Chester L. Pattison

Chester L. Pattison of Gainesville died Tuesday in Jacksonville Beach. He was 82.

Mr. Pattison was born in Zellwood and moved to Gainesville 22 years ago from Fort George Island, where he worked as a commercial fisherman.

For the past several years, Mr. Pattison's hobby was building small wooden replicas of shrimp boats, one of which is on display in the lobby of the Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City.

Mr. Pattison is survived by a son, Len Pattison.

Evelyn Ruth

Evelyn Ruth of Gainesville died Sunday in St. Augustine. She was 91.

Mrs. Ruth was a homemaker. Born in Dakota, Ill., she moved from Wilmette, Ill., to Gainesville 22 years ago.

Survivors include her sons, Byron Ruth and Monty Ruth of Gainesville and Donald Ruth of St. Augustine; her brother, Lester Wells of Cedarville, Ill.; 10 grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren.

Raleigh Simpson

Raleigh Simpson of Williston died Sunday at Shands at AGH in Gainesville. He was 87.

Mr. Simpson was a retired laborer. Born in Fitzgerald, Ga., he lived in Williston most of his life.

Survivors include his daughters, Cora Williams of Gainesville and Vanessa Reid of Williston; two sisters, Julia Mae Wallace of Williston and Lela Mae Thompson of Washington D.C.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mark Tadeusz Jaroszewicz

Memorial services for Mark Tadeusz Jaroszewicz will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 2, at Holy Faith Catholic Church, 700 NW 39th Road.

Dewitt Arnold

BRANFORD -- Dewitt Arnold of Branford died Wednesday at Shands at Lakeshore in Lake City after a long illness. He was 70.

Mr. Arnold was a farmer.

He was a lifelong resident of Lafayette County.

He was a past board member of the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service, a charter member of Hatchbend and Lafayette Hunting Clubs, and he was a member of Hatchbend Baptist Church and the Woodmen of the World.

Survivors include his wife, Jacque Arnold of Branford; three daughters, Carolyn Graham of Green Cove Springs, Michele Adair of Bristow, Va., and Barbara Herndon of Perry; two sons, David Arnold of Hatchbend and John F. McCauley of Perry; three brothers, J.W. Arnold and Howard Arnold, both of Branford, and Kenny Arnold of Lake Butler; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Paul Florence III

Paul "Zanny" Florence III of Gainesville died Thursday at Shands at the University of Florida after a short illness. He was 68.

Mr. Florence was a welder, master plumber and a contractor. He manufactured trailers in Gainesville and did wrought-iron work for craft shows.

Born in Orlando, he moved from Jacksonville to Gainesville 34 years ago.

He attended the University of Florida and Jacksonville University.

Mr. Florence was a member of Holy Faith Catholic Church in Gainesville.

He was a former commander of Gulf Atlantic Yacht Club.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Florence of Gainesville; three sons, Paul R. Florence IV of Archer, and Joseph B. Florence and Michael Florence, both of Gainesville; a daughter, Leslie M. Florence of Gainesville; a sister, Mary Ann Stager of Houston; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

John B. Morgan

John B. Morgan of Gainesville died Wednesday at Shands at the University of Florida. He was 70.

Mr. Morgan was the builder and former owner of Oak Park in Gainesville. He also was a retired correctional officer.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Born in Perry, he moved from Pensacola to Gainesville 27 years ago.

He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Eubanks Morgan of Gainesville; two sons, John Robin Morgan of Pensacola and Clifford Keyton Morgan of Gainesville; and one granddaughter.

William Erasti Sherman III

DELAND -- William Erasti Sherman III of DeLand died Monday at his home.

He was 43.

Mr. Sherman was a writer. He also worked in the library system at the University of Florida before retiring four years ago due to multiple sclerosis.

Born in DeLand, he moved from Gainesville back to DeLand four years ago. He received a bachelor's degree in English from UF.

He received the Hemingway Award for one of his short stories.

Survivors include his father, William Sherman Jr. of DeLand; and his mother, Frances Sherman of DeLand.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society in Orlando.

Robert Leo Wilson

Robert Leo Wilson of Gainesville died Wednesday in Gainesville. He was 69.

Mr. Wilson formerly owned Dixie Cream Doughnut Shop. He also was employed at the Gainesville Police Department and later worked at West End Golf Course. He served in the U.S. Navy.

Born in Marshall, Ill., he moved from Marshall to Gainesville 47 years ago.

He was a member of American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and Gainesville Lodge No. 41 F&AM.;

Mr. Wilson was a Presbyterian.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Jones Wilson of Gainesville; a daughter, Katherine Wilson Bates of Gainesville; a son, Robert T. Wilson of Gainesville; his mother, Ava Wilson of Gainesville; three sisters, Charlotte Conn and Beverly Kelly, both of Gainesville, and Gladys Willison of Hammond, Ind.; and three grandchildren.

Catherine Link

ORLANDO -- Catherine Link of Orlando died Monday in Orlando. She was 56.

Mrs. Link was a homemaker and a member of Mount Olive C.M.E. in Orlando.

Born in Gainesville, she moved to Orlando nine years ago.

Survivors include a son; her stepmother, Ida Chisholm of Gainesville; three brothers, including Rudolph Chisholm of Gainesville; three sisters, including Henry Mae Chisholm of Hawthorne; and four grandchildren.

Esther Louise Owens

TRENTON -- Esther Louise Owens of Trenton died Thursday in Chiefland. She was 80.

Mrs. Owens was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Trenton.

Born in Russell, Pa., she moved from Kentucky to Trenton 12 years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Quay Revere Owens.

Survivors include a son, Terry Owens of Trenton; a daughter, Monica Pipkins of Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters, Elaine Padilla of Chiefland and Muriel Owens of Trenton; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
