Beatrice Fisher

Beatrice Fisher of Lake Worth died Friday at JFK Medical Center in Atlantis. She was 80.

A native of New York City, Mrs. Fisher was a member of the Sisterhood of Temple Beth Tikvah.

Local survivors include a daughter, Dr. Janet Silverstein of Gainesville.

I.J. Morris Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Calvin Brinkley Hayes Jr.

LAKE BUTLER - Calvin Brinkley "C.B." Hayes Jr. died Wednesday at his residence following an extended illness. He was 75.

Mr. Hayes was born in Alachua County and lived in Lake Butler most of his life.

He was a manager at Hillandale Farms of Lake Butler and a pulp wood contractor.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake Butler.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 50 years, Dorothy Judd Hayes of Lake Butler; a daughter, Darlene Hayes Browning of Athens, Ga.; a brother, George Hayes of Gainesville; sisters, Joyce Ward and Allegra Saunders, both of Lake Butler; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Archer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lola L. Lee

ALACHUA - Lola L. Lee, a lifelong resident of Alachua, died Friday at Shands at AGH following a brief illness.

She was 84.

Mrs. Lee was a dietary technician and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Female Protective Grand Lodge No. 10.

Survivors include sons, Willie James Lee of Indian Harbor, Jessie H. Lee and Dwayne D. Lee, both of Alachua, Robert M. Lee of Los Angeles and Luther D. Lee of LaCrosse; a daughter, Evelyn Mitchell of Carson City, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Mae Spaulding of Alachua; a sister, Linnie Williams of Gainesville; 27 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Chestnut Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edward William McVay

Edward William McVay of Gainesville died Wednesday in Melrose. He was 88.

Mr. McVay was born in Decatur, Mich., and moved to Gainesville from Watervliet, Mich., in 1994. He was a security guard and a Catholic.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include a daughter, Catherine Hughes of Columbus, Ind.; sons, James H. McVay of Fontana, Calif., Michael P. McVay of Charlotte, N.C., and Robert D. McVay of Gainesville; and nine grandchildren.

Williams-Thomas Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Melvin Meeks

Melvin "Hawkeye" Meeks of Paisley died at his residence Saturday following an extended illness. He was 51.

The Dixie County native moved to Paisley from Cross City five years ago.

He was a member of Harvest Church of God in Ocoee, the Central Florida Dog Hunters Association and the Central Florida Fox Hunters Association.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Ladrone Meeks.

He is survived by his wife, Evon Meeks of Paisley; a daughter, Kimberley Saines of Paisley; brothers, W.R. Meeks Jr. of Ocoee, W.G. Cannon of Old Town, Claude Meeks of Winter Garden, Cazzie Meeks of Orlando, Noey Meeks of Winter Garden and Ricky Meeks of Orlando; sisters, Lucille Smith and Louise Mason of Cross City, Virginia Cope of Mills River, N.C., Selma Traywick of Prattville, Ala., Melvie Tare of Youngstown, Ohio, and Betty Sue Meodoe of Lucedale, Miss.

Rick Gooding Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dolly Milkowski

STARKE - Dolly Milkowski of Starke died Tuesday at Shands at AGH. She was 69.

A native of New Cumberland, W.Va., she moved to Starke many years ago.

She was a Protestant and a PX manager at Camp Blanding.

Survivors include sons, Michael Milkowski of Yorktown, Va., David Milkowski and Mark Milkowski, both of Satellite Beach; and a grandson, Joshua Milkowski.

Key Miller Sargent Jr.

OCALA - Key Miller Sargent Jr. died Monday at his Ocala residence. He was 44.

The Keystone Heights native and former Winter Haven resident was an Episcopalian.

He has no local survivors.

Cindy Sims

HIGH SPRINGS - Cindy Sims of High Springs died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. She was 46.

Mrs. Sims was born in Petersburg, Va., and moved to High Springs from Matoaca, Va., 15 years ago. She was a hairstylist and a member of First Baptist Church of High Springs.

Survivors include her husband, Edward Sims of High Springs; her stepfather, Brady Tackett of Prestonburg, Ky.; a son, Scott Sims of Gainesville; a daughter, Michelle Sims of High Springs; a brother, Stan Tackett of Kansas City; and a sister, Jeannette Fuller of Hopewell, Va.

Evans-Carter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Juanita Joye Smith

CROSS CITY - Juanita Joye Smith, a lifelong resident of Chiefland, died unexpectedly Saturday in Levy County. She was 38.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Jessie Smith of Cross City; her mother, Hattie Sheffield of Chiefland; daughters, Leola Smith and Mae Frances Smith, both of Chiefland; a sister, Barbara Smith of Chiefland; a brother, Andrew David Sheffield of Chiefland; and her stepmother, Essie Mae Sheffield of Chiefland.

Carnegie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Angelena J. Tolbert

Angelena J. Tolbert of Gainesville died June 7 at Shands at the University of Florida following a brief illness. She was 39.

Mrs. Tolbert was born in Lake Butler and moved to Gainesville from Madison 21 years ago.

She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

She graduated from Madison County High School, and she attended North Florida Junior College.

Survivors include her husband, Richard L. Tolbert of Gainesville; daughters, Brittany Tolbert and Kenya Tolbert, both of Gainesville; a son, Kenan Tolbert of Gainesville; her father and stepmother, Rommie and Essie Mae Jonas of Madison; a brother, Rommie Jonas Jr. of Gainesville; two stepbrothers, Van Johnson and Daryl Johnson, both of Orlando; sisters, Linda Alexander of Melrose, Drucilla Hale of Gainesville and Diane Cherry, Shirley Mattair, Carolyn Johnson and Sabrina Henderson, all of Madison; and a stepsister, Sonica Mitchell of Madison.

James Wallace

WILLISTON - James "J-1" Wallace, a longtime resident of Williston, died June 7 in an automobile accident in Marion County. He was 48.

Mr. Wallace was a laborer and a member of Rockhill Baptist Church of Williston.

He graduated from Williston High School in 1970 and served in the U.S. Army in 1973-1974.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Johnnie and Joan Wallace Wallace of Williston; daughters, Latrina Wallace of Gainesville and Shelby Pitts of Trenton; sisters, Norma Scott, Inez Wallace, Linda Wallace, Sandra Wallace, Telesa Wallace and Zipora Smother, all of Williston, and Melanie McConico of Gainesville; two stepsisters, Viola Sneed of Gainesville and Delia Alexander of Williston; and a stepbrother, Thaddus Alexander of Williston.
