Dave L. Goodwin
Dave L. Goodwin of Gainesville died Thursday at his home after a long illness. He was 65.
Mr. Goodwin was an architect. He completed the health science building at Santa Fe Community College.
He was born in Peoria, Ill., and moved to Florida in 1957. He came here 17 years ago from Winter Park.
Mr. Goodwin's community efforts included architectural work for the ACORN Clinic in Brooker.
Survivors include his wife, Victoria Goodwin of Gainesville; his parents, Charles and Dorothea Goodwin of Illinois; and a daughter, Jeannett Berow of Illinois.
James William Lyons
MAYO - James William Lyons of Mayo died Jan. 20 at his daughter's home in Mayo. He was 90.
A lifelong resident of Mayo, Mr. Lyons was a farmer. He also served for 60 years as deacon at Riverside Baptist Church in Mayo.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Nolon Lyons.
Survivors include his wife, Willow Lee Lyons of Mayo; a son, Roland Lyons of Mayo; a daughter, Eliza Jackson of Mayo; two sisters, Mattie Peele of Dunedin; Virlin Bradford of Clearwater; three brothers, Charles Lyons of Mayo, Eldridge Lyons of Lake Park, Ga., and Bob Lyons of Fort Myers; seven grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.
Alfonso Mercado
BRONSON - Alfonso Mercado of Bronson died in rural Bronson. He was 85.
He had been missing since Dec. 28 and was found on Jan. 20.
Mr. Mercado was a retired ward supervisor at King's Park Mental Institution in New York and a house builder.
He was born in Rincon, Puerto Rico, and came to Bronson 18 years ago.
Mr. Mercado enjoyed fishing and painting.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Hacking.
Survivors include his wife, Lydia Margarita Mercado of Bronson; two daughters, Irene Ponte of Gold Beach, Ore., and Sylvia Schenk of Bronson; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will gather at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Schenk residence for a wake.
Robert O. Wood
WILLISTON - Robert O. Wood of Williston died Saturday at his home. He was 69.
Mr. Wood was a retired production spray painter for Martin Marietta in Orlando.
He was born in in Hendersonville, N.C., and came to Williston seven years ago from Waynesville, Ga.
Mr. Wood was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, June Henry Wood of Williston; three daughters, Ruth Farrell of DeLand, Barbara Clark of Lenoir City, Tenn., and Debra Lovejoy of Apopka; one son, John Wood of Mount Dora; two sisters, Mildred Winters of Spartanburg, S.C., and Evelyn Hardy of Apopka; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
David Samuel Boree Sr.
MIDDLEBURG - David Samuel Boree Sr. of Middleburg died Tuesday at his home after a long illness. He was 36.
Mr. Boree was a former building contractor and owner of B&H; Interior Systems Inc.
He was born in Starke and was a lifelong resident of Middleburg.
Mr. Boree was a member of the First Black Creek Baptist Church.
He was the founder and president of the Double Gate Hunting Club in Middleburg.
Survivors include a daughter, Chelsea D. Boree of Middleburg; a son, David S. Boree Jr. of Middleburg; his parents, Levi and Kathy Boree of Middleburg; a sister, Betty Brackett of Lake Butler; two brothers, Douglas E. Boree of Jacksonville and Paul T. Boree of Middleburg; his maternal grandmother, Zeila Johns of Starke; and the mother of his children, Lisa D. Boree of Middleburg.

Gordon D. Buckley
MELROSE - Gordon D. Buckley of Melrose died Sunday at his home. He was 85.
Mr. Buckley was a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army and had served in World War II and the Korean War. He also was a former United Nations observer in India.
He was born in Watertown, Mass., and moved from Australia to Melrose 28 years ago.
Mr. Buckley was a member of the St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Keystone Heights, the Keystone Heights Lions Club and the Retired Officers Association.
Survivors include his wife, Maisie Buckley of Melrose; a son, Robert L. Buckley of Chicago; a daughter, Joan Elizabeth Othon of Panama; and six grandchildren.
Modies Calhoun
FORT WHITE - Modies "Slim" Calhoun of Fort White died Jan. 28 at Lake Shore Hospital in Lake City. He was 84.
Mr. Calhoun was a retired truck driver for High Springs Peanut Mill.
He was born in High Springs and moved to Fort White 34 years ago.
Mr. Calhoun was a member of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Fort White.
Survivors include his wife, Lennie Freeney Calhoun of High Springs; three daughters, Erma Mobley of Lake City, Wilhemenia Collier of High Springs and Deborah Brown of Fort White; two sons, Jerome Calhoun and Freddie Calhoun, both of Fort White; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Linden Kinder Cannon Jr.
JACKSONVILLE - Col. Linden Kinder Cannon Jr. of Jacksonville died Jan. 28 at his home. He was 84.
Col. Cannon served for 30 years in the U.S. Army, including during World War II.
After retiring from the Army, Col. Cannon moved to Gainesville, where he served as the United Way executive director and vice president of the Atlantic First National Bank of Gainesville.
Born in in Sarasota, Col. Cannon grew up in Lake City. He graduated in 1936, from the University of Florida, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He lived in Gainesville for about nine years and moved from Crystal River to Jacksonville three years ago.
While in Gainesville, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Retired Officers Association.
Col. Cannon was preceded in death by his wife, Winona Williamson Cannon.
Survivors include two daughters, Selby Cannon Kaiser and Linda Cannon McMorrow, both of Jacksonville; a son, Linden Kinder Cannon III of Jacksonville; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

James Casey
James "Pat" Casey of Gainesville died Tuesday at Shands at AGH after a long illness. He was 76.
Mr. Casey was a retired insurance broker.
He was born in Lansing, Mich., and moved from Raleigh, N.C., to Gainesville eight years ago.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Marjorie L. Casey of Gainesville; two daughters, Nancy C. Darr of Gainesville and Jill C. Gerber of Barrington, Ill.; and four grandchildren.
Michael Jeffrey Chambers
Michael Jeffrey Chambers of Gainesville died Monday at Shands at the University of Florida. He was 40.
Mr. Chambers owned and operated the Blue Chip Game Room in the Royal Park Plaza.
He was a lifelong resident of Gainesville.
Survivors include two sisters, Joan Chambers of High Springs and Jean C. Free of Apollo Beach.
