Harold Jack Johnson

FANNING SPRINGS -- Harold Jack Johnson of Fanning Springs died Wednesday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lake City. He was 79.

Mr. Johnson was a retired site superintendent of development and construction in the Detroit area. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was born in Green Bay, Wis., and moved to Fanning Springs eight years ago.

Mr. Johnson was a commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Highland, Mich., and was a member of the American Legion and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jane Johnson; and a son, Harold Johnson Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Johnson of Fanning Springs; three sons, Roger "Rocky" Johnson of Bradenton, Joseph Johnson and Raymond Johnson, both of Milford, Mich.; a sister, Shirley Gruzwalski of Warren, Mich.; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Esther Thompson Stallings

DOWLING PARK -- Esther Thompson Stallings of Dowling Park died July 9 at Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park. She was 84.

Mrs. Stallings and her late husband, Tom C. Stallings, were the former owners of Stallings' Liquors in Waldo.

She was born in Cocoa and moved from Waldo to Dowling Park one year ago.

Mrs. Stallings served on the Altar Guild at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Starke.

Survivors include two daughters, Melissa S. Griggs of Tallahassee and Susan S. Sahler of Hickory, N.C.; two sons, Tom C. Stallings Jr. of Keystone Heights and Harry C. Stallings of Gainesville; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to St. Mark's Episcopal Church Altar Guild in Starke.

Anna Irene Florence

CHIEFLAND -- Anna Irene Florence of Chiefland died Thursday at Shands at AGH in Gainesville. She was 92.

Mrs. Florence was a homemaker.

She was born in Peabody, Mass., and moved to Chiefland five years ago.

Mrs. Florence was a Protestant.

Survivors include four daughters, Sally Banks of Seabrook, N.H., Nancy LaBounty of Aimsbury, Mass., Geraldine Schoch and Helen Galouchi, both of Lynn, Mass.; two sons, Herbert Newton of Chiefland and Richard Newton of Kensington, N.H.; and a brother, Bunky McGreger of Peabody, Mass.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Peace Cynthia Anita Thomas

Peace Cynthia Anita Thomas of Gainesville died Wednesday in Gainesville. She was one month old.

Peace was born in Gainesville.

Survivors include her parents, Willie and Lawanda Thomas of Gainesville; five brothers, Rondell Thomas, Willie Thomas, Antawayn Thomas, Todd Thomas and Romell Thomas, all of Gainesville; two sisters, Titannia Thomas and Shakeyla Thomas, both of Gainesville; maternal grandmother, Vernel Y. McCray of Gainesville; maternal grandfather, Steve James Gillis of Atlanta; paternal grandmother, Lottie Williams of Gainesville; and paternal grandfather, Charles Welcome of Starke.

Sallie M. Feagle

ARCHER - Sallie M. Feagle of Archer died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. She was 92.

Mrs. Feagle was a homemaker and a member of Hague Baptist Church.

She was a lifelong resident of Alachua County.

Mrs. Feagle enjoyed gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Mark Feagle.

Survivors include two daughters, Geraldine Edwards of Archer and Fay Rea Hall of Waldo; two sons, Albert Feagle and Larry Feagle, both of Archer; a brother, D.J. Stanley of Bell; four sisters, Bell Nail of High Springs, Julia Clark of Alachua, and Anna Nail and Jessie Thomas, both of Jacksonville; 26 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 13 great- great-grandchildren.

James Drayton Means

James Drayton Means of Micanopy died Saturday in Micanopy. He was 92.

Mr. Means was born in McIntosh and moved to Micanopy 54 years ago. He was a farmer and a Methodist.

Survivors include three caregivers, Debbie Noble and Leila Rodriguez, both of Micanopy, and Melanie Clifford of Gainesville.

Glendora E. Passman

Glendora E. Passman of High Springs died Saturday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville following a lengthy illness. She was 78.

Mrs. Passman was born in Van Buren, Ark., and moved to High Springs from Elm Grove, Wis., 17 years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of High Springs Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene J. Passman of High Springs; two sons, Denny Passman of Fort Pierce and Jerome Passman of San Diego; one daughter, Susan Landon-Kuhn of Briarcliff, N.Y.; one brother, Lafe Allen of Washington D.C.; and four grandchildren.

Elva Lillie Powell

Elva Lillie Powell of Vero Beach died Friday at Indian River Memorial Hospital in Vero Beach following an extended illness. She was 74.

Mrs. Powell was born in Gainesville and lived in Trenton and Macclenny before moving to Vero Beach five years ago. She was a state social worker for 42 years, including at the Northeast Florida State Hospital in Macclenny. She was a former member of First Baptist Church of Macclenny and Ryanwood Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church in Vero Beach. She is a graduate of the University of North Florida.

Survivors include three daughters, Hester Strickland Bloom of Sugarland, Texas, Allene Strickland Moorehead of Vero Beach and Sharon Strickland Underill of Melbourne; one sister, Ruby Lee Wilson of Trenton; one brother, Earl Gilbert Rodgers of Gainesville; and five grandchildren.

Luther Vincent Powell

Luther Vincent Powell of Gainesville died Thursday at his home. He was 86.

Mr. Powell was a fashion designer and a World War II veteran. He was born in Convoy, Ohio, and moved to Gainesville from North Miami Beach nine years ago. He graduated from Wittenburg University, where he belonged to the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.

Mr. Powell belonged to First Lutheran Church of Gainesville. He was a former member of Christ Lutheran Church of North Miami Beach.

Mr. Powell is preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Powell. Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Powell of Gainesville; two sons, Gregory Powell of Atlantic Beach and Lawrence Powell of Alexandria, Va.; three brothers, Richard W. Powell of Port Clinton, Ohio, Robert T. Powell of Lima, Ohio, and Warren Powell of Camden, Mich.; a sister, Louella Coffelt of Mansfield, Ohio; and two grandchildren.

Alena V. Burgess

ALACHUA -- Alena V. Burgess of Alachua died Friday in Pompano Beach after a short illness. She was 77.

Mrs. Burgess was a nurse's aide.

She was born in Newberry and was a lifelong resident of Alachua.

She graduated from Alachua County Training School.

Mrs. Burgess was a member of Crusaders For Christ, where she served on the Mother's Board.

Survivors include a daughter, Nadine Burgess of Pompano Beach; her mother, Maple Williams of Newberry; two sisters, Levonia King of Newberry and Susie Stover of Tampa; and a brother, Robert Williams of Gainesville.

Ricky Albert Ezzell

Ricky Albert Ezzell of Williston, who died Monday at his home, was a member of the Church of God in Williston.

Thelma O. Grimmage

Thelma O. Grimmage of Gainesville died Saturday at Shands at AGH following a lengthy illness. She was 79.

A native of Hamilton County, Mrs. Grimmage, a homemaker, lived nearly 30 years in Live Oak before moving to Arcadia. She has lived in Gainesville since 1971.

She attended schools in Jasper and Live Oak, and was of the Methodist faith.

Mrs. Grimmage was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Grimmage Sr., a son, Robert Grimmage Jr., and a daughter, JoAnn Grimmage.

Her survivors include three sons: Franklin Grimmage and Johnnie Grimmage, both of Gainesville, and Arthur J. Grimmage of San Angelo, Texas; five daughters: Ora L. DeBose of Gainesville, Dora M. Price of St. Petersburg, and Geneva Thomas, Doris Chandler and Doreatha Grimmage, all of Gainesville; a sister, Ethel A. Simmons of Jasper; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
