Leon Evans White

INTERLACHEN - Leon Evans White died Thursday at Shands at the University of Florida. He was 20.

He was born in Miami Beach and moved to Interlachen in 1996.

He graduated from Interlachen High School, played in a band and was a singer and a songwriter.

Survivors include his mother, Candy Lovett of Interlachen; his father, Vern White of Woodbury, Ga.; his grandfather, Marvin Sweet of Brooksville; his grandparents Verlyn and Mary Bell Hollingsworth of Woodbury; and his great-grandmother, Kathleey Hogg of Miami.

Louie Daniel Wilson

Louie Daniel Wilson of Gainesville died Friday at the Hospice House of Gainesville. He was 77.

Mr. Wilson was born in Delhi, La., and moved to Gainesville from Newport, R.I., in 1961.

He retired from the Planning and Zoning Department of the city of Gainesville. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes Wilson, of Gainesville; a daughter, Rita Wilson Chamblee of Newberry; sons Daniel and John Wilson, both of Gainesville; a sister, Zoie MacKnight of Chicago; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Helen Folsom Cowart

Helen Folsom Cowart died Saturday at Shands at AGH following a lengthy illness. She was 80.

She was born in Adel, Ga., and moved to Gainesville 60 years ago. She was a retired underwriter with Independent Life and Accident Insurance Co.

She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Rose Fulcher; a son, Donald W. Cowart of Tampa; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Jane P. Beyers

Jane P. Beyers of Gainesville died Thursday in Gainesville. She was 79.

Mrs. Byers was born in White Plains, N.Y., and moved to Gainesville from Chicago 14 years ago.

She was a homemaker and a Methodist.

Survivors include her husband, Bryant W. Beyers of Gainesville; a daughter, Susan Brignac of New Orleans; a son, Richard A. Beyers of Mount Prospect, Ill.; and six grandchildren.

James Edwin Deming

James Edwin Deming of Titusville died Saturday. He was 65.

Mr. Deming was a member of First Christian Church of Titusville.

Local survivors include a daughter, Joan Davis of Live Oak.

Dallas Hamm Glenn

Dallas Hamm Glenn of Gainesville died Feb. 5 in Gainesville. She was 85.

Mrs. Glenn was born in Elberton, Ga., and moved to Gainesville from Atlanta in 1991.

She was a retired nurse with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Atlanta and served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include a sister, Betsy Glenn Yarlett of Gainesville.

Betty Horne

Betty Horne of Fort Wayne, Ind., died Saturday in Indiana. She was 88.

Mrs. Horne was born in Boulder, Colo., and lived in Gainesville for 45 years before moving to Indiana seven years ago.

She earned a doctorate in psychology from the University of Iowa and held several positions at the Sunland Training Center, including head of the psychology department and director of programs and services. She continued part time with the state Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services until age 81.

She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. She also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and the Red Cross.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Porter Horne.

Survivors include a daughter, Mabel Lou Linder of Fort Wayne; sons Harry Horne of Guatemala, Porter Horne of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Carl Horne of Bloomington, Ind.; brothers Glenn Martinson of San Jose, Calif., Don Martinson of Wichita, Kan., and Paul Martinson of Edinboro, Pa.; and 11 grandchildren.

Donna L. Jenkins

MICANOPY - Donna L. Jenkins died Saturday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 70.

Mrs. Jenkins was born in Great Falls, Mont., and moved to Micanopy from Titusville in 1991.

She was a newspaper reporter and editor.

She enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include her husband, Cecil G. Jenkins Sr. of Micanopy; a daughter, Terry Weaver of Missoula, Mont.; sons Cecil G. Jenkins Jr. of Titusville and Dwight Thomas Jenkins of St. Augustine; a brother, Robert C. Peterson of Palo Alto, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Catherine A. Lee

Catherine A. Lee of Gainesville died Saturday at her residence. She was 74.

Mrs. Lee was born in Somerville, N.J., and moved to Gainesville from San Antonio, Texas, in 1966.

She was an outpatient coordinator for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She was a graduate of the University of Florida, where she was a longtime volunteer with the Lakewatch Program. She also volunteered with Head Start, Adult Literacy and Hospice.

She enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include her husband, Felix L. Lee of Gainesville; daughters Bonita Lee of Hamilton, Mass., Felicia Andrew of San Diego and Terrie Lee of Tampa; a son, William Lee of Gainesville; and seven grandchildren.

Nancy Lyons

MAYO - Nancy Lyons died Sunday at her residence following an extended illness. She was 67.

Mrs. Lyons was born in Windthorst, Texas, and moved to Mayo from Albuquerque, N.M., in 1952.

She was a retired secretary with the Mayo Health Department and a member of Athena Baptist Church in Perry.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Charles Lyons of Mayo; a daughter, Tamyra Knight of Mayo; a son, William Dean Lyons of Mayo; sisters Edna Washington of Auburn, Ala., and Ann Mahn of Mica, Wash.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Alma Bass

LIVE OAK - Alma Evangeline Mathews Bass died Saturday at Shands at Live Oak following an extended illness. She was 93.

Mrs. Bass was born in Fairfield and moved to Live Oak in 1931.

She taught high school English, French and Latin in Wellborn and grade school in Live Oak. She retired in 1992 at the age of 83. She was twice honored as the Suwannee County Teacher of the Year.

She wrote weekly columns for The Suwannee Democrat and The Suwannee Echo.

She graduated from Florida State College for Women.

Mrs. Bass was a member of First Baptist Church of Live Oak, where she taught Sunday school.

Survivors include daughters Peggy Bass Musgrove and Rose Bass, both of Live Oak; six grandchildren and six great-grand-children.
