Cleveland Roosevelt Johnson Jr.

Cleveland Roosevelt Johnson Jr. of Gainesville died Monday at Shands at AGH after a brief illness. He was 54.

He was a retired wastewater plant operator for Gainesville Regional Utilities. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Born in McMeekin, he moved from Hawthorne to Gainesville 20 years ago.

He was a member of Mount Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Edgar.

Survivors include his companion, Shirley Ricks of Gainesville; two sons, Melvin Johnson and Troy Johnson, both of Gainesville; a daughter, Maxine Johnson of Gainesville; his parents, Cleveland R. Johnson Sr. and Maxine D. Johnson of Hawthorne; four sisters, Harriet Gordon, Melva McPhadden, Deborah McGruder and Mary Johnson, all of Hawthorne; and 11 grandchildren.

Herbert Anthony Langston

LONGWOOD - Herbert Anthony Langston of Longwood died Wednesday at his son's home in Longwood. He was 88.

Mr. Langston was a retired insurance agent and a retired schoolteacher. He also retired from the Army Air Forces as a lieutenant colonel.

He was a a civil defense director, charter member of Cross City Volunteer Fire Department, president of the Cross City Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club, and chairman of the American Red Cross and American Cancer Society in Dixie County. He also delivered Christmas baskets and helped Meals on Wheels.

He was a lifelong resident of Cross City before moving to Longwood five months ago. He was a 1931 graduate of the University of Florida.

Mr. Langston was a member of the Dixie County School Board and was a treasurer at Cross City United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Liles Langston.

Survivors include two sons, Herbert Langston Jr. of Longwood and Stephen Langston of Stone Mountain, Ga.; three daughters, Betty Nell Mills and Susan Langston, both of Cross City, Phyllis Stopford of Orlando; and a sister, Annette Long of Cross City; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to United Christian Services of Dixie County or to the Cross City United Methodist Church, both in Cross City.

Frank Nelson

FORT LAUDERDALE -- Frank Nelson of Fort Lauderdale died Saturday at North Broward Medical Center Hospice in Pompano Beach. He was 75.

Mr. Nelson was formerly employed in maintenance at Broward Community College.

Born in Hawthorne, he moved to Broward County 40 years ago.

He attended New Hope United Methodist Church in Hawthorne.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise King Nelson of Fort Lauderdale; three sons; three daughters; a sister, Julia Mae Gordon of Hawthorne; two brothers; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Jordan Standridge

ARCHER - Elizabeth Jordan Standridge, infant, of Archer died Tuesday at The Women's Center of North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville.

She was a Catholic.

Survivors include her parents, Melissa and James Allen Standridge of Gainesville, a brother, Ethan Standridge of Gainesville; paternal grandparents, Jake and Laura Standridge and Glenda and Alan Heft;dk cities maternal grandparents, Dr. John and Donna M. Boyle of Gainesville and Donna D. Boyle of Blairsville, Ga.; paternal great-grandmother, Hazel Cox of Gainesville; and maternal great-grandmother, Dolores Snead of Blairsville.

Luther A. Thomas

Luther A. Thomas of Gainesville died June 17 at Shands at AGH after a long illness. He was 61.

Mr. Thomas was an auto mechanic. He also served in the U.S. Army.

Born in Fairbanks, he moved from Fairbanks to Gainesville.

He was a 1958 graduate of Lincoln High School.

Mr. Thomas was a member of Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church.

Survivors include two sons, Winston Thomas of Gainesville and Mark Allen of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a daughter, Leslie Thomas of Atlanta; seven sisters, Mable Crawford of Archer, Princess Simmons of Long Island, N.Y., and Katie Thomas, Mary Edwards, Martha Miller, Viola Thomas and Barbara Thomas, all of Gainesville; and one grandchild.

Ruby Mae Cudjo Wilson

Ruby Mae Cudjo Wilson of Gainesville died June 17 at Shands at AGH after a sudden illness. She was 59.

Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker and a member of Old Jerusalem Baptist Church.

She was a lifelong resident of Gainesville.

Survivors include her mother, Maude Cudjo of Gainesville; a daughter, Helen E. Wilson of Gainesville; two sons, Albert Wilson III of Fort Myers and Johnny Wilson of Gainesville; a sister, Ada Mae Gainey of Gainesville; three brothers, Charles Cudjo of Gainesville, Mack Cudjo of Birmingham, Ala., and Johnny Cudjo of Williston; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Althea Koontz Brown

Althea Koontz Brown of Gainesville died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a short illness. She was 86.

Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Gainesville. She attended Lincoln High School.

She was a member of Powerful Elders, Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and was a charter member of S. Marion Weeks Club and the Mount Pleasant Bible class and prayer band.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty B. Clark of Gainesville; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Sarah E. McKnight Camps

Sarah E. McKnight Camps of Gainesville died Sunday at Alachua Nursing Care Center after a long illness. She was 66.

Mrs. Camps was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Gainesville. She was a 1951 graduate of Lincoln High School.

She was first lady of the church at Newnans Lake Church of God By Faith, where she was a member of Mothers Board, Home Mission, Willing Workers Club and the choir.

Survivors include four sons, Dr. Joseph Camps Jr. of Tallahassee, Calvin Camps, Waldon Camps and Steven Camps, all of Gainesville; five daughters, Carolyn Cowan of Venice, Cheryl Green and Karen Alford, both of Gainesville, Judith Matthews of Birmingham, Ala., and Jacqueline Lewis of Hampton, Va.; six brothers, Horace A. McKnight, Bishop James E. McKnight, Aaron McKnight, Alfred McKnight and Elder Willie McKnight, all of Gainesville, and Elder Charles McKnight of Maitland; two sisters, Betty M. Hutchinson of Gainesville and Gloria Daymon of Rochester, N.Y.; her stepmother, Julia M. McKnight of Ocala; and 22 grandchildren.

Willie James Davis

TRENTON -- Willie James Davis of Trenton died June 17 at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. He was 46.

Mr. Davis served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Born in Madison, he moved from Madison to Trenton 47 years ago.

He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Survivors include his companion, Georgia Hall of Trenton; a son, Willie Davis of Chiefland; a stepson, Tommie Hall Jr. of Trenton; four stepdaughters, Floretha Hall, Jennifer Hall and Casaundra Pinkney, all of Trenton, and Angela Moore of Gainesville; 12 brothers, Edward Williams, Howard Bennett, John Cooks and Isaac Cooks, all of Madison, Felton Bennett, Earl Bennett, Freddy Bennett and Leroy Cooks, all of Fort Lauderdale, Ulysses Davis of Miami, Sylvester Davis and Andrew Davis, both of Jacksonville Beach, and George Stapleton of Trenton; 10 sisters, Deloris Wesley, Edith Glee, Bertha Bennett and Cassandra Bennett, all of Madison, Lorene Hogan, Rosa Lee Mitchem, Doris Brown, Dorothy Lindsey and Mary Love Davis, all of Trenton, and Josephine Dixon of Clearwater.

Tom H. Hudson

LAKE CITY -- Tom H. Hudson of Lake City died Wednesday at University Medical Center from injuries received in an automobile accident on June 19 near his home on U.S. 47 South in Lake City. He was 80.

Mr. Hudson was a self-employed home builder and was previously employed at Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Tampa.

Born in Live Oak, he moved from Tampa to Lake City 36 years ago.

He was a founder of Riverhills Church of God in Tampa and of Evangel Church of God in Lake City.

Mr. Hudson attended the Christ Central Ministries Church of Lake City and was involved with Florida Sheriff's Boy's Ranch of Live Oak.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Myrle Hudson of Lake City; three daughters, Sandra L. Hudson of Tampa, Joyce J. Plumlee of Ponte Vedra Beach and Murvyn L. Graham of Lake City; a son, Wayne T. Hudson of Lake City; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Lockhart

MORRISTON -- Dorothy Lockhart of Morriston died Thursday at Nature Coast Regional Hospital in Williston. She was 73.

Mrs. Lockhart was a homemaker and a member of Gulf Hammock Church of God.

Born in Iaeger, cq W.Va., she moved from Panther, W.Va., to Morriston 19 years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Lockhart; and a daughter, Judith Kay.

Survivors include two sons, Roger Lockhart of Morriston and David Lockhart of Iaeger, W.Va.; four daughters, Sue Lee of Stafford, Va., Vicki McBride of Welch, W.Va., Rhonda Heath and Lori Clark, both of Morriston; a sister, Ann Stacey of Morriston; nine grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
