Augustus D. Goodman
CHIEFLAND -- Augustus D. Goodman of Chiefland died Thursday at North Florida Rehabilitation Center. He was 68.
Mr. Goodman was born in Chester, Ga., and moved to Chiefland 28 years ago.
He served in the Georgia National Guard.
He was a sales clerk for Hudson Food Stores for 28 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Akin of Jonesboro, Ga.; two sons, Alton D. Goodman of Chiefland and Sam Goodman of Jonesboro; a stepson, Allen Nelson of Chiefland; eight grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.
Roger Kim Herring
MELROSE -- Roger Kim Herring of Melrose died Friday in Melrose. He was 47.
Mr. Herring was born in Plant City and moved to Melrose from Hawthorne three years ago.
He was a computer systems analyst with ABC Research-Food Science Testing Co.
He enjoyed diving. He was a jazz pianist.
Survivors include a son, Lance Herring of Ocala; his mother, Elizabeth Price of Lake Panasofkee; his father, Henry Herring of Gainesville; a sister, Lee Herring of Gainesville; and a brother, Ned Herring of Lake Panasofkee.
Betty C. Honaker Long
OCALA -- Betty C. Honaker Long of Ocala died Sunday. She was 71.
She was born in Ronceverte, W. Va., and moved to Ocala in 1959. She was a charter member of the Agape Baptist Church and also attended Kendrick Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleo Denver Long, and a son, Michael David Long.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Long of Ocala and Robert D. Long of Marietta, Ga.; two daughters, Karen Mills-Oglesby of Ocala and Ann Vanderbeek of Middleburg; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Dr. John Franklin Nelson
Dr. John Franklin Nelson of Gainesville died Sunday in Gainesville. He was 67.
Dr. Nelson was born in Shipshewana, Ind., and moved to Gainesville 43 years ago.
He was a physician and a Methodist.
Survivors include his wife, Lauretta Nelson of Gainesville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn Nelson and Earl Ritzline of Port St. Lucie, and Laura Jean Nelson and Dennis Saver of Vero Beach; and three grandchildren, Matthew Saver, Daniel Saver and Benjamin Saver.
Clara Eugenia Tyson
BELL -- Clara Eugenia Tyson, a longtime resident of Bell, died Sunday in Lakeland. She was 89.
Mrs. Tyson was a retired baker and member of Mount Nebo Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Floyed Tyson; and a daughter, Lucille Clara Tyson.
Survivors include three sons, Raymond Floyed Tyson of Plant City, Charles Thomas Tyson Sr. of Lakeland and Arthur Clayton Tyson of Auburndale; a sister, Eulice Romelda Rosier of Tampa; a brother, A.C. Townsend of Wesley Chapel; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Clara Oakley Townsend
HIGH SPRINGS -- Clara Oakley Townsend of High Springs died Sunday. She was 78.
She was born in Lavonia, Ga., and moved to High Springs in 1940 from Dade City. He was a retired owner of Teddy Bear Nursery.
She was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Faye Townsend of High Springs; three sons, Wade Townsend Jr. and Bill Townsend Sr., both of Gainesville, and Christopher Townsend of Citrus Springs; two brothers, Tom Oakley of Lake Wales and Julien Oakley of Trenton; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Kenneth Austin Boals Jr.
Kenneth Austin Boals Jr., a lifelong resident of Gainesville, died Tuesday in Gainesville. He was 42.
Mr. Boals was a funeral attendant for Milam Funeral Home. He was employed by Johnson-Hayes Funeral Home and Milam Funeral Home for 26 years.
He was a member of First Advent Christian Church, a charter member of the Breakfast Civitan Club, and the secretary and treasurer of Evergreen cemetery Association of Gainesville.
He graduated from Gainesville High School, where he was manager of the yearbook.
Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Kathryn Renee Boals Dees and Leonard C. "Butch" Dees Jr. of Gainesville; a niece, Lisa Renee Dees of Gainesville; two cousins; and caretakers, Kathy Shehee and Betty Jean Wood, both of Gainesville; and numerous other cousins.
Marian Dell Cook
Marian Dell Cook of Gainesville died Tuesday. She was 74.
Mrs. Cook was born in Ontario and moved to Gainesville in 1957.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Stanley D. Cook.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Zarhley of Melbourne and Patricia Morley of Bonn, Germany; two sons, David Cook of Gainesville and Donald Cook of Jacksonville; her mother, Emma Gebhardt of Beaverton, Ore.; three sisters; a brother; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Keith Merwin Deal
STARKE -- Keith Merwin Deal, a longtime resident of Starke, died Wednesday at his residence in Starke. He was 75.
A retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel, he served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a Christian.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Deal of Starke; five daughters, Janet Birch, Karen McClintock and Kimberly Deal, all of Jacksonville, Susan Gentry of Gainesville and Lucinda Ragan of Brookfield, Conn.; four stepdaughters, Terrie Andersen of New Hampshire, Shelly Nejames of Millbrook, N.Y., Patricia Hankamp of Gainesville and Arlene Jyawook of Ann Arbor, Mich.; two stepsons, Robbie Fitzmorris and James C. Anderson, both of Pine Plains, N.Y.; a sister, Dorothy Hicks of Cocoa; two brothers, Donald Deal of Flagler Beach and Troy M. Deal II of Winter Park; 33 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Donald William Frick
Donald William Frick of Gainesville died Thursday at Hospice of North Central Florida. He was 61.
The New Jersey native worked at the Florida Center for Library Automation. He served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Micanopy Episcopal Church of the Mediator.
Mr. Frick was a windsurfer and a sailor.
Survivors include his wife, Ivi Frick of Gainesville; a daughter, Kristi Paolino of Denver; a son, Dr. Gary Frick of Gainesville; a sister, Elaine Palma of New Foundland, N.J.; a niece, Laurie Palma; a nephew, Bryan Palma; and a granddaughter, Rebekah Paolino.
Helen Marie Hoffmann
LAKE CITY -- Helen Marie Hoffmann of Lake City died Wednesday at the Hospice House of Gainesville. She was 89.
Mrs. Hoffmann was born in St. Louis and moved to Lake City in 1972.
She was a homemaker and a Presbyterian.
She enjoyed reading, music and crafts.
Mrs. Hoffmann was preceded in death by her husband, Frank A. Hoffmann; and a son, Herbert W. Hoffmann.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Hoffmann-Woods of Lake City; a son, Frank H. Hoffmann of Anchorage, Alaska; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Russell Sumner Prescott
LAWTEY -- Russell Sumner Prescott, a lifelong resident of Lawtey, died Wednesday at St. Vincent's Medical Center. He was 73.
Mr. Prescott was retired from the Bureau of Federal Property Assistance. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He attended the schools in Bradford County.
Mr. Prescott was a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church, the Lawtey Lodge No. 189 F & AM, and the York Rite of Freemasonry.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Cornelius N. Rain
Cornelius N. Rain of Tampa died Wednesday. He was 54.
The former Gainesville resident was an electronics technician. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and Air Force.
He has no local survivors.
