Pauline Ricketts

OLD TOWN -- Pauline Ricketts of Old Town died Friday at her home. She was 76.

Mrs. Ricketts was a beautician and a member of Old Town Methodist Church.

Born in Lancaster, Ohio, she moved from Lancaster to Old Town 20 years ago.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Claude Ricketts of Old Town; a daughter, Beverly Storts of Pickerington, Ohio; a brother, Lloyd Widener of Lancaster; two sisters, June Wright of Pleasantville, Ohio, and Mary Engle of Lancaster; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Vance E. Sewell

NEWBERRY -- Vance E. Sewell of Newberry died Friday in Quincy. He was 83.

Mr. Sewell was a retired supervisor for the city of Fort Lauderdale. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was born in Broward County.

Mr. Sewell was a member of Davie United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Bonnie F. Sewell of Newberry; two sons, Curtis Sewell of Chattahoochee and James Sewell of Newberry; a brother, Edgar Sowell, different name of Ocala; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Doris Parker Skinner

ARCHER -- Doris Parker Skinner of Archer died Saturday at her home. She was 90.

Mrs. Skinner was a retired teacher and owner of the former Dixie Cafe in Archer.

Born in LaCrosse, she moved from LaCrosse to Archer 75 years ago.

She was a member of Archer First United Methodist Church and of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 138 in Archer.

Mrs. Skinner was preceded in death by her husband, Howard B. Skinner; and a son, Icy Walter Skinner.

Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn S. Silcox of Panama City; a son, Howard Odell Skinner of Archer; a sister, Dorothy Allstock of Archer; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Jordan Daniel Bullington

HIGH SPRINGS -- Jordan Daniel Bullington died Wednesday at his residence in High Springs. He was 57.

Mr. Bullington was born in Ashburn, Ga., and moved to High Springs from Thomasville, Ga., 11 years ago.

He was a trucking supervisor at Sunnyland Packing Co.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Bullington was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Martha Keebler and Margaret O'Steen Frishkorn, both of High Springs, and Betty Farmer of New Port Richey; and three brothers, Sammy Bullington and Kim O'Steen, both of High Springs and Olton Keebler of Holder.

John P. Hileman Jr.

MELROSE -- John P. Hileman Jr. of Melrose died Wednesday at Windsor Manor in Starke following a brief illness. He was 84.

Mr. Hileman was born in Lexington, Va., and moved to Melrose from Jacksonville in 1977.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a military aircraft mechanic and estimator from 1934 to 1954. He was a retired service manager for Key Buick in Jacksonville.

Survivors include his wife, Artice Evelyn Hileman of Melrose; two sons, Harry L. Hileman of Melrose and John P. Hileman III of Gainesville; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the Faith Presbyterian Church Building Fund.

Mary Geneva Beckham

Mary Geneva Beckham of Gainesville died at Shands at AGH Monday after a brief illness. She was 47.

Born in Williston, Miss Beckham lived in Levy County briefly as a child. She lived most of her life in the Gainesville area. She worked at Terwilliger Elementary School as a database manager for 19 years and had recently worked for S&S; Cleaners. She was Baptist.

Survivors include her two sons, Drew Beckham of Gainesville and Josh Beckham of Hawthorne; her mother, Pollie Morgan of Gainesville; and two sisters, Candy Sanchez and Darlene Hinson, both of Gainesville.

Frances J. Crockett

HAWTHORNE -- Frances J. Crockett of Hawthorne died at her home Sunday after a long illness. She was 87.

Mrs. Crockett, who was born in Taylor County, Ga., moved to Hawthorne from Silver Spring, Md., in 1970. She was a retired unit control manager for Sears, Roebuck and Co. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Gainesville, and was a past treasurer of the church and the Community Service Project.

Mrs. Crockett was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Frank Crockett.

Survivors include five daughters, Mary Nichols of Gainesville, Ga., Betty Baker of Hawthorne, Nira Mitchell of Orlando, Sarah Hughes of Little Rock, Ark., and Brenda Gay of Hagerstown, Md.; a son, Bill Crockett of Hawthorne; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great- grandchildren.

Kathryn Humphrey Guthrie

TALLAHASSEE -- Kathryn Humphrey Guthrie of Tallahassee died Friday in Tallahassee. She was 90.

Mrs. Guthrie worked in a bank in Alachua and at the University of Florida. Born in Gretna, Mrs. Guthrie moved from Alachua to Tallahassee 17 years ago. She was an active member at the First Presbyterian Church in Alachua.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of donations to Fellowship Presbyterian Church, 3158 S. Shamrock, Tallahassee 32308.

Elizabeth Anne "Liz" Hughey

Elizabeth Anne "Liz" Hughey of Gainesville died Sunday in Baker County in a traffic accident. She was 26.

Ms. Hughey was born in Gainesville and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Gainesville High School and attended Santa Fe Community College, Florida State University and the University of South Florida. She was a customer service supervisor for AvMed Health Plan and a member of United Church of Gainesville.

She was a talented artist and singer.

Survivors include her son, Travlin Hughey-Crain of Gainesville; her father, Philip Jan Hughey of Miami; her mother, Bobbe Needham of Gainesville and Ashville, N.C.; a sister, Stephanie Akers of Gainesville; a brother, Patrick Hughey of Alachua; and her grandmother, Mildred Hughey of Kilgore, Texas.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the St. Francis House or a trust fund for Travlin Hughey-Crain in care of United Church of Gainesville, 1624 NW 5th Ave., Gainesville 32603.

Cung Chan Ly

Dr. Cung Chan Ly of Gainesville died Sunday in Green Cove Springs after a long illness. He was 86.

Dr. Ly was an oriental medicine physician. He was born in China and moved from Hong Kong to Gainesville 18 years ago.

Survivors include his son, Thong Thoai Ly of Gainesville; and five grandchildren.

Elma Jewell Stanley

HAWTHORNE -- Elma Jewell Stanley of Hawthorne died Sunday in Gainesville. She was 83.

Mrs. Stanley was a homemaker.

Born in Hazelhurst, Miss., she moved from Bradenton to Gainesville 52 years ago.

Mrs. Stanley was a member of Island Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, James Floyd Stanley Sr. of Hawthorne; her sister, Margart Rath of Bradenton; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Leo Julian Thomas Jr.

Leo Julian "Buddy" Thomas Jr. of Gainesville died Tuesday in Yulara, in northern Australia, while on vacation. He was 69.

Mr. Thomas was past president and CEO of Thomas Oil Co. in Gainesville.

He also served in the U.S. Navy and was a lieutenant in the Naval Reserve.

He was born in Lake City and moved from Jacksonville to Gainesville 55 years ago. He graduated from the University of Florida. Mr. Thomas was a past president of Florida Petroleum Marketers Association, past director of the National Oil Jobbers Council and a past captain of the Gainesville Quarterback Club.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Gator Boosters, Gator Hunt Club, Eastside Garden Club, Friends of Jazz, North Florida Fly Fishers, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and the council of the U.S. Branch of Clan MacThomas Society of Scotland.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy C. "Dorie" Thomas of Gainesville; two daughters, Kimberly Ann Tutan of Savannah, Ga., and Catherine Thomas Bagley of Wilmington, N.C.; a son, Leo David Thomas of Gainesville; and four grandsons.
