Leon Jasper Padgett

Leon Jasper "L.J." Padgett of Melrose died Saturday at Shands at AGH following a short illness. He was 76.

He was born in Maxville and moved to Melrose in 1989 from Jacksonville. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Keystone Heights and was retired from the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad.

He was a member of the Woodstock Masonic Lodge 313, the Scottish Rite Bodies and the Morocco Temple of Jacksonville. He was a University of Florida Gator Booster.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Pringle Padgett of Melrose; a daughter, Janet C. Padgett of Melrose; two sons, Curtis L. Padgett of Tallahassee and Chris L. Padgett of Brandon; five sisters, Nell Beall of Brunswick, Ga., and Ella Mae Edwards, Elizabeth Denny, Natalie Wallace, Daphne Walker, all of Jacksonville; and six grandchildren.

Effie Harvard Davis

WEST COLUMBIA, Texas -- Effie Harvard Davis of West Columbia, Texas, died Friday at Sweeny Community Hospital in Sweeny, Texas, after a long illness. She was 87.

Mrs. Davis was a retired schoolteacher and a homemaker.

Born in Dothan, Ala., she moved from Starke to West Columbia 12 years ago.

She was a Sunday school teacher, a member of First Baptist Church in West Columbia and a former member of Madison Street Baptist Church in Starke.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. John H. Davis.

Survivors include a daughter; a sister; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

William Clinton Helton

WALDO -- William Clinton Helton of Waldo died Saturday at his nephew's home in Waldo. He was 68.

Mr. Helton was a retired barber. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Born in Pensacola, he moved from Newberry to Waldo three years ago.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Helton and C.H. Helton, both of Gainesville.

Harry Lee Jamerson

JACKSONVILLE -- Harry Lee Jamerson of Jacksonville died Saturday in Jacksonville. He was 67.

Mr. Jamerson was a retired office manager for Chrysler Credit Corp.

Born in Arredondo, he moved from Gainesville to Jacksonville 32 years ago. He enjoyed fishing.

Mr. Jamerson was a Presbyterian.

Survivors include his wife, Martha McKinney Jamerson of Jacksonville; two daughters; his mother, Ruby Cellon Jamerson of Gainesville; three brothers, Bill Jamerson, John Jamerson and Ernie Jamerson, all of Gainesville; a sister, Peggy Jamerson of Gainesville; and five grandchildren.

Noreen A. Sigona

Noreen A. Sigona of Gainesville died Saturday at her home. She was 50.

Mrs. Sigona was a former data entry manager for the Shoe Town retail chain and later was a data circulation manager for Newsweek Magazine. In Florida, she was a home health care manager for several agencies.

Born in Newark, N.J., she lived most of her life in New Jersey before moving from Newark to Gainesville nine years ago. She attended Stafford Hall School of Business in New Jersey and Santa Fe Community College.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening and playing the piano.

Survivors include her husband, Carmelo J. Sigona of Gainesville; a daughter, Alexandra N. Sigona of Gainesville; a son, Carmelo A. Sigona of Parsippany, N.J.; her mother, Nora Abruzzese of Gainesville; and a brother, Alfred Abruzzese of Houston.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the family in Gainesville, to the Melanoma Research Foundation in San Leandro, Calif., or to the Gainesville Sons of Italy Scholarship Fund.

Alvin Leo Brand

Alvin Leo "Fuzzy" Brand of Gainesville died July 8 in Gainesville because of an accident. He was 33.

Mr. Brand was a lifelong resident of Gainesville.

He was a Baptist.

Mr. Brand enjoyed playing football.

Survivors include his mother, Mary F. Reaves of Gainesville; seven brothers, Thomas L. Brand Jr. of Homersville, Ga., Eddie L. Brand of Los Angeles, Johnnie L. Brand of Starke, Larry D. Brand of Gainesville, Calvin C. Brand of Norfolk, W.Va., Vernon L. Brand of Punta Gorda and Michael D. Robinson of Zephyrhills; six sisters, Ann Ruth Atkins, Eloise Brand and Margaret B. Boston, all of Gainesville, Darlene Manning of Archer, Janice Locke of Hyattsville, Md., and Vanessa Brand of Titusville.

Jessie M. Haviland

MICANOPY -- Jessie M. Haviland of Micanopy died Monday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville after a brief illness. She was 88.

Mrs. Haviland was a homemaker.

Born in Smithtown, Long Island, N.Y., she moved from Smithtown to Micanopy 47 years ago.

She was a Methodist.

Mrs. Haviland was preceded in death by her husband, James Eugene Haviland.

Survivors include a son, Jay E. Haviland of Micanopy; four daughters, Jessie McDonald of Fort Pierce, Nannette Haviland of Micanopy, Mary Haviland of Winter Haven and Norma Mitchell of Alachua; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Hospice of North Central Florida in Gainesville.

LaRue Hendrix

McINTOSH - LaRue Hendrix of McIntosh died Tuesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. She was 90.

Mrs. Hendrix was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church of McIntosh.

Born in Rockford, Ala., she lived most of her life in McIntosh.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Winston A. Hendrix.

Survivors include three daughters, Meris Ann Colicchio of Madeira Beach, Jeanne Ziegler of Lowell and Sara Lou Eastman of Gainesville; a son, Alvin Hendrix of McIntosh; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to First United Methodist Church in McIntosh.

Katherine T. Logan

Katherine T. Logan of Gainesville died Saturday at Palm Gardens of Gainesville. She was 87.

Mrs. Logan was a retired teacher in Fairfax, Va.

Born in Salem, Va., she moved from Stuart to Gainesville six years ago.

Survivors include three nephews, including D. Burks Hunt of Gainesville.

Jeffrey Thomas Parker

WILLISTON -- Jeffrey Thomas Parker of Williston died unexpectedly Sunday near Williston. He was 4.

Jeffrey attended Kids'n Company in Williston and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Williston.

Jeffrey was an avid viewer of the television show "Barney & Friends" and enjoyed anything to do with the movie "101 Dalmations."

Jeffrey was born in Gainesville.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Tabatha O'dell and T. C. Newman of Williston; his father, Doyle Parker of Mississippi; maternal grandfather, Donald O'dell of New York; paternal grandmother, Debra Zuckerman of Mississippi; paternal grandfather, Jeff Zuckerman of Williston; maternal step-grandfather, Charles Dewberry of Bronson; and maternal great-grandfathers, Deszo Tibold of New York and John Allen of North Carolina.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the First United Methodist Church of Williston.
