Alfonso Louis Rivers
WALDO -- Alfonso "Peter" Louis Rivers died Sunday at North Florida Special Care Center after a lingering illness. He was 82.
He was a lifelong resident of Waldo.
Mr. Rivers attended the public schools of Alachua County. He was a retired U.S. Railroad Employee with the Seaboard Coastline Railroad.
He was a member of the Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir. He was also a member of the True Light Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Gibson-Rivers of Waldo; four daughters, Gwendolyn R. Spradley of St. Petersburg, Catherine Baisden and Phyllis Rivers, both of Gainesville, and Debbie Rivers of Waldo; three sons, Alfonso L. Rivers Jr. and Jeffrey Rivers, both of Gainesville, and Richard R. Rivers of Waldo; two stepdaughters, Shirley M. Jones and Cherristine Peterson, both of Gainesville; a stepson, Ellis Pelham of Waldo; a stepmother, Elouise Rivers Mack of Gainesville; 20 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Frank Henry Bourlay Jr.
Frank Henry Bourlay Jr. of Gainesville died Sunday in the Alachua Nursing Center. He was 81.
Mr. Bourlay was born in Ocala and lived in Gainesville most of his life. He had a degree in horticulture from the University of Florida and was a retired supervisor for parks and grounds for the city of Gainesville. Mr. Bourlay was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a Baptist.
Survivors include a son, Bruce Bourlay of Gainesville; a sister, Joyce Hambrick of Nashville, Tenn.; and one grandchild.
Sierra Jasmine Desrosiers
HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - Sierra Jasmine Desrosiers of Hopkinsville, Ky., died Thursday at a hospital in Hopkinsville. She was 3 months old.
Sierra was Baptist.
Sierra is survived by her parents, Frank and Jessica Desrosiers of Hopkinsville; four grandparents, Tami and Frank Desrosiers of Tampa and Sandra and Dan Callahan of Conyers, Ga.; and five great-grandparents, Billy and Leonard Brady of Steinhatchee, Cecil Faison of Trenton and Betty and Edwin Griffin of Decatur, Ga.
Elbert Carter Jackson Jr.
Elbert Carter "Jack" Jackson Jr. of Gainesville died Saturday at North Florida Rehab and Specialty Care Center. He was 84.
Mr. Jackson was a pharmacist and graduate of the University of Florida. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Jackson was born in Tallapoosa, Ga., and moved to Gainesville from Homestead in 1985.
He was a member of University United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Wright Jackson.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas Carter Jackson of Hollywood, Md., Robert W. Jackson of Gainesville and John S. Jackson of Homestead; a daughter, Judith C. Knight of Sarasota; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Geri Jones
KEYSTONE HEIGHTS -- Geri Jones of Keystone Heights died Saturday at her home after a brief illness. She was 66.
Mrs. Jones was a homemaker.
Mrs. Jones was born in Buffalo, N.Y, and moved to Gainesville from Fort Lauderdale in 1996.
She was a Catholic.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband, Robert C. Jones of Keystone Heights; a daughter, Sharon Mahoney of Houston; two sons, Thomas F. Jones of Keystone Heights and Mark M. Jones of Amelia Island; her mother, Viola B. Michels of Falls, Penn.; two sisters, Carolyn Smith of Falls and Sandra Mayer of Derby, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.
Roberta Agnes White
LIVE OAK -- Roberta Agnes White of Live Oak died Monday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 77.
Mrs. White was born in Levy County. She was a homemaker and member of Concord Baptist Church in Chiefland.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Arlene McTyre of Live Oak; four sons, William Miller of Glen St. Mary, Jimmie Miller of Wetumpka, Ala., Jerry Miller of Astatula and Leo Guzzo of Lake City; a stepson, Llewellyn White of Gainesville; a stepdaughter, Gayle White of Newberry; a half-sister, Sarah Peterson of Jasper; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great- grandchildren.
W.A. Stringfellow
WINTER HAVEN -- W.A. "Bill" Stringfellow of Winter Haven died Monday at Winter Haven Hospital. He was 73.
Mr. Stringfellow was an industrial engineer at IMC Phosphate in Bartow. He also served in the U.S. Navy.
He was born in Jacksonville and grew up in Gainesville. He moved from Bartwo to Winter Haven two years ago.
He graduated from P.K. Yonge.
Mr. Stringfellow was a member of the Bartwo Rotary Club, Florida Nurserymen and Growers Association, Peace River Country Club Board and past president of the Bartow Chamber of Commerce. He was chairman of the Bartow Memorial Hospital Board.
Survivors include three daughters; two stepsons; two ex-wives; and six grandchildren.
Shelby Lee Brothers
MADISON -- Shelby Lee Brothers of Madison died Wednesday at Lake Park of Madison Nursing Center. He was 91.
He was born in White Plains, Ky.
Mr. Brothers served as a county extension agent in Madison and Lafayette counties from 1933-1956. He was assistant agronomist for the state of Florida from 1956-1966.
He was a member of the Madison Rotary Club, the Madison Country Club and the Men's Brotherhood.
He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Madison.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Bollinger of Casselberry; a sister, Ruth Edwards of Silver Springs, Md.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Paul Everett Gay
Paul Everett Gay of Gainesville died Tuesday at Shands at AGH. He was 52.
He was born in Marion, Ohio.
Mr. Gay was an employee of the Alachua County Health Department before becoming disabled.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Gay of Gainesville; and three brothers, Jack Gay of Florida, Charles Gay of Marion, Ohio, and Clyde Gay of El Paso, Texas.
Leona Sims Gunter
BRANFORD -- Leona Sims Gunter of Branford died suddenly Monday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 92.
She was born in Lafayette County.
Mrs. Gunter received a master's of education from the University of Florida in 1952 and taught in the Florida public school system for 47 years.
She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Branford Woman's Club.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Branford.
Survivors include three sisters, Exolona Jones and Leota Fletcher, both of Branford, and Faye Cribbs of Tallahassee; and a brother, Leon Sims of Tallahassee.
Carrie Payton
MICANOPY -- Carrie Payton died Friday at Hospice House of North Central Florida. She was 85.
She was born in Winnsboro, S.C., and moved to Micanopy 74 years ago.
Mrs. Payton was a retired housekeeper.
She was a member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Maggie Walker and Gloria P. Ellis, both of Washington, D.C., Gwendolyn Capers of Oxonhill, Md., and Mildred P. Brown of Reddick; two sons, Wesley Payton Jr. of Micanopy and Johnny Payton of Fredericksburg, Va.; two sisters, Mary J. Graham of Riviera Beach and Rebecca Hall of Rochelle; two brothers, James M. Gill of Micanopy and Lewis Dawkins of Baltimore; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
