Frances H. Boyles

ATLANTIC BEACH - Frances H. Boyles of Atlantic Beach died Monday at St. Luke's Hospital in Jacksonville. She was 82.

Mrs. Boyles was a homemaker.

Born in Independence, Kan., she moved from Live Oak to Atlantic Beach four years ago.

She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mrs. Boyles was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene H. Boyles.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Albert of Gainesville and Magi Taber of Glen St. Mary; two sons, David J. Boyles of Madison and Frederick H. Boyles of Americus, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Minnie Selma Culver Brown

CALLAHAN - Minnie Selma Culver Brown of Callahan died Tuesday at Sears Manor Nursing Home in Brunswick, Ga. She was 68.

Mrs. Brown was a homemaker.

Born in Brunswick, Ga., she moved from Jacksonville to Callahan 18 years ago.

Survivors include her husband, Leon D. Brown of Callahan; two sons; a daughter, Cindy Douglas of Williston; two brothers; a sister; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Sheppard Bryan

Sheppard Bryan of Gainesville died Tuesday at North Florida Regional Hospital after a short illness. He was 89.

The Rev. Bryan was born in Greenville, Ala., and moved from Cordele, Ga., to Gainesville 17 years ago.

He was a retired Baptist minister and worked as pastor of the First Baptist Church in Cordele and at North Central Baptist Church in Gainesville. After his retirement he served as an interim pastor for 24 churches throughout Florida.

The Rev. Bryan received his bachelor's degree at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., and his master's at the South Western Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II, where he was a chaplain and a major.

The Rev. Bryan was a member of Parkview Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Baker Bryan.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Pinckard Taylor of Phenix City, Ala.

Expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of donations to Antioch Baptist Church or the Parkview Baptist Church Building Fund.

Bessie Bush

Bessie Bush of Gainesville died Wednesday in Gainesville. She was 82.

Mrs. Bush was a cashier at Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Born in Philadelphia, she moved from Miami to Gainesville 17 years ago.

Mrs. Bush was Jewish and a member of the Hadassah.

Survivors include a daughter, Dianne H. Berman of Gainesville; two sons, Murray R. Bush of Pennsauken, N.J., and Harvey Bush of Miami; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Sweetie M. Byrum

HAWTHORNE - Sweetie M. Byrum of Hawthorne died March 20 in Gainesville. She was 81.

Mrs. Byrum, a lifelong resident of Alachua County, was retired from the Otolaryngology Department at the University of Florida.

Mrs. Byrum was a Presbyterian.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin "Bud" Byrum.

Survivors include a grand- daughter.

Robert Miller Christy

Robert Miller Christy of Gainesville died Tuesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 84.

Mr. Christy retired as a supervisor from Penn Central Railroad.

Born in Gloversville, N.Y., he moved from Lady Lake to Gainesville 11 years ago.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Dunscomb Christy.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Christy of Lee Center, N.Y., Donald Christy of Torrance, Calif., and David Christy of Valparaiso, Ind.; a stepson, William Brumfield of Gainesville; a stepdaughter, Phyllis Brumfield of Gainesville; a sister, Winifred M. Bennett of Sebring; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Ella Mae Grant

Ella Mae Grant of Gainesville died unexpectedly Monday at Shands at AGH. She was 40.

Mrs. Grant was born in Palatka and moved from Palatka to Gainesville 31 years ago.

She was a member of the Holiness Faith.

Survivors include three sons, Norman Hayes, James T. Edwards and Michael Edwards, all of Gainesville; two daughters, Veronica Shontell Edwards and Phennie Lekia Edwards, both of Gainesville; her mother, Ruby Scott Russell of Gainesville; five sisters, Lasceny Young of Bluffton, S.C., Cassandra A. Walker of San Mateo, Louise D. Augustus of Micanopy, Cynthia G. Kelly of Gainesville and Gloria F. Grant of Alachua; three brothers, Freddie Grant, James Grant and Willie Grant, all of Gainesville; and two granddaughters.

William W. Holman

LAKE CITY - William W. Holman of Lake City died Tuesday at Shands at Lake Shore after a long illness. He was 76.

Mr. Holman was a civil engineer and a financial investor. He also served in the U.S. Naval Air Force during World War II.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he moved from Westerville, Ohio, to Lake City eight years ago. He graduated from Cornell University and Rutgers University.

Survivors include his wife, June Holman of Lake City; four daughters, Pamela Faith, Patricia Fern and Paula Moser, all of Lake City, and Peggy Holman of Gainesville; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Bessie M. Horne

ALACHUA - Bessie M. Horne of Alachua died Monday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville after a long illness. She was 71.

Mrs. Horne was a homemaker and a deaconess at Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church near Alachua.

Born in Quitman, Ga., she moved from Quitman to Alachua 52 years ago.

Survivors include two sons, Otis Norwood of Gainesville and Harry James Horne of Alachua; three daughters, Betty Jean Horne and Juanita Horne, both of Alachua, and Brenda Dell Burch of Tampa; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

E.J. Lord

TRENTON - E.J. Lord of Trenton died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. He was 81.

Mr. Lord was a retired inspector for the Florida Road Department. He also served in the Army Air Forces during World War II.

He was a lifelong resident of Trenton.

Mr. Lord was a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Trenton.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Lord of Trenton; a son, Jacky D. Lord or Perry, Ga.; his stepmother, Amma Lord of Tampa; two brothers, Randall Lord of Bell and Hilbert Lord of Trenton; and three grandchildren.

Karlos Dean Moss

STARKE - Karlos Dean Moss of Starke died Monday at his home after a long illness. He was 38.

Mr. Moss was a mechanic. He also served in the U.S. Navy.

Born in Limestone, Maine, he moved from Yreka, Calif., to Starke 17 years ago.

Mr. Moss was a Baptist.

Survivors include two sons, Justin Moss of Panama City and Christopher Moss of Lake Butler; his parents, James F. and Alice Moss Sr., of Yreka; a brother, Jimmy F. Moss Jr. of Starke; a sister, Lisa Atkinson of Redding, Calif.; his maternal grandmother, Alice Henshaw of Nottingham, England; and his paternal grandmother, Thelma Moss of Starke.
