors include his wife, Maurine Lady Moses of Lake City; a daughter, Linda Moses of Lake City; a son, Timothy J. Moses of Gainesville; a brother, David P. Moses of South Carolina; and three grandchildren.

Mable Nettles

NEWBERRY -- Mable Nettles of Newberry died Sunday at her home.

She was 98.

Mrs. Nettles was a homemaker and a member of Union Baptist Church.

Born in Alachua County, she was a lifelong resident of the area.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Quincey N. Nettles; a daughter, Marie Kinchen; and a son, W.J. Nettles.

Survivors include a daughter, Dolores Manning of Newberry; two sons, Elbert Nettles of Newberry and Willard Nettles of San Mateo; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Roy S. Palmer

NEWBERRY -- Roy S. Palmer of Newberry died Sunday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville.

He was 90.

Mr. Palmer was a retired farmer.

Born in Georgia, he lived most of his life in Newberry.

He was a deacon at First Baptist Church in Newberry.

Survivors include his wife, Clarice Holt Palmer of Newberry; a daughter, Joyce P. Jones of Newberry; a son, Roy W. Palmer of Cumberland, R.I.; a brother, William H. Palmer of Newberry; and two grandchildren.

Mary E. Ruston

ORLANDO -- Mary E. Ruston of Orlando died Sunday in Orlando.

She was 85.

Mrs. Ruston was born in Boswell, Ind., and moved from McIntosh to Orlando 10 years ago.

She was a member of McIntosh Presbyterian Church and of the Order of the Eastern Star in Indiana.

Mrs. Ruston was preceded in death by her husband, Wilber Roger Ruston.

Survivors include a niece and a nephew.
