Emmett Maxie Norton Sr.
Emmett Maxie Norton Sr. of Kingsley Lake died Sunday at Shands at Starke after a long illness. He was 81.
Mr. Norton was born in Macclenny and moved from Lake Butler to Kingsley Lake 54 years ago.
Mr. Norton was a retired foreman with the Clay County Road and Bridge Department. He was a member of the American Legion Post 56 in Starke and a U.S. Army veteran.
Mr. Norton and his wife last week were awarded the Humanitarian of the Year award from the Bradford Chamber of Commerce for their work in Toys for Tykes.
Mr. Norton is survived by his wife, Edna Hodges Norton of Kingsley Lake; three daughters, Carolyn N. Johnson of Keystone Heights, Sylvia N. Macheda of Jacksonville and Sarah E. Norton of Kingsley Lake; a son, Emmett Maxie Norton Jr. of Kingsley Lake; five sisters, Geraldine Murray of Hickory, N.C., Virla Blankenship and Carlene Pride, both of Ocala, Lucille Hartley of Macclenny and Virginia Eddy of Keystone Heights; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Bobby Ray Tate
KEYSTONE HEIGHTS -- Bobby Ray Tate of Keystone Heights died Saturday night in Keystone Heights. He was 39.
Mr. Tate was a cable technician for Sun Belt Cable Co. He also worked 15 years for Pittsburgh Tank and Tower.
Born in Osceola, Ark., Mr. Tate moved four years ago from Brownsville, Ky., to Keystone Heights.
Survivors include two daughters, Tara Tate and Jenna Langtry, both of Keystone Heights; three sons, Allen Tate, Kyle Langtry and Dakota Tate, all of Keystone Heights; his companion and fiancee, Tammie Boyles Langtry of Keystone Heights; a brother, Phillip Wayne Tate of Decatur, Ala.; a sister, Victoria Mae Tate of Humboldt, Tenn.; and his mother, Margie S. Tate of Humboldt.
Marvin Koger
Dr. Marvin Koger of Gainesville died Monday at Shands at Starke. He was 84.
Dr. Koger was born in Colgate, Okla., and moved to Gainesville in 1951 from Las Cruces, N.M. He was a professor of animal genetics at the University of Florida, served on the President's Agricultural Advisory Committee, was a past president of the American Cattlemen's Association and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received an American Society of Animal Science Distinguished Scientist Award.
He attended Highlands Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Stewart Koger of Gainesville; three daughters, Marva Volk of Tulsa, Okla., and Libby Taft of Coconut Creek and Sharon Haughton of Gainesville; a son, David Koger of Brandon; two brothers, Charles Koger of Tulsa and Alfred Koger of Atlanta; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Orville R. Measel
OLD TOWN -- Orville R. Measel died Sunday at Shands at AGH after a heart attack. He was 71.
Mr. Measel was born in Sarasota and moved to Old Town 14 years ago.
Mr. Measel was a supervisor for the Sarasota County Road and Bridge Department.
He attended the Suwannee River Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Iris Measel of Old Town; two daughters, Terri Ferguson and Safari Fontaine both of Old Town; a son, Tony Measel of Old Town; a sister, Beatrice Dove of Sarasota; two brothers, Cecil Measel of North Port and Calvin Measel of Sarasota; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Bernice E. Paul
CHIEFLAND -- Bernice E. Paul of Chiefland died Sunday at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a short illness. She was 75.
Mrs. Paul was born in Greenville, Ind., and moved to Chiefland 15 years ago.
Mrs. Paul was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Rebel Post 5625 Ladies Auxiliary, Moose Lodge 325 of Fanning Springs, Fraternal Order of Eagles of Cedar Key and the American Legion Post 42 of Floyds Knobs, Ind. She also was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Chiefland.
Mrs. Paul is preceded in death by her husband, John F. Paul Jr.
Survivors include a daughter, Melissa K. Sutton of Hagerstown, Ind.; five sons, Stephen E. Paul of Floyds Knobs, Ind., Dennis J. Paul of Tallahassee, John Eric Paul of Greenville, Ind., Christopher L. Paul of Georgetown, Ind., and Nicholas D. Paul of Chiefland; a sister, Phyliss Huber of Jeffersonville, Ind.; three brothers, Carl Kiesler of Bradenton, Melvin Kiesler of Ormond Beach and Vernon Kiesler of Inverness; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

John Eugene Polley Sr.
HAMPTON -- John Eugene Polley Sr. of Hampton died Sunday at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a long illness. He was 71.
Mr. Polley was the chief supervisor of traction power for Miami-Dade Transit. He also served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, helping pioneer the development of radar.
Mr. Polley was born in Baltimore and moved seven years ago from Miami to Bradford County.
Mr. Polley was preceded in death by his daughter, Shirley Louise Polley.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandra J. Gonzalez of Miami, Susan G. Polley of North Miami and Sharon D. Llumbet of Miami; a son, John Polley Jr. of Plantation; a sister, Mary Lou Evans of Lewes, Del.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Robert Lee Cardinal Jr.
FORT WHITE -- Robert Lee Cardinal Jr. of Fort White died unexpectedly Saturday at Lake City Medical Center. He was 44.
Mr. Cardinal was a shop foreman at Ring Power of Ocala.
Born in Vincennes, Ind., he moved from Miami to the Fort White area 18 years ago.
He was a Catholic.
Survivors include his wife, Edie Cardinal of Fort White; two sons, William Cardinal of Fort White and James Cardinal of Lake City; a daughter, Elizabeth Cardinal of Fort White; his parents, Robert L. and Patricia Cardinal of Lake City; and his maternal grandmother, Lucille Wydra of Naples.
Emanuel E. Gunter
Emanuel E. "Elzie" Gunter of Gainesville died Saturday at Shands at AGH. He was 81.
Mr. Gunter was a grounds supervisor at the University of Florida. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Born in Waldo, he moved from Jacksonville to Gainesville 47 years ago.
He was a member of Carol Estates Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn S. Gunter of Gainesville; two daughters, Elizabeth Wilkerson of Chiefland and Elaine Francke of Stuart; three sisters, Lelia Durham of Jacksonville, Marion DeVane of Plant City and Nancy Hogue of Fairview, Tenn.; and two grandsons.
Celestine Franzoi Mancuso
Celestine Franzoi Mancuso of Gainesville died Friday in Gainesville. She was 76.
Mrs. Mancuso was a homemaker and a Catholic.
Born in Sporminore, Italy, she moved from Miami to Gainesville four years ago.
Survivors include her husband, Carmen A. Mancuso of Gainesville; a daughter, Carol Dougherty of Bradenton; two sons, Anthony Mancuso of Gainesville and Raymond Mancuso of Jacksonville Beach; two sisters, Inez Lamprinakos of Gainesville and Erina Buzetta of Connecticut; and five grandchildren.

Louis Albert Maresca
Louis Albert Maresca of Gainesville died Friday in Gainesville. He was 76.
Mr. Maresca was a retired postal clerk. He also was a petty officer 3C in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Born in West Hoboken, N.J., he moved from New Jersey to Gainesville 30 years ago.
He was a Protestant.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Maresca of Gainesville; a son, Michael Maresca of Gainesville; a brother, Harold Maresca of Pensacola; and two grandchildren.
Thelma McCoy Scohier
Thelma McCoy Scohier of Gainesville died Saturday at Shands at AGH after a brief illness. She was 81.
Mrs. Scohier was a retired secretary at Gainesville High School.
Born in Evans City, Pa., she moved from Indianapolis, Ind., to Gainesville 32 years ago.
She was a Catholic.
Survivors include three daughters, Diane Ortiz of Ellizay, Ga., Barbara Martin of Savannah, Ga., and Marcy Yozgacqt of Gainesville; six sons, Jerry Scohier and Conrad Scohier, both of Dawsonville, Ga., Gregory Scohier and John Scohier, both of Cummings, Ga., Patrick Scohier of Micanopy and Chris Scohier of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a sister, Elizabeth Fisher of Butler, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
