Thomas Eugene Clark

LAKE BUTLER - Thomas Eugene Clark of Lake Butler died Wednesday at his home. He was 50.

Mr. Clark was a retired construction drywall finisher. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He was born in Starke and moved from Alachua to Lake Butler 19 years ago.

Mr. Clark was a 1968 graduate of Santa Fe High School.

He was a Protestant.

Mr. Clark enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Dorotheacq "Dorie" McKinney Clark of Lake Butler; a son, Brian Eugene Rosecq of Lake Butler; his father, Jim Clark of Lake City; two brothers, Kenny Smith of Lake Butler and Edwin Smith of Lake City; two sisters, Gloria Parrish of Lake City and Melba Gordon of Alachua; and one grandson.

Barbara Betty Eargle

SALT SPRINGS - Barbara Betty Eargle of Salt Springs died Tuesday at Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala. She was 71.

Mrs. Eargle formerly managed Salt Springs Grocery.

She was born in West Germany, lived in Hawthorne for two years during the 1960s, and moved to Salt Springs about 35 years ago.

Mrs. Eargle was a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Eargle Jr.

Survivors include two daughters; three sons; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Ealise Grant Hawks

TAMPA - Ealise Grant "Taps" Hawks of Tampa died Sunday. She was 84.

Mrs. Hawks was a retired registered nurse for Veterans Affairs in Richmond, Va.

She was born in Conway, N.C., lived in Gainesville at a young age, and moved from Virginia to the Tampa area 36 years ago.

Survivors include a son; and a sister, Irma Broome of Gainesville.

Gertrude Britt Jackson

WILLISTON - Gertrude Brittcq Jackson of Williston died Wednesday at her home after a long illness. She was 90.

Mrs. Jackson was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Williston.

She was born in Atlanta and moved from Ocala to Williston 19 years ago.

Survivors include six daughters, Francescq Deese, cq Evelyn Nix and Flora Dean Gray, all of Ocala, Shirley Arnold of Anthony, Peggy J. Hartley of Williston and Louise Kelly of Sparr; 20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Adell Hollis James

Adell Hollis "Pop" James of Gainesville died Sunday after a brief illness. He was 59.

Mr. James was a wood hauler.

He was a lifelong resident of Gainesville.

Survivors include eight sisters, Lillie M. Johnson of Jonesville, Wallacecq E. McCray of Atlantic City, N.J., Esthercq M. Barker and Idella James, both of Indianapolis, Ind., and Helen J. Godbolt, Evelyn James, Willie Maecq Days and Jackie James, all of Gainesville; and a brother, Freddie James of Gainesville.

Rosemary Whitney Johnson

Rosemary Whitney Johnson of Gainesville died Tuesday at Hospice House in Gainesville. She was 81.

Mrs. Johnson was a genealogist. She was a founding member of Gainesville's William Mullins Chapter Descendants of the Mayflower and was a founder and past president of Abraham Venable I Chapter NSCDXVIIC.cq She held state offices for the Colonial Dames, the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company and the Dependents of Washington's Army at Valley Forge.

She was born in Jacksonville and moved to Gainesville 48 years ago.

Mrs. Johnson was an Episcopalian.

She was a founding member of Four Seasons Garden Club in Gainesville.

She also was an emeritus member of Florida Federation of Flower Show Judges.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Lee Johnson of Gainesville; two daughters, Regina Johnson Carroll and Rosemary Johnson Sherrard, cq both of Hot Springs, Ark.; a sister, Amy Whitney French of Cape Coral; and three grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Hospice of North Central Florida in Gainesville.

Willona Rodnell Scott

ARCHER - Willona Rodnell Scott of Archer died Sept. 1 in Archer due to injuries suffered in an auto accident. She was 18.

Miss Scott was formerly employed at Taco Bell on University Avenue in Gainesville.

She attended Newberry High School.

Miss Scott was born in Gainesville and was a lifelong resident of the area.

She attended New Life Church of God By Faith in Archer.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Idella and Willie Russell of Archer; her father and stepmother, Glenda Rodney Scott of Jonesville; two brothers, Leo Robinson and Larry Monroe, both of Archer; and her grandparents, Helen Scott of Newberry and Harvey McCloud of High Springs.

Maribell Brown Sturtevant

Maribell Brown Sturtevant of Brinson, Ga., died Tuesday at her home in Brinson. She was 80.

Mrs. Sturtevant was a homemaker.

She was born in Williamson, W.Va., and moved from Trenton to Brinson four months ago.

Survivors include her husband, Lester E. Sturtevant of Brinson; a daughter, Mary Norris of Brinson; a sister, Picky Winters of O'Fallon, Ill.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Wiregrass Hospice in Bainbridge, Ga.

Sammie Mae Wells

Sammie Mae Wells of Gainesville died Friday at Shands at the University of Florida after a long illness. She was 48.

Mrs. Wells was a homemaker.

She was born in Marshville, Ga., and moved to Gainesville 33 years ago.

Mrs. Wells was a 1968 graduate of Lincoln High School.

She was a member of Cohen's Temple First Born Church of the Living God, where she served as a deaconess and former Sunday school secretary and teacher, choir director and Usher Board president.

Mrs. Wells was preceded in death by a son, Dorsey Russell Wells.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence Wells of Gainesville; a daughter, Joyce C. Wells of Gainesville; a son, Alphonso Wells of Gainesville; three sisters, Eliza M. Rutledge and Georgie M. Bowens, both of Gainesville, and Ethel M. Hyler of Blackshear, Ga.; a brother, Charles James of Valdosta, Ga.; and six grandchildren.

Nathaniel Criswell

ST. PETERSBURG -- Nathaniel Criswell of St. Petersburg died Saturday in St. Petersburg.

He was 61.

Mr. Criswell was a city worker in Alachua.

He was born in Alachua and moved from Gainesville to St. Petersburg four years ago.

Mr. Criswell was a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church in Alachua.

Survivors include his wife, Elease Criswell of Alachua; five daughters, Barbara Criswell, Tangela Criswell and Michelle Criswell, all of Gainesville, and Brenda Criswell and Shannon Criswell, both of Alachua; a son, Raymond Criswell of Alachua; three brothers, the Rev. Gerard Criswell and Charles Washington, both of Alachua, and Joe Washington of High Springs; three sisters, Mary Criswell Ross of Lake City, Mary Rhodes of Alachua and Alma Howell of Jennings; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
